The purpose of this speaker is to have a Bluetooth speaker that will survive drops, falls, spills, being dropped into water, sand at the beach, etc. With that purpose in mind, this is a good speaker. Is the sound quality as good as some other Bluetooth speakers in this price range? No, it's not. But that's not the point. The sound is decent, albeit heavy on the treble with very little bass. Using the equalizer feature on my phone to add some bass only created distortion. Rock, Country, etc will sound good. Anything that's heavy on bass will be lacking. It can get loud but it starts to distort at higher levels. But again, that's not the point. When it comes to having a Bluetooth speaker that gives you a worry free experience, this is great. I have taken this outside and dropped it onto concrete from a few feet in the air. I filled up the sink and submerged the speaker, while it was playing music, for a few minutes. Unless you hold it down, it floats. Again, a great thing for people who camp, have a lake house or a boat, or just go to the beach a lot. Dirt doesn't get in and any dirt you get on it can just be washed off by running it under the sink or with a hose. That my friends, is THE POINT of this speaker. It can take a beating and still come back for more. I have another brand that has much better sound quality, but if I take it into the garage while I'm doing work or outside, I always have to carefully place it and make sure it doesn't fall or get wet. This speaker has good enough sound quality and alleviates all of those concerns with having it outside. Also, with the way it's designed, you can stand it on end or even use the handles on the ends to hang it from a ladder or wherever if you're working and don't have a place to set it. I gave it 4 stars for decent sound quality, number of ports and options for playing music, ease of Bluetooth connectivity and overall design and ruggedness. I did mark one star off because in my water test, I notice that while the water was mostly kept out of the dry box compartment, there were some drops pretty close to making it in (see pictures). The only concern there is the usb and aux jacks that don't have covers. Honestly you wouldn't be able to put much in the drybox outside of some credit cards, cash, keys, etc. Maybe an ipod shuffle or nano for listening to music, but it is a very small compartment. I'm also not a huge fan of the proprietary charger but I have other's that have the same issue so I can't take a star away. Just be aware of it. For someone looking for a speaker for in the house or at the office, I wouldn't recommend this. For someone who wants to give this to a young child, or someone who does construction or just works outside a lot, I would highly recommend this. If you are near the water or go to the beach a lot and need a speaker, this is for you. There is a larger version that might have a little more kick to it but I think this is a good travel size. Battery life was a little over 12 hours in my test...oh, and it has 2 USB power out ports so you can charge your phone from the speaker. In a pinch, that could end up being the best feature! So if you're the type who likes stuff to just work out of the box and stand up to your abuse, I recommend.

I need to update my previous product review. I discovered, quite accidentally, how to enable external device charging on the Aquaphonics AQ10. Note that this is 1) not described in the user manual and 2) was not communicated to me on my call to Aquaphonics tech support. To enable external charging. 1. Turn off the device by pressing the power button. 2. Plug in the USB cable, and connect the device to be charged to the cable. Have the device on and drawing power. 3. Press the power button on the AQ10 once. The power button will illuminate briefly and power will begin flowin from the USB power port(s). The AQ10 will NOT itself power on when it is providing power. One star deduction for having to figure this out myself. Aquaphonics should disclose this and it should be known by tech support. The attached photo shows the illuminated USB power cord active.

Very nice waterproof speaker for its size. This speaker came in very high end packaging, nice first impression (think of a high end smart phone presentation). The unit was easy to pair and begin using. It appears this speaker is designed in a way that you can put a strap around it to secure it to something like a boat, dock, ATV etc. I will point out that once strapped down you may have a hard time getting to the controls on the top. Speaking of the controls, they are pretty interactive. As soon as your fingers get close to them they light up. Nice touch. The dry storage on the bottom is a nice touch as well. You could fit multiple credit cards, key card, chap stick etc. It looks like it is even designed to fit a small MP3 player within this storage compartment as it contains a USB changing port and 3.5mm AUX IN within this compartment. (Source button on top would allow you to select this port) There is a USB POWER OUT on the side to charge your phone/MP3 along with another 3.5mm AUX IN. The sound quality is nice for the size. Volume is not bad either. I would have liked to hear a little more bass and I do get a little distortion at full volume. I have heard better sound from ‘Non’ Water, Dirt, Snow and Drop proof units. My experience is that when you purchase a unit that is waterproof you lose a little sound quality, but at this price I was hoping for a little more hence my 4 star rating. I absolutely love using this in our hot tub though; just put it on the edge with no worries if it falls in. (I actually did drop it in intentionally and it floats like advertised and kept working with no problems.) Below are my pros and cons: Pros: Quality made and good looking unit. Interactive light-up buttons Dry storage compartment Durable Built-In Mic for phone calls Charging port Water proof, Dirt Proof, Snow Proof, Drop Proof Floats Good Battery Life Nice Bluetooth range Cons: Would like more bass . Controls not accessible if strapping down Bottom line, Overall a very nice look and the size is great for portability. I found it to sound best when close by or in a contained area. If you are looking for loud music feel with bass, maybe look at the larger unit. With that said, the quality of the build is very good, and hey, it floats!

