This piece of technology has absolutely changed my perspective on playing Call of Duty online.
Just to give you some of my experiences and if you play Call of Duty or maybe any other online game that you would feel what I'm telling you right now.
There's times that you join a Lobby and it's okay, you kill people, they kill you nothing funky, no lag spikes but after two, three matches suddenly you can't kill anyone and when you shoot somebody that's all they do is run away from you.
And then there's those games where you're in a great lobby but you have to go get something to eat or you have to run some errands and you come back and you join another game and you can't kill anyone or you feel behind when you shoot your weapon.
The best part is when you get shot you feel like you just been melted by the bullets but when you try to shoot someone it takes a lot of bullets.
The xr300 removes the bad part of online video games, don't get me wrong since you're playing on a better connection so is the other guy in the other side of the TV.
I live in South Florida, Coral Springs 30 minutes from Miami. Let me tell you something that has opened my eyes about this geofliter. I'm playing Black Ops 4 right now and the local nearest dedicated server is Chicago or New York City.
This thing allows me to set my distance of 500 miles and I'm actually connecting to peer host people with the lowest ping possible.
The geofilter shows you on screen what hosts are on and what your ping is on that host.
So far it's working for me. I'm playing on the best connections I've ever played in the last 8 months with Black Ops 4 and I'm Blown Away. Hopefully it keeps it up and it doesn't let me down and I'm looking forward to the new Modern Warfare.
Here's a tip when I was installing the Netgear xr300 it was trying to update but it just kept freezing and it wouldn't update on my PC, so I had to download the app and finish the installation through the app.
If you have a lot of people in your house make sure you go to settings> Lan and reserve your IP to your Xbox or your PlayStation so you have no conflict with or IP addresses.
The best part about this is the Qos. I can actually make the priority of the connection go to my Xbox.
So if you have people watching Hulu or Netflix or your little brother trying to play Smash Brothers in the other room you can kind of hog the entire connection.
If you do decide to buy this through Best Buy make sure you get the 2-year Geek Squad warranty because I was reading on Amazon and people were complaining that they're Netgear went out with an 8 months.
Now there's just a couple things that I noticed when trying to connect to other Peer host.
Most people play Team Deathmatch in Call of Duty but I was looking for a domination match but I couldn't find one the first day trying the xr300 because there was no host hosting that game mode. But the second day I was able to find few host for domination.
And only a couple times I had to wait at least 5 minutes to wait for a host available then I can join the lobby. When the host is available you'll see like a little person and that means that it's ready to go and join the match. But once you're in the lobby and just stay and play as many games as you can.
Now here's the thing with ping AKA latency.
If your ISP already has high ping during peak hour, there's really nothing much you can do about that with the xr300.
The Xbox usually Ping's to the Seattle server and my ping fluctuates from 58 to about 90.
But now that I'm connecting to someone 500 miles away I really don't notice that high ping.
But you can control the quality of service on who gets what in your house that Hogs up your bandwidth because that will raise up your ping when you're playing online games.
Overall I think it's a pretty neat technology that will help you connect two players that are alot closer to you for the best possible connection.
Good luck.

Stunts Spectrum Speeds

Our modem was giving us 200 Mbps, but this router knocked those speeds to 130 Mbps, which only made our devices run slower and lag much more than before. So much for "Pro Gaming".
The customization settings are great, especially the QoS, but that's pretty much useless when your speeds are gutted like that.
Please, someone, anyone, tell me I'M doing something wrong.

Have been using the router for a month now and it has been great for gaming. Love that ability to control my ping threshold and only play on low latency servers. Wired connections were great and very impressed with wifi gaming as well. No sign of lag with over 30 devices connected to my network. Definitely great gaming router.

Great entry level pro router

This is a great entry level pro router with a robust and feature packed GUI, DUMOos that is great in my opinion. Lot's of features and customizability, especially tailored for gamers or someone who requires/want's full control of their network. I install these in all my friends networks that I help with.
Just remember this is an entry level router, so if you're powering a big household, gaming consoles, streaming, pc's, tablets, smart gadget's, tv's, appliances, and other connected devices, this is not the router for you, get the xr500 or newer models. This xr300 is ideal for smaller home networks and apartments, with a reasonable device count for 2/3 people.

Great router once you get it going. But it is a bear to set up. Tried using the smartphone app and gave up. To me, the best way to set this up is to connect with an ethernet cable and walk through it manually.

Horrible documentation and setup process

I downloaded the app and followed all directions. The device did not work. I called for tech support, was on hold for 20 min, but the advisor had a very heavy accent, and also a loud hum on the line. I notified her about the hum, and she put me on hold - another 12 minutes to wait. TOTALLY too long wait times. The second advisor I reached helped me fix the problem, but it took resetting the router three times. The instructions that come with the router are minimal. Basically, no instructions other than to download the app. I can't understand why this doesn't just work out of the box like Amplifi router I bought for me home last week.

As a Long Time broadBand Engineer I found the Operating system on this router robust enough for my needs and easy enough for the layman to set it up with out help! Will be using the router more over the next year! And would suggest it for a medium cost router fast enough for 15 devices pleasantly surprised!

Worst customer service and product

There is a reason this product was only around for a short period, it never worked well and NETGEAR won't support it without purchasing a service contract even though it's brand new. I have had this router for only a few months and it started crashing more and more frequently. Spectrum changed out all cables and modem so I knew everything was fine on my end. I called NETGEAR customer service multiple times and would show the router dropping and rebooting while we were on the call and they still would NOT troubleshoot unless you purchase the contract. They would even say it's working fine on their end!! I could barely understand what the CS person was saying and they just send you links on their forum. I did factory resets and updated all software, and still would reboot. If you do want help from the company it’s $85 to pay for help. I've used NETGEAR for many years and will never again. I got a new Router from Spectrum and it works perfectly. Don’t waste your money on NETGEAR.

I have had this router for less than a year. The new version of firmware made the whole thing crash. I had to downgrade my firmware just so I could have internet. I called customer service and even though my router is running a 1/3 of its capacity and it’s not because of my internet company itself they will not do a replacement. They also will not trouble shoot with you instead the stear you towards an online forum. Unless you have hours to look for your exact problem is useless. If you do want help from the company it’s 85 bucks to pay for help. Which I didn’t do because I spent over 100 bucks in hardware hoping it would last me more than a year. Don’t buy it. I honestly wish I could go back in time and buy something else. Also I will mention I had this router in a 750 sqft apartment it sucked there and when I moved into my house it just double sucked. Don’t waste your money unless you want the headache and if you want it come buy mine honestly I might just give it to you.
