Coming out of a dual Dell u3417w setup for my main PC, it took some time to get used to the smaller overall desktop space going from 2 3440x1440 to 1 5120x1440. But was well worth it. The curve is pretty insane compared to the 2 curved Dells I kept side by side. Colors are strong and vivid, but wash out a little near the edges of both sides from certain angles. Most notable if you sit too close to the monitor or don’t have it deep enough on your desk. Pretty easily solved by tweaking your desk setup. And it WILL take up the desk. Even the stand. So if you have a smaller desk, be prepared. I have a 63in desk and the monitor eats up almost entire width, leaving roughly 9in on either side if centered. The stand also eats up a good chunk of space. My plan is to connect my gaming rig to it eventually. The one big downside is I’m going to have to choose which rig gets the HDMI and which gets the DP, since there is only 1 DP on this monitor and 2 HDMI. Setup was a doozy. The monitor is awkward to carry and the box is basically useless…be sure not to grab the box from the “grab” openings…the cardboard will rip right off like it did for the delivery guy and me when I brought it into the house. It’s deceptively heavy even after unboxing. Just give yourself time if moving to a different floor, or you WILL hit a wall (don’t ask me how I know this lol). Sorry for the wall of text, the BB app on iPad has no “return” button for nice paragraphs lol

I got this monitor for $850 plus tax (on sale) and it is definitely a great value for the money. I was very worried about getting one with dead pixels or some sort of issue just from reading horror stories from people who bought Samsung products but LG has much better quality control and I have had zero issues with monitor after owning it for a couple months or so. I came from 1080p monitors and this looks amazing.

LG makes a great product here, I was gaming pc on a 70in LG tv for a long time, but i wanted something with a faster refresh rate and that was meant for gaming. This monitor is massive, screen is super crisp, works great. Button does feel a bit cheap but other than that i lovrit. The Fedex driver did drop ot when delivering but bestbuy did right by me for the mishap

Completely satisfied with this purchase! Gaming experience is immersive, cooled are bright, image is unexpectedly vivid and clear for a non OLED dispay. I was such between this and an OLED model, and i went with this because i thought of some other things i could do with The money saved. I am 100% confident that I made the right choice.

This LG monitor cannot show the images fullscreen on my Macbook Pro. When the setting is set to full screen the images and texts are distorted. To be able to see images and text without distortions it has to be set to use 2/3 of the screen. I contacted LG support and no one could help me resolve this. The only reason I kept the monitor is because I use another computer at the same time and I connect it to the monitor and use the 1/3 that is unusable from my Macbook. I definitely would not recommend this monitor if you use a Macbook.

Hi, Greg. Thank you for sharing your experience with your LG Monitor (49GR85DC-B) model. We understand your concern about your MacBook Pro doesn't display images and text correctly in fullscreen mode. For optimal compatibility, we recommend ensuring that your MacBook Pro's display resolution matches the monitor’s native resolution of 5120 x 1440 at 240Hz. Additionally, adjusting the scaling settings on your MacBook Pro via System Settings > Displays might help improve clarity.