The packaging is attractive and thick for extra protection. Unit was shipped with no power (some I’ve had in the past ship with at least a 50% charge) I charged the unit with the supplied AC power supply (2 hrs), there is also a USB power out and a 3.5 mm audio-in via the cover at the end cap of the unit. On the opposite end of the box are the power button and the lock for the water tight lock box (box must be locked to be water proof!), The lock box is about ½ inch deep, 2 ¼ inches wide and 4 ¼ inches long. This is not enough room to hold a Galaxy S6 or IPhone 6. But more than enough room to store credit cards and cash. It has a solid fit that I have no doubt is water proof. Inside the lock box there is also a USB for charging and another 3.5mm for audio in. On the top of the unit (controls) there are basically 7 buttons, for Bluetooth, Play/Pause/Repeat, Forward, Back, Volume +/- and source button (changes between phones or devices that are paired) Quick start type instruction in included in the box, nothing detailed. So, you need to go to the website if you need more complete instructions. Sound quality is good, But I noticed some slight distortion at the higher levels, the treble is spot on but bass is lacking. Not a game changer for most, but may be if you listen to and enjoy booming bass sound. I ran an app test for sound Decibels and It had a max range of 85-87 decibels. Which is considered almost factory machine level at 3 feet. This speaker also allows calling in function, when someone calls just hit the + symbol to answer and – to hang up. Calls came through very clear. Unit is surprisingly light weight for what it can do, easy to pack for days at the beach or picnics, or just hanging near the pool, you don’t have to worry about water damage when closed tight, this will with stand 30 minutes submersed in 1.5 meters under water. But it floats so just don’t take it snorkeling. I would recommend this to my friends and family for a good water day or any day type of speaker with no worries of damage. But if they were looking for deep pounding bass, I would send them elsewhere and I would also remind them that it won’t be waterproof more than likely.

So I have had different low end Bluetooth speakers, but this LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a huge step up in performance and engineering. It's small footprint is great so you can easily find a place to put it, on your boat, next to your camper, or on the ground while you work. We used this over the past weekend while we camped. I was surprised at it's range, It was playing at our camper and we walked down quite a few sites to a family members site, and my daughter verified that it was still playing my playlist. Some of the positive aspects of this unit, is it's rich and balanced sound quality, it's lastability (13 hour rechargeable battery), it's submersibility up to 1 meter for 30 minutes (which I have not tested yet), it's drop-ability from 1.2 meters, it's sealability from dirt, dust and snow, it's charge-ability (yes it can charge other usb devices) it's dry-ability (for money, credit cards, id, or mp3 player, and finally it's call-ability (it has it's own microphone). This is a unit with a ton of capabilities... Now for the one thing that really bothers me about this device, and it actually had a considerable impact it's overall rating and lost a star because of it. At this point we all have plenty of chargers with Micro Usb connectors on it. I love that most of my devices use this type of connector, so I am not searching every time I want to charge a device for their specific charger. This has a proprietary charger included with it. So I will always have to keep up with where I have this stored this bugger. The hope the engineers of this device designed it in this way solely to maintain the durability of the charge port. I would recommend this to a friend, even with it's charging shortcomings.

Good Sound & Protection Against the Elements

Design: I like the sleek look and coloring of this LifeProof Aquaphonics speaker. Despite its lightweight feel, the speaker seems durable. The highlight of the speaker’s design is water-resistance, as well as dirt and dust resistance, which makes it a great outdoor speaker. Although I have not put this speaker through strenuous testing, it is nice to know that if it should rain, the speaker will not be damaged. Also, dirt can easily be washed off with water. Finally, on the top of the speaker, there are large, easy to use buttons for power and controlling your music, so it is great that I do not have to search around the speaker for the right button. They also aluminate, which is helpful at night. Sound Quality: Compared to other Bluetooth speakers of similar size, I would consider the LifeProof Aquaphonics speaker to have good sound quality but not excellent, which is my reasoning for a four-star rating. At the price point, I expected more out of this speaker. While the sound is clear and fills smaller rooms or distances just fine, there is some distortion at louder volumes and the bass is a bit lacking. Battery Life: The LifeProof Aquaphonics speaker has great battery life. 13 hours is the advertised battery life, and I would say that is accurate. I typically use the speaker for an hour or two each day, so one charge lasted me a whole week, which is satisfactory for me. Other Features: The drybox is an added plus to the LifeProof Aquaphonics speaker. There is not a lot of room, but I have found it useful for small items like a house key or cash. Even when the speaker gets wet, the drybox effectively keeps my items dry. In addition, the Bluetooth pairing process was easy and my connection still works from a good distance away. Verdict: Overall, the LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 is a good Bluetooth speaker. If you are looking for an outdoor speaker that is durable and provides protection against the elements, I would recommend this one. However, if you do not need those features, I would test out the sound quality of different options.

