Great coverage hindered by a subpar mobile app
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the past few years I've solely used Apple's AirPort Extreme Base Stations in all my homes and have numerous current generation models bridged and running well. As Apple has officially announced leaving the networking market, I began researching mesh networks. I decided on the Linksys Velop system as it's the only alternative Apple currently sells and endorses, thus it should be a perfect fit for my homes as my computers are Mac's (with a few Windows systems) and my mobile devices are iOS based (iPad Pro 10.5's and iPhone X's). I also have numerous HomeKit smart home devices from smart locks, lighting systems, garage and gate openers, thermostats, etc. and servers in my Berlin and New York homes. If Apple supports it, then it should be a perfect fit, especially as I use some of my servers for Time Machine. I haven't dealt with non-Apple routers in my home in years, so I was a bit trepidatious as my previous experiences with Linksys were far from great. The nodes are small and contrary to what some others have stated they aren't eyesores. In fact, I found the black nodes to be the perfect size, shape, and they blend in with their surroundings. I tested this unit in my 5,000 sq ft home which has two current generation Airport Extreme Base Stations (one in bridge mode). Either node can be the main node connected to your modem. The mobile app walks your through the setup process which was very easy and quick. After the first node is setup, simply follow the instructions to place the second node (and third if you have more). After the nodes were placed, the system ran tests to ensure each node was in the best location, then scanned your network for devices and analyzed your setup proper optimization. The two nodes cover 5,000 sq ft well, which saved me from having to purchase the three node system (and you can always add more nodes). My only issue with the nodes are the limited ethernet ports (two for each). As this is a mesh system, wireless connectivity is its main priority although you can connect the nodes with ethernet cables should you have them already placed. Simply setup the nodes wirelessly first, then connect each node to your wired setup. Unlike traditional routers which broadcast 2.4GHz and 5GHz as separate networks, these systems broadcast both under one wireless network name and use the 5GHz band by default, automatically switching to the lower ranger 2.4GHz depending on device and/or range. Each node's processors constantly evaluate the signal strength of each device in order to ensure the everything on the network has the best connection. Essentially, it's akin to an easy to setup bridged network system with intuitive and seamless device prioritization. The "Channel Finder" feature in the app evaluates connected devices and node placement should you wish to check that the system is properly functioning, however this is done automatically in the background. The speeds were slightly than my current AirPort Extreme Base Stations even though each utilize the same protocols. Trio-Band mesh networks are superior in this area as they are constantly adjusting to your needs. I tested this on my 300 Mbps down and 30 Mbps up system and found wireless speeds to be faster and more consistent, especially in area's that seemed to struggle maintaining a connection. The downside is the mobile application necessary for setting up and monitoring the system (although the desktop browser portal is a much better method as it allows for more fine tuning such as port forwarding, device prioritization, security options, etc). The iOS app UI seemed extremely basic and disappointing. In fact, it turned me off so much that I'm on the fence whether or not I should keep this system or sell it online. It's very limiting especially with naming and categorizing devices (the icons are not only hideous and generic at best, they are limiting as only a handful of devices are listed). Port forwarding allocation is archaic and my Synology servers did not recognize the systems UPnP or NAT and many manufacturers have been slow in developing proper mesh system support. Port Forwarding and DHCP Reservations are the only way to ensure LAN and external connectivity, which I normally do for all my systems. Unfortunately I experienced a handful connection issues over the 2-3 weeks in which I used the system. Sometimes a node would drop its connection, requiring the system to search for the node and ensure it was properly functioning. I had to restart it a few times as well, which I rarely had to do with my Apple wireless routers. At the end, a windstorm came in and the power flickered yet was never lost and my equipment is attached to server grade UPS's, etc. Yet the entire system lost all the settings. As there is no way to save your configuration to your computer as you can with other systems such as Apple's Airport Utility, this meant I had to setup the entire network from scratch. At this point, I packed up the system and reconnected my AirPort Extreme Base Stations and in a few minutes was back online. Pros: Speeds, coverage, seamless adaption Cons: Terrible mobile app necessary for setup and usage, lack of ethernet ports (although a simply switch remedies this issue), no dedicated desktop apps, no way to backup your system configuration should it fail

