Alright so I bought a set of these and when it's plugged directly into my modem I'm maxing out at 450mbs download while standing directly next to it, when I'm paying for 1gb. I understand devices have speed limitations but my iPhone 11 gets 550+ when I'm connected to my netgear router. SO, I'm cool with 450mbs if that can hold up, even tho I'd prefer it to match my netgear, but I have a very large space so I bought a second set and I have 6 total units. After hooking up the additional 3 my speeds dropped to 150-200mbs even when standing directly next to the main router. I've factory reset it several times and not sure why adding 3 more units would slow speeds even further. I'm really disappointed with these considering how much they cost. I'll be buying mesh networks from several other brands and test them against these. So far I've tested 1 other mesh network brand and it has performed even worse than the google setup. If anyone has any advice or tips please let me know!

I am very dissatisfied with them. I get full speeds on the router but very slow speeds on the pods. The pods also disconnect all the time it will say good connection then weak and lose internet. Its literally 25" away. It says to move it closer but then it would be in the same room

Hello there, thanks for giving us your feedback on Nest Wifi, and we’re sorry to learn of your poor experience with the performance and connectivity of the Nest Wifi points.

It is important to check the placement of your Wi-Fi router and point, which are vital to have reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.

It may also be helpful to try the following steps to see if the Wi-Fi performance will improve:
      - Move the connected device closer to your Wifi router or point.
      - Repositioning the points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquariums can improve performance.
      - Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
      - Run a mesh test to confirm placement of your Wifi points.

We’d be happy to help and guide you with further troubleshooting if you can visit us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Small and cute but not for apt living or Ooma Tel

I combined this purchase with a Netgear modem, since I realized my internet was performing super slowly -- lagging, cycling, etc. Then I remembered that my equipment was several years old. Since I have about 15 devices online regularly (cell phones, laptops, Smart TVs, etc.), decided to upgrade my set-up. I went ahead and splurged on these....But aren't these little nestie things so cute though? I love the small footprint! Thought this would be a perfect solution for my 1,200 sq. ft. single story apt. Initially, the set-up and connection process was really seamless. The nightmare came when I tried to hook my Ooma Telo to it. The Telo would not get back online at all. I literally wasted like five hours on the phone with Ooma tech support, Spectrum, etc. No one could help me. It wasn't the firewall, either. The Ooma just wouldn't connect to the internet. Since there is only one ethernet port on the Nest, there was no other wiring option that I could figure out -- nor could Ooma tech support! Since I LOVE my Ooma and am not giving up my $5.00 a month home phone bill for any cute Nest, I took this back to BestBuy and returned it. Solution: Exchanged it and bought a Netgear Orbi (the pack with the router + two receivers - 6,000 sq feet coverage). It has multiple ports on the back....just what I needed to get my Ooma back on track! Had the Orbi router and two points + Ooma all set up and running in less than 15 minutes -- BAM! As a side note, although expensive, the modem + router upgrade was totally worth it. My internet is fire now!!! :-) Although cute, not worth it for the money or the aggravation.

    Too many issues

I got a 2 pack right at the beginning of the pandemic as I was expecting more devices to be connected throughout the day. I thought it was going to be plenty for a 2000 sq ft house and will fix the dead spots. Setup was quick enough and has basic controls in case you want to customize (e.g. I use opendns for site blocking, you can setup priority device for few hours but didn't really notice much change while using it). The first issue I ran into was few devices which use 2.4 GHz only. These devices would not connect so I had to use workarounds like setting up a temporary tethering 2.4 GHz network with same credentials. After few months, I realized that majority of devices were not switching between the two points when moving within the house. You would have to switch off wifi and switch it back on the device to connect to the closest point. It was so bad at times that I was better off just unplugging the second point and just use the router. After 7-8 months, the additional point started having more issues and would go offline overnight and had to be restarted. Now after 15 months, the additional points goes offline within hours of restarting. I tried factory reset but there was no change. I was expecting much smoother experience (isn't that the whole point of a mesh system?) and longer life from a $250+ device. I am heavily into google ecosystem so tried my best to make it work but will be looking for a better mesh system now.

Hi Sudi, we appreciate your feedback and thanks for being heavily invested with Google products.