If the issue persists, updating your MacBook's operating system and ensuring the monitor's firmware is up-to-date could resolve compatibility concerns. For guidance, you may visit https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-monitor-how-to-update-monitor-firmware--20153819322140. My first reaction to a 49” monitor is how the heck am I going to fit that on my desk. I already run two 25” monitors for work and this LG Ultragear 49” surprisingly doesn’t take up any more desk real estate than my 2 monitor setup. A 32:9 ratio of the LG 49” is much different than a traditional 16x9 ratio of a TV found in your living room. Pros: *240hz and 1ms blazing fast speeds for gaming *Can run 2 sources at the same time *Nearly 4k resolution *HDR Cons *Only 3 source input *Your video card may not support 5120x1440 *Blacks is ok As I mentioned earlier, I already ran 2 monitors before for work productivity but only gamed on 1 of the two 25” monitors because I didn’t like the bezel that splits your vision. This LG curved 49” solves my need for widescreen gaming and increased work productivity. The one caveat is that your video card will need to be able to handle a 5120x1440 resolution. My gaming rig has an RTX 3080 card that can handle the increased resolution but my older personal macbook and work supplied laptop doesn’t support the 32:9 ratio. You can get around that by running the monitor in Picture-By-Picture (PbP) mode and running dual monitors at 2560x1440 which is essentially splitting the monitor’s native resolution in half but still use all of the 49” screen. Speaking of PbP mode, it also does PiP mode if you want as well. Let’s chat about gaming first as this monitor's first priority is speed. 240hz and 1ms response time is preferred for competitive FPS shooters. The high resolution of 5120x1440 is fantastic and just nearly 88% of the way to full 4k resolution. With my RTX 3080, I’m able to get between 95-120fps at 5120x1440 full resolution on Ultra with the latest Halo Infinite in MP and solo campaign. In the high 60fps with Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra but ray tracing off. Just note that unless you have the latest gen video card, running 5120x1440 resolution is very taxing on your gaming rig that you may need to turn down some of the quality settings to hit your desired FPS. The curved radius of the screen just adds to the immersiveness. Playing at the full 32:9 ratio and 1000R curved radius screen makes me feel like I’m in the game as the monitor nearly goes past my peripheral vision. Cherry on top is that you can have the monitor add a middle crosshair to your screen so you can easily no-scope a sniper rifle in FPS games. In terms of work productivity, this 49” is a game changer. Even though my work laptop doesn’t have the power to run a native 5120x1440, I can run dual monitors in PbP mode to achieve the same result with two screens running 2560x1440. I can have multiple excel spreadsheets, email and a browser open and have room to spare on the screen. To run dual monitors, It does take 2 HDMI cables to pull this off. This is where I wish the monitor had more inputs than the 3 it has. It has 2 HDMI and 1 display port. It’s not widely advertised on LG’s website but LG does offer a free program called “Dual Controller” that you can use one keyboard and mouse to run two computers on the same screen at the same time. In summary, this monitor is a beast and best bang for the buck for the resolution and functions. While it’s no OLED, the DQHD is more than sufficient in color and brightness. The black levels aren’t OLED levels but fine for the price point. At this size, be prepared to turn your head more to view content on the other side of your monitor. You won’t be disappointed in replacing your current dual monitor setup or just enlarging your current one monitor setup. Just make sure your desk can support the 33lb monitor.

    Multipurpose Gaming Monitor!

