The HP OMEN is an impressive piece of machinery. (But can it run Crysis)? :) This is a mid-range gaming computer so keep this in mind when reading this review. I mean the MSRP is $1,049 so you will find cheaper and you will find more expensive gaming PCs in the market. When dealing with computers, you can almost always go bigger, faster, add accessories/memory/ram/space/etc., or cool more. However, the questions you should ask are “will this PC satisfy my gaming needs?” also “will it play today’s games well?” And “does it have all the accessories I need, in order to game the way I want to game?” If you can build your own computer, you will probably ask, “can I build one for less with better or equal specs?” Well, while reviews are obviously subjective, I will try to give you the facts, details, and insight into the gaming I performed. PACKAGE: This computer came well packaged with heavy-duty black Styrofoam. The PC was also well wrapped with a fabric cover. The PC comes with a wired keyboard and mouse. This is just a regular digital keyboard and a standard regular mouse. PC DETAILS: The PC is large and feels heavy, though that’s of course relative. I weighed it at 27lbs without any accessories. The nice thing is that it has a very well-placed handle right on the upper side of it, which allows for easy carry. The handle is indented so there is nothing sticking out. It’s basically a hole near the front of the PC so it doesn’t ruin the design of this aesthetically beautiful PC. However, based on the weight I don’t know if this is a PC you’d want to take to LAN parties often. The dimensions of this HP OMEN are: 17.5 in tall x 19 in deep x 8 in wide, but keep in mind that it does not have a rectangular shape. The front is pointed, and the vertical middle is the front-most point. The front OMEN emblem glows red, and there is also a red light near the bottom front, illuminating the floor on which the PC rests. A good feature included is a side-panel release button. It makes removing the side-panel a breeze, yet it feels very secure when it’s closed. The sides of the top have a carbon-fiber look. It is quite an aggressive looking PC, and all about the design yells “GAMING PC!” On the front upper side, it has 2 ports for easy in and out internal hard drives. You would screw the hard drive As far as ports go, the OMEN has the following: HP 3-in-1 Media Card Reader, 6 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0 Type-C, HDMI out, and 3 DisplayPorts! My particular configuration comes with the following software and hardware: Windows 10 McAfee LiveSafe free for 1 year 25GB of free dropbox for 1 year HP Orbit: Share your content between mobile and PC instantly over WiFi OMEN Command Center: easy to use overclocking and optimizes your network performance! AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics card with 4 GB GDDR5 dedicated memory DTS Headphone: X: Produces spatially accurate 3D sound through any headphones for immersive sound 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM memory (1x8GB) 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive Wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2x2) and Bluetooth 4.2 DVD-Writer For my particular tests, I ran Rise of the Tomb Raider, as I owned it and was curious to see what it ran on this PC. The game is particular has a benchmark test and it gives some numbered results to get a decent idea as to what to expect for the FPS numbers. Additionally, I had the command center open to give me a reading on the CPU, GPU, and the memory. I also grabbed some numbers on the temperatures. The OMEN is a very well-ventilated PC (as it should be), since these pushing these processors will cause them to get very HOT. I ran probably like 50 benchmark tests on many different settings so I’ll sum it up with my overall findings. With everything maxed out and while playing the game, the GPU temp got up to 85 degrees Celsius. When running the benchmark, the GPU was usually about 70c-80c. If running a game, I recommend vsync at least at “double buffered” because I did see some screen tearing without it. In Tomb Raider, the benchmark runs 3 different scenes which get progressively more demanding on the graphics and hardware. The first one is a Mountain Peak, the second one is Syria (a cave with waterfalls), and the third one is a Geothermal Valley with lots of foliage, trees, and shadows. The benchmark ran frames per second. One of the most demanding items on the GPU is the anti-aliasing. I found that going over SSAA 2x on this processor caused a decline in FPS. At SSAA 4x I saw FPS average 35fps. At SSAA2x, it was more like 45-60, and with SMAA and double buffered vsync, I was getting in the 60s typically without any noticeable decrease in visuals, so I left it there. Additionally, I used the OMEN Command Center and overclocked by 1 point (default is 128x and I pushed it up to 129x). I didn’t want to overdo it for now but I did slowly get up to 134x after some time, but I didn’t notice an increase in performance so I lowered it to 129x again. (If you aren’t familiar with overclocking, please be careful as you may damage components if not done properly). For one, it can make the components overheat, but most likely it will just crash and you’ll have to reset your pc. I will say however, that HP has made it very easy to overclock this machine, and if done properly, you may be able to get some positive results. As it comes, I didn’t need overclocking as the performance was already there, so I was more tinkering with it to try it out. Here are 3 tests on different settings. The biggest load factor being anti-aliasing. The last one is at SSAA 2x and Vsync double-buffered. MP: 45.60, 51.04, 74.28 Syria: 31.90, 43.57, 59.25 Gthvly: 32.54, 43.01, 60.54 Overall: 36.94, 46.21, 64.69 Also, just for your info, I have it connected to 2 monitors (1 IPS) set to 60hz refresh rate. What can I say? Overall, the HP OMEN PC delivers where it needs. It is well-built, beautifully designed, and powerful enough for at least several years of gaming. A bit disappointed that it’s basically just the PC and a regular kb and mouse, but that just means you’ll have to get yourself the gaming devices you prefer! And I’m sorry, but I don’t know if the OMEN runs Crysis as I didn’t try it, but I DO RECOMMEND THIS PC!

