My wife and I have been using the Philips 2200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine with LatteGo daily for over a year now, and we don’t regret the purchase at all. The quality improvement of having freshly ground coffee at home is worth the significant investment to us. Here are my thoughts on this machine: Pros: Ease of Use: The machine is incredibly user-friendly with its intuitive touch screen interface. It takes just a few taps to brew a perfect cup of espresso, coffee, or cappuccino. For example, I prefer strong coffee and my wife doesn’t, and its default is mild. I just press the bean button twice for stronger coffee. Consistent Quality: The espresso and milk foam quality are consistently good. The machine delivers a rich and aromatic coffee that surpasses what I’ve experienced with chain coffee shops. LatteGo System: The LatteGo milk frothing system was a main reason for the initial purchase although ironically I don’t use it all that often. It’s easy to attach, clean, and produces creamy froth for your cappuccinos and lattes. Automatic Cleaning: The automatic cleaning function is a nice feature, and ensures the machine remains functional with minimal effort. Compact Design: The sleek and compact design fits well in my kitchen without taking up too much counter space. Cons: It can take a while to turn on once it shuts down. 30 seconds or so can seem like an eternity to me first thing in the morning. Haha Plastic Build: The machine is predominantly made of plastic, which might not appeal to everyone. Noise Level: The operation can be quite loud which might be a concern for some households. Limited Customization: While it’s great for basic coffee drinks, the machine offers limited control over finer details like temperature and grind size. Overall: The Philips 2200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine with LatteGo is an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality coffee at home with minimal hassle. It also pays for itself over time if you go out to buy coffee regularly. Easy cleaning, ease of use, consistent coffee taste, and convenient features make it an awesome value for money. However, if you’re looking for a machine with more options and/or a fancier appearance you might want to explore other models.

Received this as my big want for Christmas due to being tired of the manual work needed in your standard espresso Machine. When I 1st fired it up for some shots I was honestly disappointed but after some research I learned there is a break in that needs to take place. Ran a couple bags of beans through it for the 1st night with back to back double espresso shots. Next morning it started coming to life, as of now 01/05/24 it is making amazing shots to the point if I walk by it and look at it all I want is espresso because it taste so good!!! BTW my son and wife are hooked as well due to to the convenience and ease of use. For our nin*a coffee maker, it has officially been retired and I gave my mother in law my manual espresso machine. Really solid machine and I am pleased to say GOOD BYE to to the $5 to$7 coffee drinks from the shop!! If you get this please be patient and run it through the gauntlet with some cheap beans for break in and you will not regret it 100%!! Totally recommend cheers to some shots of some awesome espresso!!

Great and easy to use! Love the aroma of the fresh ground coffee beans. My favorite features are the self cleaning and the water filter. My only pet peeve is that it has a warning light for everything except refilling the coffee beans. I keep the coffee maker under the cabinet, so I can’t see if it’s empty. I could only tell by the sound. So if I start to make a cappuccino and walk away, I won’t notice if it’s not really grinding coffee. Other than that, I get perfectly frothed cappuccinos!

After 10 months I'm still quite satisfied with the Philips 2200 Espresso Machine with LatteGo. The convenience of a fully automatic/super automatic machine is a real time saver in the morning--it allows me to prepare my breakfast or lunch while the machine heats water, rinses/pre-heats the brew head, and dispenses coffee or prepares a cappuccino. For maintenance, the rinsing of the brew group once a week isn't too difficult--if the brew group doesn't rotate/move--then it can be a bit cumbersome to reset it to the right position so it can be placed back into the machine when dry. (not unique to this brand/model) I would have liked to see a "frothed milk" option to created milk foam on top of a hot chai tea or other drink. I did find in online forums this is done by starting the cappuccino cycle in the "pre-ground coffee" setting which will dispense frothed milk, pause, then discharge hot water from the brew head--you just pull your mug away and allow the hot water to drain into the drip tray. The water filter has a good lifespan--I got the warning light and had to replace it after about nine months of daily use. There are other maintenance products (descaling kits, lubricating grease, and coffee oil remover) from Philips which are relatively easy to use but the overall maintenance beyond rinsing the brew group is only needed once or twice a year. Aside from a program to froth milk, I would like to see this model improved by putting a metal (stainless steel or chrome) drip tray cover in-place--the plastic grid just has a cheap feel while appearing okay. The water tank will make about 4 large cups of coffee (with some water used for automatic rinses at start-up and shut-down) and the drip tray/grounds container will need to be emptied after about 6-8 cups are made. I would like to see more indicators or an LCD screen to explain what the machine needs/is doing in words. I've had to retrieve the manual to interpret the pattern of LED lights a couple times. Overall, it makes a nice consistent cup of freshly-ground coffee with a couple button presses and makes a cappuccino very easy with the LatteGo attachment. Probably the least fussy espresso machine you can buy.

