    Great projector!

The image quality of the projector is stunning! Even without a projector screen, the images on the wall looks very sharp and have good contrast. Setup is mostly easy. Metal case gives the remote expensive feel. Very versatile settings for brightness, sound, and almost everything need to be adjusted. For example, you can choose from preset brightness levels or adjust between 50-100% level. For audio, the internal speaker can be turned on or off, this is independent of external audio output, so you can have both internal and external speakers on at the same time and adjust volume and delays independently. Had a little bit confusion of using HDMI ARC to connect to SONOS, which does not work, looks like it's input only. Fortunately, was able to use the SONOS HDMI to optical cable to connect to the optical S/PDIF port. The black color of the projector is definitely a good choice. The noise from the project fan is barely noticeable when the speaker volume is low.

I remember the day I first saw Sony's short throw projector back when I was a MDC rep and I couldn't believe a projector could output such a vivid and sharp image. That was back in 2016 when it cost $50k to own one. In comes this little guy that's probably about 1/3 of the size of that Sony beast but it packs quite a punch. I would say that it's almost as good as the Sony, with the only drawback being that this isn't native 4k. Pros: -Setup is a breeze. I actually built my own console to fit this in so that it's not sitting on top of anything. I used the geometric grid(9x9) to perfectly fit the image into my 110" screen. -The color is beautiful. -The resolution is incredible as well. con: -The only drawback from my last projector(JVC 4k e-shift) is the black levels aren't as deep. This also makes watching during the day pretty dreary. -The control uses bluetooth. It took Logitech a few months to finally get the coding to work, and it's still off. It has to do with Optomas built in UI. Sending commands to it has been a headache. So far this is the biggest problem I have with it. I like using 1 remote and right now I'm having to use at least 3.

I had to wait for the release of this projector ever since it was announced, nearly a year. I must say that it was worth all the wait. The moment I decided to buy a projector, I already made up my mind to buy a laser projector for all the obvious reasons. The second must have option was the Ultra Short Throw (UTS). I'm not a big fan of ceiling-mounted projectors, it ruins the look of the room unless you build an enclosure soffit. I hate the beam of light crossing the room, and when someone walks in front of it, the image is gone although for a brief moment. This projector had exceeded all my expectations. I have theater room that I painted matte black, and the image is out of this world; vivid black, very sharp crisp colors and because it is laser with high luminance, the image is bright even in ambient light. This projector comes with a very descent sound bar, but honestly I didn't need it because in this price range you want to have a really good surround system. I'm pairing this with a Yamaha RX-A2080, Polk subs and speakers mounted behind an acoustically transparent screen. The experience is unbelievable, but the WOW factor is the image and it's coming from this amazing projector. I would definitely recommend this.

This projector has exceeded my expectations. I bought it to replace a 1080p LG projector. The increased resolution (and improved brightness) is significant. I finally feel like I have a movie theater at home. The sound out of the projector's speaker is boomy, but I chose to turn it off and use a soundbar with rear speakers and subwoofer for better surround. This brings me to one of the drawbacks. Perhaps it is just my unit, but the internal TV speaker turns itself back on at random times. It is easy enough to go into the settings change it to "on" then back "off" to correct the problem. However, I would think such a glitch would not occur in a projector of this price. I also could not get HDMI CEC to work, but your mileage may vary. It could be my soundbar. Back to the positives, the projector feels solid and very well made. Although it advertises a maximum picture size of 120 inches, I increased the distance from the wall just by a few inches to get well over 150 inches and the picture has not lost any clarity or brightness to my eye. And, this is all the more impressive given that I am projecting only onto a bare wall. I thought of purchasing an ALR screen but the picture is so good without a screen that I just do not see the need. 4K HDR from a connected Apple TV box are just amazing. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. It is a significant investment but so worth it for me. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to have a real theater experience at home.

