you can't go wrong with this burner,so far so good hopefully it'll last me a long time

This is one of the best burners I have owned. I have it in 3 systems now and no problems.

It has reliably played every movie i have put in it with no problems at all. I have not tried burning any Blu-rays yet but regular dvds burn fast on it as do CDs.

This is the first Blueray internal writer I've seen in stores and it does exactly what it promises. I did a file backup using the included blank (with jewel case) and I had no troubles. I used Alcohol 120% instead of the included software but it includes a multimedia suite which makes full use of the hardware. The only flaw I noticed was the eject button is just a raised bump on the panel and not a separate box like most drives. It took me a few seconds more to figure out where it was than I would've liked.

You'd expect that a Blu-ray writer would allow you to actually write Blu-ray discs. The box for this one even touts all of the bundled software (by Cyberlink) and how you can even record HDTV directly to a Blu-ray disc on the fly. Well, all I wanted to do is to edit family movies and burn them to a Blu-ray disc to play in my set-top player. With the bundled software, I could edit the movie, but when it came to burning it to a Blu-ray disc, no such option was presented (even though the unit's box claims that you can do so with the bundled software). When I contacted Cyberlink, they told me that the bundled software is incapable of writing Blu-rays and to contact LG for other software. The box warns specifically against using other software, and LG says it is not their problem, they do hardware, not software. On a side note, be aware that LG did not respond to any of my support request emails with anything other than an email saying to call them, that they don't offer support through email (even though I went through their support email form). So, it is a decent enough unit, and does what I bought it for-- but only AFTER I bought new software for it. It may be able to burn data BD without additional software, but the included software will NOT allow you to burn a movie to BD.

Awesome writer hardware with reliable results, and speeds. Sadly the software that is promised of burning Blu-ray video etc. was slightly misleading. Yes I can burn blu-ray data disc content; but NOT Blu-Ray Video Disk formats. You can however purchase the upgraded software for an extra 50$ and up depending on the package you choose from Cyberlink.
