I can't recommend to NOT buy this product enough. There is no way to tell if it's connected and working in your home, the app that it has you download is faulty at best, and down right criminal at worst. Calling the customer support to get help my extender losing connection every day resulted in a confirmation that the app is only meant for setup, but on the app store and on the product instructions that come with the product it confirms its supposed to be used to manage the use of the product. On top of that the customer support is absolutely worthless, both calling in and with their chat support. They're third party, as is everyone these days, but after spending hours with multiple of them they have don't even have the decency to check what product you bought from netgear; one rep I had literally copy and pasted the support from their customer support page (I'm online and asking for help netgear, obviously I've already googled quick fixes and they don't work). When this thing works, it works great, the issue though is the app tells you you lose connection every hour or so, and the PC setup website you go through also doesn't confirm when the extender is working and when your router stops utilizing the extender. This is the first netgear product I've ever used, and it will be the last; cherry on top of this interaction was being told by their third party customer support over the phone (they use a vpn to make it seem like they're in California but I got the rep to admit he was in India) that he couldn't help me and to call netgears business centers directly (not the number they provide you) if I needed continued support. For your sanity, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Really difficult to set up. Not user friendly. Never could get my device(s) to connect. This is the second Netgear extender we've tried. No more Netgear for us. I gave up and bought a MUCH simpler and cheaper extender which was easy to set up, connects to my devices and works like a charm.

Ran set-up with WPS, which was pretty effortless and seemed to go well. The problem is once the extender was plugged into new location several of the devices that had been on the network could not connect. It appears password is not recognized. So, as it is,the extender is much worse than worthless. Netgear provides free support for a limited time. The problem is that it took 45 minutes to connect to telephone support. He could not help, but that was my fault because I have mobility trouble. We'll keep trying.

Repackaged used & faulty wi-fi equipment

I bought this as sealed new unit and went to configure it and it had someone else’s network name on it, not the new default SSID network name. Unit had a hard time picking up the base main network unless it was nearly next to the transmitter. I am an IT pro that installs commercial equipment and this failed miserably. BB only has a 15 day return policy so we ate the unit. This unit was re-packaged faulty used wi-if equipment. This is just another reason I use commercial wi-if equipment in my home. Very Deceptive on Netgears part. I cannot in good faith recommend this nor will I buy retail junk again. I originally bought this to bring an ethernet connection to a industrial piece of equipment for a tech who flew in from the UK to configure the industrial equipment what a disaster this was. All other devices around the equipment had a strong wi-fi signal from the main wi-fi network except the Netgear extender. Was red with no connection. Very costly mistake, never again will trust retail junk or manufacturers like this.

Setting this up with the nighthawk app to connect to my nighthawk router was an absolute nightmare. The app froze several times. I had to reach out to Netgear customer support twice. Once it was setup . It took my entire 2.4 ghz band down at least twice a day. The idea a range extender could tank a signal tells me all I need to know. When this was actually " working " it did nothing at all. In fact when it was powered on it would often take out my security cameras 20 feet away. My system is more reliable without it.

Had a horrible time setting this up. If you have bad connection, it will just spread bad connection. After a week it would just disconnect or turn off randomly.Returned it and got a ASUS AX5400 Dual Band Router instead.

Explained out service to clerk in store. This is what was recommended. We have fought with this item and worked with netgear. It does not work with ADSL lines. Stopped the internet totally. Product may work well in other situations but not this.

I was advised by my cable company to purchase for a better price than they could offer an extender or repeater to get internet to other end of my house. Went to Best to make sure I was getting right product and came away with NightHawk for $100+. I spent two different evenings trying to get it to connect and it never worked. Not one number or email help desk to be found on paper work or box. I also checked online. No different instructions and no help desk number. Since it had a 15 day return policy, I did not need a $100 paper weight and returned it back to store. They really should have instructions for those of us who try to be handy but really only understand the basics.

Easy to set up but that’s the only good thing about this product. Doesn’t increase the range all that much and keeps randomly knocking every device that is connected to my network off causing me to have to re-connect them.

Based on the title, I thought it would pickup my wi-fi and increase the signal, extending the wifi range. NOPE. You need a cable from your router. Since I already have a wifi router, this item is useless.

Bought this device with intent to extend my home WiFi out into my lawn area...oh boy did this device fail miserably. It failed to work with Netgear app as described in their quick start pamphlet...(please note Netgear is notoriously known to fail when it comes to making things easy for a customer..they pretend to have it right when in reality they are a failure, to a seamless setup..especially if your are a novice or infrequent user), then I called their support and spent two hours, at of which support said that I should return the device and get a refund. They also advised me to get their latest generation WiFi 6 extenders or the ones with four big antennas and avoid this product. So I did exactly that and I am happy with their Netgear WiFi 6 extender.

did not deliver what was promised - while my Wifi was not the strongest upstairs, i never experienced drop outs and buffering issues before. After installing this, Netflix, Sling, Sonos, etc all had issues. Also, the laptop did not increase speed online I unplugged it last night to bypass it and just use my normal Wifi and no buffering, no drops, and speed is the same on the laptop online - I gave it the good 'ol college try and now I am past my return date so now I am out $160.00. Would highly NOT recommend this product to anyone.

So far, this has been a huge disappointment. For the first few days, everything seemed great. It not only doesn't connect as it should, it frequently knocks my devices off WiFi and I have to go to my router and away from this device to get back on the network. Repeated efforts to reinstall, etc., have not helped. Right now it's unplugged and I am likely to return this. I have a suspicion my Spectrum router is part of the problem. If things straighten out, I will edit this review into something more positive.

Netgear makes good products. The problem with this one was it was in a box identified as an AC1900 but the item was labeled as an AC1700. The serial numbers matched but when installed the Netgear app recognized it as AC1700. I returned it.
