We were looking to extend our gigabit wifi coverage and already owned the previous generation Google Wifi mesh extenders, so I figured upgrading to the Google Nest Wifi made sense as the old version had served us well. These newer ones perform as advertised: stronger coverage over a wider area thanks to the updated hardware in the current units! We upgraded to whole home security cameras, so I wanted to ensure we didn’t see any dropouts or higher battery drain due to poor wireless speed/strength, and so far I’m happy to report they are working out great. A big positive for me was the hardware microphone mute for these units. Honestly I would have preferred being able to buy these without the built-in microphone/voice assistance feature just out of privacy concerns, but being able to disable it manually on the hardware itself and see the LEDs on the bottom of the points change to Orange/Red to show the mic is disabled once you flip the switch is handy. The biggest negative I have for these was that the setup was not flawless, and even required me to reach out to support as it wasn’t anything that could be fixed through standard troubleshooting like power cycling or doing a factory reset and redoing the network setup from scratch. The other issue I had was trying to add my old google wifi units as access points since their documentation notes the old ones could still be used as long as you didn’t try to exceed their recommended “limit” of having no more than 5 access points connected to a single router. After factory resetting the older units and trying to add them to the mesh network, I noticed considerable issues with signal degradation as it seemed like it was actually introducing interference rather than boosting signal coverage in other areas of the house. The new Google Home app that lets you control/monitor your network is pretty good overall as well, aside from returning a lot of “Unnamed Device” names for the hardware found on our network - I don’t recall the old “Google Wifi” app having the same issue. Slight negatives aside, I am still quite pleased with the newer Google Nest Wifi mesh router and access points - the speeds are solid, they transmit fairly well throughout the walls and home in general, and aside from the initial setup hiccups, they’ve been performing flawlessly ever since. Overall, I’d highly recommend the Nest Mesh router/points system and since the rating system doesn’t allow it, I’d note that if possible I’d give this one 4.5 stars out of 5.

Everything runs smooth however being that the 1st gen had ethernet ports at each access point and this gen dont, is a bummer. Could really use that feature to make this product flawless. That and adding more to the router base would help. Overall happy with this purchase. Does what it says. Extends your connection. And also it has features like priority device, and also allows you to pretty much be the admin for your network capabilities.

I like the device and how it has more than one functionality. It has speaker abilities and smart options that make it a great addition to my home. One thing I will say is that I enabled the feature that lowers your tv when Google is prompted to speak. When it is operating as it should the sound is raised, reverting to the previous volume. However, often times it will be triggered by a random utterance on tv and the sound will stay low. Not a big issue as I could turn the feature off and it is not the main focus of the Wi-Fi mesh. Most times when devices have a lot of features there will be quirks, so it is not a deal breaker. The Wi-Fi is boosted in my home and can reach all rooms. I only experienced a few issues with the mesh saying the connection was bad via the Google home app, which I believe may be related to my internet service provider.

My system is rather complex: a high end home theater system including 2 TVs, 2 Apple TV 4Ks, Roku, Blu-Ray player, & pre amp all connected to a 16 port TCP Link Ethernet switch. My ISP is AT&T Fiber. All of my my AV equipment is on a rack in a closet and this has created a WiFi 'dead spot' in my main viewing room since the AT&T router/modem is also on the AV rack in the closet. Enter Google Nest. I've had the Nest Wifi for over a month. Initial setup is a breeze. I installed the Home app on my iPhone and there were no issues. Voice command setup went well too. I have it placed on my kitchen counter next to my HT room and, as advertised, it provides a separate network. No more dead spot. I leave all the other HT devices connected ethernet using the AT&T Router network and I mainly use my laptop on the Google network. The connection is stable, and with all the other devices connected on the other network, there's no lag at all. I have a Sirius subscription and it is easy to link the account with Nest to stream thought it as well, which I use all the time. Now the bad part: After about two weeks of use out of the blue, the Point was no longer recognizing ANY of my voice commands. I would ask it play channel number *** on Sirius and it would reply "I'm sorry, I don't recognize that artist. It was like I was speaking a different language, NOTHING was making sense from this device anymore. Out of frustration, the only thing I could do was a factory reset of the Router & Point. Since then, things have been back to where they were before. However, many times while it is streaming either Sirius or my favorite Internet radio station, it will stop on it's own for no reason. There is still a connection when this is happening because I am using my laptop at the same time on the same network without issues. This happens quite a lot. Overall, I would say this a great WiFi nest and a so-so device for streaming for the reasons I mentioned.