When it comes to sound, that is the most important to me, along with functionality. The first thing that I have noticed that it significantly lacks on the low end. Great on the highs. It has poor base. But there is give and take. If you enjoy the outdoors, and want to make sure that your devices are protected, this product does very well. When I go boating, I don’t have to worry about keeping my phone out and playing music from there, I can use the LifeProof Aquaphonics, not have to worry about water damage or drop damage. I can already say that this product has already withstand a fair amount of abuse. The design is very nice looking. I like the switch that disables the buttons. I don’t have to worry about accidental button pushes. The drybox is a the nice feature. I can keep must of my valuables locked in my car and keep my key secured in my drybox. Something of this quality, I did not expect this long battery life, and also the feature to charge your devices too. All my friends ask me about this LifeProof speaker. So, I can say great job!

Ok i have to say i was very impressed with the Life Proof AQ10 speaker. The speaker does have a great sound indoors and out i will say if you have a song with to much bass and have the volume up all the way it will sound a little distorted. So they say this is water proof well i did sink it in the bottom of my sink filled with water and it still worked. After i let it go from the bottom it floated and still played. The waterproof compartment did stay dry that was great. My phone wouldn't fit in there i have a note so it is a big phone it may have fit in the AQ11 witch is bigger. So they say it's drop proof so i dropped it from 3ft and it didn't stop i have to say i'm very happy with the way it is built. I do a lot of golfing so this will be my new speaker for that and going out to the pool. I like how the buttons on the top of the speaker light up when you touch them and the power button and battery life shows how much power you have left. There is a lock switch on the side that lock the functions down so they will not work. That a good feature to have. The case is a hard plastic and the buttons on top are a soft rubber. I got the grey and green one color was nice. On the speaker case there are long slots the you can strap it to your bag or tie it down if needed. I have a lot of bluetooth speakers and i will say this is one of the top one's for me to use outside i don't have to worry about the weather with this one witch is nice.

It's overpriced but very well built. The body is very tough and it can handle falls, dirt and float on water. It looks and feels like a tactical tank bluetooth speaker. Sound quality is great but needs a little improvement when volume is maxed out. Storage area is small and can only hold a few keys, 1 Id, 3credit cards and cash. Keep in mind this unit is great at pool parties, tailgate parties and the outdoors. It was designed to take a punch and keep going.

AQ10 Quick Start Guide Care and Maintenance Manual AC Adapter Limited Warranty Pamphlet (1 year warranty) Setup/Testing/Conclusion I really enjoyed the packaging on the Lifeproof AQ10. The design/marketing personnel at Lifeproof really did an amazing job. What can I say? I’m a box guy… Not only was the packaging aesthetically pleasing, it also kept the AQ10 protected. The material on the unit itself is made of heavy duty plastic/rubber silicon. If you’re worried about fingerprints; don’t be! It's quite heavy so if you’re looking to take this snowboarding or surfing with you on your hip; think again! To pair the unit itself to a mobile phone; that was extremely easy and effortless. Setup was simple; you literally power on the device by holding down the power button and click on the Bluetooth button. Once you power on the device and click on the Bluetooth button; you simply look for the device “Lifeproof AQ10” on your mobile device and voila! The sound quality is decent compared to other portable Bluetooth speakers that I have come across. It's definitely not the highlight of the AQ10. The AQ10 may sound “loud” but I feel like it’s missing the “surround” sound feeling. The highlight of the AQ10 is the durability and versatility. I tried the “float” option and guess what… IT FLOATS! That is awesome. None of the other Bluetooth speakers I have can do that. So the best part about this thing is being able to put it in the pool or even take it with you to the snowy mountains. You don’t have to worry so much about damaging the thing because it's basically built like a tank. Lifeproof has done an excellent job with keeping the actual Bluetooth speaker encased. You also have the option to charge your mobile device as well if you have the cables on you. The AQ10 is a speaker but it also has the ability to charge your mobile device when you need to. To be honest, the best thing I like about the AQ10 is the dry box. For all you folks out there that forget that you have cash, credit card(s), or your keys on you when your going swimming or something; you have the option to use the dry box by storing those personable items. Just make sure no one runs off with your speaker. My issues are mainly with the sound quality. Again as I mentioned above; the AQ10 may sound loud but it certainly doesn’t produce the best sound. A major letdown (IMO) is the float option. You’re probably going wait… didn’t you say above that it's a highlight? Yes it is a highlight of the AQ10 because you can literally chuck it into the pool and it’ll float. My main complaint is that when it's floating in the water, the speaker is facing into the water… What this means is that you don’t really get to hear whatever it is you’re trying to listen to. The sound comes out the front of the speaker so there isn’t much sound that comes out of the back; if any. So if you’re trying to listen to music at the beach (in the water) as an example; all the sharks, fishes, and sea creatures will hear it except everyone else above the water. In conclusion, I enjoy the aesthetics of the device itself. I like the “tankiness” of the unit. But I feel like the unit as a speaker itself falls short. Would I recommend this? I would say do some research and see if you can view one in person. If you enjoy the brand Lifeproof then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this device as well. But if you have something comparable like a waterproof Bluetooth speaker with better sound; I may skip on this. But this is all based on my personal opinion. Some individuals may enjoy it more than others; I would still give it some thought.

