Get it for convenience but doesn't do anything new
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This isn't really a different kind of coffee maker—it operates the same as any other run-of-the-mill brewer that uses hot water running through a pile of coffee grounds and filter. In fact, in those respects, it's actually pretty low-tech and very single-minded--there are no fancy timers, no brew size or brew strength adjustment controls, no built-in water filters or jets that squirt out other foamy ingredients—there’s not even a simple LED to indicate that brewing is complete. What THIS unit does differently is really more about convenience and idiot-proof iced coffee preparation. Specifically, you are provided the tools you need to pre-measure and optimally apportion the amount of coffee grounds, water, and ice necessary to brew a sizeable, 22-oz “tumblerized” iced coffee drink. So could you use any other run-of-the-mill brewer to achieve the same ends--yeah, I suppose so, but it wouldn't be quite as slick as you have it here; and you'd need to adjust brew strength, brew time, cup size, amount of grounds, etc. by trial-and-error until you finally got what you were after…and, there’s no guarantee that the coffee maker you’d be using is even capable of filling an entire tumbler (or not overfilling it) in one convenient step. So, if you have the counter-space for a one-trick pony iced coffee maker (and you're a frequent consumer of iced coffee drinks), the Mr. Coffee actually delivers what you'd want and expect. Setup and operation are dead-simple—as simple as the giant info-graphic sticker on the lift-up lid: 1) Fill the double-walled, insulated tumbler (included) partially full with water—there’s a mark on the side of the tumbler so you don’t have to guess where to stop 2) Lift the lid and take the top off the coffee base maker using the integrated basket-style handle; fill the base with water from the tumbler 3) Use the included measuring scoop to add coffee grounds into the reusable filter basket (which also has its own basket-style handle); set the top assembly with the filter basket back onto the base 4) Add ice up to the top of the tumbler—there’s another mark near the top of the tumbler so you don’t have to guess where to stop 5) Set the tumbler under the spout, make sure the flow lever is set to the left (marked with a little coffee droplet symbol), and press the start button on the left-side of the base It takes about 30 seconds for hot coffee to start flowing over the ice and 3 minutes for the entire tumbler to fill. During that time, enough of the ice melts to a) *completely* chill the resultant beverage to where it’s cold enough to legitimately be considered an “iced coffee” without tasting bitter or watered down; and b) make enough additional room in the tumbler to stir in plenty of syrup or creamer. From there, just pop on the cover (included) and add in a reusable straw (also included) to take your coffeehouse-style iced coffee to go. Obviously, your satisfaction with the results is going to be totally dependent on your coffee and creamer/syrup choices, but my wife and daughter thought their iced coffees were simply wonderful, and even remarked that the results were better than they expected. They also thought it was kind of fun and cool to have a dedicated iced coffee maker given that their initial question was, “Wait, can’t we just use our existing coffee maker to do something like this?” There are just a few observations I have on usability. One; as indicated earlier, there are no displays of any kind to indicate that brewing is complete and it’s safe to take your beverage away; nor is there an automated cut-off to stop the flow of hot liquid. That’s not a big deal at all; but if you’re impatient like my daughter, you’ll probably want to snag that tumbler away just a few milliseconds after the main brew cycle appears to be complete--but there’s still excess coffee hanging out in the filler tube that hasn’t quite finished its slow drip to evacuation. She was constantly complaining about having to clean up puddles under the outlet until I suggested she simply slide the flow lever over to the right to stop all liquid flow (unambiguously marked by a coffee droplet with a line through it) BEFORE removing the tumbler. She grimaced at the thought of having to do additional manual labor, but if you remember to do it, the flow open/close lever will definitely keep the countertop clean from errant drippage. Two; strong condensation tends to build up under the lid--like it does in most coffee makers of this design. The trouble is that in order to remove the filter basket for cleaning, you have to tilt the lid back more than 90 degrees, and the plastic drip guards near the hinge don’t quite extend far enough out to ensure that the water sliding down the inside of the lid lands inside the top assembly and not on the counter behind the coffee maker. Again, this is not a big deal if you’re careful about slowly opening the lid and shaking some of the water loose before fully opening the top cover, but it happened often enough that it warranted a mention. Bottom line: as indicated early on, this iced-coffee maker really doesn’t do anything more than any other coffee maker could do with a cup or tumbler full of ice under the spout. But the pre-measured scoop and amply sized, insulated travel tumbler, with ideal water and ice levels clearly marked, make it quick and easy (and even a little fun) to create professional-looking/tasting iced coffees at home. A few tweaks to the design and operation could actually make this a multi-purpose unit; but for the asking price and speed/ease of use, it’s still definitely recommended for iced coffee fans.

