Small device, powerful speaker, great assistant

I was originally looking for a speaker for my small home office, but decided to get a speaker with an assistant. The speaker itself is quite powerful for what I need (music, podcasts, mindfulness, etc...), but the assistant has been fun to play with. I'm always imagined asking someone to set an alarm, set up my calendar, etc..and this device does exactly that, and more. I'm hoping to connect it to my light dimmers and other devices in the future. I'm not giving a full 5 stars since I have run into some issues with it disconnecting or logging out every so often. It's easy to overcome by rebooting or setting up again, but it's quite annoying. Google should be able to do better.

It's hard to really call this an upgrade, the sound is better, the newer touch spots resolve issues from the previous generation, but I've had more problems with the second generation models than I ever did with the first. They frequently mishear me, even when I'm only a few feet away, if they even seem to hear me at all. I even had to reset and reconfigure both of them after they somehow lost their wifi settings while every other device was perfectly happy.

Google Assistant might not respond properly when you say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google,” particularly in a noisy environment. Also, being specific with your query will help you get better responses. Make sure Nest Minis recognize your questions correctly. Ask the same questions to see if you will get the same answer. Retraining your Nest Minis, to better recognize your voice, and adjusting the Hotword sensitivity may be helpful with the issue. You may follow the steps on these help articles:

Ask questions found on the internet, weather, my calendar, change the thermostat setting, timers/alarms, reminders, turn on/ off lights, play music from various sources and with only a request. My son has, you know, the other one, and it has a continual problem thinking you are talking to it - not the google mini. Love it!

Not only is the audio quality good, but stereo separation was also very good. The only problem was when I tried to connect to a wi-fi extender. That didn't work out. But once we got past that, it was smooth sailing. Love these speakers for music listening!

We bought 3 more for family Christmas gifts. I'm so glad we got them on sale. Can't wait tell my mom trys to use hers. Wish I would have bought more. I will recommend this it to all my friends and a great item to have if you need to call for help. It does it for you.

Have them all connected and with play together. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because sometimes they disconnect from the WiFi. Not sure if that is a fault in the product or in my WiFi. I know I have issues sometimes, but can not be sure

Great for automating your smart devices. Connectivity across iOS devices is not as seamless but still works great.

Buy a couple of GE smart bulbs and operate lights with the sound of your voice. It is excellent when you are in bed and do not want to get up just to turn the light out. It also allows for seamless listening of most streaming services and will set alarms at command. We did have a problem with it connecting to wifi. I read about the problem and decided to try the suggested reset and it worked perfectly ever since.

The first things we bought for our smart home as we expand out into that ecosystem. Not bad! Some connectivity issues during set up, but easily fixable.

You can find compatible 3rd party wall mount accessories with some of our partner online resellers. And for the best experience when giving Nest Mini voice commands, we recommend retraining it with the Voice Match feature:
Retrain Voice Match:
- On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Assistant settings and then Voice Match.
- Tap Teach your Assistant your voice again and then Retrain.
You may also want to adjust Nest Mini's hotword sensitivity:
- Open your Google Home app.
- Select your Nest Mini.
- At the top right, tap the Settings (Gear) icon.
- Then tap Audio.
- Then tap "Hey Google" sensitivity and adjust the slider to make your Nest Mini more responsive to the hotword.

I don't like that I can't connect all applications to it (i have an amazon music subscription and can't use it on here). It also randomly lights up or comes on without trigger words (always listening?) I got it for free with another item I purchased. Its not something I would buy more of or buy again.

Please check your internet connection...” It became so frustrating that I switched to Amazon Alexa. No issues. Unfortunately I couldn’t return the Nest Mini since I got rid of the packaging.

Easy start

Google Nest or Home speakers and displays can only remember one Wi-Fi network at a time. To connect to a different Wi-Fi network, you might need to factory reset your Nest Mini, then set it up again. Visit the following links for more information:

It’s always says there was a glitch try again in a few seconds or something went wrong try again in a few seconds. Also playing night sounds all night instead of turning off after a while. Sometimes not turning lights on or off. Will look into Apple devices or Amazon echo more as I still have the first generation with zero issues

Resetting may help improve your experience with the glitchy issue for your Nest Mini. Keep in mind that this will erase all data and that you may need to set it up again. To reset, check on the side of your device, switch the mic off. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.
