Excellent App Radio
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This top of the line app radio has proven to be an excellent alternative to my 2003 Lexus factory radio / GPS unit. The navigation system is excellent and the software interface is very intuitive and makes it very easy to select the available apps. Updating the firmware is a snap. Implementation of the Apple CarPlay is excellent. I also had a backup camera an an XM radio adapter installed. The installation at the Doral Best Buy was timely and flawless. The technicians there are real professionals. Google AVIC-800NEX and watch the various tutorials.

Amazingly The Best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this item for about 2 months. Apple CarPlay is amazing. Updated easily. Only issue I encountered was Apple CarPlay did mess up 1 time...so far. The system notices when you go above the speed limit and is very annoying but hey...its lets you know when your illegal and that's important.

Great Pioneer AV System for Vehicle
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Original Navigation/AV system went out in Navigator. Best Buy recommended this Pioneer system for replacement. No problems with the installation and great instructions given by installer on using the new system. Wife is happy.....I'm happy!!

Pioneer Got This Right!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is a little long but I think the radio deserves more than just a few lines and it looks like this may be the first review for this radio from Best Buy. I had been looking for a new radio for my Ford F250 for several years but had not been happy with some of the reviews on most of the offerings. It just seemed there were a lot of bugs in the software or it just didn’t have enough features built into the head unit or there wasn’t a good or no interface between the radio and your cellphone. I again started shopping around several months ago and was pleased to see that the big manufactures had released some new models for 2014 so I continued my quest for the perfect radio. I picked the Pioneer 8000NEX because of the full features you get and some overall good reviews I found. I had this radio installed at Best Buy after talking to the installer Johnny. I could tell he had been doing this for many years and seemed to know his stuff. I was correct, Johnny did a great job. I can say that after almost a month with the radio it was the right one for me. I have never purchased a radio like this and the only thing I can compare it to is the factory radio in my 2011 E350. Although the factory radio is good, the Pioneer is more flexible. I looked at several other manufactures radios focusing on the Garmin maps but honestly the HERE maps that Pioneer uses are very good and as capable as the Garmin maps. They actually look cleaner in my humble opinion. Don’t want to knock Garmin, I’ve used them for many years and they are great systems but don’t let the lack of Garmin maps drive you away from Pioneer. The overall experience with the 8000 has been a good one. The sound is so much better than the stock radio. I didn’t opt for an amp or subwoofer but I really don’t think I need that. I did replace the front and rear speakers with some Pioneers. The software is incredibly deep when it comes to sound adjustments. If you get this radio make sure you dig into the sound settings before you make any negative judgments. I have tried the Bluetooth audio, thumb drive and SD card playing MP3’s, DVD/CD, and playing movies from my Galaxy S5 using HDMI/MHL adapter. It all works great. I did read some reviews about issues connecting the Samsung S5 via HDMI/MHL. All I can say is that it works for me. I purchased two short USB and HDMI extensions and had Johnny install them when he mounted the radio. Good idea because you can’t easily get to the back of the radio once the install is finished. It might not hurt to also add a couple of short RCA extensions for the two video cameras inputs. Yes, that’s correct; the radio has two camera inputs. One for normal backup and the other one can be mounted on the back of your trailer. If installed correctly you can watch your backup camera while moving down the road and then easily toggle to the second camera behind the trailer. Touch the screen or any button and the screen reverts back to the radio or GPS map, it will hold that screen for about 5 seconds and then switches back to the camera. Of course you can turn off the constant camera view using a pre-set shortcut. Some backup cameras have built-in guidelines but also have a small wire that you can cut to disable them. The 8000 has guidelines built into the backup camera software that you can turn on or off and you can also adjust them. Make sure that if you do not want guidelines pick the right camera! Some have lines that cannot be disabled. The 8000 provides no guideline options for the second camera so if you want them make sure your trailer camera has guidelines built into the camera. Also, the guidelines on the backup camera are only visible when the vehicle is in reverse, not while moving down the highway, so you get a nice clean picture. That won't be the case if the camera you buy has built-in guidelines The HDMI/MHL adapter which allows you to use several apps on the radio works great although I have only used the Pandora app. I purchased a StarTeck HDMI/MHL adapter for less than $20. There are many HDMI/MHL adapters out there so be careful, some may not work. I can launch Pandora on the phone and listen via Bluetooth audio but you don’t get full functionality on the 8000 screen and the sound quality is good but not as good when using the HDMI cable. On the other hand, using the HDMI/MHL adapter, you can select the Pandora app built into the radio and the 8000 will open the Pandora app on the S5 without touching the phone. At that time you will have full function of the Pandora app including all your stations and album art. You manipulate all the Pandora settings using the touch screen on the Pioneer…nice. The sound is great. Almost forgot, using the HDMI/MHL adapter I can also Mirror my S5 screen onto the 8000….sweet! Hands free phone works perfectly. The user interface is very easy to use. The screen is very bright but does collect finger prints and has some reflection issues but not bad. The glare mostly happens when the sun is coming straight in the windshield early in the morning. It seems to reflect off the interior. I’m thinking about getting a non-glare screen protector but it’s not that big a deal. Download the user manual and check out all the features and capabilities. I’m very happy with the new radio. Hope this review helps.

Great Audio Quality, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved this thing before I installed and after installing. However after 2 weeks of using it daily, I have several gripes. I have upgraded to the latest firmware releases. I am also connected to the Maestro RR in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. I pulled out the touch screen radio (no nav) to install this 8000-NEX. As much as I love the sound quality that comes out of Pioneer units, I really miss my OEM functionality. Of course the Pioneer can do so much more, but honestly the volume knob. I really miss the volume knob. The steering wheel controls are slow/laggy and half the time stop responding. (maybe this has more to do with the Maestro unit). The Carplay integration is ok. It seems like a last minute over lay software they added. half the time my iphone 6 will sync up with carplay but the audio that I choose to play (usually Spotify) shows its playing, but no audio from headunit. Then I have to go back to main menu, go to AV chooser and select aha radio (why? idk). but that usually gets the audio from the iphone to play over the head unit. text messaging and calling works fine for the most part. Sometimes Siri cuts me off when im giving a command and says sorry what would you like to do? (is that Apple or the cheap low quality microphone supplied from Pioneer?) I have a really hard time spending this much money for a unit that doesnt quite live up to its expectations. I love the screen resolution / picture quality. I also love the audio quality. I've had several of the other pioneer AVIC-x9xx something or other and loved them (they had volume knobs, they responded rather quickly to steering wheel controls albeit slow to boot up -- but that was expected). I've never been a fan of apple maps, but was willing to live with it for carplay. I find myself using the pioneer nav more than carplay nav. I feel like im rambling or ripping this thing apart. but for $1400 i think I can find a cheaper headunit and get higher quality speakers and amp and be thrilled. Personally im putting my stock touch screen radio back in for now until I figure out what I really want.