Good Choice If You Like Iced Coffee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently moved into a much larger house that has a small kitchenette area on the second story where 3 of the 5 bedrooms are. My 16 year old daughter chose that story to "live on" while my 19 year old son chose the basement... My daughter LOVES Iced Coffee so when I got the chance to get this, it was a no-brainer. Glad I did. Packaging was great, set up was expectedly simple and operation was intuitive. We used freshly ground coffee to experiment. First 4 cups were great. We then used pre-ground. No fault of this unit but not unexpected, the fresh ground was much better. That being said, the pre-ground was not bad, but fresh ground is worth the effort, especially for cold brew. End of the day, I would certainly recommend this to a friend. **PLEASE NOTE: This product was provided to me at no or reduced cost in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This review is exactly that, honest and unbiassed.**

This coffee's great!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not really a fan of fancy coffees as I prefer the traditional brew. But hey might as well try out what the fuzz about cold coffee. Well, here comes Mr. Coffee’s Single Serve Ice Coffee Maker. The ice coffee maker at first glance is nothing really special as it is really an ordinary coffee maker. What sets it apart that it offers convenience for those wanting iced coffee instead of a regular brew. Included in the package is a tumbler with two reusable straw. And by the way you can use your preferred tumbler. Making iced coffee is fairly a simple matter. (Note that this is different from a cold brew where you have to chill the coffee overnight.) Just simply pour in water that is half of what the tumbler can contain in the coffeemaker and fill the tumbler with ice to the brim. Simply press the start button and coffee will brew and pour to the tumbler. Normally the amount of coffee is exact when you use the included tumbler. But in as you use a different tumbler and feel that coffee will overflow, then there is a lever to stop the flow of coffee. It’s that easy. I’ve never realized that coffee prepared this way. And I don’t really spend much on coffee outside my home, I just realized I can make those fancy cold coffees at home. In fact the box says you can save up to $800 a year on coffee. I’d recommend this iced coffee maker.

A simple and easy solution for ice coffee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Verdict: It’s a simple coffee machine with a tumbler… but it’s actually a great solution for iced coffee. It’s simple, easy and it just works! Initial impressions. It’s reminds me a single serve coffee machines that you find in hotel rooms. It is small, light, and simple. The tumbler is tall and adequate to accommodate a large iced coffee drink. It has only one button (“Start”) and a switch to shut off coffee flow. Design. While the machine is simple, its design was well thought-out. The tumbler fits perfectly under the spout. There is a convenient switch to close the flow of coffee so that you can stop brewing when you have enough coffee. The compartment where the coffee filter is located comes completely off so you can dump the coffee grounds without dripping water on the floor. Taste. The machine provides basic drip brewing. Quality through brewing will be finite. The quality of your iced coffee will come down what kind of coffee you are using and its freshness. Overall, we are satisfied with the iced coffee results. The drinks taste good because of the easy coffee/water ratio, and ice amount in the tumbler. We use the machine several times per week now. Things I like: - Simple to use and easy to brew a nice iced coffee - Easy brew recipe with precise coffee and ice amounts - Tall tumbler and nice metal straws - It comes with a nice reusable coffee filter This is a simple machine but we like it. It is easy to use and brews enjoyable iced coffee.