SUMMARY: This easily upgradable mid-range system features specs great for driving modern AAA gaming titles, VR and Windows Mixed Reality, as well as your favorite CAD and modeling softwares. Over the past week I've run this PC through everything that I could possible use it for. I regularly play League of Legends with friends and was looking for a dedicated desktop to move away from my laptop. Additionally, I do regular CAD modeling for personal projects and was intrigued in using it as a workstation as well. Finally, I was looking into getting into VR and Windows Mixed Reality. I'm happy to say that this desktop will be a great midrange option for a lot of people with different needs - more on this later! DESIGN The OMEN came in well packaged in a large box with the chassis itself wrapped in a nice black plastic like cloth to protect it. HP is clearly working to dress up the OMEN as a more premium brand and it shows in the first impression. The tower itself has some unique features and styling, namely the aggressive angular front with red LED lights and OMEN branding. There is a fake carbon fiber plastic pattern which seems a bit chintzy up close, but I suspect might go unnoticed by many. There are 2 USB type C connections on the front of the PC, which is great to see and handy for those of use (such as myself) who already have a growing collection of type C cables. Additionally, there are 2 externally accessible hard drive bays which hide under two flaps, which I’m sure the power-users who requires multiple hard drives with appreciate. One thing that surprised me was the keyboard and mouse they included with the computer. While it is convenient that they include this with the tower, they are the typical bottom of the line HP mouse and keyboard that come with many of their systems – not something that a gamer would use. It’s a little thing, but I think it would make a big difference if they included a special branded OMEN peripheral set or maybe leave it out of the box entirely. HARDWARE The internals look great and fit in with many mid-range gaming PC specs, though the price is the real winner here. The Ryzen processor in this computer uses the AM4 socket which they are sticking with for the next several years meaning you'll be able to upgrade this in the future with no worries of compatibility. There is 8 GB of RAM in this computer and HP was very nice to put a single 8 GB stick taking up 1 of the 4 RAM slots. This means you can easily upgrade to 32 GB without having to throw 2-4 GB sticks in a drawer. The SSD module and everything else inside is very standard and replaceable if you so desired to do any upgrades. My current setup is 3 - 1080P monitors. The system is capable of supporting 3 monitors but I was only able to use 2 monitors due to my only having a single HDMI to DisplayPort adapter. USE As I described at the beginning of my review, I had a wide breadth of needs that I was trying to fill with this computer. Below I talk about my setup for the different scenarios so that you can easily decide if this fits the bill for your needs. The monitors I use are only 1080P - 60 Hz, so in gaming situations I'm capped in terms of framerate and resolution. GAMING I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I play games like League of Legends and the occasional AAA title like Fallout 4 and Call of Duty. In League of Legends at 1080P I was able to run at a full 60FPS with high detail on all settings and the game ran without any hick-ups. Fallout 4 on good quality proved a piece of cake, though the title is showing its age against newer more demanding titles. Running the game on ultra cause the frame rate to drop in some instances when a lot was happening on screen. MIXED REALITY I recently purchased a Windows Mixed Reality headset, specifically the Samsung HMD Odyssey. I'm happy to say that the OMEN handled Microsoft's default cliffside house environment and couple games I played with ease at a very much needed stable frame rate in/around 90 Hz. Unfortunately, I have yet to test any SteamVR games, but my suspicion based on my initial experiences is that they will also run well. CAD I regularly use Autodesk Inventor, Altium Designer, and Blender - many times simultaneously. While the graphics card makes using these intensive programs an absolute breeze compared to the laptop that I had been using the 8 GB standard RAM poses some issues when you want to drive several of these at a time. Mostly likely if you are driving multiple intensive applications in addition to a web browser in which you keep multiple tabs open you might want to buy a 2nd 8GB RAM stick to give yourself some extra wiggle room. Overall, the rendering speeds improved tremendously over my laptop and significantly improved my workflow and ability to get projects done. WRAP-UP Based on my findings if you describe yourself as a casual to moderately serious gamer or have a need for a well priced CAD system (with side gaming intentions) this HP OMEN desktop will do the job and serve your well. While many might want to look into upgrading the default 8GBs of RAM, it will be sufficient for most. Overall, a great value for the money that can get the game (or job) done!

The design of the Case is perfect for any gamers needs. I love the option of a dual drive bay opening on the front, this allows you to install drives without opening the case!! (Which is easy and requires no tools) The usb, DVD, SD reader are all in optimal areas. The exterior Red lighting is quite cool as well. The video card has 3 display ports, 1 hdmi and an optic port. PERFECT!! If you have a VGA only for a monitor (time to upgrade!!) or buy a converter to connect your monitor. I have previously built my last few gaming PC’s, this one is almost perfect. I think I am going to want to upgrade the Ram from 8 to 16 or more, Install an additional drive or two. 1 TB is not big enough when it comes to today’s games that requires lots of space. As far as gaming, It plays most all stuff out today but some of the newer games may have to be turned down a bit (adjust graphic settings) as it can tend to push the AMD Radeon card. But this is very easy to access along with all other internal components via a tooless case entry system. Just slide a lever on the back and lift a lever and the side opens to reveal tons of space on the interior. But for the price point this is a great start!! Now on to my test results: I love the quick boot 256 SS drive, it takes less than 15 seconds to fully boot up (Win 10). I ran benchmarks using the following software: Sandra Lite, Crystal Mark, X264 Benchmark, 3d mark, Vr test from Steam and run specs to see if it could play the latest version of COD. The following highlights stood out amongst the benchmarkers: Sandra had it ranked in the 85% group and gave it an 86 out of 100 for a great performance rating. Everything performed at or above expectations. Unigine Heaven: Showed 101.7 FPS set on ultra, score 2561 and a max FPS of 183.4 (WOW!!) Steam VR test: Passed with a High Quality mark (6.8) 3D Mark: running Time Spy game demo was about 27 FPS with a score of 3901. Tested for New COD requirements: Processor, Graphics card came back good but ram is recommended to be 12gb (currently 8gb) Crystal Mark: score was a very respectable 341157 Airflow is more than enough to keep the rig cool, and all fans are very quiet. It comes with a basic mouse and keyboard and is installed with the latest version of Win 10 (ver. 1709) Not a lot a bloatware that some companies install, very easy to uninstall. I am looking forward to many hours of gaming with this unit. I would recommend this to friends and family as a good start point!! I love it.

