This is my first air fryer oven. We usually use the oven that comes with the cooking range. So my reviews below is based on what I feel is good and what needs improvement. Pros: 1. Compact and Stainless steel design makes it looks premium. 2. Plethora of options - Air Fryer, Convection oven, Baking, Toaster oven, Broiler, Dehydrate and more... 3. Rapid Heating - It took around 10 to 12 min for French fries and 20~ min for Home made Pizza. 4. Digital control are easy to operate. 5. Pizza came up really well and even thea French fries tasted better but we cannot compare it with the one fried in the oil. But still we can prepare healthy food which will be a big plus for people who are more concerned about calories. Cons: 1. Big minus is the unavailability of light inside. Though it is available in the next higher end model, it is something that should be included as standard. If we are cooking in the evening, it is really hard to know if the food inside is ready or if it still needs sometime. We have to open it in between to check if the food is ready. It is a basic feature which Oster should have included. 2. Touch screen controls are not really feather touch. Having said that it is not hard but we feel it could have been feather touch to make it easier to operate. 3. There is no pause button to check and resume in the middle of cooking. 4. Shorter cord but this is not a big complaint. One can still live with it.

I like to cook and I like air fryers and convection ovens. This thing hits a nice sweet spot for price and performance. It does have a few quirks that I point out and some safety issues, if not used correctly, that I discuss later in the review. This is a pretty nice Air Fryer / Toaster Oven for the price. The overall build quality is good. It’s pretty straightforward and easy to use. And it cooks well too. Definitely on par with another more expensive one I tested last year and others I have owned and used for several years. The oven is stainless steel, has a selector knob for selecting the desired function and membrane buttons for time, temp, start and cancel. As you turn the knob it illuminates a white-purple-ish LED to show the function you have selected. That’s all the knob does. I wish it could be used to set the time and temp too as it would be faster and easier. Also the knob was binding a bit as I turned it. I pulled it out a little to stop it from rubbing and it came off. The shaft from the selector is too short and the knob is glued onto the end of it. There’s enough shaft going into the knob to keep it on without it coming off so I just pushed it back on but not as far. Problem solved. Nice and smooth. The membrane buttons can be a bit hard to press to make contact unless you're right on top of the button’s center and even then you may end up pushing the unit backwards before it registers. Not a problem unless the unit’s been running awhile and the oven’s cabinet is too hot to put your hand on to hold it from moving. The white-purple-ish LED numeric displays are bright and easy to read. Because of the heat the unit produces, I think the LED displays are a much better option than LCD displays that I have seen on other units. They should better stand the heat and last longer You have options for Air Fry, Toast, Bake, Convection, Broil, Dehydrate, Keep Warm, Defrost and Fries. The manual also shows a higher end model that adds options for Pizza, Wings, Veggies, and has an interior light. Keep Warm, Dehydrate and Defrost do not allow the temperature to be changed. Comes with a rack, pan and basket with feet. Has a pull out drip pan in the bottom for catching crumbs and drips. You can get a 12 inch diameter cake pan in it if it doesn’t have a wide brim. My wife and I cooked several items in it including brownies, biscuits, pizza, tater crowns, toast, garlic cheese toast, muffins and cupcakes. I reheated fried chicken and fish in it. It cooked them all evenly and took the same time as the other units we have been using. Overall we were very pleased with its performance. It cooked very evenly as seen in the photos. Defrost isn’t like with a microwave oven and takes more time but faster then just laying it on your counter. We did not test the dehydrate function. Operation wise fan noise seemed to vary at times when using Air Fryer and Convection or other functions that use the fan. The sound will change some as the oven heats up and expands. Also the fan will speed up and slow down a little when the heating elements cycle off and on to maintain temperature. This is normal for every countertop appliance that heats and blows that I have ever used. However, it seemed to make a little more noise at times than others for no apparent reason. But nothing that was annoying. I measured the temperatures for Air Fry, Convection, Bake and Broil with a thermocouple thermometer and the oven cycled like it should with a round a 50 degree temperature differential to maintain the set temperature. It lacks a “cool down” feature that keeps the fan running an extended period when you turn it off or the timer stops it. Here’s the most important part of the review. Reading the instruction manual’s safeguards are a must. Especially where to set and where not set and use the oven. Six inches minimum from the sides of the oven when operating it. Especially the wall behind it where it discharges hot air. Also do not operate under cabinets that are close to the unit. I wouldn’t unless they are at least a foot or more above the oven. Again, It blows hot air out the back and can heat up the wall and bottom of the cabinets. The manual also points out that the bottom of the oven gets hot and can damage or discolor certain types of countertops. I purposely operated the oven as close to the wall as the stops on the back would let me and it was under low hung cabinets too. I did this to show, with my thermal camera, how hot it can get on the wall behind it and under cabinets. Also how hot the plug in the wall gets. It’s unlikely that it will start a fire since combustion temps far exceed the 135F temps I got but it’s plenty enough to cause paint or wallpaper to discolor and or peel over time. Could possibly cause tile or other wall coverings to release in a small area too. I will be putting it in a different location than my counter top seen in the photos but until then I will simply pull it out to the edge when I use it. Simple solution. Please see thermal camera photos. I do wish the power cord was slightly longer and used a 3 prong grounded plug. My conclusion is it’s well made, cooks good and the manual explains the Dos and Don’ts of safely using the product. It will replace both my old egg shaped air fryers.