A Bluetooth Speaker With Above Average Durability

The Good Things About This LifeProof AQ10 The body of this LifeProof AQ10 Bluetooth speaker is made of thick durable plastic. The bottom has nice rubberized pads that slightly elevate the Bluetooth speaker. The water proof compartment on the bottom is kind of a nice addition, it perfectly fits credit cards and ID cards, but on the AQ10 which is the medium sized version of this Bluetooth Speaker, there is not enough space to fit even a small smartphone. The larger AQ11 would be necessary if hoping to use the waterproof compartment to store a smartphone. The buttons on top include previous track, next track, play/pause, volume up and volume down, this is much better than other Bluetooth speakers I have owned, which often requires double pressing the volume up or down buttons, in order to accomplish previous track or next track functions. It is really nice to be able to press the playback buttons to control the music, instead of having to hassle with turning on the smartphone to accomplish playing, pausing, or skipping the music. This Bluetooth speaker has two USB charging ports which are 5 volts at 500 mA, one is under the removable cover where 12 volt power adapter plugs into on the side, and the other one is in the waterproof compartment located on the bottom. This Bluetooth speaker has a really nice and uncommon feature, it has a sensor on top so that when the round button section on top is tapped momentarily, the buttons on top all light up for a second, and this is really handy if ever attempting to press the buttons in a dark environment. When the power button is pressed once it shows how much battery power is remaining: 1 LED = 25%, 2 LED’s = 50%, 3 LED’s = 75% and 4 LED’s = 100%. The manufacturer’s box was packaged inside a brown cardboard box so that the product packaging had bubble wrap or foam on all surrounding sides, this is an above average shipping setup. This Bluetooth speaker is great if used for music in the bathroom because of the fact that it is waterproof, the water vapors that build up in a bathroom during a shower will not cause any harm to this Bluetooth speaker. Other Details About This LifeProof AQ10 The speaker setup was difficult to identify because the grills on the front and back have fewer holes compared to the grills on other speakers, this is a good thing in that the grills are stronger because of having fewer holes, but it is difficult to see past the grills to clearly see the speaker measurements. There are two 1.25” speakers and a rectangular shaped passive radiator behind the front grill, then behind the back grill is a passive radiator of the same size and shape as the one behind the front grill. I had to place a bright light directly up to the grills, which lights up the inside area behind the grills enough to get a rough measurement of the speakers. On my Android smartphone I use a music playing app called PowerAmp and it has an equalizer which I have all setup and adjusted according to how I like my music to sound, and my musical preference is to have the bass tuned down quite a bit, I find this sounds good enough yet the reduced bass is less disruptive to neighbors, and because less bass makes the speaker physically move less, it requires less battery power to play music that has less bass. Anyway I am mentioning this to point out that my music setup sends a music signal to my Bluetooth speakers with low amounts of bass, this seemed to result in this LifeProof speaker sounding unusually low on bass when the music was played, which causes me to think this LifeProof speaker was most likely designed with a built in crossover which reduces the bass to the speaker by default, this is wise to reduce the likelihood that a speaker will ever get blown. In order for me to tune the LifeProof AQ10 speaker so that it had enough bass sound, I had to increase the bass frequency of the equalizer settings on my PowerAmp music playing app. If you are playing this Bluetooth speaker with an app that does not have an equalizer already having the bass frequency reduced, it will most likely play music with sufficient bass. I often use most of my Bluetooth speakers to connect to my Windows desktop computer for audio during movie playback, and I have found that some Bluetooth speakers pair better with my smartphones, than they do with the Bluetooth on my desktop PC. This LifeProof AQ10 has less than optimal pairing with my desktop pc, which has a fairly new version of Bluetooth built into the Wi-Fi card, I finally got it connected, but I could not get the built in microphone to record audio, yet when it is connected to my Android smartphone it is functional as a speakerphone during calls. This LifeProof AQ10 Bluetooth speaker is charged by an included 12 volt power adapter, and when the battery has run down completely, it can be plugged in and the music can be played while it is charging. The LifeProof website lists a 13 hours battery, which should probably say up to 13 hours, because the overall real life playback time of any Bluetooth speaker depends upon how loud the music is played. Louder music playback will result in a fewer number of music playback hours. I have several Bluetooth speakers of varying brands, and often times I connect the speakers to my smartphone, and when not listening to music I pause the music and leave the Bluetooth speaker connected, most of my Bluetooth speakers that I have I can keep them connected to my smartphone while the music is not playing, and they stays connected and the battery lasts for several days before the battery finally drains. Bluetooth is designed to be a really low powered wireless signal, and it normally drains such a low amount of power, that when a smartphone is connected but not actually playing the music, it uses next to no power, that is how efficient a Bluetooth connection normally is. For some reason, this LifeProof AQ10 drains more than the normal amount of battery power when it is connected but not playing music. I have tested my LifeProof AQ10 on two occasions by charging it fully and then connecting it to my smartphone and not playing any music at all, the battery goes from fully charged to fully drained in like approximately 20 hours with absolutely no music being played. Normally the battery power of a Bluetooth speaker gets drained mostly from the music being played, it is the movement of the speakers that uses most of the battery power, so I am not sure why this LifeProof AQ10 uses so much battery power when connected and not playing music. Anyways, if using this LifeProof AQ10, it is best to power it down when it is not in use. The small square plastic seal on the side that covers the power and USB connection, is a bit stiff and when it pulls out for charging, it sort of springs back and kind of hinders the power adapter when it is plugged in. I wrapped a rubber band around the plastic cover and it holds it out of the way when charging, a picture showing this is uploaded with my review. The lever that deactivates the buttons and prevents the buttons from accidentally being pressed, is not really that helpful, as the buttons are not really that easy to accidentally press. When I opened my AQ10 and tried to turn it on, I tried for like 5 minutes straight and it would not power up, and then I realized it would not power on because the lever that deactivates the buttons was in the locked mode, so it actually prevents the device from powering on also, the quick start guide makes no mention of this. There is no user’s manual provided, only a quick start users guide which has a website link that allows you to download the user’s manual. The buttons on this LifeProof AQ10 are a little soft when pressed, they kind of lack a more optimal satisfying click when the buttons are pressed, of which the power button is softest, but the buttons are ok, they could be better and they could be worse. Overall Impression Of This Bluetooth Speaker I am rating this item at 3.8 out of 5 stars. The LifeProof AQ10 has a few nice features that some other Bluetooth speakers don’t have, and it is durable and has pretty good sound.

