This TV (Nano 9) has a great picture. the speakers seem pretty good. I am disappointed to find that the TV's of today no longer provide RCA jacks on them so a person who has hearing aids cannot use them to feed a external solution to support the handicap. I need to turn the TV up to hear it and others in the room are forced to listen to the sound that is much too loud for their comfort. My older Samsung has RCA jacks which can be used to feed an external box that feeds my hearing aids via Bluetooth and my wife and others in the room can listen with the volume to the TV speakers at a comfortable level. If a TV company comes out with a TV that includes that option (RCA Jacks for external volume), I will give this TV to one of the Kids and buy another one for my wife and I. I also submitted a picture of RCA Jacks below.

I bought this as an open box in “good condition.” However it is in excellent condition and works great. I also was able to learn about the 3 C’s of TV purchasing from my sales associate. He was very kind and knowledgeable. 3 C’s - color, clarity, contrast. This TV has it all. Literally! My sales person confirmed that this tv met the 3 c criteria. No, it wasn’t a sales pitch. TV looks fabulous.

Installation and initial set up was simple, guided, straightforward. TV is very lightweight but due to size I would highly recommend getting a 2nd person to help with unboxing/installation. Audio is plenty loud and crisp. I'm not a huge audiophile but I typically use a soundbar on my other sets for movies. I'm going to hold out on this one for now as I've found its audio performance to be excellent out of the box. Apps are easy to install once you know how to access the LG Content Store, which wasn't as straightforward as I would've liked, but worked easily once I figured that out. The Magic Remote is easy and fun to use. It's able to control my satellite TV receiver with nearly no set up. My kids love the point and click aspect of it. The interface took me a little while to get used to but that's probably because this is my first LG set. Regardless, its snappy and easy to navigate. What has really blown me away is the quality of the picture. Even with 1080p content this picture is absolutely stunning, and puts my other TV sets to shame. Viewing angles are great and color looks bright and accurate. I find myself watching this TV more than any other simply because I love nature documentaries and I've never seen them look so sharp and detailed. ***I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinion

I am really impressed at the picture quality and how easy it is to navigate the interface. Unboxing is a bit tedious by yourself. The bezels are small about ¼ inch all around. It has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports making this future proof. Overall build of the TV is great, but the stand is wobbly. Running the initial setup was quick and easy. Access to all your web apps are at a click of the home button and LG content store. The TVs next gen processor is set up to make sure your most used apps are always at the touch of a button which is awesome and convenient. Every device I plugged in was recognized by webOS. Especially, LG’s SK9Y soundbar using arc. I was able to control my Xbox, TiVo, Apple TV directly from the remote. The TV is a lot brighter for HDR content compared to my other LG TV. Me and my family tested it watching Captain Marvel twice in a darkroom and the dark's and colors were a lot crisper then last year’s model. This really impressed me and my mother. I also tested it playing Division 2 at 1440P and VRR(known as Freesync) on Xbox. The TV auto detects game consoles and turns on low latency mode. I’m really surprised that the TV supports 1440P when the specs state they don’t and that is a plus for me as an avid gamer. As a consumer I would recommend the LG Nano 9 to my friends and family. Everything about this TV was above and beyond what I expected. There are a lot of small things like the magic remote functionality, HDMI 2.1, WebOS. I can go on listing the positives and comparing but you really do get your money’s worth when you go with LG. Disclaimer: I received an LG TV at a deeply discounted price from the Insiders, however, this review is my honest opinion.

First of all, I am NOT a tech savvy expert. Rather an average Joe that has saved money to purchase a new TV. My old TV was over 13 years old and was showing its age. I spent months researching TV’s, reading reviews and eyeballing sales. I knew I wanted a 4K with all the bells and whistles. For a while, I had my heart set on the Sony X900F. In fact, I would have bought it if they ever promoted this series (I can’t justify spending that type of money without some sort of savings). A few weeks ago I started to notice the LG nano series through Best Buy. After doing some research, I realized the nano 9 had everything I wanted for the price I was willing to spend. So, in a non-tech savvy way, here is my simple review of the TV. The picture on the TV is awesome! As soon as I Installed the TV, I started streaming “one strange rock” on Netflix to test the clarity (I opted for the 4K streaming). Trust me, you can see a difference. While the show was playing, I walked all around the TV to see if the viewing angel changes...it doesn’t. At one point the show showed outer space and it was black! I couldn’t find any blooming or grey colors with my lights on or off (unlike other reviews that stated otherwise). There are a lot of options to change the picture quality. Plus, all the setting options are VERY user friendly. You can actually understand what you want /trying to do without googling it to understand the technical terms. One thing that caught me off guard with this TV is the sound. I can’t believe how great it is. It’s like having a sound system without actually having one. In some cases, I feel as if I’m hearing something behind me...only to find out it was the show I was watching. Great added bonus. I’ve read reviews about the remote. To me, a remote is a remote. However, this one broke the mold in my opinion. At first, I wasn’t too sure about the Wii type control. But, after about a day, it kind of grew on my. After a week, I love it. My kids even love it. I also like how the remote feels in my hands and the options it provides to manage the TV makes it even better. So, there it is. An average Joe review. I am very pleased with my purchase. This TV was in some ways beyond what I was expecting. Heck, I am still figuring out all the bells and whistles. All in all, money well spent. Good job LG

