There is not much to a range extender

This review is based upon several aspects, comparing this product to other range extenders, and taking into consideration the limitations of the range extender technology. If asked would I suggest this range extender to other people, it is necessary to consider how much is the price, and is it a good value compared to other technologies available at that price point. That being said, I would not suggest this range extender at its current price point. Upon writing this review, this range extender is listed on the Linksys website for $149.99 These days you can buy a really nice wireless router for around $200, that being said, a really nice router has way more technology inside it, compared to a much simpler range extender. If I was the manufacturer of this range extender, I would disregard the market prices of other range extenders, and I would place a reasonable beginning price of $79 on this range extender, and this is only because it is a MIMO capable range extender, if it was not a MIMO capable range extender, I would have a starting price of even less. There is simply not much to a range extender, the selling price of a range extender should reflect this. A range extender if used at all, should be used with a decent quality wireless router to start with, if you do not have a quality router sending a signal of sufficient strength to begin with, then spending your money to upgrade to a better wireless router, might achieve better results, compared to trying to extend the range of a weak or average wireless router signal. All this being said, I do have a really nice router, and pairing it with this range extender, did increase my download speeds at a tested extended distance, but it was not enough to the point of me being really impressed with the overall results, of which if I had tested a lesser quality range extender, I would have been even less impressed. There is simply a limitation of the range extending concept, this limitation is that when a router sends a signal to a range extender, the range extender then has to transfer that signal, and the transferring of the wireless signal results in a loss of data transfer speeds.

Nice a little pricey. Sets up well with a Linksys router. Hard to plug in as it takes a lot of space on the surge protector.

I bought this to use with an existing Linksys MAX-Stream Router to provide better coverage in my house. I have it set up as an access point. Works well and after 1 month have had no issues with stability or dropped connections, although some older devices will not automatically switch back and forth between the new AC1900 and my Linksys wireless router when I move around the house even though the signal strength varies when closer to one Linksys device or the other and they are share the same SSID. I think its an issue with the older mobile devices and not the Linksysy equipment but I did not expected this glitch. Deducting a star for the high price compared to alternatives.

Easy to connect. Bought this product over a month ago. I was shoppping around for an economical range extender. After trying this one out it was exactly what I needed although it wasn't the cheapest. I'm glad being my first choice it worked out and I recommend this one because when this product becomes a necessity it's easy to get lost in technicality, so having this as my starter choice was very greatful.

I needed a Wifi booster to get a good signal fro my house to and outside office. This did the trick. It was a little troublesome to find a good location, but finally foung just the right spot. I think it's a little pricy.

I bought two other WiFi extenders at the same time as this. This is really great because I don’t need to physically see and configure the main WiFi router. I just needed a laptop and wirelessly connect to the product. The design is also simple no antennas(not like the other one of the Other two extenders I bought) which in my opinion, I’m scared of moving because it can break. Quite expensive but you buy what it’s worth.

    Nice Compact Range Extender

I've had the Linksys RE7000 for about 3 weeks now, and so far, so good. I have it paired up to a new EA9500 router and connection couldn't have been simpler. No need to use the included CD with the packaging. Simply plug in the range extender into the power outlet and wait for the blinking green light to finish it's initial configuration process. When ready, press the WPS button on the side. The RE7000 will start to blink orange. Then, press the WPS button on the side of your router and once the orange light stops blinking, and turns solid green, the two will be connected to each other and you are good to go. You can then move the RE7000 to another part of the room/house/office and then go into your wifi settings on the device you wish to pair and select the same name as the router you ordinarily use, but this time look for the one with EXT on the end. This will be your extended range network. Once connected you should see notable improvements in your wifi signal strength and speed of upload/download. With a suggested range of 10,000 ft, I expected this product to work well in my 2,400 sq ft home. I've tried it in a few different outlets without a problem. Connection remains strong throughout my house. The only downside I could see might be the price point for some people, as it is definitely not the cheapest on the market, however, you are getting MU-MIMO connection, supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz extended networks, and a claimed 10,000 sq ft of coverage, so it is a powerful little beast! Overall I would recommend this product, especially if you have a MU-MIMO router (basically allows all connected devices to have an equal slice of the wifi signal) and the RE7000 now allows that great connectivity to extend further around your property, and even outside in your front or back yard!

Great Way to Add Wi-Fi Coverage to Dead Zones

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Background information: Modem and Router are located on ground floor. Extender has been installed in the basement that is completely underground. Pros: 1. Faster speeds - Without the extender, the speeds in the basement were 2.2 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbsp up. After installing the extender in the basement, the speeds are now 13.8 Mbps down and 0.9 Mbps up. This is consistent with the speeds I get in other areas of the house that is within the router's coverage. 2. Increased coverage - With my old Belkin router, I did not have good coverage in the basement of my house that is completely underground. This wi-fi extender increased the range and speed in the basement. I get full coverage and consistent speeds in all areas of the basement. 3. Easy set-up - Setting up the Linksys extender from unboxing to connected status took less than 15 minutes. The instructions are straightforward. The extender settings and management site has an easy to use interface. You can manage all of the security settings on this site. This extender works with all routers. 4. Features - The Linksys extender has an ethernet port. The extender also has simultaneous dual-band support (one 2.4 GHz band and one 5 GHz band). The extender can be used in two ways, as a regular wi-fi coverage extender or as a wired access point. 5. Size - The Linksys extender is compact and lightweight, making it easy to move around if needed. Cons: 1. Price - This is a premium extender and is priced accordingly. Depending on your needs, a cheaper/less powerful extender may be sufficient for your needs. You should consider this extender if you: -Have a large home/office area that has inconsistent speeds/coverage or dead zones. -Have additional needs/demands that only a premium range extender can handle.

      Hi,

The Linksys RE7000 can extend the range of your existing WiFi up to 2,500 sq. ft. and works with any wireless router. Make sure that the firmware is up to date, and you may try to relocate the extender closer to the router for isolation. For further assistance, you can reach out to us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with the link to this review for our reference.
