First off I love my Google Nest items and thought this would be the perfect companion. So first the PROs of the device. Just plug it in. That is it. Just plug it in and you are done. Setup is that easy. Now for the CONs: You have NO control. The unit won't let you change WiFi channels. It simply selects the one it thinks is best for you and does the rest. There is no web page to log into to over ride default settings. It just does the WiFi part for you. You may still have to configure your router. And of course mine opted for Channel 1 and there is no way to change that. The good news is that this thing is POWERFUL!!!! It kicked my neighbors who were using the default of channel 1 clean off. Not only did it kick my neighbors off channel one, it kicked off many of the distant ones as well. Now I am the only one on channel 1 and everyone else is using other channels. So why would I only give it three stars? Well I am a tech guy and I like having the control to put it where I want it and not have it treat me as if I am a newb. That said I have no complaints about the WiFi aspects of it. Google needs to work on the Assistant. It's still not ready for prime time but neither are Siri or Aleaxa. My biggest beef with all of them is that they won't let you change the Assistants name and the documentation for Google does state that it has a problem with dogs named Boo or Boo Boo. No, our dog's name isn't Boo. It's Blue which seems to be close enough. Get with it Google! Fix the Assistant NOW! Google assistant is pretty nice when you get used to speaking slowly. Too bad these are outdated and I need to blow another $399 to upgrade. Oh and yes they are FAST so not sure I need 6E especially now that WiFi 7 is out.

Google Mesh is the real deal

I needed to update my wifi router, so I researched the mesh wifi routers. I also love the android software over apple, I had just switched my phone from Iphone to Google Pixel 5. However I was skeptical of how good the Google Nest would be. Researching through many routers Google kept showing up as rating in top 5 of many reviews. I decided to buy it. I have no regrets. First let me explain my setup. We live in an apartment building where you see many wifi setups using similar channels from the people living above or below or across from your apartment, this can cause interference hence your wifi speed suffers. With my older router I had to manually change the wifi channel used to communicate with all the devices in my apartment. This would help temporarily increase my wifi speeds. However it was a pain to have to do this manually. I pay for 100 MBPS internet, and I was averaging 60-75 MBPS on wifi, higher if I was using ethernet wire directly to the router. The farthest room had low wifi signal and would only get at best 20 MBPS. With Google Nest I am getting beyond the speed I pay. This is possible because Google Nest is constantly monitoing the best wifi channel, and will automatically change the channel to optimize and maintain the highest speeds. On my Google pixel 5 phone I get up to 200 MBPS on Wifi. My PS4 gets on avg 150 MBPS. The farthest room in the Apartment gets 110 MBPS way more than the 20 MBPS speeds with the old router. The setup was very easy and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. For some it may take longer if they need to figure out the best place for their router and the mesh wifi point. I pretty much knew where to put mine. One last point is that Google automatically updates your router and they give you details in their app, called Google Wifi. I truly recommend this mesh router to anyone living in apartments as there are many wifi setups that can cause interference around you. Also recommend this to anyone upgrading their router.

I’ve MESH system for my my new bigger house. I have a pod on all three house levels placed as centered as I could get. I did add a 4th older pod that adds better Wi-Fi to my garage and patio area on the far side of the house. Very happy after almost 2 years. They are also not distracting with all those antennas as well. They were way to set up. Just know what speed your paying for from the provider and what your devices can handle with their hardware and you won’t be disappointed. Older tech can’t run at Gig speed and are limited to the internal network hardware.