======= Summary ======= The HP Omen AMD Desktop system delivers fast performance in a sleek-looking and well-designed package that also offers great upgrade potential. ======= Design ===== My first impression upon looking at the HP Omen was how cool and sleek it looks. I like its futuristic design with its aggressively angular and symmetrical design, matte black color that is accentuated with black carbon fiber, and the glow-in-the-dark red LED lighting effect. It looks like a serious gamer's & productivity machine. The case feels nice to the touch and feels solid, well-built, and well put together. There are no creaking and rattling sounds. I also like how well ventilated the entire system is. There are plenty of cooling and airflow vents on the bottom of the case, the sides, the back, and the top. Despite the case not being a full-size ATX case, I don't anticipate any cooling or heating issues. The Omen case also supports liquid watercooling as well. Slide off the easy-open side panel and you'll find inside an airy and surprisingly spacious environment. The cables aren't hidden or tucked away but they don't significantly obstruct any airflow. The fans are very quiet and they only become audible when you're stressing the system by playing some 3D-heavy games. Other design aspects I really appreciate are the easy-to-access USB and audio ports on the top-right side of the case as well as the two hard drive enclosures located on the top-middle of the case. It is an interesting place to install hard drives in for sure. The included wired USB keyboard and optical mouse are both black and they look okay. The mouse is just a simple mouse with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel. It was comfortable to use and performed well during my gaming and Internet sessions. The keyboard, however, was kind of lacking. I didn't like its short length (13 inches, as opposed to a more regular length of 17 inches) and how cramped together all the keys are. Also, typing on the keyboard was like typing on a laptop keyboard due to its short keystroke and level of dampening feel. For gaming purposes, the keyboard is definitely inadequate and needs to be replaced with a better one. To sum it all up, HP has done a great job with the design of this AMD Omen system. Great looks on the outside and great organization of components and airflow venting and cooling in the inside. ======= Operating System & Software ======= The Omen comes preinstalled with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Also preinstalled are a minimal & acceptable amount of third-party apps such as Netflix, Amazon, Cyberlink Media Player, Dropbox, and McAfee LiveSafe security suite. HP has also added their own suite of apps such as HP Jumpstart, HP Orbit, Omen Command Center (overclocking app), and HP Recovery Manager. None of these apps bothered me and I didn't uninstall any of them. They are all useful in their own ways and I was already using some of these services anyways such as Netflix and Dropbox. Compared to systems I've owned in the past where there were SERIOUS amounts of bloatware and crapware everywhere, what comes preinstalled in the Omen is a breath of fresh air and totally acceptable. Whatever you don't like, you can just uninstall them inside Settings. ======= Performance ======= Before getting into details, here is how my computer was set up: **HP Omen AMD System ----AMD Ryzen 5 1400 CPU (4-core/8-thread), 3.2 GHz (boost to 3.4 GHz), 8 MB L3 cache, 65 W TDP, Socket: AM4 ----AMD Higos microATX motherboard ----1x 8GB DDR4 memory (3 more empty slots, for up to 32GB total memory) ----AMD Radeon 580 GPU with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory ----256 GB NVME PCIe x4 Samsung PM961 SSD drive ----1 TB Western Digital SATA-3 HDD with 64 MB cache ----Realtek ALC3863-CG HD Audio **Asus MX27AQ 27" WQHD (2560x1440) IPS monitor (not included with the Omen) **HP USB keyboard (wired) (included with the Omen) **HP USB optical mouse (wired) (included with the Omen) **Edifier e25 Luna Eclipse stereo speakers (not included with the Omen) The first game I played to test out the Omen was Middle Earth Shadow of War (just released in October 2017). The in-game settings I used is as follows: --Resolution: 2560 x 1440 --Lighting Quality = Ultra --Mesh Quality = Ultra --Motion Blur = On --Anti-Aliasing = FXAA Only --Shadow Quality = Ultra --Texture Filtering = Ultra --Texture Quality = High --Ambient Occlusion = High --Vegetation Range = Ultra --Depth of Field = On --Tessellation = On The game ran & played like a dream. I tried setting the Texture Quality at "Ultra" but the Radeon RX 580 couldn't handle it due to lack of enough GPU memory (the game became a lag-fest). To use the "Ultra" Texture Quality setting, one needs a GPU with at least 8 GB of RAM. But you don't lose out on much quality by going to "High" instead of "Ultra." I ran Shadow of War on my other gaming rig with a nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and I didn't notice much, if any, difference between the two texture settings. I next fired up one of my favorite games of all time - The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, an action role-playing game from 2015. I set the Graphics Preset to "Ultra" and the game ran beautifully on the HD Omen at 2560 x 1440. Playing Rise of the Tomb Raider (2016) at 2560 x 1440 with quality set to "Ultra" was another awesome & smooth gaming experience. No stutters or lags and just smooth & consistent gameplay experience. These were the scores I got when I ran the game's built-in bechmark: --Mountain Peak: 51.87 FPS (min: 24.86, max: 113.29) --Syria: 46.25 FPS (min: 11.61, max 80.65) --Geothermal valley: 43.98 FPS (min: 14.33, max: 69.33) --Overall score: 47.42 FPS In addition to playing games, I also benchmarked with a synthetic benchmark - Geekbench 4.1.4. My Single-Core score was 3,575 and the Multi-Core score was 11,708. The GPU Compute score was 116,608 (my GeForce GTX 1080 scored 175,740). Summing it all up, the HP Omen system is an excellent gaming rig that can easily handle both modern and older games at the sweetly balanced resolution of 2560 x 1440 (WQHD). If your monitor has a resolution of 1080P or below, then you'll experience even greater performance and higher framerates. You'll be able to play every single game out there with "Very High" or "Ultra" quality settings easily. The Omen, however, cannot comfortably run games with high-quality graphics settings at the 4K display level. To do that, you'll need to buy a GPU like the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti which costs ~$700. And systems with such GPU power cost way more than this HP Omen in the neighborhood of ~$2,000 and up. ======= Ports & Connectivity ======= The Omen offers all the most commonly used ports and connections. On the back, you have a DP port, an HDMI port, 6 USB ports, 3 audio ports, an ethernet port, and more DP and HDMI ports from the RX 580 graphics card. On the top of the case, you have 4 USB ports (2 are USB Type-C~!!), 1 headphone port, 1 mic-in port and a 3-in-1 card reader. No issues or complaints here when it comes to ports & connections. I believe most people will be perfectly content and happy as I am. ======= Future Upgradeability ======= The Omen is FULL of upgrade potential~! As of right now, you can upgrade the CPU to the 95W 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 7 1800X CPU, up to 32 GB of DDR4-2400 memory, a GeForce GTX 1080 GPU (or any others that require up to 500 W power supply), and your choice of any SATA and/or PCIe M.2 hard drives. With AMD promising long support for the AM4 CPU socket and the trend of CPUs and GPUs requiring less power, this HP Omen system can offer many, many years of upgrades and enjoyment. There is one thing, however, you cannot do. You can't run two GPUs because the motherboard supports only one PCIe x16 slot. For the majority of gamers out there, however, this shouldn't even be an issue. I personally prefer a single-GPU setup because there is a lot less game and driver compatibility issues. In addition, not all games will benefit in a significant way from a multi-GPU setup and the cost-to-benefit ratio is not always good. With that said, all of this upgrade potential is bolstered by how easy HP made it to access the internal components and how spacious it is inside the case. Good job, HP~!! ======= So, is it any good? Is it a good buy? ======= Absolutely~! HP has designed and built a solid gaming machine that will play most games at high resolutions with all the eye-candy settings turned on. Playing games at 2560 x 1440 is the best sweet spot for smooth framerates and high-quality visuals. The Omen looks good, has great internal organization and airflow, has a great upgrade potential, and most importantly, offers great value for your money.