We’re sorry to hear your experience with the connectivity and performance of your Nest Wifi. It may be helpful to try these workaround to see if the connectivity will improve:
      - Move the connected device closer to your Nest Wifi Router or Point.
      - Repositioning the Points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquariums can improve performance.
      - Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
      - Run a mesh test to confirm placement of your Nest Wifi Points. Try to move your Nest Router or Point to a more open or unobstructed location and your Nest Wifi Router or Points closer to each other.
      - Restart your network.
      - Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to confirm your service is working properly.

The Nest Wi-Fi Routers Do Not Last

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We've had the Nest Wifi Router with multiple access points for about three years now and we are on our third router. The last held out a little longer than our first but failed in the last week. They don't fail outright, what you see is they start to drop wifi and then pick back up, drop again, and pick back up. These symptoms get progressively worse until you get fed up with things not working. The first time around, Google Support was not helpful in finding a fix after a few days of troubleshooting. The diagnostics were somewhat helpful; enough for me to determine it was a hardware issue after checking with my ISP. For the second time, symptoms were the same and the fix was the same; buy a new router. Since we are fully integrated with Google and Google Home, it made sense to stick with this. We wanted to upgrade to Nest Pro 6E, but the reviews you read say there are far too many issues and bugs with their current firmware. The multiple open-box Nest Pros at Best Buy would seem to confirm that. Since these are becoming obsolete, I am sure when this one fails in a year or so, Google will have those issues sorted out. Google, if you're reading this, save your time, no reply is needed, I don't need any lackluster support today.

First, the positives. This is easy to setup and it does reach a good distance with just the main router. Download speeds only slightly trailed off as you got further from the router. But the big negative is upload speed. It absolutely THROTTLED my uploads over WiFi. The router was within 6 feet of my computer but I was getting 1/6th of the speeds I got with my 3 year old Asus router. If you, like me, spend any time uploading large files DO NOT BUY.

      Hi nanatsuya,

Thanks for sharing your review of Nest Wifi with us. We're sorry for the slow upload speed that you experienced.

While your download speed and coverage are great, the slow upload speed is quite unexpected. If you are using a modem/router combo, we recommend disabling the combo's Wi-Fi function to avoid a Double NAT as the issue could be related.

Also, if you have an upstream switch, then it may be blocking STP packets which can be another reason for the network to have unstable connectivity.
      - For unmanaged switch - move it downstream from Nest Wifi router. We suggest connecting it to Nest Wifi router’s LAN port.
      - For managed switch - enable BPDU flooding.

we can help you further if you can let us know more details on the issue. Please consider reaching out to us by visiting https://support.google.com/wifi/contactflow Nest

WiFi is great, LAN port on router is disappointing

I was given this set for a birthday present back in January and finally got around to setting it all up. Easy setup, great WiFi speeds and coverage. I have a 200/10 connection and full speed across all nodes of this package. With that said, the single reason I have for only giving it 2 stars is the LAN port on the router node will not exceed 20MB or so even though it's rated at 100MB. Having that capability was a major reason why I wanted this set in the first place and to have something so basic, so poorly implemented is very disappointing to say the least. I have seen multiple other posts online about this issue that has existed since the beginning yet nothing is being done to fix it yet. I have tried multiple devices, multiple CAT 5e and 6 cables known to be good in other connections, etc. and the results are the same. So if your looking for a robust WiFi only mesh setup, the Nest WiFi is hard to beat but if your looking to use the LAN port on the router node, make sure to test it out first to make sure yours is giving you what your paying for. It's too late now for me to return this setup but my plans to spend a couple hundred more to add a couple more router nodes to take advantage of the LAN Ethernet connectivity is not going to happen now. I will probably just give this away to my grandson, who needs a good Wifi setup and get something else.

When it does work, it works quite well. I do like that it works through the Google Home app and I don't have to have an additional app to manage it. However, I do wish there was a web access portal and it wasn't limited to just the app. I do have to reset the Wi-Fi points at least once a week because they go offline. In hindsight, I should have gone with TP-Link.

