Terrible Mic on this Google assistant produce
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a lot of Google Assistant products, frankly this is the worst of them. I generally love “Google Assistant”, but the Mic on this one is so bad, it can hardly pick my voice right most of the time, frequently Assistants that I have in other room will pick up first my commands than this that is on the room I am. The sound is decent for the size, it is just the mic that is terrible. I sometimes wonder if I got a defective one.

Posted .Hi Hector, thanks for letting us know about your issue with Nest Mini. We're sorry to hear about the mic issue you're having with it.
The mic issue is most likely related to the level of sensitivity with how the Google Assistant recognizes your hotword. We recommend adjusting the sensitivity level, including retraining the Google Assistant with your voice commands using the Voice Match feature. Here are the steps you can follow:
Retrain Voice Match:
- On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Assistant settings and then Voice Match.
- Tap Teach your Assistant your voice again and then Retrain.
Change Nest Mini's hotword sensitivity:
- Open your Google Home app.
- Select your Nest Mini.
- At the top right, tap the Settings (Gear) icon.
- Then tap Audio.
- Then tap "Hey Google" sensitivity and adjust the slider to make your Nest MIni more responsive to the hotword.

its annoying at times and feels cheap
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I watched so many youtube reviews, and I have now tested the google and alexa home assistants. saying hey google everytime is boring and feels like they are trying to force brand marketing on its users. you can not change it, unlike alexa which is a nice name thats easier and faster to say, and you can change alexa wakeup command too. my biggest issue with the google nest mini is when you try to turn lights to a certain color and it gets it wrong, then it starts talking really fast listing off the search results it found. the only way to shut it up is to tap on it, you can not stop it by voice. alexa lets you shut her up with just your voice. i get the feeling google will be smarter overall, and thats also what the reviews generally say. I also like that the google nest is touch sensitive, which the amazon echo is not. finally, I haven't tested the echo long enough but it feels much heavier, and comes with a significantly more powerful power plug. this indicates a more powerful speaker in the amazon echo. google nest is also uglier than the echo dot in my opinion, though im not in love with amazon echo design either. both of these are 25 at the time. i bought a google tv at the same time and it is buggy and slow, will be returning that as well. personally I prefer my old roku, its simple and works without crashing

Decent, but buggy for speaker groups
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a decent product and speaker. However, I purchased two of these to use with a Google Nest Hub Max, as I wanted music in every room. You are supposed to be able to just cast music to a speaker group and have it play everywhere. I created a speaker group with my Minis and the nest Hub Max. However, there is some kind of software bug and you are not able to do this. It will not play to every speaker. There is a workaround that I found after researching for a few hours, but it is a work around and annoying. After looking at mine, it seems like there are many people with the same issue and Google has not updated this to work even though apparently this has been an issue since last year. If you are buying this so you can have music in every room, then I would not bother. For any other reason though, this was a okay product.

Posted .Hi Gadgetula,
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about the issues you've been having when creating a speaker group with your Nest Hub Max and Nest Minis.
We suggest performing the following steps to see if they might help you resolve the issue:
1. Check if you are using a G-Suite email Account. You will need a standard Google Account linked to your Google Nest devices as we have limited support for G-Suite accounts.
2. Delete your old Speaker group and try creating a new one, then add your Google Nest Speakers.
3. If the first two steps don't work, you can delete the speaker group you created and perform a Factory Reset on each of your Google Nest speakers.
4. You can then set up the speakers, create a new speaker group and add them up again.
If the issue persists, we'd be happy to do our best to help you at our support page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow

Buy at your own risk
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I almost never review products that I purchase, but I couldn't stay quite about this smart speaker. It has some pros and cons, but for me the cons outweighed the pros. So let's begin with the pros. It is a great product if all you are doing are asking questions, using it as a reminder tool, alarm clock, shopping list, spotify music, controlling your smart plugs and smart lights. And that's about it. CONS: One of the biggest reason I returned this product is because of it's bluetooth connectivity. Bluetooth would only pair to devices once, and then it would say "Something went wrong, unable to turn on bluetooth pairing mode, please try again later". If you wanted to pair new devices, you would have to unplug it and plug it back in for bluetooth pairing to work! 99% of the time, it would not connect to paired devices. I had it connect to my laptop, and almost immediately, it disconnected and never reconnected to my laptop. Google owns YouTube, and it's quite ironic that you couldn't cast YouTube videos to this smart speaker. If you wanted to watch videos and listen to music from YouTube you would have to connect it via bluetooth which barely worked for me. Setting up smart lights and smart plugs was also annoying. I tried pairing C By GE lights, and it never recognized the devices, when the C By GE app recognized their products immediately. A setup process that usually takes 2-3 minutes took me almost an hour. Once connected though, turning off lights and the smart plugs worked everytime. I was not expecting such a hard time with a product that was developed by one of the biggest tech companies on the planet. I was very upset having to return this product. If you want a smart speaker and an assistant for within the $30-$50 range, I would highly recommend the Amazon Echo Dot. I exchanged my Nest for the Dot, and it has yet to disappoint me. Would not spend my money nor my time of google home products again!