I usually dont like AMD chips and dont use them in my builds, why? cause I have always read that they run hotter. I like to build on small factor cases. I was very interested to do some stress testing and see the temps on this chip and so far I can tell you it runs cool. Its a very well ventilated case with alot of room inside and good placement on the fans. So not sure if its the case or the chip that makes it run cool but either way I have no problem or concerns with it. Also the AMD 580 is a winner and also doesnt get close to 70c which some of my gfx cards as well as yours run normally. Then again I am not overclocking either. Performance is great, I play my steam games at 60fps easily, currently running alot of leagues in FM2018 which is very processor heavy game and have no sluggishness/slowness at all. The case is so much nicer then I expected, very bright logo in the front with a nice red color. Ventilation is well done with lots of fans and memory is plenty for what you need. If you want just buy another stick of 8 and this way you get your 16 but for me 8 is more then enough. SSD was a great choice and its also nice that it has the extra hd for storage. Very well thought out system. Also very very quiet system. feel free to message me for more info on temps, stress tests etc, this only allows two pictures so I posted a picture of my setup with my tv and alexa as monitor and speaker... Only thing I did not like is the not so clean way the wiring is done inside the case but I will take care of that myself with a few zip ties and some velcro straps. It doesnt seem to matter anyway since it runs cool. Great computer nice job HP.

This model of the HP Omen is an all-around great gaming PC for a very agreeable price point. It is loaded with high-tier AMD hardware and a SSD/HDD combo, there is both plenty of power for the latest games as well as plenty of storage space. Coming off of a gaming PC with 2x the RAM, and Intel based, I can say this is still faster and without any lag. The unit itself is creatively designed, with plenty of ports for various USB devices, headphones, SD cards, DVDs, etc. The lighting is so cool, I had to share a picture of this with you. Unlike many store bought PCs, the Windows 10 installation has minimal bloatware installed, and boots quickly right from the box. The SSD made quick work of the updates and the system was fully upgraded and ready to go within 30 minutes of plugging it in. Games such as DayZ, Battlefield 1, and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare all run without a hitch. Overall, I'd heavily reccomend this computer to anyone interested in a great gaming PC for an affordable price point and for those who don't want to try to build one. I don't think you could really build something as nice as this, for the price point, and have as nice of an overall package. There is a great control center, which shows you a plethora of status information - from temperature, your percentage of memory used, bandwidth used, and the list goes on. Very nice. As I think it through, there isn't anything lacking on this machine. You won't be disappointed with this, and to be completely honest, I've found that the HP gaming PC's are nothing short of amazing. I've tried others, but nothing seems to equal the packages that HP puts together.