Network device is usually a serious device and the manual would follow suit. Not this product. Google has made the mesh system user friendly. From the moment you open the product box, you can feel that this is indeed a Google product. Setup is easy and instructions are clear. The router connects to modem seamlessly and the point unit provides you not only a mesh system but also a mini Google home speaker. Plug and play with minimum setup. Shortly, the magic of the mesh system will extend the wifi coverage in your home. That gives possibility to install smart home devices in more areas of your home, such as smart lamp or wireless home security system. I place the router unit and the mesh system on a different level of a building and the mesh system works well. The google wifi app provides you with customization and more settings of your wifi system. The setting might not be as deep as what you would find in a typical router but that should not be a problem for most users, unless you’re a network guy that knows the ins and outs of network and really need of every possible network settings and customization. Google made it easy to set important settings such as determining priority devices, provides guest wifi network, and setup family wifi. The family wifi feature is a powerful tool that lets you to control wifi access of specific member of the family and it also provides safe search technology that prevents access to million of adult websites should you choose to activate the feature. One of the features that I particularly like is the seamless integration to google Stadia platform. The mesh system is supposedly automatically prioritizing connection when you game with google Stadia. I can't really attest to the performance of this feature yet as my Internet bandwith is large enough that connection has never been an issue for me. The prioritization to google Stadia is a helpful feature when you game, though as a rule of thumb, you don’t want to do competitive gaming on a wireless network and maybe not on a cloud based gaming platform. Lastly, the mesh point unit comes built-in with Google home speaker capabilities. The app provides you with options to link popular streaming services to the mesh point unit so that you can play songs from the speaker. The unit recognizes your voice well and it has a ton of useful features. You can use it to set an alarm to wake you up in the morning, provide you with a briefing to start your day, listen to news and of course provide instruction to your google smart devices. I will not use it primarily to play songs, but you can always do that and for a speaker that small, you can’t really complaint about the bass, highs and mids.

Simplified WiFi to Boost Your Connected Home

With internet usage and connected home devices increasing so much in your typical household, the need for high quality routers have become more common. I believe that the best form of achieving this is through a mesh router system and Google has really made an achievement with their new Google Nest Wifi Mesh System. PROS: - The design of the router and the point are very appealing. Everything is smooth, seamless, and its meant to be that way. Google did this on purpose to encourage users to have them out in the open as opposed to tucked away. The router will work much better being out in the open so it’s a good choice to make them beautiful! - Set-Up was very easy. As expected, Google makes everything feel so simplified and straight forward. It was a clean process and I was very pleased with the set up! - This package features a Router and a Point, which is very common for mesh systems. The Router plugs in directly to your modem so that it gets the hard wired internet source. Then the Point can be placed elsewhere in the house and it just requires power. The system works together flawlessly and really provides a strong boost of internet across multiple levels of your home. It is worth noting that the "Point" isn't as strong as the Router, which seems obvious, but I had no issues as the Point delivered much stronger internet than I previously had to an almost dead internet area of my home. - The Point makes up for its subtle lack in power, by doubling as a Google Nest Speaker as well and it sounds great! Once again, this encourages you to place it out in the open but the speaker sounds great, has all the same functionality as a Google Nest Mini, and even has a colorful ring to it. - Lastly, Google really makes this WiFi very easy to manage and just makes it feel so much more accessible than any other WiFi system I have used. By integrating this into your Google Home App and Google Assistants, there are plenty of perks you enjoy. This includes checking connection speeds, setting up Guest networks, see what devices are on it, prioritize which devices are more important for WiFi, and even turn off WiFi for devices aka devices your kids are using. I also really enjoy that you can use a Google Smart Display device to show what your speed tests are or display password information easily. CONS: - The biggest complaint I foresee people having is that the router only has 2 Ethernet ports. One being for the input and one being for output. Sure there are ways around this issue but it would be nicer to have more ports. - At the time of this review, you really need two apps to access every feature for these routers: The Google Home app and the Google WiFi app. Eventually, Google will merge these two apps into one but for the time being you will have to have two apps if you really want to utilize all the features - although this isn't necessary. - This mesh system does not support WiFi 6. It seems odd considering WiFi 6 is moving forward as the latest and greatest in home consumer WiFi, but Google opted against including it in this system. BOTTOM LINE: - This system is an all-around win-win for home internet users. On one hand it can be simple and out of the way for you minimalists while providing easy controls when needed. On the other hand, it can be a welcomed addition to you heavy smart-home users by providing a well-integrated Mesh WiFi system that works so well with your other devices. Google knows how to make high quality products, with comfortable ease of use, at reasonable prices compared to what others offer - this Google Nest Mesh System is no exception and will keep you happy.