So angry at Google. The set up has been a mess. The worst part is Google support where you get a foreign-based rep who cant understand your English questions and you spend hours going around in circles. Every rep Ive chatted or spoken to has given me different information. THey said you just plug it in and everythign will work the same as long as you use the same wifi name and password. IT DOESNT>. Ive spent hours today just to get my Google Speakers running again. By the time the rep in Asia who puts me on hold gets back to me, I figure things out. Now IM told that the Hues lights that Ive spent A LOT of money on over the years are not compatible with Google WIfi. Again no information prior to purchase. No wonder my Hues isn’t connecting and now I cant even work my lights and have wasted hundreds of dollars. Ive spent all night on this. Havent eaten. And all because of this terrible Google support. I regret buying this. I already left Google Pixels and Google Fi behind because of the terrible customer support. I thought this might help with coverage. But not sure it even does that and the reps say they have to be 20 feet from each other and cannot be on different floors. Thats not true either. Mine connected but still half my wifi devices are no longer working and its a big mess. And you cannot get a uS based rep

I was extremely excited about this product. However, this Nest Wifi is very slow (I get less than 200 mbps) which is way worse than my 2012 router. The speakers really are terrible, which is worse than the Nest mini. The microphones for google assistant is atrocious (when the music is playing, Google Assistant has troubles hearing you) - way worse than the Nest mini. Moreover, the paint finish is terrible- got a slight chip after just a small bump on my counter. The concept and idea is awesome - router and points that have Google Assistant. The router is extremely easy to setup, but you need to download the Google Home app (but you also need to download Google Nest app... and need to download Google Wifi app...), which makes the whole experience completely fragmented and confusing. For the price, the execution needs a lot of work. I recommend just getting a faster router/mesh system then buy a few mini's. This is extremely unfortunate, but I had to return them due to the slow internet and annoyance of using the Google assistant.

Hi duece49, thanks for sharing your feedback with us, and it’s unfortunate to learn that your experience with using the Nest Wifi is less than ideal. We can imagine how disappointing it can be when you expected it to improve the wireless signal coverage throughout your house, and we’re sorry that it fell short of your expectations. We understand your decision to return it, but if you’re willing to consider using the Nest Wifi, It may be helpful to check the placement of your Wi-Fi router and point, which are vital to have reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.

You can also try the following steps to see if the Wi-Fi performance will improve:
      - Move the connected device closer to your Wifi router or point.
      - Repositioning the points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquariums can improve performance.
      - Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
      - Run a mesh test to confirm placement of your Wifi points.

Seems like few of the reviews here are from people that have lived with the product for an extended period of time. It's great at first and is very easy to set up, but, over time, consistent connection and speeds become an issue. My house is small enough for it to cover the whole interior and stretch into our yard, so that's great, but the connections are borderline unusable at times. We had our ISP come out and replace the line coming into our house from the pole along with some of the hookup fixtures. Still trash. Afterwards, we switched back to our old router and speeds were instantly better and more representative of what we should be getting. So here I am with an almost $300 system that is useless compared to the router I replaced with it. If you go on the Google WiFi subreddit, you'll find many of the same stories. I would not recommend this system to anybody. It sounds like it's a crapshoot whether or not it will work for you after 4-6 months.

I had been experiences issues with my wifi speeds on the router provided by my internet provider, having heard great things about mesh systems along with googles track record I figured this would be a good place to start. After putting my gateway/router combo in pass-through mode and undergoing the initial setup which was as painless as possible, my speeds were fantastic with my 1Gb home plan. This continued for around the first month or so, but then the router/mesh system would experience extreme drop offs sporadically in speed requiring far too many restarts. After troubleshooting for a few days without a resolution, I decided to return the system in favor of a traditional ASUS performance router for about the same price and have been very happy with that decision.

It initially was great- the boost in wifi signal was noticeable. The downer is that the point in the kitchen constantly disconnects. It flashes yellow or states it is not connected to wife multiple times in even. just 10 minutes. If you are playing music through the point, the music just stops. once it reconnects, the music starts, sometimes. I don't think it is really. helping our wifi strength now that it is constantly disconnecting. (we purchased in end of august). We have tried resetting/restarting multiple times per google help. Nothing helps.