Indeed you have a massive house (over 2500 sq ft) or have a bunch of brick walls, the 2-pack version is probably enough. We purchased this over the Netgear Orbi for is contact design, ability to have Google Assistant and the fact we have a bunch or text that runs through the Google Home app. Pretty easy to set up and the wifi is solid.

If you are still using the wifi router provided to you by your internet service provider, chances are (unless you live in a very small house or apartment), that you are not completely happy with your wifi performance. Your signal can be strong in one room, and non-existent in the next. You may wish to sit “here”, but you can’t get a signal unless you move a few feet over “there”, where you don’t want to sit. You may have tried wifi repeaters or extenders in the past, but they basically just create a second network in your home with slow speeds and similar dead zones, forcing you to switch back and forth. Enter the Google Nest wifi router and “point” (what they call an extender). These small, semi/almost round devices that can fit in your hand create what’s called a “mesh” system where by connecting the Google router to your existing router, you can transfer the wifi functions to it, allowing it to send out stronger signals in both the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz frequencies simultaneously. The “point(s)” (very slightly smaller than the router itself) are set in other areas of your home, picking up the signal from the main Google router, and boosting them even further. Nicer still, they do not create a separate network in the same way older models do, but instead, extend the one you have. If you buy a pair (one being the main router and the other the point device), you have three choices of colors, but the router is always white – the point comes in three colors… Mist (a very pale blueish color), Sand (which to me looks Pink), and Snow (white). For large homes, you can also get a router and two points sets. You need to install the appropriate Google Home app to set the system up, and instructions for doing so are simple and included in the app, which works on Apple devices and Android. Provided there are no unforeseen hiccups, you should be up and running within minutes. I know a couple of other people with these devices aside from myself, and one of them did not even need the extra access point – the Google router alone provided stronger and faster wifi than their older one did. One of them has a multi-level home and they did use the point on another level, which did boost speeds and reliability in that area. For myself, the router speed dropped off once it reached the other side of the single level ranch style house, but the overall STRENGTH of it was stronger than my older model… no dead spots. Side-note: Your access point should you decide to use it, also doubles as a Google Assistant device, where you can ask it a variety of questions, control lights, and more with the appropriate equipment. I do recommend this system, but there is one warning involved – if you have some types of security cameras, doorbells, and devices that ONLY run on a 2.4 ghz frequency, some people can have an issue where they won’t connect, or they won’t stay connected, to a mesh system like this because it transmits on both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz at the same time. They get confused it seems. Now, RING (doorbells, cameras, etc) tech support can walk you through how to get around this. If you are lucky (very lucky) you can get a tech at ARLO to do this, too. Your success will vary and you may have to make more than one call if you do run into this issue, so just be prepared knowing that you MIGHT have to do this to ensure all of your devices work with it. Waving a finger at these other device makers though, they need to get with it and update their devices to work on all wifi frequencies, and better be able to detect, connect to, and maintain connection to, mesh networks. It’s not always the router’s fault – many times it’s the device makers not keeping their devices updated, and one rep with one of these companies even admitted to me they are behind in catching up to working with mesh networks. My one big complaint about the router itself, and it is a big one as others have pointed out, is that the Google router only has one “out” ethernet port on the back for extra devices. That’s it. Camera systems like Arlo require you plug their own hub into one of these. Perhaps you have smart bulbs that come with a small hub as well that need a port, or home phone service, etc. In my opinion, there really is NO excuse for Google only putting one extra ethernet port on this device. Just be aware of this because if you have various things that you currently have plugged directly into your old modem, you may need extra equipment if you are going to use this one to replace it entirely – and the point device has NO ethernet ports. It’s for this reason I won’t give this 5 stars, and really, would drop it to 3 ½ if I could. Yeah – big booboo, Google. Otherwise, yes, it’s a reliable system for those willing to do the tech call work to perhaps get some of their devices to work with it. But you will most likely be rewarded with a stronger wifi signal over greater ranges.