OMEN by HP (880-020) Setup/Testing/Conclusion First impressions… I must say that the box itself attracted me. I like the black and red that HP used for the OMEN. Great choice! Upon opening the box you will notice the quality packaging foam that HP used. It’s not your typical foam that you normally get. It doesn’t flake! Also, the OMEN comes in a nice protective bag that is also black. As you’re removing the bag you’ll see the nice handle on top of the case. The system weighs about 30lbs or so, it’s not TOO heavy… Especially when compared to my full size tower that I already have. HP did a really great job with marketing and packaging. Setting up the OMEN was not difficult at all. You’ll be able to remove the protective film on the case here and there. The OMEN case is definitely nice. I like the design and carbon fiber look. The finish on it is just simply wonderful in my opinion. Black and red again of course which is beautiful. On the top of the case you’ll see the ports described below in the specs I provided. You of course have your headphone and microphone jack on the top of the case as well. On the front of the case you’ll notice the 2 easy to remove hard drive bays. The actual mechanical hard drive that is included is inside the system itself. I don’t see a way to mount SSDs to the hard drive bays which is quite interesting as so many gamers are adapting/switching to SSDs now. Removing the side panel was really easy to do and I like the fact that you don’t need to remove any screws to do so. All you literally do is unlock it in the back by sliding a plastic piece and then push the top back of the case down where it says “side panel release button”. Once the side panel was removed I was then able to inspect the parts. So personally I haven’t bought a pre-built gaming computer in a VERY long time. But this is where the disappointment begins for me. The SSD is not your traditional SSD, it's the type of SSD that plugs into the motherboard itself. The video card has a single fan and is reference model, instead of it being an aftermarket one. Not really an issue I guess…? BUT, none of the actual components (motherboard, video card, memory, SSD) are from actual reputable companies that a lot of gamers know. When I previously bought Dell systems prior to me building my own custom gaming rigs, it was the same thing. So I can see none of that has changed… But I thought, HEY why not just boot this sexy beast up and see what I can get out of it. After setting up Windows I went ahead and started installing games. I installed a pretty old game which is Counter-Strike Global Offense. Although old, it is still a widely played FPS. I then installed my BF1 and started testing this rig on both FPS. Counter-Strike GO was pretty standard. I mean like I said, it’s an old game so it’s not very demanding. The OMEN held its own during this game. BF1 was released October 2016 which makes it a year old game. This was where I honestly noticed the difference… Note that the OMEN (880-020) is running an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor along with a RX 580 which was released in 2017. My old setup is running an Intel i5 3570K and a GTX 1060. First thing I noticed on the OMEN was the auto settings defaulted to medium. So… I tried cranking it up to Ultra. I mean it’s a system that is running parts that were made in 2017 for a game that was made 1 year ago. So it should play flawlessly right? To my surprise… It was NOT playable. Gameplay was not smooth and I could tell the frame rates I was getting was not in anywhere enjoyable for a gamer. My PC that is at least 4-~5 years old (except for the video card) can run BF1 on Ultra with smooth gameplay and great frame rates. I understand that this specific model wasn’t made to be a top of the line gaming PC and instead it’s a low-mid end gaming rig. And note this… The AMD RX 470/480 series was released to compete with the GTX 1060. The RX 570/580 is an overclocked version of the 470/480. So.. Shouldn’t it technically do better than the 1060? For the MSRP… I honestly expected a lot more. There are a couple other things I didn’t like. On idle the OMEN is pretty quiet which was NICE! But as soon as there was any load, you can hear a turbine jet start on and off and it's sorta annoying after a while. A couple things I would’ve done differently is perhaps an aftermarket CPU cooler, perhaps better quality case fans, aftermarket parts (MSI, Kingston, Corsair, ASUS, etc. - for the video card, motherboard, memory), and filters for the case fans (WHY HP! WHY?!?!?!). Perhaps having aftermarket parts it would’ve made a difference when it comes to things like gaming, I mean afterall… OMEN is a gaming rig! As for the filters, I’m sure others out there agree with me when I say that every gaming rig needs filters. When it comes time to clean your gaming rig, having filters makes a huge difference in keeping your internal components clean as well as it makes it WAY EASIER to clean your tower. Performance wasn’t the only let down for me in my opinion. The RX 580 during BF1 got up to 82c… I mean I guess it’s not terrible but my 1060 only got up to 62c. That's literally a 20 degree difference. What I can say though is that the OMEN performs better than my wife’s build which has an AMD FX 8350 black edition and a GTX 770. In conclusion… The thing I liked the MOST about the OMEN is the case itself. When I say the case itself I mean the design and look. It definitely is sexy. But when it comes to the components/parts; I was really disappointed on the outcome of performance. This is all my opinion but I feel like if you’re going to build a gaming rig, the parts you put in it MUST be as good as how the PC looks. Think of it like this. You can drive a really slow vehicle with a shell of a lamborghini. But when it comes time to perform… Well, you get what I’m saying. Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to recommend this specific rig to my peers because I do game via PC and my peers know that I am a gamer. When my 4~5 year old PC runs games better than something that was just released this year (2017); that is scary. UNLESS you’re running something like an AMD FX 8350 and a GTX 770, I wouldn’t necessarily make the leap. Out of the box, this gaming PC tower looks for real. It includes a sturdy built-in handle to carry with, and has a sleek look about it. Box includes the tower, keyboard, mouse, power cable, and a little metal rectangular tool which HP is unable to identify after calling their tech support. They said it went with the Omen X series but it was packed with my PC. I'm not sure what it is for at this time other than a tool for another desktop possibly. I'm not going to bore you with SW included, stats, measurements, and basic tech specs of the machine as there would be a ton to post here - and they are already available via this Best Buy ad and also on HP.com, not to mention other reviews. I won't reinvent the wheel here... but instead will offer up my observations after playing for about 3-4 days now. PROS: * Easy to pick up and move with built-in durable handle on top of the unit. * Great design and look. Looks very cool on the front with the red lighting. * Great for gaming as it was designed to do. I saw some improvement in performance over my previous system in the games HearthStone Heroes of Warcraft and another game, League of Legends. Transitions were very smooth though a hiccup every now and then did occur, possibly due to internet connection or possible RAM limitations (8GB). * Plenty of 'regular' USB 3.0 ports, 4 on the back, 2 on the top/front * Nicely placed and covert DVD drive - on the front - hardly detectable, masked very well. * Roomy inside the tower itself. Great access to RAM slots, 2 extra HDD slots on the front top (nice camouflaged location), spare slots for cards on the back. * PC is generally very quiet even with the multiple fans running inside. During gaming sessions, it remains relatively quiet. CONS: * The keyboard, OMG the keyboard. Gamers don't want crammed and compacted keyboards. If a keyboard comes with a gaming system, then it should be a gaming one. I know most people will have aftermarket keyboards, and this may be a cost-savings thing by HP... "they're not going to use it anyway, so let's just give them a bad one". That appears to be the reason. Be prepared to use your current keyboard or buy a new one. For gaming purposes, this keyboard is rendered practically useless. * The mouse - same issue. Basic, and rendered practically useless for gaming. I loathe this mouse. Previous HP mice iterations work better IMO. * 8GB of DDR4 RAM? Ok, the system is upgradeable to 32GB, but a gaming computer should start out with 16GB out of the box in my opinion. Windows 10 struggles with 8GB by itself. And generally, you can buy RAM at better pricing in pairs... you can't buy 3 as a pair which is how many slots are left in the tower. * Biggest complaint - No VGA or DVI connections available. Only 1 HDMI port and 3 DP ports are available. * No DP (display port) converter to VGA/DVI. Personally, I like using DVI the most. Without a DP converter, your only option out-of-the-box is to use HDMI for connecting your display/TV. The sound provided by the PC is of normal quality. Nothing good or bad there. I have a Logitech sourround sound hooked up using the audio jack and it sounds fine. Overally, a good gaming PC. It's also priced well if you want the minimum requirements (AMD, minimalistic keyboard/mouse, 8GB RAM, etc) of gaming online. By the time you pay for upgrades to the system, you have spent more than you would normally spend on a better out-of-the-box system. If this is all you need, then the price and specs are right. If you need more, you may want to explore other options before spending more money on upgrades.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the setup of this PC as is and it's a good value for what you get, but options for upgrading feel a little limited for the size especially considering the size of the case. HP is also pretty liberal with the bloatware, which is disappointing for a gaming PC. The box includes the PC and a wired keyboard and mouse. The PC might be built for gaming, but the keyboard and mouse are about as basic as it gets; I would definitely recommend getting those separately. The PC itself is well built and it's easy to get inside of it for upgrades. For ports you get plenty of USB, including 2 type C ports, as well as a media card reader on the top of the case. The front of the case has a lit up OMEN logo and LEDs that light up the ground in front of it. I don't mind the LEDs, but some people may not prefer it and so far I haven't found a way to turn them off. Additionally, there are two slide out hard drive bays for storage expansion. I would consider the specs to be pretty mid-range, though trending towards the upper end: CPU - Ryzen 1400 RAM - 1x 8GB DDR4-2400 module with room to add 3 more GPU - AMD RX580 with 4GB of GDDR5 memory Storage - 256GB M.2 Flash Storage and a 1TB mechanical HDD I do wish they had gone with the Ryzen 1600 instead of the 1400 and added an extra 8GB of RAM. Fortunately both of these are pretty easy to upgrade after the fact and I don't think the current configuration necessarily holds it back. It should be noted that there is only one PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard, so there's no option to add a second GPU or do Crossfire. Initially booting and configuring the PC took a couple hours - most of that time was spent removing a lot of extra HP programs and app shortcuts. I was pretty disappointed with the amount of bloat that came preinstalled. After getting everything updated and installed/uninstalled everything was very snappy. It boots up and shuts down quickly and I had no issues or slowdowns doing everyday things, but that's obviously to be expected on something like this. Gaming is very good on this PC and I was able to crush all of my games at 1080p and the highest quality settings, including DOOM, which ran at 100+ FPS at highest settings. My understanding of the RX580 is that performance-wise it slots somewhere between and NVIDIA GTX 1060 and 1070, so it's far from the top of the heap in GPUs, but in my experience it seems more than capable of running most games without any issues at 1080p and I would imagine 1440p as well (though maybe with the quality settings dialed back a little bit). I will be upgrading the CPU and RAM in the future and I do wish HP would lay off the bloat, but as it is I think this is a really capable mid-range gaming PC.

