This version of P & P was first produced in 1995 as six one-hour long installments and it has been previously released on VHS and DVD. The Blu-ray version went back to the original negatives and the detail in the video is remarkable (so much better than you could ever imagine if you have seen either of the previous releases). If you like this production the Blu-ray version is well worth getting. I would have liked it more if they had not retained the six 'episodes' format and had made it more continuous. It would have been possible to just have a single break between the two discs. Whenever a book is adapted for a movie something in the book is inevitably lost. There are generally two approaches that can be followed - either try to be as close as possible to the book or to just use the story in the book as a basis for a somewhat new creation. I have seen four filmed versions of P & P and I find none of them to be completely satisfactory to me (I am looking for closeness to the book). This version, being the longest, has the best chance to approach the book. The acting and filming are generally good and a few of the extras are interesting - but self-congratulary. The are just a few small artifacts resulting from generating the high resolution images from the original negatives but these are very minor and of no consequence.

The video quality is definitely superior to the dvd purchased so long ago. I was disappointed in the credits being put back in after every episode - the dvd was continuous with no credits until the end. Overall though, a small inconvenience for better quality.

Love this movie with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It is filmed beautifully and full of excellent actors!

In my opinion, this is the very best adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. All of the rest pale in comparison.

This A and E version of Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite video version hands down. I loved it so much that I would be extremely careful in loaning my copy out to people. The last person I loaned it to has not returned my copy so I went to the expense of purchasing a second copy. The crew that made this took extra trouble to ensure that everything was period appropriate; down to clothes, removing power-lines when they couldn't be avoided... The actors speak in British accent (they are for the most part British) and stay in character throughout this wonderful piece.

This is overall a great upgrade over the DVD version... the film has been remastered and the details are much clearer and the colors brighter on this version. I also love the new documentaries on here about the making of this masterpiece. However I do miss the making of documentary that was on the previous DVD version. No matter, this is THE definitive Pride & Prejudice, done faithfully and well to the original masterpiece by Jane Austen! Huzzah!

This is the best book to illustrate the negative effect of pride and prejudice when it comes to the relations between people, and it combines knowledge of life with a dynamic plot. I strongly suggest everybody to watch this movie - maybe it will be hard at first but it will definitely be worth it!

This rendition of Pride and Prejudice is faithful to the original dialogue with an excellent cast. Colin Firth is superb as Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehle is delightful as Elizabeth Bennett. All of the characters were beautifully portrayed.The scenery is lovely. Pemberley is just what I had imagined.

Best version I've seen and very addictive...have binge-watched it several times and still get different perspectives on the characters each time...must watch

This is still the best P&P made in my opinion. Wanted for my library of classics I go to when I want the program to last longer than the commercials.

This is my favorite film version of Pride and Prejudice. Colin Firth is excellent as Mr. Darcy. Definitely recommend to anyone who has never seen it.

The Very Best Version of this Classic Story as only PBS Could Present! A replacement from our old VHS Version! A definite keeper.

Great set of Blu-Ray. A must own for anyone that like things true to books.

Having watched the other version of Pride and Prejudice and then finding this one, I absolutely prefer this BBC version over the other. Even though its longer it put in more details the other version had missed.

I got this as a gift for my aunt to replace her sad, worn out VHS set. I'm still trying to warm her up to bluray but she likes the picture quality and that she doesn't have to rewind a bunch of tapes anymore.

Brilliant countryside scenery and spectacular manor estates will entice any viewer to visit England!

I have been looking for this movie on bluray for quite a while and finally it was released and at a bargain of a price. well worth it (bought it on black friday)

This is one of my daughter's favorite movies. She was looking to buy it so she can watch it over and over. Movie is a matter of preference...there are different versions.