Compact Single Serve Iced coffee machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this Iced Single serve Iced coffeemaker for my teen daughter who loves cold coffee. She loves and uses it daily from the day it was unboxed. This machine is sleek and has small form factor that takes less counter space and fits wells on the top of the mini refrigerator. It comes with a tumbler and 2 metal straws. The tumbler has marking for water and ice that is a key to make a good tasting cold coffee. This machine is no different than other traditional brewing machine. It does brew hot coffee and the process is very simple. Just add water to the level marked on the tumbler to the machine, add a scoop (included in the box) of coffee grounds. Fill the tumbler with cubed ice to the marking on the tumbler and press the brew button on the side to make coffee. It does have a slider in drip to avoid dripping if you need to pull the tumbler and not have drips on the counter. This machine uses a rapid chill brewing compared to other machines to quickly cool the hot coffee over the ice that maximizes the flavor and not watered down. Just add flavored creamer and the iced coffee is ready. Taste depends on the coffee grounds, creamer selection. We tried with Starbucks pike place roast grounds and the Starbucks caramel flavored creamer and with right quantity of everything (ice, water, coffee grounds and creamer) the cold coffee tastes more like store bought. My daughter absolutely loves it. Only con is the tumbler is not dishwasher safe and takes little longer to brew compared to other machines. Also, machine is made of plastic and not sure how long it will hold but for the price it’s a good buy. Overall, this machine saves visit to Starbucks by making it at home and my teen daughter is happy!

Works better than expected, but cheap feeling.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Mr Coffee 'Iced' Single Serve Iced Coffeemaker is a neat countertop addition. Overall, I'm very impressed with the iced coffee that this machine produces, it does chill rapidly, without a fancy chilling system, and doesn't dilute the coffee at all. It really does make iced coffee in just 4 minutes, is nice and compact, and brews flavorful coffee every time that doesn't get watered down in the tumbler. Have to admit that I was skeptical, especially when I didn't see any special 'chilling' component in the machine, or visible way of cooling down the coffee for it to be iced, but with a little trial and error, we managed to replicate pretty successfully the 'coffee house' drinks my wife and I are accustomed to, that tasted just as good, and were chilled nicely. We also tried flavored tea in the machine, however this resulted in very weak flavored tea, so I wouldn't recommend using the machine to make iced tea. MAKING YOUR ICED COFFEE: With the machine unplugged (Mr Coffee recommended that the machine is unplugged when not using it and before filling it up to prevent accidental brewing), take the included 22oz double walled tumbler and fill it up to the water mark (about halfway up the tumbler), lift the lid on the coffeemaker, remove the filter housing and pour that into the water container in the top of the coffeemaker. Replace the filter housing, place the ultra-durable, reusable gold tone coffee filter in the filter housing and add a scoop of your favorite coffee grounds. Close the lid. Take your tumbler and fill it up to the 'ice' line with ice and place it under the spout of the coffeemaker, in the recess. Plug in the machine, slide the 'drip stop' lever to the left and press start. The machine fires into life making hot, yes HOT coffee. This is where I was skeptical, that it was going to a) not be iced coffee, and b) would be watered down. As the hot coffee comes out, it does indeed melt a small hole through the ice, but the added water is negligible, definitely NOT watering down the coffee. Brewing continues, the small hole in the center goes all the way down to the bottom of the tumbler, and helps cool the coffee on the way down. Once finished brewing, slide the 'drip stop' lever to the right, and unplug the machine. Now you can add your creamer or syrup to the coffee, and place the stainless steel straw in your beverage. CLEVER!: One thing you will notice is the instant cool transfer from the ice and the coffee to the straw, and being stainless steel, it remains cold, adding to the sensation of having an ice cold beverage. Very clever! IN SUMMARY: For quick and flavorful iced coffee, this machine is a great addition to your beverage arsenal! My reason for removing one star from the rating is that this machine is somewhat cheap feeling, not very substantial in its build quality, and in my experience, the filter housing took some finagling to get in place each time, it wasn't a sure fit. That would be my only complaint about the machine overall.