I have had many air fryers, but NONE even come close to how awesome this one is! This new Oster – RapidCrisp Digital Air Fryer Oven makes short work of perfectly cooked meals every time. I use this air fryer every day for almost every meal. I first tested this machine out on how well it made toast, and I was not disappointed. I love how many ways this “air fryer” can cook and let me tell you the toast was beautifully toasted, a nice and even brown from edge to edge. Another delicious meal we made was chicken wings, and my goodness, they came out hot and crispy, and just thinking about it, ill probably make some more for dinner tonight. Oster has this Air Fryer Oven dialed in, with 9 different ways it can be used to cook meals; convection oven, broiler, toaster oven, dehydrator, air fry, bake, defrost, fries, and keep warm. I am amazed at how well this oven performs and how even it cooks. I love how much food the basket can hold. I made chicken nuggets AND fries for my children in the same batch. The basket is big enough for re-heating a few pieces of leftover pizza, and they cook extremely fast and come out crispy, not soggy like a microwave, and not in an hour like a conventional oven. This oven is big enough to cook a 12-inch pizza but small enough where it doesn’t take up too much space on your countertop. The brushed stainless makes this appliance fit right in anywhere, and look great while being displayed. I really like the simple knob design, it makes selecting how you want to cook a breeze, and the time and temp buttons are easy to press, and the digital display is easy to read and understand. The only constructive criticism for this oven would be that I wish the basket had handles on it, not for heat reduction, but for making it easier to flip foods or taking the basket out of the oven. Overall, I am very pleased with this oven and how it cooks quickly and even and makes all sorts of tasty foods with multiple cooking options. I can’t recommend this product enough. If you are looking for an air fryer, this is it!

A compromise with a few shortcomings

The Oster Rapid Fry is a compact multi-function air fryer with an attractive metallic finished and simple, easy to operate controls. It has versatile cooking options that allow up to 9 different cooking modes. Some initial observations: • The air fry and convection modes work well with most foods but certain dense foods can occasionally burn on the outside while remaining semi-cooked, or even cold in some cases, on the inside. This is most noticeable with dense foods with easily burnable toppings like cheese. This isn’t the first air fryer to exhibit this and I think it’s more a shortcoming of the technology rather than the specific devices. It takes a little time to adjust cooking times and temps to balance out even all the way through cooking. Everything we’ve cooked was cooked thoroughly all the way through. • Exterior sides are warm to the touch while the air fryer is running at 400 degrees. It only starts feeling very hot about one inch from the door. No serious burn risk if a hand accidentally touches the oven exterior during cooking. • There is no preheating for any mode. The cooking timer starts once a mode is activated. Not a big deal with air frying and convection but can be an issue for regular baking. • The oven does not have an interior light which is a huge bummer on an air fryer. Given the propensity for an air fryer to easily burn certain foods, a light should be a mandatory feature on any air fryer with a view window. • The power cord is a little on the short side which limits placement options. . • The "mode" knob and the touch-sensitive buttons are responsive and smooth • The door opens smoothly and has a stopping point about 2/3 of the way. It can slam easily when closing, so caution is suggested. • The basket is not wide enough to slide into the sliders. It sits directly in the baking pan/grease tray (recommended use in air fryer mode). It would be better if it could sit independently on its own suspended above the bake pan for better circulation. • We prepared croissants, banana bread, bacon, pork, and frozen burger patties. Everything came out excellent, some after a little tweaking, and not overly dehydrated. I also tried using the toast feature but that wasn’t as good. I don't think I did it correctly because there wasn't much of a change to my English muffin. • One downside is this oven produces more smoke than other air fryers we’ve owned. The manual says this is normal at first but even after extended use, a large plume of smoke floats out when the door is opened. Depending on what is being cooked, it has even triggered the smoke detector. It could probably benefit from better ventilation. We tried adjusting the trays but it hasn’t made a difference. Overall, the Oster isn’t a bad air-fryer, nor is it a particularly good one. It’s squarely somewhere in the middle of the scale. It tries to balance the features of a small inexpensive air fryer with the versatility of the larger oven style air fryers. It’s a little on the small size when compared to the latter and lacks some of the features of similarly designed models. However, it offers a lot more than most dedicated air-fryers. It’s a compromise for sure. However, if looking for an affordable air fryer with some toaster oven features, it’s not a bad compromise. Just be willing to accept the notable shortcomings. I would recommend it but only to someone on a budget who has to have the combo features.