The Hp Omen Gaming PC is a great PC for someone that wants to get into gaming but is unsure of how to build their own PC. You will almost always end up with something better if you build it yourself because you can personalize and build in a way that suits you better than buying something pre built but I have to say this PC is pretty darn good. Let me Start with the positives The PC graphics card and Cpu are pretty good, they are not the highest end that you can get but you should have no problems playing any of the newer games out or coming out. The case is designed very well and has plenty of space for any future upgrades you would like to do. Now lets move onto the negatives, there is not a lot of ram in the system at 8gb most newer games are maxing this out if you try to run on higher settings , the good thing is the computer is very easy to upgrade your ram, I just wished it came with at least 12gb if not 16gb. The other issue is the Graphics Card it comes with a RX580 which is a pretty good mid range card the issue is that this is the 4Gb vram version of the card. that is very little vram for trying to run games at high settings. Running Destiny at High settings had me using up almost all of the vram and I was getting dips below 60fps. While not a big issue at the moment this will become a bigger issue in the coming years when games are going to need more memory to run. Even though the PC has these negatives I think overall this PC is a very good value for someone looking to get into PC gaming and kind of unsure where to start. It helps you build a very good foundation and learn.

This unit has everything that you'll need to get you started. Has one of the best starting graphics cards you can pick up right now. Future-proof. Easily upgradeable. Super fast. Easy to set up multi screen. I like the hot swappable front hard drive system that this Omen has. I like the Cosmetic look of this unit the black and red come together real nice. Even though this is a good starter for dedicated PC gaming all around you'll have years of good fun out of this unit.

Tons of speed, storage and room to upgrade for years to come.  This HP OMEN is a beast of a machine that can handle normal day to day computing tasks like web surfing, word processing and spreadsheet reporting, image editing, etc. as well as gaming and video editing.  You name it, this machine can handle it.   Design:   This tower has a pretty large footprint.  Not the biggest out there, but be prepared to give it enough room wherever you’re planning to place it.  It’s not something that might tuck neatly away in a desk.  The look is awesome, with a nice black and carbon fiber like finish.  When powered on the front glows a cool red and gives it a very ominous feel.  All of the connections are very easy to get to, with lots of USB ports running down the front of the machine, and the rest of the USB, HDMI, Display Port etc around back.  The front top panels open up like Lamborghini doors, and this is where you can install extra HDDs.  Simply pop the doors open, slide in your HDDs and you’re ready to go.  Internal expansion if very easy, simply pop one button on the back of the unit and the side opens up giving you full access to all the components inside if you want to upgrade RAM or other components.   Connections and Software:   Tons and tons of connections, over 25 in all.  You have 8 USB 3.0 connections as well as a few USB 2.0 and even a USB-C port.  Whatever you will want to connect to this tower, you have the room to do it.  Not only the hard line connections, but it also has Bluetooth 4.2 and it’s very easy to connect your Bluetooth devices.  Network connections include a Gigabit Ethernet jack as well as Wireless-AC up to 867 Mbps.  This makes the unit so flexible in you don’t have to have a landline Ethernet cable to get online, simply join your AC wireless network and you’re blazing away.  This also makes it very easy to take the tower with you if you need to, and not worry about network connections where you’ll be.  as long as there is a wi-fi network, you’re good to go.  There is no VGA connection, so be aware of that when thinking about your monitor connections.  You get HDMI and Display ports here.  However they do not give you any cables in the box, so be ready to have HDMI, DisplayPort or adapters on hand in order to get up and running.  It runs Windows 10 Home 64-bit and gives you the option to activate Office 365 if you want.  Very few bloatware items come preinstalled which is very welcome, the machine comes lean and mean.  Some other software items that do come installed are HP Recovery Manager, HP Support Assistant, Netflix, McAfee LiveSafe (1 year subscription), CyberLink Power Media Player, Dropbox (25 GB Cloud Storage) (free for 1 year), HP JumpStart, HP Orbit, DTS Headphone X and HP OMEN Command Center.   I will say the coolest feature of the PC so far for me has been the HP OMEN Command Center.  Here you can fine tune the PC to get the most performance.  You can set CPU/GPU/RAM settings and configurations and even Overclock.  Very easy to get started, especially if you’re not familiar with Overclocking, and you can really get this thing to scream performance wise.  And if you ever run into trouble, you can always reset to defaults, so very fun to play with.   Performance:   Right out of the box, this thing flies.  I was skeptical of only 8GB of RAM, but that was quickly put to rest once I started to push the machine.  I paced it through normal computing and some gaming scenarios, and it never flinched or lagged once.  The 3.2 Ghz AMD Ryzen (this is the first computer I’ve used with this chip) performs very well under all scenarios, coupled with the onboard 8GB of DDR4 2400 RAM.  It never slowed or felt sluggish, it feels nice and zippy all around.  Graphics render smooth and accurately thanks to the AMD Radeon RX580 GPU running with 4GB of DDR5 video RAM.  Gaming scenarios in both standard and high frame rates felt very snappy and never lagged.  Video and image editing was also very nice, never feeling sluggish even when tasking the machine pretty heavily.  You can also get into the HP OMEN Command Center and fine tune any of the specs of the CPU/GPU and RAM and squeeze all the performance you can out of this PC, and put the performance exactly where you need it.  The PC comes set up with the 256GB SSD loaded with the OS and operating software, leaving you the full 1TB 7200 RPM for storage, and also comes with a third partition for just recovery.  I’ve been easily able to push dual HP monitors at 4K resolution.   So impressed with this machine.

HP's Omen does not allow a VGA to VGA connection. You will have to go out and purchase an adapter, or a HDMI to HDMI cable. HP does not supply any cables for this product, and for me this turned out to be an inconvenience. One IMPORTANT note: On the back of the Omen tower there is a HDMI connection port that has a little black cover in it. When you are connecting your monitor to a HDMI port (on the back of your Omen), do not remove this black plastic tab. This particular port does not work. There are other HDMI port connections on the lower side of the unit. Please use the other HDMI ports, otherwise your monitor will not receive a signal/input. I should know, it happened to me. A few words about the supplied HP keyboard. The keyboard is small, compact, and for me not the easiest of keyboards to get along with. I found the layout cramped.The supplied mouse was easy to use, operated with smoothness, and felt good. Product manual you may ask? NONE. At a minimum I would have liked to have seen a more comprehensive set up guide, with illustrations. Overall, the HP Omen is a winner. It's super fast, and will blaze through every task and chore you need it to do. You will have many fun filled hours with this product. Highly recommended.