Rich Dolby Vision HDR color marred by blooming!

To preface this review, I am an owner of the Nano 8 series and love that TV. Just like this year's new SM9000, it too features Nano Cell technology which uses LED local dimming. By dimming areas of the picture that are dark while lighting up the parts of the picture that are meant to be bright, LG's "NanoCell" technology makes for incredible contrast ratios and deeper blacks, but it also introduces a problematic side effect: blooming. Naturally, I was very ecstatic to get my hands on the new 2019 NanoCell 9 but unfortunately, the new and improved "Full Array Local Dimming", or "FALD", unintentionally introduces even noticeable blooming because of the result of introducing more LED lights in the display. You should know that FALD features hundreds of mini LED lights behind the panel that work in "zones". Essentially, it works much the same way as local dimming but promises more accurate LED lighting because there are more zones behind the screen. But having multiple zones of these LED lights behind the set continuously dims and brightens the content and causes blooming around any areas in the content that are bright. And because there are much more LED lights working behind the display, the blooming just seems that much more apparent. The result in watching a partially lit shot are obvious splashes of light that bleed all over the place. Alas, there is a way to stop the blooming! It involves turning down or completely off the "LED local dimming" setting, but there's also a side effect to that as well: blacks become very grayish and you lose your high contrast ratios. In the end, there was too many compromises to be had and all this blooming because intolerable to me. I couldn't resist and ultimately purchased the OLED C9 which next to the NanoCell 9, trumps it in contrast ratio with absolute zero blooming. Now even though I am opting for the OLED and that you would think that this review is an entirely negative take on the 2019 NanoCell 9, it isn't really the case. This LCD excels in truly rich colors. Dolby Vision content on my Apple TV makes for truly realistic and vibrant colors. Watching brightly lit content with lots of light in the room makes this LCD set strikingly attractive. Any one of Apple's 4K daytime aerial screensavers delivers a knockout image in color richness and clarity. Watching Netflix's "Our Planet" shows vast landscapes and animal fur such as the mythical Syberian Tiger in very rich vibrant color. The brightly neon lit holographic adverts of futuristic LA in Blade Runner 2049 in 4K from iTunes is stunning and blends colors like pinks and purples euphorically. And I personally don't watch sports, but I would imagine the outdoor fields would look glorious. Other future proofing positives include Dolby Atmos, AirPlay 2, eARC, and WiSA support (I am personally very excited for this one!). It has a7 Gen 2 processor, unlike the more advanced a9 in the OLED, but it should still be great smoothing out gradient color banding, and you have also have an extremely low latency which is perfect for gaming. So what's the big takeaway from this? The blooming sucks and tolerance for it will vary from user to user. I disliked it enough to spend double the amount for an OLED to replace this. You can get away with really liking this LCD if you like to mostly watch TV mostly during the day. Also if you simply can't rationalize spend a lot more. Otherwise, this is a spectacular LCD that is very future proofed. However, if you do watch a lot of content at night and you are willing to spend more, than I cannot recommend highly enough to go for the OLED.

