Needs to have a longer cable..
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, using this USB4 docking station was a first for me. Plus, it was on clearance thus the purchase. I wanted a solution for a “downside laptop oriented desk workspace”, using my ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 notebook. Overall, the docking station works extremely well, with implementation of a few components. As with many solutions there are a few shortcomings. Chiefly, the usb cord from the docking station is way too short. The goal was to mount the docking station to the rear of my laptop stand from Rain Designs, via a 3M strip mounting in the back of the stand. Due to the shortness of the attaching cable to closest Thunderbolt port, I ended up scraping using the stand for the laptop to laying it on the desk. Otherwise, the docking station fulfills the mission of the accessory, as I needed the Ethernet port and the two USB-C and the two USB 3 ports as well, until I get around to ordering a CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 docking station. Hopefully J5 Create will lengthen the cable in future product releases.

Must have accessory for gaming laptops
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wired Ethernet is so much better for gaming than WiFi, so this accessory makes a lot of sense. It’s 2.5Gb capability matches perfectly with AT&T Fiber Internet, and their router has a port that supports this speed. The extra USB ports in the hub are a nice bonus.

Very good macbook pro hub
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good hub. I have used a few aftermarket hubs that have been subpar and this one is the best by far. Good power and plenty of additional ports.

works to output 8K
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used it to connect several different laptop Thunderbolt 4 to an 8K TV. This thing worked where other cables failed. It isn't easy to make 8K output work from a laptop. But, of all the options we tried, this was the best.

Charging Issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything worked except the charging. It would show up on my S9 Tablet that it was charging BUT the percentage was decreasing. I did read on Reddit that some hubs that are 100W-PD need a 100W brick to function properly so it might have been an issue with this one. I tried others and they worked with the 45W brick I have. Other than that. Everything else was ok.

Posted .Some USB hubs, especially those with high power delivery capabilities, may require a power supply (brick) that matches or exceeds their power requirements to function correctly. In your case, it's possible that the 45W brick wasn't providing enough power to both charge your tablet and operate the hub simultaneously. To ensure proper charging and hub functionality, it's a good practice to use a power supply that matches or exceeds the hub's wattage rating. In your case, a 100W power supply is recommended for a hub that supports 100W Power Delivery.

meets all the needs
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to upgrade to a newer (used) Macbook Pro, which has no USB-A socket, and I needed a new hub to accomodate an HDMI monitor cable and other accessory wiring. Out of several options at Best Buy, this met all my cable needs, has a high customer rating, and was on sale. The best compliment I can give is... I never have to think about it!

Promising Hub, But It Just Didn't Work For Me
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use a MacBook 2020 every day at work and thought this j5create USB4 Dual 8K Hub would be a great upgrade to the current HDMI/USB hub I own, but I had several issues with it, and because I was using a single monitor, j5create was nice enough to send me their USB4 8K Multi-Port Hub. The difference is that this one only had support for one monitor at 8K and an ethernet port as well. This review will be for the USB4 8K version of this hub, which is pretty much identical except for the lack of multi-monitor support. Overall Impressions: I really like the build quality of the j5create hubs. They feel solid and are built out of aluminum, so they’re also not very heavy. The ports seem secure and tight, with no wiggling or looseness. Even after a lot of troubleshooting and being sent a replacement device, I’m still having some issues with the initial connectivity of my 32-inch 4k/60hz Samsung monitor and that is going to affect my rating of this product. While the product does work for me, I have to first adjust my 2020 MacBook Pro running the latest version of macOS Ventura to 4k/30hz and then select 4k/60hz to get this product to function reliably. These issues could very well be the fact that Ventura is fairly new and so is the USB4 chipset used by this hub or it could also be just my MacBook that’s having the issue. Without having another MacBook to test it on, I can only use my experience to judge this product. I have no issues using a direct DisplayPort to USB-C cable to the monitor, but whenever I put the hub into use I have weird issues with being able to get full 4k/60hz support. Also, it seems that when using the hub, the visual quality is slightly degraded, almost as if some of the pixels don’t accurately produce the colors expected. It’s not noticeable in everything, but certain aspects of MacOS, like the close and minimize buttons. Mind you, I think this situation may just be isolated to Venture on my specific MacBook, but I want to be transparent about what I experienced. This hub may work great for certain MacBooks and monitor combinations, but I can't recommend it as it fell short of my expectations.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gets very warm but the real problem I have is that the USB - C out doesn't support video. The only way to use a separate screen with this thing in between your device and the other screen is with the HDMI port. Kind of low end for something boasting USB4 /8k. My purpose was to have a travel friendly hub for the two portable 2k/120hz in the go bag. Nope. Had to find the HDMI miniHDMI cable, and we all know that port on portable monitors has a half life of 3 weeks. Not to mention just more cables required as the portable monitors need separate power with the miniHDMI connection.

Posted .The JCD403 USB4 8KMulti-Port Hub does not have a USB-C port with video output. The model that does have a USB-C port with video output is our JCD401 USB4 Dual 4K Multi-Port Hub, therefore I recommend purchasing that model instead if you need a USB-C port that supports video.