First off, the picture quality is beautiful - honestly like having a 100" 4k TV on your wall. It is SUPER bright. I have no problem if I leave my curtains open an have near direct sunlight. So don't shy away from buying if you're scared about light. I replaced an Epson 1080p projector, just so everyone knows, this isn't my first projector. Setup was a breeze. You will definitely need a fixed screen, don't try using a dropdown screen. Complaints (none big enough to not recommend, but everyone should go in eyes wide open): * The interface is a bit of a pain. The remote (while sleek and well made) is so minimalistic that it doesn't have a button to change input...you have to go to the super bright home screen and use the menu to pick a new input. Wouldn't be a problem for me as I planned on only using one input and letting my receiver handle the switching, but.... * Input lag - I had to hook my PS4 up to it directly as the lag was pretty bad. Seems like bypassing the receiver made it a hair better, but it's still noticeable. I play a lot of MLB The Show, and the timing of the hitting/pitching is way off. I'd call it barely acceptable, but if you plan on using this primarily for games, buyer beware. * DLP Rainbow Effect - I never had or saw a DLP projector before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but in my house, my wife and two kids don't see it at all, even purposefully looking for it. Sadly, I do. Most noticeable when you move your eyes while watching something, like say looking down at your phone and back. Again, not awful, but it's there. I've had it for about 4 weeks and while it hasn't gone away, I think I'm convincing my brain to ignore it. * Software - Definitely some glitches - sometimes I'll change inputs - on the projector or my receiver and the picture will be a digital mess. Need to change it to something else and then back and it'll be OK. The HDMI auto power on/off controls are a mess, at least with my setup...randomly turns on my other things for no reason, so I disabled that. And just ignore the fact that this is a "smart" projector - it's not...can't display in 4k and it's so wonky I'd be embarrassed if I was in charge of that part of the engineering. Just buy a 4k streaming device - I bought an Apple TV 4k and it's stunning and super fast. CONCLUSION - put simply, I'd buy this again, and I'm praying Optoma can improve the bugs with firmware upgrades (they say they will on forums I've read). I didn't want to hang another projector from the ceiling, as the 4k ones are so much bigger than my old ones, so I was either getting this or going back to a regular TV, and those top out at about 80" without going insane on price. 20" is a HUGE difference.

We purchased this projector to use instead of a television in our living room. I had done a lot of research before deciding on this projector and so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect from it. After finally using it, it has exceeded my expectations. It was easy to setup. It displays an amazing picture, and does so even with a fair amount of ambient light (we are using it with an ALR screen); this is key because our living room gets a lot of light. Very satisified with this purchase. That said, there are things that could be improved, mostly software and connectivity. There is a marketplace, but the selection is lacking; I have found it difficult to get content to the projector without actually connecting a device to it. I haven't found any documentation or method of casting to the projector from Windows 10 over a network. I haven't been able to find a way to cast from an Android device. I haven't had any success in adding a shared network folder through the built-in software, either. Consequently, I am going to need to get another device to feed content to the projector. Which is acceptable, but not ideal. TL;DR: Amazing visuals, easy set up. But you will most likley need to add an additional device to deliver content, be it a PC, Apple TV, Roku, nVidia Shield, etc.

    Pixel over spray

    Posted .

Great picture. “With over spray of pixel”. So I have spent about a week with the projector. Over all the projector looks great in person. The image on the screen is nice. My biggest complaint is what Optoma calls pixel over spray. It is a glow that spills over the screen in every direction. I have called Optoma and they say this is “Normal”. I would tell you I have had projectors in the house for almost 10 years now and I feel it does not look right. They have told me to line up everything perfectly I tried and still have continued issues. I am not sure what to do at this point. I waited 2 months for the projector and am not sure if this is normal or I received a defective projector and Optoma does not want to admit it. I will attach the same pictures I sent to Optoma. Just be aware when buying this you will have what Optoma calls Pixel over spray even with their “SmartFIT app”

    Excellent UST projector

I rate this 5 stars with the caveat that there isn't much competition in the UST market at the moment. But it's got great build quality and it's actually been less quirky than a couple other standard and short throw projectors I've had. Also still needs to iron out some firmware quirks, but all in all, it delivers what it promises - a bright, reasonably sharp 4K HDR picture in a true UST format. Edges can be a bit soft at full focus, but this seems to be unavoidable with current alternatives and not really noticeable in real life viewing. Game mode on the latest firmware update is broken, but just turn off geometry correction and other video enhancements and you should be able to get to the ~70 ms lag - this isn't for competitive or short tempered gamers, but fine for family type fare. I'm using it on a fairly cheap, non CLR/ALR screen and am happy with the quality and brightness ,even in daylight, though I will upgrade my screen soon. One note- with standard, larger, protruding frame screens, you might lose the bottom inch or so or your picture due to the extreme angle. This doesn't bother me much, but I will get a thin bezel screen when I upgrade.

Delivered pre covid-19 lockdown so I haven't been able to get geek squad to professionally calibrate this projector. I use it almost daily with a 100 inch motorized screen. Colors are vibrant and rich. Terrible app store. A couple updates fixed gaming lag and added 3d support and minor improvements.

the operating system is really not good. other than that, i love the way it looks and the picture is outstanding. Still having some issues in making the pictures dimensions perfect and also having a hard time with connecting my sound bar and sub with it. I looks great but wish it was a bit smaller in size.
