A Great Microphone for Work and Play
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a big gamer who also works from home, I found myself in need of a better microphone and decided to pick up the new Razer Seiren V3 Chroma Condenser USB Microphone, and I must say, I've been very pleased with it. From its sleek design, great performance and ease of set up this microphone truly stands out in a crowded market. First off, the Seiren V3 is one of the better looking gamer microphones on the market, with its sleek black exterior and eye-catching 360 degree RGB lighting, this will for sure stand out if your streaming or in a meeting. The microphone itself feels very sturdy and well-built, with a metal grill surrounding the microphone and the bottom being made of a matte finished plastic. The arm that holds the mic is also metal and you can control the tension of the swivel by rotating the hinges on the sides. The Microphone comes with 1x USB-C to USB-A braided cable, and a stand in the box. But what really matters is the performance, and the Seiren V3 does not disappoint. The condenser capsule delivers crisp and clear audio, capturing every nuance of my voice without any lag or crackling. Whether I'm talking to friends in game chat, or using it for work on a virtual meeting, the Seiren V3 ensures that my voice comes through loud and clear. I did a personal comparison between my gaming headset built-in microphone, the built-in laptop mic and the Serien, and all my teammates and co-works raved at just how much better I sounded when using the Serien V3 versus my headset or my laptop mic. My personal favorite feature of this microphone is the touch sensitive mute button on the top of the mic. When you press the mute button it changes the RGB color of the mic to all red, indicating that your mic is indeed muted. This is huge for me when I’m on a work video call and I need to mute my mic and I can visually see that it is muted and have that peace of mind that I won't accidentally say something. You can also Control the mic volume with the dial button on the front and it will change colors from green to red, with green being the highest percentage and red being the lowest volume. I also appreciate the convenience of the Seiren V3. Setting it up was a breeze thanks to its plug-and-play USB connectivity and it immediately works once you select it in the windows settings and in apps like Discord, Zoom or Teams when you are wanting to use the microphone. The built-in headphone jack is a great feature in that it allows you to hear your voice back in real-time without any annoying latency delays. To truly get the most out of this microphone you will need to download Razer’s Synapse software. In the software you will be able to control all the different settings from the microphones volume, lighting, sampling rate, filter settings, input and out settings in the mixer tab. The app is very easy to use and has helpful tips on what every different setting does, making it convenient to set up for those who are not the most knowledgeable when it comes to audio settings. In the app is also where you will control the RGB settings, and where you can customize it to your personal preference, weather it be changing the mute color, the brightness, or what how you want the RGB to look. Overall, the Razer Seiren V3 Chroma Condenser USB Microphone has exceptional audio quality, stylish design, and convenient features that make it a standout choice for anyone who needs a quality microphone that is also not just for gamers. Pros: Exceptional audio quality with crisp and clear sound. Sleek design with customizable Chroma RGB lighting. Plug-and-play USB connectivity for easy setup. Mute button changes RGB color to show its muted Built-in headphone monitoring for real-time audio playback. Compatible with a wide range of recording software and platforms. Cons: The Chroma RGB lighting may be too flashy or distracting for some users (can be turned off). Having to download Razer Synapse software to get the most out of it.

A Great Desktop Microphone for Both Work and Play
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a gamer who works fully remote, I spend most of my waking hours at my home workstation in front of a screen. Since most of my peripherals feature the stereotypical gamer RGB LEDs, I was excited to add an RGB mic to the mix for the aesthetics. Surprisingly, the Razer Seiren V3 also excelled in usability and functionality. The out-of-the-box experience was a snap. After screwing in the mic to the threaded base and connecting it to my laptop with the included USB-A-to-C cable, setup was complete. I appreciated the simple plug-and-play experience. The Razer Seiren V3, with its classy matte black finish, looks like it means business when the LEDs are off and like it's party time when the RGB LEDs are active. The overall build quality feels very premium, and the stand and angular adjustment knobs ensure the mic can be placed in any direction and will stay in place. Razer kept the controls simple: one Mic button and one control knob. One feature I appreciated was that when the RGB LEDs are active, muting turns the whole mic red providing a visual cue that you are muted. This helps avoid any unintended slip-ups during calls. If you find the RGB LEDs too distracting, a quick triple tap of the Mute button toggles these on/off, a thoughtful feature that bypasses the need to use the Razer Synapse software. Audio quality is, of course, one of the main selling points of a microphone, and the Seiren V3 does not disappoint. I conducted qualitative comparisons between my onboard mic, gaming headset, and the Seiren V3 using my DAW's. The Seiren V3 vastly outperformed the others with its default settings. The cardioid response pattern of the condenser mic excellently captured audio from the front while minimizing noise from the back. During various gaming and work calls (through Discord and Google Meets), my contacts noted a significant improvement in my audio clarity and background noise suppression. I primarily tested the mic on my Mac setup with default settings but also ran additional tests on my Windows setup to unlock the mic's full capabilities with Razer Synapse v3 software. The software's simple UI allows for various audio (filter, EQ, gain, noise gating) and lighting customizations. While the default settings were solid, it's nice to have the option to fine-tune the mic in the future as my needs change. Even without the software, primary features (mic gain, lighting effects, mute/unmute) can be adjusted through simple button taps and knob adjustments. Overall, I was very impressed by the Razer Seiren V3's well-thought-out, user-friendly features, RGB aesthetics, and solid sound quality. It is a great microphone for both work and play.