FABULOUS!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Where I was having all sorts of connection and bottleneck and restart woes with my previous router and extenders, EVEN though that router promised to cover the entire house in it's advertising, as soon as I set up this system, all the problems have vanished. We get super strong coverage throughout the entire house and even venturing outside to about 75' from the house in any direction on the property. No buffer issues anymore on the roku box, no sudden disconnections, no having to go to the den to reboot the router. AND, aesthetically these are rather attractive and fit into our decor perfectly. Setup was a breeze...the things practically set themselves up. We are extremely happy with this investment and would definitely suggest this product to anyone looking for something trustworthy.

Excellent mesh network and great support
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid connection and very fast speed. If a node drops my connection usually stays up, but I think a better placement of the node would help with minimal disconnects. The node usually only drops with a power cut or other interference. It rarely happens, but if it does it is easy to wake the node/s up. Also to save others time, disable the WiFi on your router if you have AirPrint or other device connection issues, and use the mesh network to broadcast the WIFI. This is better than bridging as you can keep the smart features on the mesh network operating. I believe the mesh network does a better job of prioritizing traffic, etc, than my new WIFI 6 router. Awesome network very happy with the speed and solid connection!!!

Plenty of Bandwidth and Coverage
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I resorted to the Velop mesh WiFi 2 router system after my Apple Airport starting going out. I tried multiple higher end routers but they all failed to connect to my most distant bedroom Tv. The Velop mesh router is only router that has been able to provided consistent connectivity without disruptions. This is due essentially having two routers available throughout the house. Your devices connect to either one depending on the range and signal strength. The downside is I still have interruptions for steaming to the furtherest TV unless I use an ethernet cable attached to the second router (hence the reason for only 4 stars). You also need to download the app to a phone or device for installation. I have only had it for less than a month but so far the extra cost is paying off.

True HOT Garbage
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was once a great and solid product! Linksys sold out to Belkin recently and since then, the firmware updates have dismantled this once great product to epic garbage. I have 5 nodes - have downgraded my firmware - messed with the settings and placement of each node for HOURS...I get dropouts at least 4 times a day... I finally figured it out though! I unplugged them all, sold them on nextdoor and bought the google nest system... problem solved! Do NOT buy these linksys below nodes - Do NOT do it. Use yarn and tin cans and you will get more stable connectivity with zero dropout!

Neat Mesh wi-fi system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me get the bad out of the way first, my experience with using the app and getting all three nodes connected wasn't the greatest experience. The first two nodes connected very easily and when I got to the third node, I had nothing but problems. The node turned blue saying it was connected, but the app would not register it. After restarting the whole process again with the third node, and restarting the app a few times, I finally gave up. I did test connection with the ethernet port on the third node and it was working fine, but the app will not recognize it, so that is where it currently sits. This node does drop connection once in a while as well, so perhaps I have a bad node. I will call Linksys about it and hopefully they will have an answer for me. The good, the looks of these things are great. I love the retro-modern look of them and the recessed ethernet, power, and buttons are a nice addition and the cable managing system is a welcome feature. Connection speeds is 100% as described on all of my nodes (even the one that drops connection. I have basically used the system to have ethernet wiring in my house without the added expense. The two nodes have been rock solid with connection, just the third one has dropped once in a while. I currently have my Tivo Bolt and a Tivo Mini connected using these and they work perfectly as if connected via ethernet. (Wirless connection between the two is not supported by Tivo, so this is a way to bypass that.) Overall I would recommend this to family and friends, but tell them to watch out for a bad node. Hopefully I am just an anomaly in the Velop world.

This mesh network is legit!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve tried a few range extenders and they just fall short. Plus, you have to manually connect to them. The Velop system is fantastic. I have a 3 level, 5000 sq ft home with SEVERAL connected devices (4 smart TVs, multiple iPads, echos, Argos, fire sticks, phones etc and I’ve had ZERO connection issues. Pretty life changing. Setup was super easy. I can’t recommend this system enough.