As good as take out Iced Coffee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not found a way to make iced coffee at home that didn't taste watered down and bland. Until now! This machine is the perfect balance of coffee and ice. I don't know how they figured it out but they have the perfect combo in my opinion. The ice stays in the drink for over an hour. I've included a picture of the cup after about an hour and a half. You can still see ice cubes. I like to add a little flavored creamer but the possibilities are endless! You add what you like- or nothing if that's your taste! You will save a ton of money by skipping the drive-through for your morning coffee (and a lot of time!). My daughter has an "iced coffee maker" but it requires a specific type of coffee. I like that this uses whatever I have in the house. A few things I learned- use a paper filter. It's not necessary but helps with clean-up. It does take a few minutes to brew so make sure you leave time and aren't running out the door. It does have a lever to shut off the flow if you need to pull the cup away. I let it sit and drip every last drop out before adding my flavored cream. The lid screws on tightly and you can put your finger over the straw hole and tip it up and down to mix in your "extras". I also like that the straw is metal. It helps keep the drink cold as well! This is my go-to iced coffee every day!

My New Favorite Kitchen Device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of those things that you didn’t know how much you really needed until you got it. My wife and I drink iced coffee almost daily, usually by picking it up on the way to work from a local spot. We have a traditional hot coffee maker at home, and we also have them at work, but we prefer to pickup the iced variety. Now with our own iced coffee maker we have no need to make that stop on the way to work. It is incredibly convenient to be able to quickly make my coffee when I am about to head out the door, or just to have some in the afternoon as a treat. It is very simple to brew. The included tumbler (22oz) has the marks for the amount of water to add to the brewer, and how much ice to leave in the tumbler for the coffee to drip into. You get an included grinds scooper, and the directions recommend to use one heaping scoop per tumbler of coffee. I usually go 1 1/4 scoops. The entire process from beginning to end takes less than 5 minutes. I’d say it might take some a little more time to actually add the creamer, sugar, etc to their coffee, than to actually brew it. I’d say the only downside for us right now is that it is very difficult to find an extra tumbler. Now, you can use any 22oz tumbler, and there is a marking inside the brewer that also tells you how much water to use, but it would be nice to be able to get an extra tumbler so that my wife and I could each have our own. Other than this slight inconvenience, we absolutely love this brewer. I can definitely see ourselves buying more of these as gifts.

Fantastic iced coffee at home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Iced coffee from coffee chains is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I’ll admit it’s a bad habit that quickly bleeds me dry of money in the summer months. I love to sip on an iced coffee while working from home, relaxing, or out for a drive. I have attempted to make iced coffee at home and it never turns out as good as the coffee chains. Now I have this Mr. Coffee Single Serve Iced Coffeemaker, and it’s been a game changer for me. The process is simple to make proper iced coffee that actually tastes good. You get the iced coffee maker, tumbler, and 2 stainless steel straws. All you’ll need to provide is some coffee grounds, and ice. It takes simply 4 minutes to get a perfectly potent iced coffee in this machine. Fill water, scoop some coffee grounds, add ice, and you’ll be sipping on some iced coffee in minutes. Overall I love the fact that making this at home can save me hundreds of dollars annually by choosing to make this treat for myself in my own residence. The iced coffee comes out really flavorful and just the right potency without being watered down. The process is simple and my spouse and I can make a couple cups for the road in minutes. Consider that $10 saves between the 2 of us on 1 day. Add that up over time based on your usage and you may end up saving money as well. Small investment to make but if you love iced coffee I will highly recommend this Mr. Coffee Single Serve Iced Coffeemaker.

Not a big fan
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this with high hopes, particularly for the touted rapid cooling feature. But the brewing coffee comes out quite hot. I guess I should have expected this, as there is no technology in this simple unit that could produce any other result. So there is a lot of ice melt, but if you put the recommended amount of ice in the tumbler, it should still come out as intended. The device is pretty flimsy, and the first one I purchased had a piece of plastic broken off the lid even though there was no damage to the box. It is also kind of a pain to assemble and disassemble. This will fit the bill if you drink enough iced coffee to justify a dedicated machine. But I don't need another single-use appliance sitting on my counter. I am more satisfied overall with my manual cold brew carafe, and the taste is better. The only downside is you need to plan ahead a bit for it.