I ordered the 55" SM9000 mainly for the HDMI 2.1 ports and the 120 hz refresh rate as I love to game. I want to use this review to address the primary gripes about this specific set. If you read or watch reviews about the SM9000 you will most likely see complaints about "blooming", the full array dimming, and dark corners. Essentially, the panel and LED lights cannot handle blacks well, and also create a "halo" effect when you have a bright image against a black background. 1) Blooming: Yes, this tv does suffer from blooming. HOWEVER (all caps ha ha) most of this can be calibrated out. After doing some research and spending about 30 minutes with the TV in my family room, I was enjoying fairly rich blacks with minimal blooming. Blooming mainly happened when I had small white text against a black screen. The larger the text negated the effect. After that I have seen any "halo effects" of light subjects against dark backgrounds. 2) Full Array Local Dimming: Okay, so for luddites like me, I had to research this. Basically, TVs with this feature have LED light zones spread across the whole panel which is supposed to improve contrast and black levels. Now, other brands have this feature too. Unfortunately, LG did not build this TV with enough dimming zones. Therefore, if you set Full Array Local Dimming on "High" or even "Medium" (depending on how dark your room is), you will notice inconsistency in the black levels of the picture, as it will take the tv a moment to adjust when the camera cuts to a new shot. HOWEVER, I have noticed that by keeping Full Array Local Dimming on low along with lower backlight allows for much deeper blacks along with a consistent picture. (I immediately watched films like "Blade Runner", The Ring", and "Roma"<which is completely black and white> all in a dark room with no other lights and noticed no inconsistency in picture, blacks that were too "blue" or halo effects. PROS: I got this tv at Best Buy's end of the year sale. For the money, its picture quality has taken my breath away far, far more than disappointed me. It just takes some toggling in the settings to get there. *The colors are very rich but not too saturated. *The blacks will not be OLED quality, but honestly I've been enjoying some fairly deep blacks for an IPS panel. Its comparable to QLED, but Samsung's sets will do better in a dark room (you won't have to do a lot of adjustments for them like this TV). *OS- The operating system on this TV is excellent. I've never had to repeat myself when using a voice search. Plus, the menus and apps are lightning fast. Bottom Line: This isn't an OLED. However, I would make the argument that this is very comparable (not out of the box but with adjustments) to the other brands in its class. It won't be the best in low light, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as some make it out to be. I would definitely recommend this TV , especially now as we approach CES and prices of existing models will go down.

I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinion. I must say when my wife received this LG Nanocell TV I was quite amazing with picture quality and sound. The ease of menus and using apps is quite awesome as well. The controller comes with voice controls and motion controls. If you sync your phone you can use that to control the TV as well. I definitely say 5 out of 5 with this tv and as an avid movie watcher and gamer you will not be disappointed by the picture quality of the stunning 4k graphics when available. I had an old 43 inch Sony Bravia that was a great TV but the sound just didn't compare nor did the picture quality. This has made me fall in love with my living room again and the game apps to play with my family are a good time as well. I would suggest this tv to all my friends and family.

Great 4k TV with some flaws

I have had the LG Nano 9 series 55" 4k tv for about a month now and am overall very happy with the purchase. The value was great for the price point. I would have preferred the 65" if I had more room; however, the 55" does not seem undersized at all. After reading many reviews and comparing specs of the Nano 8 and Nano 9 series, I decided that the 9 was the way to go for the local dimming and refresh rates. The quality of the 9 outweighed getting the 8 in 65" for the same price point when I purchased the tv. Setup of the TV was very easy and it recognized my DirecTv and Sony Receiver and Blu Ray player right away, asking me if I wanted to set them up. The WebOs software is very easy to use and quick to respond. Previously, I used an Apple Tv bos for streaming services. I now use the WebOs as it is so simple to use and the apps work great. Here is where I found flaw #1, no HBO Go. For some reason the HBO app uses a format that WebOs cannot work with. So even though I subscribe to HBO on DirecTv, I cannot get the streaming app without paying for it through another service. I plan on eventually upgrading to the 4k Apple Tv and hooking it up. Streaming from my iPhone works great, is easy to do, and the quality is good, just not 4k good. The picture on the television is incredible. Very clear and the refresh rate is fast. 4k content looks amazing. The second flaw; however, comes from one of the reasons I chose the 9 over the 8. The full array local dimming works great for everything except for extreme dark or almost all black content (title sequences or credits are the most noticible). There is VERY noticeable blooming when watching dark scenes, as the screen is divided up into smaller sections are notably lit when the rest of the screen is dark. The only way to get away from this is to pay way more for an OLED, which was way beyond my price point. The third flaw is the magic remote. While very easy to use and universal for all my other devices, it is missing some key buttons, such as FF, RW, Stop, and DVR list for DirecTv. In order to use those functions, you have to press the "..." buton, then select the DirecTv on-screen controls to use those functions. The on screen pointer works well, as does the voice commands. All in all, this is a great television with some minor flaws. After much research, it seems to be the best choice short of spending much more for an OLED set.