Almost Awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So the promise and expectations for me were pretty high. Been struggling with my internet and WIFI with Cox for years - I pay for 350 mbps speeds and was getting as low as 10 some days. Initial setup of the Velop was pretty easy and I love the minimalist look. After using it for months now though it does weird things like one node will randomly disconnect, and i am CONSTANTLY running their "channel finder" tool from inside the app. Today for instance my iPhone was sooo slow - I checked the speed and was getting 20 Mbps and I noticed that my phone was still connected to the node upstairs in my bedroom - why it won't automatically move to the main node in living room is lame. Their support people are pretty helpful and have trouble-shooted with me a few times. If I didn't pay so much for it I might consider ditching it and trying Cox's new Panoramic Wifi, at least then there would be just one place for me to direct my frustrations. :)

Great coverage, speed, and support!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using this Velop system for a little over a year and have been very happy with the coverage and speed it consistently provides. On initial setup, I had a problem with one of the nodes continually dropping connection to the other nodes, but Linksys technical support was able to walk me through some troubleshooting steps that resolved the issue. The system has been working fine since! The Linksys app and web interface also offer good configuration options, both for simple and advanced functionality.

Great Mesh Wi-Fi System
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was having problems with my extender keeping contact with my router. My router went out and I decided to try the Mesh Wi-Fi system. This has been great and I have not had any problems with Wi-Fi connections throughout my house. We have cameras that connect and they stay connected. I would definitely recommend this Mesh Wi-Fi system. If you have a larger house that is more than 2600 sq ft, I would recommend the 3 pack. I could have used the 3 pack but this is working fine.

Seamless Node Switching
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great whole home mesh network system! I would have given it 5 stars, but two of my three nodes periodically lose connection to the main node. My home is only a 2600 sq ft ranch style home so it surprises me that they lose connection. Otherwise, everything else works great!

Velop Almost Perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Velop 3 module WiFi system to replace an Orbi system that I was having problems stsying connected to my router. Setup was extremely easy and after 3 weeks it is still performing great. I am using this in a 2 story home with 3500 as feet to cover. The main unit is upstairs and the 2 nodes are downstairs and coverage is great. I am only giving 4 stars as the price is quite high and the nodes sometimes (rare) give week connection signals as indicated by a yellow light. Overall a great product and I would recommend as a whole home WiFi solution.

Easy setup, excellent coverage, disconnects someti
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Certainly the easiest network component I ever set up. I loaded the app onto a phone, followed the step-by-step directions exactly as written, and everything came up as expected. Plenty of capacity and speed for the few devices I have attached to it. There have been times when I expected a previously-connected device to be connected and it was not. Reconnecting was fast and simple. Having to do it is a minor frustration, especially because no reason for the disconnect was provided.

A good solution for multilevel houses
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have waited for this technology to get better. This solves my problem with a multilevel house, but posed other issues in the process. I know you cant please everyone but Im not trying to reinvent the internet or anything. I like to wire as much as possible. I was told you can add a switch. So total investment (wifi/router went down) 2 fiveport switches$, one cable modem$$,one link sys 2 unit mesh system$$$. My goal was to have streaming devices wired to free up wifi for cameras and such. You cant put a switch on the first mesh unit because theres only one in and one out. So if you have wired your house in a spider configuration it aint going to work. You have to wired toyour send unit and plug your switch there. To connect devices. It doesnt see the other device otherwise. Theres only two connections per devices. It works well but not crazy good. It was hard to set the second one up even though it was right next to the other. It kept say move closer. It has a priority setting which only slows down everthing else. There are not a lot of controls you normally see on a wifi, but seeing devices on your network is a better than any third party apps ive used. I dont really like the fact that the interface is web based. It will sometimes disconnect while navigating through it which is stupid if you think about it. While on a web based window you get a message saying no connection to the very device thats enableing you to see the message. Buuuutt it hasnt failed me yet and ive had it going for months now. The reason for the 4 stars and harsh review is that all these issues can be solved with updates and are just annoyances. Happy otherwise.