This air fryer is awful. I do not purchase I purchased in February of this year have you used it pretty regularly used it as stated and it is now mid June and it is broken. The knob came off and the face plate would push back anytime you pressed a button. For $100 expected to get more use out of it then four months.

I can't remember the time I fired up my oven. I'm addicted to convection toaster ovens for nearly all of my cooking needs. I make my toast, frozen pizza, air fry chicken, you name it...it gets done in a toaster oven. Unfortunately, I'm messy and things drip so and sometimes I'd rather just get a new one than clean it! Enter this Oster Rapid Crisp! Looks: With a stainless steel facade and dark grey shell this oven looks great on my countertop. I also appreciate the subtle look of the control panel. Controls: Other toaster ovens have a touch panel that lets you choose the oven method. I kind of like that this Oster uses a scroll wheel. It keeps your fingers on one wheel and prevents the buttons from getting worn out. Performance: God I love convection toaster ovens. I have a pizza that calls for 22-24 minutes in the oven that is a staple in my house. I load it up with extra cheese and popped it in this Oster and set the oven to 400 with convection. 8 minutes later it was perfection. Toast comes out toasty and I have no concerns about performance. Only negative: There's no light! It's got a great big window to watch the cooking progress, but I keep mine under a cabinet next to a refrigerator and I can't see inside - it's too dark! I would have loved a light so that I don't have to keep opening the oven to check on my food progress.

    Powerful Little Oven

The Oster RapidCrisp Digital Air Fryer Oven is a 9-function countertop oven that comes with some nice little features. The nine functions are Air Fry, Toast, Bake, Convection, Broil, Dehydrate, Keep Warm, Defrost, and Fries. These are selected by turning a dial on the oven. Even though it’s taller than most in this price range, the narrower body packs a lot of functionality and power. Honestly, that can be a good and bad thing. Also included with this is an air frying basket, baking pan, wire rack, and a removal tray for any crumbs that fall. This Oster oven also has digital touch control for your temperature, time, and to start or stop the process. Let me start with the good. As I mentioned before, the Oster RapidCrisp Digital Air Fryer Oven packs a lot of power within this smaller footprint. We learned our lesson quickly that it heats up fast and our usual timing didn’t apply. We haven’t tested everything, but the Air Fry, Bake, Keep Warm, Convection, and Fries all worked very well. The controls are easy to use and setting things up inside the oven are pretty self-explanatory as well. Even our 12 year old son figured it out quickly. Everything that we cooked, reheated, or toasted was easily cleaned up too. I like that everything is dishwasher safe, but I will probably hand wash everything to be safer. The last thing that I want to mention about the rack, basket, and pan is that you can put them in at the same time to try and expedite your cooking process. That’s something that a lot of units don’t bring to the table. Whether that was intended or not, it works out nicely. I can have something heating up on the wire rack and then something else on the pan finishing its process. Unfortunately, this Oster oven has some negatives that I want to point out as well. The claim on fitting a 12” pizza is barely true. There’s not much room to spare so that means you are forced to cook it on the wire rack instead of a pizza pan or stove. And if you are going to boast about cooking a pizza, then you have to have the pizza button on the model. That’s just my opinion. Transitioning that to the cooking/baking side of things, how can you not have a preheating process? Every toaster/convection oven that we have had prior to this came with that functionality. Granted, it does say in the guide to allow time for it, but that seems like a cover your tracks type of thing. It does heat up quickly, but we all know that preheating can make or break a meal sometimes. Another thing that I wasn’t happy with was the preset times and temps for some of the functions and having to use the digital buttons to adjust them. Starting at 325 degrees for 30 minutes and then having to adjust the time down to 10 minutes was painful. I tried holding it to see if it would jump in increments, but it did not. That meant I had to push the button to go down minute by minute. That was painful considering that it wasn’t registering all of the time either. From a toasting standpoint, I was not impressed. I’ve never had to crank a unit up so much to get some toasting to occur. It seemed like settings 1-3 are there for warming and a slight crisp. I shouldn’t have to “toast” something for 6 minutes to get some coloring. Lastly, I know the 12-function has it and it would be great if this one had a light too. Losing that heat to open the door and check something isn’t the best. On a whole, the Oster RapidCrisp Digital Air Fryer Oven is a good little unit. Since we haven’t tried to dehydrate or defrost anything yet, I think it’s best suited for air frying, baking (convection and non), broiling, and keeping things warm. The high powered heat works best for those functions and really expedites the cooking process. This would be a great unit for someone with limited counter space to help with cooking or not heat up the big oven for a solo meal.