This TV is amazing for the price. I was in the market for a new TV for my bedroom but I am spoiled because I have an OLED in my family room. I was not aware of this TV but when I went to Best Buy I saw it and it is one step down from OLED so it was not as good but close enough for me to enjoy in my bedroom. The picture quality is bright and the blacks pop beautifully, if I didn't know any better I would think it was an OLED. One thing that I discovered by accident that my Magic Remote controls my Xbox One X without having to use my game controller and having to spend on an additional controller by Microsoft. I also love that I can turn my TV off if I am on another room with my Google Home, or I can control my connected items with my TV rather than having to talk to my Google home which saves me money from having to buy mini's. Try it and you will fall in love with it, I am a huge LG fan.

I found this tv for sale as open box for about $500. Picture quality is great. Speakers are fantastic for a tv. If you’re a pc gamer, this tv supports 2560x1440p @120hz but unfortunately not at 4K. Also this tv has a magic remote and it is great. Cons: tv was too cheap to complain. If I paid full price I would complain about the local dimming feature. Local dimming works but it is not reminiscent of an $850 price tag.

I was able to get this TV at a healthy discount from list price, just wanted to make that clear. For the price, getting a major brand 4k TV with 120 hz refresh, Dolby Vision Support, Airplay 2 support, etc is great! The only major flaw I've had with this set is that the local dimming is ATROCIOUS. The blooming that the local dimming produces during dark scenes is horrifying and should be illegal. THAT SAID, when used for HDR and colorful scenes it produces fantastic colors and depth. So if you are someone that watches a lot of dark scened content, HARD PASS. In that case I'd go OLED or QLED to get the best picture. I have no reservations recommending the OLED LG panels, but warn that you must vary your content to prevent burn in (a fatal flaw to the technology, not the brand). Overall, I'm giving it 5 stars with an asterisk. If the blooming bothers you, you can always turn it off for dark movies. I think besides that, it is a solid TV.

I've been a long time, and loyal Samsung TV owner pretty much since the beginning of HDTV technology, and have been pretty happy with Samsung. Then came the day our old 65" 8 series went black, and started smoking. Geek Squad showed up for the repair analysis, and showed me the board, which had quite obviously caught on fire. Not good!!! Luckily, it didn't burn my house down!!! Now, back to the LG. Luckily, I had been researching new TV's for a few months since it was time for an upgrade. Naturally, I was leaning towards the Samsung QLED series, until a visit to a friend's house who had just purchased the LG Nano 9 series, him being a diehard LG guy, and was amazed at the picture quality, resolution, and motion handling. We were watching a Nascar race, and there's no better motion rate handling test than race cars moving through the shot at 200mph!!! I was pretty much sold, but naturally, I did a little more research on the Nano 9, and liked what I read, and definitely liked the price, compared to all the other Samsung QLED, and OLED ($$$$) sets I had been researching. Sure, we'd all like to have the latest and greatest OLED unit out there, and from what I've read, LG is at the top of that technology as well but, #1, I'm kind of cheap, and really can't justify dropping a couple grand on one of those. #2, I'm old, and not super high tech, and my old eyes just really don't see the $1000+ difference between OLED and the Nano 9. Not saying there's not, but just not enough to justify the price difference. I am completely satisfied with my new LG, and I know there are a few negatives being talked about with color blooming, and dark scenes, not cooperating with the backlighting, but I just don't see it. Again, maybe just my old eyeballs, who knows...We've had it for a month now, and I have to say, I'm kind of glad it took a possible house fire, to take me outside the box, and look at different brands. I'm completely happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this set to everyone else like myself that wants an outstanding, user friendly, smart home capable, best processor, and OS available, and just all around awesome TV without having to drop a couple thousand dollars or more!!! Definitely the best bang for the buck!!! In fact, I'm getting ready to purchase the 65", and move the 55" to the bedroom to replace the 49" Samsung. I'll be donating that one to a less fortunate family in need. Fire extinguisher not included!!!

I watched hours of on-line reviews of tvs and had about decided to cull this one from consideration. However, I needed a mid-price tv in a hurry and decided to go ahead and buy this one for now and then get the C9 later. What a great decision! This is one great tv. Very easy set-up, love the WEB OS and the remote, and the picture is crazy good. If you're a serious electronics nerd you may be able to see the differences in the specs of this vs the other big name brands but I surely can't. I have found nothing to complain about so far. Don't hesitate to buy this tv if you're in need and want to spend under $1000. You will not be disappointed.
