Phenomenal Speakers for the Price

These speakers are an incredible value. They originally retailed for around $550 and were worth it at that price. For $300 these speakers are a steal! I am using these in a 2.0 setup in my home theater and couldn't be happier.
These are relatively compact, but put out a fair amount of sound which never distorts or is too harsh for listening. The name of the game is neutrality. These speakers have a very flat response curve and yet have a unique sound signature which is hard to explain. The lows, mids, and highs are all perfectly balanced together which creates a wonderful listening experience.
For watching TV and movies, these speakers also excel. Voices come through as clear and distinct, alleviating the need for a dedicated center channel. Additionally, since these speakers are coaxial (the woofer and tweeter are part of the same unit) the imaging is superb. The sweet spot for these speakers is very broad, so broad that even when I'm cooking in my kitchen which is almost 90 degrees off-center these speakers still sound great!
To say I am happy with my purchase is an understatement. If you are in the market for great bookshelf speakers in the $300 range, you would be crazy not to give these a try.

Best Speakers for the money

I tried several speakers trying to figure out which ones sounded best in my house. These were on sale for 299 a pair. When I got to the register, they were only $229 a pair. Normally, these were $599 per pair. The sound is great. Sometimes, I felt they were lacking a bit in midrange, but I discovered it was the recording. There is little to no coloration in the Q100. The recording is as it was recorded. However, if the music is low quality, that will show up. These are great speakers, and at the current price, they are a steal.

Excellent Book Shelf Speakers for Money. Got with Best Buy one day deal for $330. And it's a steal for this price. Music sound never this better. My Klipsch towers are good for movies but music always sound harsh/too bright on those so this KEF Q100 compliments to music perfectly fine.

Totally satisfied with these speakers. I was going to get the Elac B6, but started to read about these. Although I did not get to do a direct comparison AB, it is hard to imagine the B6 being any better. I use these for streaming MQA on Tidal via a small Class D integrated amp in my small den. Love these!

Good natural sound quality from what I have thought of as an audiophile speaker company for many years. Have always preferred a natural sound reproduction such as what JBL has been known for over decades. This KEF bookshelf Q100 is a joy to listen to with it's quality music performance.

I don't review many products, but I was unhappy with my Klipsch setup. They are not the same speaker as in years past before Audiovox bought them. I saw these KEF q 100's on sale and jumped on them despite recommendations, from other audiophiles, for other brands. I set these up directly next to my Klipsch R 28 F floorstandings and these little bookshelves have a much richer and fuller sound than the towers do. Needless to say I will be replacing my other speakers with KEF's in time...I put these in the front, surround, and rear positions on my 7.2 setup and these speakers are stellar. If you need a small speaker with a rich sound just buy these.

Here’s what I used in my totally non-scientific testing:
Receiver: Pioneer VSX-516-K (crossover set at 80)
Cables and plugs: Mediabridge 14AWG cables and banana plugs
Sub: Emotiva BASX S10
PlayStation 4 Pro (for games)
Sony X800 4k Blu-ray player (for music and films)
FILMS:
Sicario, “Welcome to Juarez” segment. I choose this segment because of its use of subtle sounds and music. The soundtrack takes a backseat for most of the scene, though it needs to shine through at key moments. Most of the dialog is soft but still needs to be heard. And the gunfire, though brief, needs to be clear and have impact.
Batman Begins, “Destruction of The League of Shadows” segment. I like this one because the scene starts off with soft dialog between Christian Bale and Liam Neeson - which must be clearly heard - but when the action begins, you have shouting and swords clashing and explosions. The scene ends with the building exploding and the two actors on the edge of the cliff.
The Dark Knight, “Hospital Explosion” segment. This one is obvious; it’s mainly to see how the speakers react to the hospital explosion scene.
Interstellar, “Entering the Wormhole” and “Visiting the Ocean Planet” segments. I love this first segment because of the way it blends silence, dialog, music, and SFX all at different times. The second segment is great because it involves more action and SFX.
MUSIC:
Depeche Mode, “Exciter” CD. I love this album and felt it was a good test because of the great mixture of vocals, electronic sounds (both analog and digital), acoustic guitar, and processed beats.
Depeche Mode, “Ultra” CD. Another great album and it involves a different mix of guitars, vocals, strings, and electronic sounds.
Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”, CD. My favorite classical piece and I thought it was a good choice to see how the speakers handle the brass and strings at varying volumes.
GAMES:
Batman: Arkham City (PS4).
These are on the small side but quite solid. I’ll admit that I prejudged them based on their looks and size and that was definitely a mistake. Upon firing them up with Sicario, I was immediately impressed, especially when you factor in their size. Running them through the various film segment I didn’t notice any problems. A couple of times they seemed a bit harsh depending on the action on-screen. So I ran through a couple of film segments again with the volume a couple notches lower.
On the music side of things, I thought they performed well. I could play them fairly loud and never felt like the speakers couldn’t handle it. “Barrel of a Gun” sounded sufficiently bombastic. But when “The Love Thieves” came on, I could hear some of that fuzziness in the mid-range area. It also felt a little too loud in the high areas and made me want to dial it down a notch.
“Bolero” sounded good but at times felt a bit in my face. Maybe that has to do with the soundstage not sounding very wide? When playing Arkham City on the PS4, I didn’t have to set the volume as high and yet was able to hear the dialog and SFX just fine.
I felt the KEFs handled film a little better than music. While I did like them and they got me curious about the Q350, I'd probably take the Wharfedale over these.