What an improvement these made to my wifi! My previous wifi router was not getting the job done. I was getting about 1/10th of the wifi speed I'm paying for. With the Google Nest Wifi Mesh system, I'm getting faster wifi than I'm paying for. I went from 10 Mbps to 115 Mbps and it's amazing. My smart TV would buffer and sometimes stop the stream on shows and movies, my laptop was frustrating to load pages or just emails. Not anymore. The photo attached is a speed test done on my wifi connected laptop which is as fast as the direct ethernet connection my son gets on his gaming desktop. Our cell phones, the PS4 and TV all show getting the same speeds on wifi. The router took a little bit to set up, the point was effortless. I bought a network switch to use with it as I have hubs for smart lights and cameras and the router has only one ethernet port other than the one that connects to the modem. It did take quite some time to get everything connected back up to the wifi but it was well worth it to get the speed. The router will detect the best way to connect. My smart lights connect via 2.4 only and there is no way to manually set it, but it was not a problem as it detected it automatically. I did have to unlink everything that was not Google, and relink them to get them connected. I've had no more buffering or getting kicked out of streaming. The Google Assistant Speaker works the same as the Google minis I have around the house, with better sound quality. I would recommend this system to anyone wanting to improve their wifi speeds.

I've been using the Nest Wi-Fi mesh router system for over a year now, and I'm incredibly impressed with it. It's the best mesh router system I've ever used, and it's perfect for my smart home. The Nest WiFi router and points are all very stylish and sleek. They blend in well with my décor, and they're not too big or bulky. The router and points are also very easy to set up and use. I was able to get the entire system up and running in less than 10 minutes. The Nest WiFi mesh router system provides excellent coverage throughout my home. I have a 3,000-square-foot home, and I have no problems getting a strong Wi-Fi signal in every room. The Nest Wifi system is also very fast and reliable. I've never had any problems with buffering or dropped connections. In addition to its excellent performance, the Nest Wi-Fi mesh router system also has a number of other features that I love. For example, the Nest Wi-Fi points can be used as smart speakers. This means that I can use them to control my smart home devices with Google Assistant. I can also use the Nest Wi-Fi app to see who's connected to my network, test my internet speed, and set up guest Wi-Fi networks. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the Nest WiFi mesh router system. It's the best mesh router system I've ever used, and it's perfect for my smart home. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful, reliable, and easy-to-use mesh router system.

This is what I was looking for to update an old, old, system in my home. The router and points are a good small size, they are mostly just neutral looking, and, most importantly, they just work. Setup for me was very easy, and I was up and running in a short time. I am more or less in the Google ecosystem, so this was a no brainer for me. The app is intuitive, and once you are all setup, everything just works, and everything can be done via the app. As I said, I am in the Google world, but I think this should be fine on the Apple side as well, but I can't really speak about the app there. Connectivity is great, range is never an issue, speeds are quick. That is all I was looking for. There may be more complicated systems out there, for those who want more control, or who want to delve into the minutiae of their networking, but for me, this was perfect.

Likes : Overall setup was easy to install and get it up and running. Compact and looks good Checking internet download and upload speed Testing point connectivity and its strength Dislikes 1) Nest point doesn't always connect back when there is a power cut. It happened twice where I need to go and physically unplug and plug the device back for it to come online. 2) I upgraded from first gen google wifi (google hub) and only after purchase I realized (or came to know) that google hub cannot be used as an additional point. 3) the new google home (wifi) app interface is good in some aspects but when it comes to pausing wifi devices, I felt old app was much more easy. For you to quickly pause a device, you should have configured it as a group and same device cannot be part of multiple groups. I wonder if the google folks even use this app for day to day stuff as they would have caught this by now. 4) Point connectivity doesnt show a scale to understand if moving it around from one room to another room improves the strength any better. Currently it shows "Great" but I dont know if this is the max that can be achieved or am I compromising by keeping it even farther.