This gaming/processing desktop is quite a sight. I like the style and design of the casing. It has an easy release button to open the side panel for access to the internal components. I will note that there is minimal documentation in the box regarding setup and PC feature explanations. I suppose HP expects anyone that buys a gaming PC to already know the ins and outs but having more thorough instructions would be good for someone new to gaming and high-end PCs. As others have mentioned, the corded keyboard and mouse aren’t anything worth writing home about. The Omen has a quick start-up thanks to Windows 10 being installed on the 256GB SSD. All apps, games, pictures, and files are defaulted to save to the SSD for fast access and loading. However, each of these individual types can be changed to save to the 1TB hard drive in the settings. There is also very little ‘bloatware’ which is nice. However, I did choose to uninstall the McAfee Antivirus since Microsoft Windows already has their own free antivirus. Although it comes with the lower end of the Ryzen 5 series graphics card at 1400 rating, it still can handle many games that I tested it on. One game in particular was the popular PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds. I also own another gaming machine that has an AMD RX 480 and the Ryzen 5 is pretty comparable, if not better. On the HP Omen, I could set the game to Ultra versus High on my other PC. Also worth mentioning is the included 8GB RAM. To improve multitasking and gaming, it would have been nice if the Omen came with at least 16GB RAM since 8GB is basically entry level. The consumer is now responsible for expanding the RAM at their own cost but at least it’s an easy process to open the side panel. For connectivity, the Omen has wireless-AC which gives a stronger connection to a Wi-Fi router with those capabilities. Also, the Bluetooth feature is great for easily connecting an Xbox One controller for gaming. Overall, this is a good gaming system. For the price, including a better keyboard/mouse (or at least wireless) and 16GB RAM minimum would have been a bonus but it is not a deal-breaker.

Got this computer three weeks ago after wanting a gaming computer for the longest time. Overwatch, Fortnite, and TF2 have all ran very smoothly on it. I've been able to stream MLBtv to my chromecast while playing games at the same time with no performance issues. Big step up from the little laptop I've been using for the last few years!

I’ve been using this desktop for the last week, and have enjoyed playing many games on high settings at 1080p. I’m really pleased with the performance of the AMD RX 580 compared to the NVIDIA 960 of my previous system. The Ryzen processor seems to keep up or surpass expectations - it is a significant upgrade from the SkyLake i5 process I had. This biggest advantage is that for the price, this is a really great performing machine. I would recommend adding more memory, though. Pros: - Fast boot/start up time (the M.2 PCIe SSD is very fast) - Easy access for hard drive swap (the slots are on the top of the case) - Usb type C ports and SD Card reader on top - Easy access side panel removal (push button, nothing to unscrew) - Great performance for the price Cons: - 8 GB memory is limiting, but can be expanded easily - I don’t think the case LED Lighting cannot be controlled on this model. According to documentation, if the system supports it where will be a section in the HP Omen Control App for lighting, which doesn’t exist. I ended up disconnecting the lighting on the motherboard. Neutral - The case is a bit over the top, but has grown on me

I will start by saying that I am using this for not only a gaming computer, but for my everyday computer as well. Taking this computer out of the box it definitely turns some heads. Everyone in my house that walked by it stopped to take a second look. It just looks cool with the non-typical design and the glowing red lights. The computer is very solidly built. Would be very easy to leave in one place, or to take over to a friends house if you were having a gaming party. It even has a handy carrying handle built into the top of the case! As far as connectivity goes, this computer has every port you could ever need. A whopping 10 USB ports, 3 display ports for multiple monitors, HDMI, wireless built in, DVD-RW drive, even 2 bays on the top that you can use to put in removable hard drives! I love that this has a 256GB solid state drive with the OS on it. This thing starts up in like 10-12 seconds. I also put all my applications and games on there well so they load up really quickly! There is also a 1TB SATA drive in there as well for file storage. As far as performance. For gaming, I found it to be a very solid performer. Definitely above average. Obviously its not going to perform as well as some high end gaming machines. But I was able to play some very current games with great results. I mainly loaded up Call of Duty: WWII just to see how it would perform since thats about as new of a game as you can get. I was able to run it at a very goo quality with no frame drops at all. Everything was very fluid and there was no jittering at all. It did take a little tweaking of the graphics card settings, but this computer is definitely a solid performer! The only thing I would recommend is maybe at least doubling the RAM on it. It only comes with 8GB stock, but I think it would really purr if it had 16 or 32 in it. I also do some video editing and graphic design work in Photoshop. This computer also was a very solid performer with that was well. I was able to open multiple large files in Photoshop and quickly move around between images with no hiccups. Video rendering times were also lightning fast on this machine as well. This will serve me very well as my daily computer for work as well as gaming in my free time. This is a very solid machine, and at a great price! You will need to tweak it a little when you take it out of the box to get the best performance, and possibly add a little more RAM, but this will serve me very well for years to come! I highly recommend it!

Let's begin with the in boxing experience. First, you get the usuals unit+power cable and then a wired keyboard mouse combo that you probably won't use since it's basic and not designed for gamers. Once you get the computer pulled out though you see a beautiful design plus a convenient handle for those of us who take our computers with us.Tie it all together with sssoooo many ports and upgrade capabilities that personally I think is a good starting platform to make whatever computer your looking for. Performance is what you should expect from this unit. With it's solid state drive you fly through boot up times. The first thing you will notice though is how incredibly quiet the fans are. Once you get into the system you see that you have controls to overclock whatever you need so even someone like myself who isn't the most tech savvy in doing that can. I tried a ton of games I own on this computer and yes the performance was amazing but even how long it took to get a game started was cut in 1/10 compared to my old computer. More time playing and less time waiting. Every game I put on this was able to push everything at MAX settings with ease. The only con which is a small one is the fact that out of the box it's not 100% compatible with some of the VR options out there which the newest VR said it only needed a driver fix so not too difficult. Simply put if your a gamer like me or someone who just wants to make sure they will have a great computer for anther 5-10 years, you can't go wrong with this one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