My wife and I have taken to buying and renovating homes and for me, having some music is a necessity when doing this type of work. I have several jobsite radios including a Bosch and Dewalt Toughsystem radio. The sound is incredible from both, but the problem is they are both huge. Lugging them around the jobsite and getting them on and off my truck isn't the most or the easiest task. Insert the Lifeproof AQ10. For a speaker of this size, the sound is pretty amazing. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't compete with the overall sound of the previous mentioned radios that I own, but for its size, I cant complain. I can store this in my toolbox or underneath the back seat in my pickup truck, unlike my other units. For all of the positives having to do with its sound, size and ease of use, there are some things that I wish were made differently on this speaker. Its advertised as a waterproof speaker, but it does me no good if I cant store even an iPod Touch in the compartment to keep it waterproof. If you look at the pictures, I took the case off, which I don't like to do, just to see if it would fit inside of the compartment and when I did, it would not fully close. Big problem for me because whether I'm in the water or working at a house, I prefer to have my device protected inside of something. The compartment will only hold some cash and credit cards, but not keys or a key fob like most push to start vehicles use these days. If a larger compartment is what you need, I would suggest checking out the AQ11. I also wish that the usb port to charge the device was inside of the compartment. If I did have something that would fit inside of the compartment, I would rather have it charge there, as opposed to having to leave the compartment open and plug it in to the side. Pairing and setup were easy and I used the speaker at work in my office for about 9 straight hours and I still had battery life left. The speaker came about 3/4 full, but I just plugged it in to get a full charge before my first use. While the negatives that I pointed out above may not apply to everyone, the speaker is still worth the purchase. I would definitely recommend this. Pros: - Great sound for a speaker this size - Great battery life - Compact size, easy to store - Good instructions and easy to use Cons: - Small compartment, will probably only fit an iPod Nano or similar - USB port is on the outside of the compartment instead of inside

Good If You Need It To Float, Just OK If Not

I was really kind of interested in what the team at LifeProof could do with a bluetooth speaker, and I have to say, they did not meet my expectations. The AQ10 is a perfectly serviceable bluetooth speaker with some really nice features such as: - It floats! - It's waterproof (though playing around with it though did not leave me with a good impression that it would stay that way - more on this later) - If you hover your hand over the controls, they light up. - It has a secret compartment that supposedly is waterproof but it wasn't for me. - It can charge your other devices like your phone. - It looks kinda cool. Then it kneecaps the whole thing with these drawbacks: - The price. Really? I know that LifeProof charges a premium but this is ridiculous! - There aren't any gaskets on this and the compartment on the bottom just has a simple spring loaded toggle. Now you aren't fitting anything like a cell phone in this but whatever you do put in it is probably going to get wet. There was moisture in mine. Also when I was holding the speaker, there was quite a bit of 'give' in some areas that did not make me confident that water would stay out of other important bits. Who knows, without taking it apart I can't see if there are other seals inside. - The sound, not bad but not great either. Bass is sorely lacking. I tried to record a video of it playing Uptown Funk (which I like to use as a test because is has some nice bass and treble to judge by), but I learned that the iPhone won't play music over bluetooth and record videos at the same time. It sounds like the bass on your stereo has been turned way down. That being said, it does get plenty loud and this is not intended to be a hi-fidelity system. It is for having out on the boat or beach. - Has it's own wall-wart plug and not a small one either. There is no excuse for this not using USB! - Finally, the price! Seriously, if this were $100 I could see it and it would be a good value even with some of the drawbacks but to tell you the truth, I have several other speakers that sound better for $25 bucks and I would rather they get ruined by water and have to buy another one rather than pay $200 for this one.