Great WiFi coverage and fast speeds. Super simple management. It's well suited for most homes. My experience wasn't great. Initial setup was simple and worked perfectly fine out of the box. Everything stopped working after it's initial software update and a factory reset was all I could do to bring it back to life. It worked great after that until some internet problems I ran into weeks later. When internet connectivity drops, I'm not able to use the app to manage the devices. The only insight provided is a flashing yellow light on the unit. I got out my old wireless router and the internet started working again. Google phone support doesn't exist during the pandemic, so I didn't press this any further. Maybe it was a defective unit but this was anything but simple and straightforward for me.

I’ve had this for about a month and so far it’s good. Was a simple and quick set up. Worked with my spectrum modem which was a plus and didn’t need to go buy one. I’m getting roughly 300-500 upload wireless and wired I’m getting a consistent 400-500. Mind you I am paying for a 500 service. Pros: Easy set up Great consistent speed for all devices Mesh system works great Coverage is ok, from the “points” but great strength from the main router Cons for me: A little on the pricey side Speakers are iffy, ended up disabling mics as I’d rather use my google hubs Only 1 port on the router so you will need a switch if you like to plug in (kind of an annoyance they designed with just one...) Wish the points had a port to plug in devices as well (wish for one in future release *fingers crossed)

I studied the google mesh and the eero systems religiously before making this purchase. I live in a 5,000 square foot ranch model home (2500 upstairs / 2500 in basement). Home is 3 years old. Have been dealing with internet issues since day one. Constantly taking my phone on and off wifi, can't watch shows in bed on iPad, smart tv's having bad connection, slow speeds, etc. I was about to change internet providers but thought I should look into purchasing a mesh wifi system before making the change. The reasons I chose google over eero was I have a google home as well as the nest doorbell and I wanted to have everything running on the same system and the price was a little cheaper than the eero (i believe $50 cheaper but the eero system does come with security protection for web browsing). As soon as I installed the google nest wifi system (super easy to do) my results were IMMEDIATELY noticed. It was literally night and day!! This system supports two adults, three kids, 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2 smart tv's, playstation as well as a peloton bike AND WORKS FLAWLESSLY. It even INCREASED MY INTERNET SPEED! I am a HUGGGGGGGE believer in this product. My wifi works as it should and I don't get upset anymore paying for service that doesn't work like it should. I set up this system in my home about a month ago and have never even had to shut off the modem and turn it back on. Everything in my home works flawlessly. This is one of the best purchases I have made in years.....truly! Watching my DirecTV app on my iPad as well as other devices ALWAYS work flawlessly. I don't leave reviews but felt the need to so others could learn about my good experience with this product! I hope this helps many of you with your decision making when it comes to some of the same home internet problems I have been dealing with for the past 3 years.

    Great Mesh Wifi System

I have slowly brought more and more google smart home products into our home within recent years. They have all performed what I have asked them to well. I have started to notice that my old Asus RT-N66U was struggling to keep up with all of the wifi devices I had connected. Between my wife's laptop, our multiple smart tvs, the doorbell cameras and my son's tablet/switch, it would chug at times and reset. For six years that little router did his best. I was looking at mesh systems and the google wifi kept coming up as a nice option. I kept biding my time trying to limp the router along. Finally I retired the poor thing and picked up the Nest Wifi 2 pack. I have a ~2500 sq ft brick ranch home with a basement, and this seemed perfect. I was right. I have always setup my own routers and tweaked a lot of the settings. You cannot really do that with this router. That is ok for me, but might frustrate some who have specialized needs. Then again, if that is something you are looking for I bet you are not considering this. Anyway, setup was a breeze. Connect 3 cables, use the Google Home app to set it all up. Then take the point, set it somewhere out in the open and do the setup of that. The point is not only a part of the mesh system but also a google home speaker as well. Keep in mind that the base router unit is not a speaker however. The only bad thing I have found with this particular router is that it only has 1 ethernet out of the router and zero of them on the point. It works for me as it sits next to my gaming desktop with the modem and that is hardwired. The rest of the networking is wireless. Overall I am very happy. TL;DR: Great mesh system, ~10 install, simple router interface, single ethernet out, do recommend.