The LG UltraGear 49” curved monitor is a mammoth of a monitor. I have never owned such a wide monitor, so this was certainly a surprise at first. And while the monitor is breathtakingly amazing and great for many uses, it does have its cons. In this review, I will explain my thoughts on the LG UltraGear 49” LED Curved Monitor. *TLDR at the bottom =========== IN THE BOX/SETUP: In the box, you will get a 49” curved monitor, monitor stand, HDMI cable, DisplayPort cable, USB-A to USB-B cable, cable management accessories, and some paperwork. If you do end up getting this monitor, make sure you are opening the box on the correct side. The box I received had some lettering covered saying to open it from the other side, so there was some struggle assembling this monitor at first. Aside from that, this monitor was all plug-and-play. Plug in the power and your computer/console, etc. and it is all ready to go. There are optional cable management accessories that attach to the monitor that you can use, I used mine, so my cables aren’t all over the place. =========== FIRST IMPRESSIONS: One of the first obvious downsides for this monitor is the amount of desk space that this monitor will require. I don’t have a giant desk but after some rearranging, I managed to find a great spot for it with some additional space to spare. Before this monitor, I was using 2 27” monitors so it certainly was a different setup than I am used to. The base is large too so be prepared to make some space for it. The monitor itself has RGB lights on the back which are customizable through the monitor’s settings. The bezels are kept to a minimum which makes everything even more immersive than it already is. The monitor uses a joystick for settings navigation. This is located right under the “UltraGear” logo. While it is nice, sometimes it does get the wrong input which I found was a bit cumbersome. I would’ve liked a remote of some sort, especially at this price range. =========== FEATURES: The monitor has several inputs. 2 HDMI ports, one DP port, a USB-B port, 2 USB-A ports, and an AUX located on the underside of the monitor. With a resolution of 5120 x 1440, you will get a great boost of quality if you are coming from a monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The 32:9 aspect ratio provides an excellent amount of screen space for all your needs. As someone in IT, this is great for multitasking purposes. One of my favorite features of this monitor is the PiP/PbP(Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture) modes. This model allows one to run two separate input sources at the same time. I was able to run my computer on one side of the screen and my PS5 on the other, which was enjoyable. There are too many to list but within the monitor’s settings, there are other customizable features for picture and game. =========== PERFORMANCE: In terms of performance, this monitor can handle a lot. (assuming you have a beefy PC to go along with it) For those who work from home or are master multitaskers, this is an outstanding monitor for you. I work in IT and am an avid multitasker so having multiple tabs and windows open is always the case for me. With this, I can lay my windows and tabs across the screen to mimic a triple monitor setup. What’s even better is that there are no black bulging bezels between the windows! With PC gaming, this monitor provides some breathtaking visuals for games that support the 5120 x 1440 resolution. Initially, I did notice a lot of my games were loading up with the incorrect or previous resolutions of my old monitors. I was able to quickly adjust these settings within most games. However, there were some games like House of Ashes and Control, that simply did not support this resolution and therefore I had to play the game with bezels on both sides. The games that were supported like Forza Horizon 5 and Destiny 2 provided some immersive visuals that were pleasing to the eye. These games specifically, did have a greater FOV than usual which was neat to see. For console gaming, I used a PS5 to test this monitor out. If you are thinking of getting this monitor just for your gaming consoles, I would reconsider. Unfortunately, modern consoles like the PS5 do not support the 5120 x 1440 resolution of this monitor. The picture will fill up the screen, but it will appear stretched. If you switch the monitor’s settings to the original resolution of the PS5, the picture will appear in the middle with fat bezels on both ends. It looks alright but I wasn’t pleased enough. Through trial and error, the best way I found to play the PS5 on this monitor was to enable PiP/PbP mode and select the third option which outputs the picture to 3/4ths of the screen. The downside to this is that HDR and VRR will be disabled. On the bright side, my brain did eventually ignore the bezels and it did feel that I was gaming on a 30-some-inch monitor. The PS5 for some reason defaults to 4k in PiP mode so quality did not take a hit. (not true 4k because the monitor does not have 4k resolution) In other words, this monitor can be used for a gaming console, but you will need to do some workarounds to optimize your gaming experience. =========== CONCLUSION/TLDR: Overall, this is an amazing ultra-wide monitor. LG hit a home run! I would recommend this monitor if you were planning to use it with a computer. Just make sure you have enough desk space! I would not use this for console gaming due to the lack of support for the resolution from the consoles. However, some workarounds will make the picture appear acceptable enough for gaming. If you are a multitasker like me, you will seriously enjoy the real estate that this monitor has to offer. It is like having 3 monitors in one! In terms of PC gaming, the monitor is fully capable of handling a wide array of games at this resolution. I did find some that weren’t supported (games still ran but with bezels on the sides) but I would do your due diligence before making a major investment. But if you are convinced that this one is the right one for you, I would wholeheartedly recommend you try this ultra-wide monitor by LG.