I’ve always told my friends that having an Air Fryer is life changing due to its versatility. Air fryers come in all shapes and sizes, but loading food comes in two options: top load, and front load. The Oster RapidCrisp Digital Air Fryer is a front load oven, and I learned very quickly that front load ovens work much better in kitchen spaces. In regards to cooking, we had no problems with the typical stuff. For example, dino bites, fries of all sorts, bagel bites, toast, cheese quesadillas, and grilled cheese sandwiches were no match for the heating power of the Oster. And it’s quick to cook, too. If you use the air fryer mode, the top fan will spin, circulating the hot air around your food. We can get stuff going for our kids’ lunch in the morning, minutes before they head off to school. Everything comes out nice, hot and crispy out of this oven. In regards to performance, it does take a few minutes to allow the oven to reach your desired temperature; the higher the temp, the longer the wait. For air frying at 375, it took about 5 minutes to get to temp. But what I also learned is that the air fryer will overshoot your desired temp before coming back down. For a setting of 375, it overshot as high as 420 according to my food thermometer. A couple more minutes, and it began to come back down. I would say there is a plus/minus 10 degree difference. So for all air fryers, I typically choose a much lower temperature than what the recommendations on a food box states. I think that learning to use your air fryer with simple meals will pay dividends later when you start getting creative with meals. In regards to cleaning, it has a catch tray at the bottom that you can remove and clean; all the accessories are dishwasher safe. With it completely empty, you can easily wipe down the inside of any food residue. Back to my original statement about kitchen spaces. The Oster RapidCrisp is a front load air frying oven. You’ve probably seen those black top load ones at the store, but I think you should opt for this one instead. Here are my reasons: 1) You can see what you’re cooking. With the glass door, you can always see your food without disturbing the cooking process. Try that with the top load. 2) Opening the air fryer won’t hit your upper wall cabinets. For a comparable sized top load, it’s going to have a larger top that swings open. I have a large top load now, and it always hits the wall cabinets. 3) I think it looks better than a top load. That’s just my opinion. It has the look and feel of a traditional toaster oven with the skills of an air fryer. Overall, I’m very happy with Oster and the RapidCrisp Digital Air Fry Oven.

Why no light? Toasts and cooks food fine, but without a light you have to keep opening it to look inside and you let the heat out. Big design flaw for us. The buttons are a bit finicky, and you have to sometimes hit them a couple times to get it to respond. No pizza button which is probably one of the things we cook most in a toaster oven. There’s a Fries button, but be careful with that. Maybe it was the type of frozen fries we used were too thin, but the “Fries” setting burnt them to a crisp. Looks like there is another model that for $40-50 more comes with a light and a pizza button... Unfortunately overall a miss for us.

Absolutely loved this since buying it in December. Lots of easy options and consistent cooking. My only frustration earlier was the lack of a warming up cycle, so you had to factor that into the overall cooking time. For the most part, we did the air fryer setting and it was so nice. Until the other day, when it only started blowing cold air. Having it break in less than 10 months is frustrating. The convection/toast function works, but that's not quite why we bought this. So now, I'm going to be seeing how customer service responds to what is a warranty claim.

Nice little oven has the room to fit a pizza with no issues, I like the dial and how easy it is to clean

Same complaints as everyone else; the temperatures only go in increments of 25 degrees. This is horrible for air-frying. You can't get 260 degrees, only 250 or 275. Same with the timer, only 1 minute increments, so no 1:30; it is either 1 or 2 minutes. It is very strange that they could not program the dial to just go up in 5-degree increments, and the same is true for the time dial. Other than that, it is a great oven. I use it for just about everything.