Fast, good coverage, easy to set up, each acts as a Google Home speaker which is nice (my old Google homes are in a closet collecting dust now lol). One gripe is one of the access points goes offline sometimes for no reason, I have reset it to factory and then re-added it to the mesh, it seems to fix the issue for a few months, but then occurs again. might be a dud. but it works for the most part.

Hi Danny, we're glad to hear that Nest Wifi is providing you with fast and reliable coverage for your home network, and that you had an easy time setting it up. We do apologize if one of the Nest Wifi Points goes offline for no reason. Resetting was also a great idea to try and fix the issue. However, if the offline issue is still persistent, then we may need to take a much closer look at the issue. I have had a few different routers over the years, most recently the Netgear R7000. I have a difficult house to cover due to where the cable line comes into the house (basement under HVAC ducts), walls in the way, and large house. I have the R7000 centrally located in the house using a CAT5 line originally there for phone. I have never had consistent coverage or consistent speed. I finally bought this Google Nest mesh system and kick myself for not doing it earlier. My cable provider gives me ~ 230MBs down and I never got that from the Netgear R7000 - it would be inconsistent, as high as 170 MBs and often as low as 10MBs. I assumed this was just the house and walls, etc. When I installed the Nest mesh, I actually wired it into the R700 so it was going through the Netgear to the cable modem - I did this to maintain my old wifi while converting and intended to switch to have the Nest directly wired. Once I plugged the Nest in, I have consistently gotten ~230MBs down which is even faster than I was getting from the R7000. I realized the Netgear was my problem. I bought the 3 pack of the Nest mesh as I assumed I needed it for the house. I could have gotten by with only 1 but there would have been some corners of the house that were slow. With a second on, I had full coverage everywhere in a 3 story 7,000 sq foot house. I installed the third because i had it but honestly did not need it. Easy to set up, amazing speed, and I have consistently tested the speed and it has consistently been 200-230 MBs down which I never got before.

very easy set up, with good coverage. I have one three pack for a 6,500sqft home, might need to grab one or two more to add on to provide better coverage but the three provide a signal through the entire house. If you are already bought into the Google Home line, this is an easy addon.

I love this system and it is super quality right down to the box it comes in. My home is a brick 3,500 sq' two story with a large attic. It is also foamed for insulation. Initially, I had considered getting the router and two points but ultimately decided to get the router and single point. I put the router central in the attic and the point down stairs in the living room with our TV and such. With that, I have complete coverage even in my shop which is about 30' away from the router. That shop is also bricked and foamed. I have a Blink home security system which was performing poorly with my old router and in part why I purchased the Nest system. It was greatly enhanced with the Nest system. The set up was super easy, can't imagine anyone having issue with it. The app is awesome and I can do everything on my phone. Soon, I'll be controlling lights and the thermostat with it. I just can't say enough good about it. And, I love talking to Google...."Hey Google........?"

So far so good. I'm partly impressed because my old router was dying and only letting out 3mbps of the 455 it was receiving from the modem. Incredibly frustrating. I'm good with tech, but even so, these things were cake to setup with the Google home app (we're Alexa people here and it was my first time using Google home). The mesh system works great-single wifi for everything and devices automatically connect between 2.4 and 5ghz networks. Don't know what that means? Even better, this device automatically finds the best way to connect you. Great system, highly recommended. Speeds are through the roof now. But it won't speed up your internet if the modem isn't getting a fast signal to begin with, so best to test that first! Just a PSA to folks.