    Buoyancy Audio Problems Solved

The setup for LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is extremely easy for people who’ve connected bluetooth devices before. If you haven’t, then there is a simple-to-follow instruction booklet that will get you up and running in less than 2 minutes. As soon as you turn on the speaker, it will start searching for a device to pair. I paired it with my iPhone 7 and it took a little under 1 minute. The key feature of this bluetooth speaker is that it is waterproof, not just splash proof. Waterproof means it can be submerged underwater and still remain functional. I am glad to report that this key feature works as expected. I tested it daily, using it in the shower/bath room and I even submerged it. The speaker is still functional, just like out of the box. Another small but useful feature is the ability to lock the speaker’s buttons. With a small switch near the “on” button, you can lock all other buttons so that you don’t accidentally change songs or pause the music unwillingly. Also, 4 lights will show you the charge level of your speaker. Similar lights lite up all other buttons, making it great for use in the dark. The performance of this bluetooth speaker is great. It definitely competes with similarly priced items with the added bonus of it being waterproof. I own at least 8 bluetooth speakers of varying price ranges. As mentioned above, I tested this in the shower/bath room. I placed it in multiple locations to test it’s loudness. I first started on the wall furthest from my bathtub, which was the best test I could think of for daily use. The previous bluetooth speaker I was using in the shower/bathroom is not waterproof and regularly priced at 49.99. Though it’s loud, the audio would drown out (no pun intended) by the running water of the tub. The priciest bluetooth speaker I own is regularly priced at 449.99. That one, I don’t dare put it near the shower/bathroom because of it’s price, but I can hear it over the water while it is in another room. This Lifeproof Aquaphonics doesn’t get drowned out being a good 15 feet away from my running tub. The next test was to let it play with me inside the shower on a high rack. Again, it worked fine, and of course, the audio was louder because it was closer to me. Lastly, I filled the tub with enough water to submerge it. I did so reluctantly, as I know that tech and water usually don’t mix well. However, like a band-aid, I just dropped it in and to my surprise, it floated. It started to spin around in the water, fully functioning. However, the sound becomes inaudible while underwater and it isn’t stable enough to face the direction you want to face it. I forced it to submerge underwater but it kept floating back up. This soundbar meets and exceeds my expectations. With it’s decent loudness and survivability of various weather conditions, it’s hard not to recommend this. As an added bonus, if you are planning on using it in the shower, you can accept phone calls and speak through the speaker using the integrated microphone. I had a friend call me to test it out and he didn’t know I was talking to him via the bluetooth speaker until I brought it up to him. On his end, he could hear me clear as day and on my end, I had no trouble understanding what he was saying. We actually spoke for about 2 hours, and that’s because I hadn’t charged the device after taking it out of the box. That speaks volumes (again, no pun intended) about the battery. The price for the speaker in terms of value is more than reasonable if you consider that other similarly priced speakers don’t offer the feature of it being submergible for 1 meter up to 30 minutes. Other lesser known features are the dry box, which is a small space storage area perfect for credit cards and the regular sized iPhones (5.5 inches) and the fact that it can charge your cellphone with your own USB cable in within that drybox area, making it an ideal beach bluetooth speaker. I highly recommend this product for people who plan on using it daily in a shower/bathroom, as it won’t be affected by condensation. Also, people who own a swimming pool may want to purchase one, seeing as how accidentally dropping it in the pool won’t affect it much. Lastly, if you plan on traveling to the beach this would be a wise investment.

I love that this unit has an waterproof hatch under the speaker, with this you can put keys small devices like an mp3 player, credit cards or ID's as advertised. I don't think I'll be using this compartment for my Credit Cards or ID's but for a small MP3 that would be nice. In this compartment you can connect via USB which will charge the unit and use the built in battery to keep it charged. This built-in battery can charge any phone device or tablet via the USB. The best thing about this product is the ability to charge your phone, tablet or any small devices. The good news is it comes out of the box with a 92% charge so if you're in a situation where you need power and heading to a party/ beach this is your device for tunes and power. Buttons glow when pressed, good when you're under water. Right side has lock switch so you don't accidentally press a button also has power indicator shows 4 dots for full power flashes one dot before power done. Left side part for aux and usb, this port is covered for water seal. Buttons on top Fast forward/skip, Play/pause, Reverse/skip, Bluetooth. Bottom of unit two feet grips, small compartment for storage of small items aux and usb to connect water tight.