      Hi Jenverk,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We´re sorry to hear of the constant disconnection issue you experienced for the Nest Wifi Point in your kitchen.

Your Nest Wifi Router can cover up to 2,200 sq ft, while each of your Nest Wifi Points can cover 1,600 sq ft of space in your home. However, these Wi-Fi coverage areas maybe affected by a few factors that are most likely causing the poor connectivity of the Nest Wifi Point in your kitchen:
      - Signal interference caused by the thick walls, appliances (microwave oven, refrigerator, etc.) and other electronic devices located between your Nest Wifi Router and Nest Wifi Points or between your Nest Wifi Points, may weaken the Wi-Fi signal and slow your connection.
      - Your Nest Wifi Point (in your kitchen) may also be too far from your Nest Wifi Router or Nest Wifi Point. Often, moving your Nest Wifi Point closer to your Nest Wifi Router or strategically positioning it will result in improved connectivity and speeds.

Your Nest Wifi comes with a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty starting from the date of original purchase. If the issue isn't resolved even after following the steps we provided, then we may need to have a further look at the issue. It works great bringing WiFi into an area of the home that has always had shoddy reception but when it comes to using the assistant it fails. For about a month it worked, playing music, telling jokes, controlling devises but then it stopped working. Whenever you’d ask for something it would instruct you to sign into the Google Home app. I’ve tried many things but can’t seem to make it work again. While researching fixes I found that this is a common occurrence and a known problem for google for almost two years. It’s frustrating that this hasn’t been rectified after such a long time. If you’re looking for a WiFi extender these work great, if you’d like to take advantage of its other options look somewhere else.

      Hi KevS,

We appreciate you for sharing your review of Nest Wifi and are sorry to hear of the issue with your Nest Wifi point's Google Assistant feature.

There can be a few reasons why Google Assistant of your Nest Wifi point gives such error. To isolate the issue further, you may try some steps below:

Perform a five minute power cycle:
      - Disconnect power from modem.
      - Disconnect Ethernet cable and power from your Nest Wifi.
      - Leave them all unplugged for five minutes.
      - Connect power to modem and allow the modem to power on fully before proceeding. This can take up to two minutes.
      - All light indicators should be solid.
      - Connect Ethernet cable and power to your Nest Wifi. Wait until it’s fully back online.

You can also perform a factory data reset:
      - Look for a circle etched into the bottom. Press and hold the factory reset button at the bottom of your Google Nest Wifi router for 10 seconds. The light will pulse yellow, then turn solid yellow. When the light is solid yellow, release the button. Once the button is released, the light will turn solid white for a brief moment (five seconds), then to a solid orange light.
      - Once the light turns to solid orange, this will start the reset process. It can take up to 10 minutes. Do not unplug the power cord during this process.
      - When factory reset is complete, the light on your router will turn to a faint solid white light. After a few seconds, it will pulse white.
      - Once the Nest Wifi router is pulsing white, it's ready for setup.

We may need to know more on what may be causing the issue for your Nest Wifi system to help you further. Please feel free to reach out to us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow Nest

Claims 2200 Mbps, seems capped at 100. Support forums suggest that this is a problem since a recent firmware error. I don't have time to mess with this stuff, so I'm getting another brand. If you don't need the claimed speeds, this should be fine. It's easy but not fast to set up. If you know what you're doing, it seems slow to set up - as you could probably manually do it. I had the previous Google wifi, this does not use the feature rich WiFi app, it uses a very dumbed down user interface in Google Home. As with many google products, they down graded the iteration.

Hi StevenL, thanks for letting us know about the speed issue with Nest Wifi Router. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you.

Nest Wifi Router is an AC2200 capable router with maximum speed of 400 Mbps @2.4 GHz and 1733 Mbps @5 GHz frequency bands. These speeds are ideal speeds in a perfect environment when there is no congestion present and are reliant on your Internet bandwidth. These speeds will also be limited by your devices as they may not be capable of receiving speeds anywhere close to this since they may be older devices with older Wi-Fi chips may be capped at much lower speeds.

If you still have reservations with the speed of Nest Wifi Router and if you'd like us to have a look at the issue, we'd be happy to work with you to figure out what may be causing it.