LG UltraGear is a gaming powerhouse because of its fast 240Hz refresh rate and very low input lag times, this added with gaming adjustments such as crosshair for first person shooters and VRR/HDR/DAS mode this is one of the best gaming monitors around. The Good: When I got that box I was stunned, this thing looked HUGE however once I took it out of the box I noticed it was not as tall as my other 32 inch curve and this made it actually easier on my eyes to look at. I was expecting some adjustment time but didn’t really have any issues whatsoever. The display on the LG is as stunning as you can get with a VA panel, colors look crisp and text is clear (as long as your machine is able to do the full resolution) and the blacks are way better than IPS panel (not as good as OLED though). The screen is also very color accurate with DCI-p3 at 95% out of the box incase you want to use this to edit photos/videos. The display gets extremely bright and has a anti-reflective coating on it which helps reduce reflections. As stated earlier I thought the screen size was going to be too much that couldn’t have been further from the truth, the size of the screen and the curve give you a uniquely immersive experience when it comes to gaming and it feels as if your in the game. The high refresh rate and low input lag helped me fair a little better when playing against others online. All of the ports are in the back, I prefer this over being on the underside because you can easily see where you’re inputs are and plugging them in is a breeze. Besides gaming the thing I was impressed with was the PBP (picture by picture) and PIP (picture in picture) modes, these are a god sent for someone who likes to use 2 different input devices at once. I absolutely loved the fact that I was able to use my work computer on one side and personal computer on the other, since the screen is so big LG allows you to change the size of the PBP/PIP feature which works incase your machines cant keep up with the UltraGear. The monitor stand is nice and sturdy and can move up/down and tilts a lil bit if you need it. You can also move the monitor sideways to have access to the ports. The Bad: The selection buttons response on the monitor is a bit slow and takes roughly 1 to 2 seconds after you have pushed it. Auto input adjustment (HDMI 1/HDMI 2/DP switching is not perfect, and without a remote you have to do it manually. The monitor at times tends to stay on even if the device that is using it isn’t powered/sleep mode. Overall: The LG UltraGear is a great monitor with tons of gaming features to help improve your game and doubles perfectly for your work life if you have a machine that’s capable of handling it.

I got this monitor for me and my wife, who works from home 2 days a week (and some weekends). When I told her we would get a 49-inch monitor she almost spit out her pasta before I finished my sentence. She didn't think we needed something so gigantic. She was used to using her laptop as one screen and our 27-inch monitor as her other. It worked for her because she was used to it, but I knew better. She needed a bigger monitor for what she was doing, and I was excited for her because I knew how much of a game-changer it would be. The package the monitor comes in is humungous. I couldn't believe my eyes when the delivery was dropped off. I pulled it into the house, and once again, my wife shook her head in protest. I told her not to worry about it. I'd unbox it, set it up, and prepare everything for her to test. It took about 30 minutes for me to get everything the way I wanted. I'm a slow unboxer, too. I make sure I organize the recycling as I go. The space we have for this monitor is perfect. I measured before I ordered it to ensure we'd have enough room, and while it was tight, I confirmed that we had enough space before ordering. The stand is hefty, as it should be with such a big monitor, but luckily, the feet aren't too intrusive to the desk space. We're considering getting a free-standing arm for the desk, but it's not necessary so far. It may be for your set-up, though. I was in love when I fired the monitor up for the first time. The screen is gorgeous, and the real estate is on another level. If you think you have an idea of how the screen will look with your PC or Mac connected to it, you don't. You'll be blown away. My PC didn't automatically apply the correct aspect ratio, but you can play with what works best for you and your eyes. Speaking of your eyes, getting used to as you perform your usual tasks will take time. You'll notice how "engulfed" you'll be within the visuals. The curve design isn't for everyone, and before setting it up, I was nervous I was one of those people who wouldn't like it, but after using it, I quickly found out it helps with engagement quite well. It wraps around your POV to give you that whole experience as if your head is in a VR helmet. It's wonderful. We have another workspace downstairs. And with that monitor, we have an LG OLED 27-inch screen that I absolutely love. I wondered how an LED screen would match up against the beloved OLED, but the 49-inches don't leave me missing the OLED. Maybe it's because it's so big that I can't compare apples to apples, but it's great that the screen is equal to the OLED in most aspects. Sure, the blacks on this LED aren't as black, but the colors are still gorgeous and vibrant. As soon as you get it set up, you must install "LG Onscreen Control." This is obvious if you read through the manual, which I'm sure most of us don't. You can download the control app from the monitor's driver list on LG's site. It's easy to find after you put in the model number. This app will allow you to set up your screen how you want. Do you want a quarter of your screen on YouTube? And the rest of the screen, your email? You can do that. You can divide up your screen how you desire with the app, and it's super easy to do once the application is installed. My wife's Mac and PC were straightforward to set up with. That's where this monitor really shines. You can have 3 screens in one and not feel like you have to squint to read anything. It really is a game-changer. My wife loves her set-up after working a single day with the monitor. She said she wished we'd have gotten something like it long ago. I knew she'd love it. This is simply a game-changer. And with LG's quality, you can rest assured you're getting a product that doesn't have quality control issues. This monitor is fantastic. And it's less than you'd think. It regularly goes on sale for less than $1000. Even at the MSRP of $1300, it's worth it. My 27 LG OLED monitor was $1000, so to think you can get almost twice as much screen real estate for $300 is wild. I do wish it came with a remote, as some monitors do. I've gotten used to changing settings, inputs, and such with a remote downstairs on the OLED. I'd also like for them to have added speakers to the monitor. I use external speakers, but adding a speaker to the bottom of this beast would have provided some excellent, engaging sound. It also doesn't have a USB-C display input, which is a shame. However, you'll have no issues with the two HDMI inputs. My previous monitor only had one, so we had to constantly switch it whenever we switched between my wife's Mac and my PC. Trust me when I say you'll love this thing. It's a "gaming" monitor, but so much more. I've played a few games on it (Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077), and while I wish those games were formatted explicitly for the entire screen, you'll still be able to play with excellent visuals on the large screen (with black borders). There's virtually no delay, either. It's very impressive. The package the monitor comes in is humungous. I couldn't believe my eyes when the delivery was dropped off. I pulled it into the house and once again, my wife shook her head in protest. I told her not to worry about it. I'd unbox it and set-up and get everything ready for her to test out. I've played a few games on it (Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077), and while I wish those games were specifically formatted for the entire screen, you'll still be able to play with very nice visuals on the large screen (with black borders). There's virtually no delay either. It's very impressive.