Pool, Hot Tub, Beach, Boat, TV + AQ10 = FUN

Just how many ways can I use the LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker? Over this past week I discovered that this little gem provides waterproof, musical FUN and turns my POOL into a Pool Party; makes using the Hot Tub even more relaxing; at the BEACH my Grand Kids love that they can play their favorite music near the sand and salt water'; surprisingly, it makes a very good SOUND BAR for my bedroom TV, and over this coming Memorial Day Weekend am taking it along on a family outing aboard my Brother-In-Law's BOAT. I even used the AQ10 while washing my car and while gardening and watering my flowers. Since the AQ10 is completely mobile, waterproof, and lasts for over 12 hours before charging it can be used anywhere around and near the water for almost any kind of FUN activity. Well, almost all, but fishing. My Brother-In-Law does not want me to bring it along it when we go on our next outing. He claims the fish won't appreciate it. Aside from that it can 'connect' to eight different Bluetooth devices I received this complimentary LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker too late in the day to take it out to my pool area and see what it could do. So, that evening I went over the details of the basic operation of the AQ10 and downloaded the 'Owners' Guide' from the 'Inside LifeProof' link at their product website. It is highly detailed with pics and a User's Manual with lots of functional information. The AQ10 is extremely simple to operate and understand. I 'paired' my I-Phone to the AQ10 in under sixty seconds. After noticing it had two 3.5 mm inputs (one in the drybox and on the right-hand side) I realized that the design of this unit will allow external devices to stream sound or music through the 3.5 mm connections. Since most TV's have marginal to mediocre sound quality, I connected the AQ10 to my bedroom, smart TV with a 3.5 mm cable to see what kind of 'sound bar' it would make. NOTE: The 'Source' button on top of the unit must be set to enable the 3.5 mm input, and, the 'Lock' switch must be unlocked. I was impressed with the sound quality and clarity. Using my TV's 'Equalizer' I enhanced the delivery of the sound from the TV to the AQ10. It is probably set at the 'mid-range' to operate on its own, however, it can be tweaked using the TV's 'Equalizer'. Just be careful to avoid high treble and low bass as it distorts the sound quality appreciably, and possibly could damage the speakers. However, connecting to a TV gives even more versatility to the AQ10 when its not being using around the water. The most FUN is using the AQ10 in my pool because I don't have to worry if it gets wet or falls into the pool since it is waterproof, provided the two doors are latched properly. The topside controls are very straightforward, and light up when operated. The volume can easily be raised or lowered from the + or – side of the 'Play' control. The topside controls also consist of a 'Pair' for Bluetooth connection, 'Back' and 'Forward' for previous or next track, and 'Source' for switching from Bluetooth or 3.5 mm inputs. On its side it has a waterproof door containing a USB charge-out port, 3.5 mm audio input jack, and a 'Power-In' for recharging with included 120v, proprietary, wall charger. The watertight 'Drybox' provides space for a small smart phone, similar to I-Phone 5 or SE, or, space for cash, credit card, etc. The space also provides another 3.5 mm audio jack and USB, charge-out port. On the other side of the AQ10 is a surface mount 'On/Off' switch along with the 'Lock' and 'Unlock' switch. Just above the 'Lock' switch are the four LED, charging indicator lights. Each one that is lit, represents 25% of charge left. NOTE: the 'Lock' switch must be 'Unlocked' for Bluetooth pairing and, or, switching from 3.5 mm to Bluetooth, or visa versa. Some of the other important features I must mention is dropping it the water is not an issue. The AQ10 is waterproof to a depth of one meter, or approximately 39”, submersed for up to 30 minutes. So, I dropped it into my pool and observed that the audio stops playing, but it floats well. Once out of the water the music resumes. The AQ10 can be 'Dropped' from a height of 1.2 meters or approximately 47”. Another neat feature is that you can receive phone calls through the AQ10. It must be 'Unlocked', and you have to press the 'Play' button to receive and end the phone call. Fortunately it is 'Dirt' proof, and, or sand-proof, since we used it at the beach. I live in Northern Florida and this is an extremely important feature. . We just washed it off with clear fresh water to clean the beach sand off and whatever salt water residue it may have had. How easy is that to maintain? WooHoo! It is also 'Snowproof', but I don't think we will ever have to worry about that. I like how ruggedly built the AQ10 is and the sound quality is crisp and clear. When I was using it at my pool I found that facing the speakers towards a corner wall, within two feet or so, greatly enhanced the bass because of the 'bounce-back' and sound resonance. There is no treble or bass output controls. However the sound output is at 94 db, which is loud enough for most outdoor activities. I also like that it can recharge my cell phone, especially away from any 120v source, by using either of the two furnished USB ports. Recharging took approximately one hour and fifteen minutes from one LED indicator light. I highly recommend the AQ10 for any active folks, who are outdoors a lot. It can be used literally, anywhere, and especially, in or around water. The QA10 makes a great gift for Graduates, teens, pool owners, boat owners, and, folks who want a ruggedly built, waterproof, drop proof, quality sound, Bluetooth speaker.