I've been using the Google Nest WiFi system purchased from Best Buy for several months now, and overall, I am very satisfied with its performance. The setup was straightforward, and the coverage throughout my home is excellent. The speed and reliability of the connection have significantly improved compared to my previous router. However, there are a couple of minor issues worth mentioning. During power outages, the system sometimes doesn't reconnect automatically, requiring a manual restart. Additionally, one of the access points occasionally needs to be restarted to maintain a stable connection. Despite these small inconveniences, the Google Nest WiFi system is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their home network. The user-friendly interface, combined with the strong and consistent coverage, makes it a great investment. I highly recommend it, with just a bit of patience for the occasional restart.

Likes : Overall setup was easy to install and get it up and running. Compact and looks good Checking internet download and upload speed Testing point connectivity and its strength Dislikes 1) Nest point doesn't always connect back when there is a power cut. It happened twice where I need to go and physically unplug and plug the device back for it to come online. 2) I upgraded from first gen google wifi (google hub) and only after purchase I realized (or came to know) that google hub cannot be used as an additional point. 3) the new google home (wifi) app interface is good in some aspects but when it comes to pausing wifi devices, I felt old app was much more easy. For you to quickly pause a device, you should have configured it as a group and same device cannot be part of multiple groups. I wonder if the google folks even use this app for day to day stuff as they would have caught this by now. 4) Point connectivity doesnt show a scale to understand if moving it around from one room to another room improves the strength any better. Currently it shows "Great" but I dont know if this is the max that can be achieved or am I compromising by keeping it even farther.

Though the advertised distance is 5400 sqft, even in a 2500 sqft home, the wifi speeds will drop. Given a gigabit connection, you will be seeing around 300-400 mbps everywhere as long as they are properly spaced and connected correctly. Getting 1 gbps from the ethernet is also pretty uncommon. It's only around 800-950 mbps at best. (I have since replaced item with a TP Link system and it works significantly better with zero service change)

I’ve had this for about a month and so far it’s good. Was a simple and quick set up. Worked with my spectrum modem which was a plus and didn’t need to go buy one. I’m getting roughly 300-500 upload wireless and wired I’m getting a consistent 400-500. Mind you I am paying for a 500 service. Pros: Easy set up Great consistent speed for all devices Mesh system works great Coverage is ok, from the “points” but great strength from the main router Cons for me: A little on the pricey side Speakers are iffy, ended up disabling mics as I’d rather use my google hubs Only 1 port on the router so you will need a switch if you like to plug in (kind of an annoyance they designed with just one...) Wish the points had a port to plug in devices as well (wish for one in future release *fingers crossed)

The Google Nest works great. I have the router and 2 points. The router I have in the living room and the points are in the far bedroom and the garage. I get great coverage throughout the house and it also covers my entire 3/4 lot. The one thing that surprises me is the point in the bedroom is about 40' away and through 3 walls and has great connectivity with the router. The point in the garage is about 30' away and through 2 walls and has poor connectivity. Even so it still works and has great speed. Triple my old router. Overall a real good product and easy to set up.

Fast, good coverage, easy to set up, each acts as a Google Home speaker which is nice (my old Google homes are in a closet collecting dust now lol). One gripe is one of the access points goes offline sometimes for no reason, I have reset it to factory and then re-added it to the mesh, it seems to fix the issue for a few months, but then occurs again. might be a dud. but it works for the most part.