--- SETUP --- For the size and heft of this monitor, this was a pleasantly surprised easy installation. There are 3 main components you need to connect: The monitor, the monitor stand, and the leg base. Installation doesn’t even require any additional tools like a screwdriver. --- FEATURES --- Refresh rate of 240Hz, native resolution of 5120 x 1440, response time 1 millisecond, FreeSync compatible, 49 inches of screen, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 1 Displayport, Contrast Ratio 3000:1, LED, Aspect Ratio 32:9, Curved Screen, 450 candela per square meter, HDR includes HDR10-VESA Certified-DisplayHDR1000, 3 USB ports, 2 USB-C ports, tiltable, weight: 32 pounds, --- PERFORMANCE AND EXPECTATIONS --- This monitor arrived in a humongous box! It was necessary to protect it from all the traveling it had to do during delivery. There is a specific way to open the box, so find the instructions that tell you were to open the box from, as the box itself is part of the assembly instructions. Upon opening the box, I removed the monitor and was pleasantly surprised to only find 3 main parts to work with. Install the stand to the monitor while the monitor is safely facing down in the box. Then, install and screw the legs to the stand using the included screw, which can be tightly turned by hand. Lastly, use the box as leverage to help you get the monitor standing on the floor. Once the monitor is standing on the floor, it makes it easy to safely remove the box from the actual monitor. To safely carry the monitor, it requires two people. It only weighs 32 lbs, but you don’t want to apply pressure on the monitor itself and damage it. The monitor is amazing for all things I tried it on. Being a gaming monitor, I tried it with games I already had installed. For reference, I play games on a PC with the following specs: Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700KF 3.40 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Most games, I am able to run on high settings with ray tracing on at either 120 or 240 Hz. I played Starfield first. I was enjoying the game as it looked stunning, but Starfield doesn’t support 5120 x 1440 yet. So, my experience with this game was a square in the middle of the monitor with black on the left and right sides. After finding a list of games that do support 5120 x 1440 resolution, I ended up playing the following: City Skylines 2, Dead Space Remake, Plagues Tale: Requiem, Control, and Hogwarts Legacy. For sim games like City Skylines, the extra space that fills the entire monitor is extra appreciated! You can now plan better, seeing more of the games available resources. For all other action games, playing at a 5120 x 1440 resolution made the game a much more immersive experience. I did have to adjust the settings on my PC, but after making individual adjustments per game, I was very impressed by what the monitor could do with HDR on after HDR calibration. I own a lot of gaming consoles, but with this monitor, I foresee myself spending more time gaming on my PC. Next, I use editing software on my MacBook Pro. I edit photos and videos as part of my side business. This monitor supports both, picture by picture (PBP - windows next to each other, including from a second input source, such as HDMI 2) and picture in picture (PIP - one window from a second input source on top of the main source, such as HDMI 1). Having the extra desktop space, I ran my MacBook Pro in HDMI 2 while I also ran my gaming PC through the display port as the main source. I was able to combine work and play and switch between the two as needed. For editing, sometimes I have to wait for my colleagues to approve or give me feedback on a project. While I wait, I can be playing my game on source 1 and jump back into source 2 without losing a beat. This monitor is essentially 3 monitors in one and can be used as such with a variety of configurations. Even if you aren’t running a second source and you’re just using 1 computer, opening search multiple search engine tabs and dragging them to the edge of the monitor presents you with presets on how to arrange all tabs. This is very useful and it is like having 3 separate screens without the interference of each screen’s bezel. --- APPROVAL --- LG UltraGear is one very impressive monitor that more than satisfies all my needs for recreation, work, and then some! I would recommend this for gaming enthusiasts who are looking for the ultimate immersive experience, for people who work with editing software, or for anyone who always needs extra desktop space! Once you get this monitor, you’ll find it hard to go back to anything less than this experience!