Great Design - Only OK speaker

Very well built, solid construction and very polished look and feel. Speaker is extremely sturdy and can resist falls and bumps easily. Water resistance is also very nice. And that is going to be the reason you want to buy this speaker. The audio quality is only OK. Sound is very flat with an upper midrange tone. Even when using devices that can EQ the audio source to decrease mids and increase bass, this speaker did not perform well. Bass is almost non-existent. It does get very loud, so it’s great for outdoors when you need to cover lots of area, and may not be that concerned with audio quality. Very easy controls and ports. And the hideaway stored compartment is awesome, especially if you are outdoors or on a boat or at the beach, keeps your personal items like credit cards or cash safe and secure and dry. So if you need a speaker that’s rough and sturdy and can handle anything the outdoors throws at it, this is the speaker for you. If you are looking for a speaker that sounds amazing, you need to keep looking.

With summer fast approaching, it’s natural to start thinking of items that are needed throughout the season. Most people consider things like beach towels and swimsuits, while I look at what electronics I need. I can rarely be found without some method of listening to my music and during the summer, you really need something that is going to be durable and withstand even the harshest environments. I have worked with waterproof speakers before, but never one like the Lifeproof Aquaphonics AQ10 speaker. The AQ10 speaker is not only waterproof, but it’s also submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It’s sealed from dirt, dust, snow, and rain plus it pairs with up to 8 devices. The speaker also acts as a speakerphone with the aid of its built-in microphone. Because it’s built and designed by Lifeproof, the AQ10 is tough. It can withstand falls up to 1.2 meters and it’s buoyant. This is perhaps one of my favorite features of the AQ10. It’s nice to know that you can keep the speaker with you no matter where you go. There are two more features that I want to touch on – the battery life and the dry box. These two options are stand-out features in my opinion. The battery provides 13 hours of non-stop music entertainment. While I haven’t really tested this out yet, I’ve been very impressed with the continuous power I have noted. In addition to the exceptional battery life, the AQ10 gives you two standard USB ports to be able to charge your phone or tablet from. One is on the side where you plug the speaker into power and the other is located in the dry box. These ports are 5V/0.5A so they aren’t fast-charging at all, but they will provide you power in an emergency. The dry box is a special feature that I’ve not seen on a Bluetooth speaker before. It’s located on the bottom of the speaker and is completely sealed off from all the elements. You unlock it with a switch and are presented with a silicone lined box where you can store cards, keys or other small items. As I mentioned above, there is also a USB port enclosed inside along with an Aux port. One thing that’s important to note – the dry box on the AQ10 measures 2” x 4.75” and it’s only one-quarter inch deep. This isn’t large enough for my phone, but if you have a smaller form phone, you could easily store it inside the box. The larger AQ11 speaker also has a dry box, but I’m not sure how much larger it is. So how does it sound? It’s honestly got a really nice, rich, deep sound. As far as bass goes, it’s not like a subwoofer is hooked up to it, but it doesn’t sound hollow either. The volume control is directly connected to the phone (it’s not independent of the phone’s volume), but it amplifies it nicely. For example, let’s say I have the phone set to volume level 3. I would say that same volume level on the speaker is about 30% louder than the phone itself. I love that the speaker has advanced controls on it and that they aren’t difficult to press. Some waterproof speakers have ‘sticky’ controls that I’m not a fan of. All in all, this is a really nice option for an outdoor speaker. It’s large enough to produce a powerful sound, but it’s easy enough to handle that you can take it with you anywhere.

I was very impressed with this little speakers ability to fill up a good sized room. My kitchen area is about 450 square feet and this thing rocks it. I have it paired with my galaxy s7 edge, but sadly it will not provide a charge as advertised via either of the USB type A slots. I also tried my other phones with no luck. I also was able to pair it up with my echo dot and use it as an external speaker and it works well. However, if you have Google home, you cannot connect....yet. I am sure it will just be a matter of time until Google turns on that feature. Overall I am very happy with this speaker. Battery life has been great, I estimate about 10 hours of jamming to my favorite music. I haven't had the nerve to test out the waterproofing yet but it seems very well built and that should not be a problem. The handy little storage area is neat, but don't expect to fit more than a few credit cards in there.

After a week or so with the AQ10, I would recommend this to anyone wanting the features but not really too consider about the loudness of the speaker itself. I have been using the Beats Pill+ for quite sometime so I'm used to the loudness of it, but there isn't any outdoorsy features to it. With the AQ10, the Lifeproof features into a speaker is great for when I'm out and about. Like I mention before, the Beats is hands down much louder than the AQ10, but the AQ10 might be loud enough for most people. (Reason why I'm big on the volume is because I work in loud environments) It's durable, great texture feel and easily hookable. Now for the ONE disappointment... It has a proprietary charger! Great battery life has it does last me 7-8 hours and can charge out, but it's still a proprietary charger needed to charge the unit itself... Hope this helps! Thanks.