Hi Danny, we're glad to hear that Nest Wifi is providing you with fast and reliable coverage for your home network, and that you had an easy time setting it up. We do apologize if one of the Nest Wifi Points goes offline for no reason. Resetting was also a great idea to try and fix the issue. However, if the offline issue is still persistent, then we may need to take a much closer look at the issue. This system is super easy to setup through the google home app. The wireless access points are also google assistants which means they are voice activated. I did however have to turn off the voice activation because it did not seem to work well with all my google home minis I have. They seemed to not be able to decide who was going to do the action I requested so they kind of cancelled each other. Turning the mic off on these units has fixed that. You may not have this issue though if you don’t have other voice powered google devices. Using the google Wifi app, you can see what devices are connected to which access point. The one downfall is if you want anything hardwired there is only one LAN Ethernet plug on the base hub, so you will need to get a cheap switch if you want things plugged in via Ethernet. I have had no problems with connections. They are in three separate rooms with no direct view and are getting a “great” mesh connection, which is the best you can get. I consistently am getting my full internet speeds from all access points when testing. You will definitely want your streaming devices over 5ghz, so if you have the option to pick on your device, please set it to 5ghz. I usually keep all my smart devices on the 2ghz. Keep in mind that google WiFi app does not give you the option of picking what frequency or what access point your devices connect to or with. There are a ton of family features, guest WiFi, etc. overall, I’ve had no problems with this at all and it works very well across my 30+ devices.

We set these up but it took over an hour to figure out. We've had them for over a year. They worked great at first but we're going to buy one more dot because we think it will solve our outdoor TV streaming situation. Currently it works 80% of the time without an issue and we have a dot outside next to the TV so we think putting another dot in the kitchen will help the connection. My modem is in the closet in my master bedroom, I placed a dot in the garage where my office is, and another dot in the living room and out in my patio. I need one more in the kitchen (i think) to make them all connect smoothly. My house is small (1800 SqFt) so I'm not sure if it's the old 1950's walls or why 3 dots are not enough.

I got this as I originally had a Netgear Triband Router upstairs in combo with a TP Link RE450 extender downstairs to improve the signal to my TV on the other side of the house. While I had decent wifi coverage through the house with that combo, I was occasionally having streaming issues with the TV. I heard that mesh systems were better designed for such problems. After reading various reviews of different systems, I opted for this one as it tended to have the best reviews given my situation. This router/mesh system was super easy to set up. However, Google Home doesn't help you much with placement of the Wifi points. I had to use NetSpot on my phone to measure signal strength at different points in the house. You'll want to make sure that the points aren't too far from the router, otherwise you won't have a good enough connection between the router and the points. You'll want to have your router somewhat centrally located in your house if you can. Unfortunately I can't do that in my house, so I had the router upstairs in my office on one end of the house, one point almost directly beneath in the kitchen (and with a clean line of sight to the family room/TV), and then one point in a corner of the master bedroom. It can take some time and experimentation to find the optimal points for your situation, even though setup itself of the system is fairly quick. With the new system, I was getting a better signal and speed at the TV. However, connection strength was still a bit spotty despite no obstacles in the way of the Wifi point. The TV would often connect to the 5 GHz signal, which tends to die off rapidly with distance. Sometimes the Google Home app would tell me that the connection between the TV and the Wifi point was only OK or even weak. I eventually opted to set up a MOCA adapter on my cable outlet instead (see my review of the ActionTec MOCA 2.5 Network Adapter at Best Buy). I'm still keeping the mesh system even though it didn't 100% solve my TV problem, as I like having the built in Google assistant, and the 3-pack does provide better coverage of my 2200 sq ft house than my old system did. If you get this, you'll most likely like it, but don't expect magic. The Wifi point signals are weaker than the router (the router provides up to 2200 sq ft of coverage, while the points only do 1600, and real world performance is going to be significantly less than these). Overall happy with it but nothing amazing.