LG rolls out an eye-catching display with their 49” ultrawide monitor, boasting a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz and a truly mesmerizing 5120x1440 resolution. Dive deep into your favorite game titles that can fully embrace this monitor's capabilities, and the immersion is breathtaking. When paired with proficient window management software, monitors of this caliber make the idea of multiple screens seem old-school. Windows 11 incorporates a nifty feature that lets you pinpoint a section of the screen for a window by simply dragging it towards the top. There are also tools out there that auto-place windows based on what’s open and the hot-keys you've set for action. The picture-in-picture function is a nice touch, adjusting itself when it senses a specific input signal. You get a variety of configurations, letting you pick the position and size of the secondary input. While I appreciate the feature, it felt a tad sluggish in action. The secondary display also seemed a bit washed out compared to the primary, dominant display. However, your mileage might vary based on your source. Not every game can flex to this mammoth resolution. Several competitive fighting games might not back this resolution because of genuine concerns about unfair advantages. Yet, for those that do, this screen becomes a gamer's paradise. MMORPGs and flying/driving simulations are top picks for this display. Once you've had a taste, downgrading feels unthinkable. Seriously unthinkable.

Great monitor overall and really like all the customization options within the menu system. The only down side is the stand is a bit wobbly if you have a powered sit/stand desk as the desk is moving. Well designed and balanced. Every once in a while I need to power cycle the monitor to get it to power back up after being in sleep mode, however I think that has more to do with my graphics card and computer than this monitor.

Super nice piece of technology, great for PC and MAC products, screen customization was easy to figure out, if you are looking for monitors for consoles, specifically Xbox, would advise you to reconsider only because XBox resolution isn’t compatible with that size of screen mostly because of the long screen, but other than that, super great product for productivity

It does what the samsung one does but doesnt look as cool. Also, the stand it comes with is not very stable and takes up a HUGE section of desk. Obviously, I know it has to be designed that way to account for the ridiculous size of the monitor but it is still important to consider. Also, the OSD kinda sucks and 60hz if you don't have HDMI 2.1 graphics card (which I guess is the 40 series)