Stopped working
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven’t even had mine a year and it just stopped working. It will no longer pick-up my voice and no longer connect to WiFi. I tried factory resetting it and still nothing. The worst part is is that once I hooked it up ...I hadn’t touched it, or moved, or done anything to it except use it when I was in that specific bedroom. So it’s not like I used it or moved it around much at all for it to stop working. When it was working it was great, I controlled my thermostat, and did all the other cool things it would allow me to do just by speaking to it. Bummer.

Still a few bugs in the system
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got these to replace my union-busting Alexas & discovered that while Google devices seem fine, the Nest software is super buggy, not nearly the dependable performance of Alexa. Different devices respond than the one you talk to, scheduled announcements play or not, Google help don’t seem to know why. They play music okay?

Posted .Hi medievalmvb, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with Nest Mini is less than ideal.
If multiple devices are responding to your commands, we recommend checking if you have an updated Google app version. Also, make sure that all of your devices are connected on the same account, and on the same Wi-Fi network.
Resetting your Nest Mini may be helpful to refresh the system. This will erase all data and you may need to set it up again. To reset, switch the mic off located on the side of your device. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.
If the issue still persists, we recommend reaching out to our support team again, so we can further investigate what’s causing the issue. You may call us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

when working is great but often disconnects
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this for a few months now and also have a Google Home Mini. The Nest Mini is great when it works but it unfortunately keeps disconnecting from my WiFi, unlinks my home, resets itself, and needs to be manually reset fairly often. My previous mini, in the same location, wasn’t like this and isn’t like this in it’s current location. I can only hopefully assume that it’s my specific device that is defected and not the whole Nest mini line.

Disconnects all the time.
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound quality is good for the price. Very good for google assistant. However I am giving two stars because for the past two months all it disconnects from the internet at least three times a week with the only fix being having to reset the whole unit and setting it up completely again from scratch. There’s a lot of complaints online about it and there have been for a while and Google hasn’t done anything at all.

Posted .Hi Alex,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear of the connectivity issue with your Nest Mini.
While we are aware of an issue regarding Nest Mini that disconnects from Wi-Fi network, we recommend performing some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. You can restart Nest Mini and Wi-Fi router to refresh the connection. Unplug the power cable from Nest Mini and Wi-Fi router and leave them unplugged for at least a minute. Then, reconnect the devices and wait for them to boot up.
If rebooting the Nest Mini and Wi-Fi router doesn't fix the issue, we suggest performing a factory reset on Nest Mini device then set up.
If your Nest Mini has the same issue, we want to let you know that we are working hard to resolve it. If you're willing, you can contact our support team so we can learn more about your Nest Mini here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Fine b/c it was free
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We got this as an add-on with a Sharp TV...It's novel, but cannot do several of the TV things (can change to TV and change channel, cannot load specific shows/games in apps) that I really wanted it for. In hindsight, I probably would have done one of the TVs that came with the Echo instead. That said, it was super easy to sync to my google stuff

Doesn't work As it Should
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got both the Alex and Google Nest mini; I actually bought several of each. It took me a few hours to really set both up, but I'm finding the Echo Dot to work better and actually do as I ask. I got the Google Nest Mini mainly for Youtube as I have a Premium account on Youtube. The employee at Best Buy assured me it would work great with Youtube, but apparently that information is false as at the moment there is an issue with this device working properly with Youtube. I know you have to be specific with what you say, but it doesn't play the right song half the time, or at all. It got the music right about 35% of the time if it is a popular song, while the rest of the time it played songs I never heard of, when i asked for something else. It won't play songs on my Playlists, even after looking it up and putting in the proper routine for it; it tells me that can't be played/work right now. reading comments from others online, I see they have the same issue. I will be returning two that I purchased as I was promised they would work for Youtube, when in fact they don't. I'm keeping my third for help with questions, as this device is still good for random questions and information, but I'll be relying on Alexa to play the music I actually listen to.

Google is cutting back!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the Nest series! I have a thermostat, protects, and other various sensors, but this assistant is lacking when you compare it to the Echo Dot (Alexa). You cannot you voice prompts to connect to other services like Alarm.com or other services that do not have their own app. Google used to let you but stopped doing so a few months ago. It's also a bit slow and many times never replies back to you. It's kinda lame.

Mini Nest arbitrarily turns off
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sometimes slow to start. Often just stops for no apparent reason. Sometimes I turn it on and it starts playing commercials. I've gone back to listening to my 45 year old Panasonic radio. When I turn it on it starts immediately and stays on. When I turn it off, it's off and not "listening" to me.

There better out there.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So if you own an android and are used to telling your phone what to do this device will get annoying when you're home, because both your phones and it will try to do as you asked. Also it lacks the direct connection feature, you can only " announce" a recorded message, where with the competitor you can have a direct line of communication between two dots. In so many words Google needs to catch up.

progressively getting worse
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I initially bought these over a year ago I would have given 5 stars but the Google home software has progressively gotten worse over that time. Google is getting slower and dumber
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The speaker itself is adequate for its size. But Google Assistant is terrible. Just asking simple questions is almost a shouting match. It’s the same with other speakers. I ask a question, no response. I ask again, same. I ask a third time, 2 second delay, question answered. If you need a voice controlled speaker, skip Google, and get an Echo instead.