Best speeds ever
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We built a 6000 sq ft house and I hired an AV guy (first mistake) to do my wifi. He swore by a Luxul router with Luxul wireless commander and 6 hard wired access points (main floor, basement, upper level, garage, pool deck, and pool house). Performance was awful. Lucky to pull 10 mbps even though Spectrum provides over 50. System would constantly drop devices and not hand off successfully from one AP to the next. He'd come out, reset the system, and a speed check would be good right then and there with significant drop off. He blamed it on Spectrum of course. I finally got fed up and bought this system just to see what it would do, fully expecting it to suck and to return it (how could mesh beat wired access points??). Well, I only have 4 nodes and this is the best internet we've ever had. Speeds up to 60 mbps right next to a node, with my worse speed by 10 mbps out in the garage. No dropped devices and no connection issues. I had a little problem connecting the first time (tip, turn off but don't power cycle the modem and quickly turn off and then turn on your main ethernet-connected node to force a DHCP connection) but customer service was outstanding and PATIENT. I've since bought four more nodes "just in case". I can't tell you if Velop is better than other mesh networks, but I love the app UI and the simplicity. It's made my home life better and I just couldn't be happier.

Good product
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently switched to FIOS and this router does not put out the speeds that FIOS provides with there Gigabit connection, however the speeds are not slow either. I can get over 800mb connection with these. Even with this mesh network system the nodes at least in my house just seem to not have a wide enough range between them and I don’t have a large house. It’s possible that the materials that were used to build this house are just too dense for the signal to get through. I constantly have my upstairs node dropping off and both my nodes are connecting to the main node instead of daisy chaining like they should maybe it’s due to them being on different levels of the house, I don’t know. It still surfaces though and I run it side by side with my FIOS router. If you have FIOS and have the The Home router designed for gigabit speeds. Purchase their mesh router extender. The Home Router is a much better and faster connection over this.

Very Usable WiFi 5 System
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this WiFi router system to replace an older router that was starting to fail. Using the recommendation of the Best Buy salesperson I selected this Tri-Band WiFi 5 system. Since I am not a gamer or have a houseful of kids the 5 seemed appropriate over the more expensive 6. The Linksys App made it super easy to setup and place the two units. The app does provide a lot of capabilities but making use of them is out of my technology expertise level. I do have a couple of tech pieces (Nest Smoke Detectors) that will not connect. Something to do with the older dual band vs the new tri-band connectivity. Overall they work well and we don’t have any issues with streaming, multiple users, or online meetings. Would recommend knowing about your older devices as a part of the purchase process.

Good when they work
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am using this system in a two-story 1600 sq ft townhome which has some fringe areas when using one traditional router. After having owned this for over a year and using it daily, I will start with the good. I currently use the system with just two nodes (one upstairs and one down) and I have them both connected to each other via ethernet. The Linksys app is very robust and allows for a lot of customization of the system on the fly. You can easily change various settings and reset all or individual nodes straight from the app. The coverage with just two nodes is more than sufficient for my home and I even receive a decent signal when walking away from my home outside. Aesthetically, these are very nice. Now the bad. I do a lot of streaming with a smart tv I have connected to my second node downstairs and experience a lot of lag when watching videos on YouTube. I have also had several devices that show connected to the node but randomly lose their internet access. Typically, this requires me to reset at least one node or the whole system in order to get the connection back. I also do a lot of streaming on a smart tv and will experience lag a lot of times which I've been able to isolate to the mesh system and not my internet modem. This occurs on a frequent basis and for practically an entire year this has required me to reset the nodes every couple of days if not every single day. This appears to be a common problem with these as I have read complaints from other user online experiencing the same issue. With exception to the frequent resets, when these work properly they work very well and the coverage is amazing; however, due to the intermittent connections I would not recommend this item.