A Solid Starter Espresso with Room for Improvement

Philips 2200 is a European-designed super-automatic espresso machine with a lot to offer, but also with room for improvement. Starting with the positives, this machine delivers a consistently decent espresso and the 'LatteGo' feature is a standout, making milk-based drinks a breeze. However, there are a few drawbacks. First, the coffee portions are smaller than what you'd typically find in the United States. Second, the coffee temperature leaves something to be desired, often coming out less hot than expected. Additionally, the water reservoir could benefit from a larger capacity. Finally, be prepared for a bit of a wait when you first turn it on; the machine cleans itself for 5-10 seconds and flushes water before brewing. In conclusion, if you're new to the espresso world, the Philips 2200 is a solid starting point. However, for the seasoned coffee aficionado, you may find some of its features

The machine works well enough, and you can witness the engineering when you clean the "brew group" for the first time. I'm not overly picky about my coffee; I've weaned myself off cream and sugar, for the most part. I still prefer French Press coffee to this because I can control the amount of ground, step time, and temperature. PROs: has a double shot/cup mode, has a built in grinder, and supports preground coffee. Temperature is fine, but for coffee, I add a few ice cubes to my cup before being so I can start drinking it faster.CONs: the best buy app doesn't allow line breaks on reviews, sorry! It only makes one shot or cup at a time-- double shot mode just means it runs the same cycle twice, so it takes twice as long and doesn't have the same effect as a double shot other, manual machines can make. There is no hopper for preground coffee-- you have to add one scoop of coffee at a time to the hopper, which also means there is no double shot or cup mode for ground. THE ABSOLUTE WORST PART: cleaning this thing. It's easier for me to clean a manual machine because I can see all the parts, and there aren't many parts. This machine has a different schedule for everything: clean the water tank weekly, clean the drip tray daily, fill the water tank every 1-2 days, change the filter every three months (based on usage), rinse the be group every week, clean and degrease the brew group every 1-2 months, clean the preground coffee chute every few weeks, and grease the brew group every 2+ months. All of these frequencies change based on your usage. If you let it go for too long before you clean it, there can be grounds all over the inside of the machine, including the brew group, and they stick to the grease (lubricant) on the brew group, making it very difficult to clean. I'd rather clean a manual tamp and portafilter every day. But if you like how a machine makes code and have someone else who's willing to clean the machine, but something like this. Just make sure it makes the type of drink you are looking for: espresso, coffee, cappuccino, hot water.

Excellent super auto machine. The ceramic grinder is awesome, an upgrade from my last saeco machine. The auto milk frothier is also great. Saves so much time and cleaning when making cappuccinos.

We purchased this automatic machine to replace a manual Breville machine. This has been a life changer. We initially purchased the Breville during Covid, nevahse we were working from home. Now that we have gone back to the office, i dont have time to do go through an espresso workflow every morning. The Philips provides an excellent latte and cup of coffee, honestly I can’t beleive I did all this work manually at one point — when the Philips is so good at it.

So i love the coffee function and the fresh ground coffee or the option to use pre ground coffee this provides. Also in my option the coffee option taste amazing to me. Also i love the ease of the maintenance this machine has its easy to clean out and reuse which is extremally nice. My wife on the other hand isnt in love with it because the Cappuccino function doesnt give her enough i know personal complaint but when its automated it makes it hard when you want a bigger cup then 6ozs. So she wishes we got the 1200 so that she can foam her own milk instead of it being a automatic function. Because the two conflicting views we are unsure if we are going to send it back or not because it didnt live up to my wife wants. unsure if that means we will look at the 1200 or if we are going to go with a CAFE line since that would match the rest of our kitchen appliances.

Very easy to use and setup. But i expect the coffee that comes out to be a little hotter. I used to have a kuerig before this and the coffee was piping hot. An appliance which is this much expensive should have a temperature setting

Makes a great cup of coffee and easy cappuccino. You need to follow the instructions in the user’s manual to prevent problems - such as the amount of ground coffee to use in the auxiliary ground coffee port. If you add too much coffee it falls through without brewing.