Great RGB MIC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start off by saying why I am giving this 4 stars. The main reason for me is that it sounded horrible when I plugged it in and did nothing else to it. It being a plug and play, and higher quality then my headset mic, I thought it would at least sound just as good if not better then my headset mic. But that was not the case and everyone in discord was asking me what happened to my mic. I did get it to at least sound just as nice as my headset mic with settings changed a little as shown in one of my pictures. Another thing I wished this did, when you turn the volume up or down, it changes color. Cool, but I would have also liked to have seen or have an option to for it to graph up and down. The whole mic with go from red to green for instance and as the volume goes up the whole mic will turn a color to indicate where the volume is at. I rather have it start from the bottom if volume is at 0, and then as the volume goes up, the color goes up and maybe the first couple rows would be red, and then as volume goes up change colors and also slowly go up on the mic. Last couple items are more of a software thing and maybe they will update later. But as you can see in my pictures, the one for the volume mixer, they are horizontal. I rather have them lined up vertical side by side or if they insist to keep it horizontal then it would have been nice to see them above and under each other. The software also lacks customizations for the sounds. It would be nice to be able to tune the mic a bit more, or have some fun with some different voice changers to use. easy to set up and use. (even though I had to change some things to get it to sound decent). Had no issues with Discord or OBS etc. picking it up. I love how it looks. I love that you can customize the colors for different things. If you do not like the whole RGB, then you can also just turn it off. Tap to mute. Has a few tap options but I just prefer to use the tap to mute. I also love that with the RGB the mic turns red when its muted. An easy way to know you are muted. Once I did change a couple things as well as got it so that I could hear myself talk thru it, it then sounded pretty good. If you want to hear yourself and use a USB headset. You just have to turn on the stream mixer and then for outputs select your headset and inputs you would select this mic. I also like that the plug into the mic itself is a USB-C. If you are looking for a good mic for streaming or just to use, this is a good choice. Especially if you want to add some color.

Great mic, but be mindful of your setup.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although its somewhat expensive, depending on your setup and how much you value aesthetics it can be a really good choice. It looks quite good, and quality feels even better. The RGB can be a little much sometimes, but you can turn it off should you so desire. Unfortunately you can't adjust the brightness, so it's all or nothing. Certain settings though are less obtrusive than others. The build feels really solid and well put together. Has a nice heft to it as well. The sound quality is great coming from built-in and headset microphones. The mic has a super cardioid pickup pattern, which can be a downside at times - although it picks up mostly from directly in front of the microphone, it's sensitive to sound emanating from directly behind it. Depending on your setup, this could be a minor or major issue. For me, it's a sizable issue - I have a mechanical keyboard and a very shallow desk, so regardless of whether I place the microphone to the front or rear of the keyboard it easily picks up the keyboard sound. You can place it to the side, but then it's a little further away and not ideally positioned to pickup your voice. Something else that can compound the issue is your speaking volume. I am a very soft-spoken person, and thus it becomes very difficult to find a balance where the microphone picks up my voice while rejecting the keyboard. It would also pick up my mouse clicks in certain situations as well. If you are willing to spend extra for a microphone arm, or already have one, these issues could likely be avoided - the microphone would be lifted away from the desk and thus there's less potential for contamination. Another thing to keep in mind - the 3.5mm jack on the rear of the microphone is effectively a conveniently placed headphone jack, not a monitor.

Good for gamers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right out of the box, the Razer Seiren V3 Chroma microphone is ready to go, given its plug and play design. It comes with a USB-C to USB-A cord, which I thought was a little odd in this age of C-to-C connectors, but it’s a very heavy-duty cord. The included baseplate is sturdy with a padded bottom that helps prevent surface scratching and limits movement on smooth surfaces. As someone that’s constantly in online meetings and that also records instructional videos, a good quality mic is important. Using the V3 during meetings, participants have said my voice comes across clean and uninterrupted. The sound is pretty clear sounding and steps above my headset, as long as I didn’t move or touch it during use. The mic seems to pick up vibrations of any sort easily and they come across in the audio recordings as humming and excess noise. Even just turning the button on the front or tapping the mute button on the top causes this. I’ve used the mic attached to the baseplate and also with a mic arm, with the same result, so I’m thinking the sensitivity is a slight internal design flaw. With the RGB lights on, this mic makes me the cool kid when gaming! But I admit, the lights are distracting during meetings when I’m supposed to be being serious. Installing the optional Razer Synapse software lets you control the RGB settings, which can make online gaming cooler with all the color effects it can do. You can also control audio features within the Chroma Studio section of the software. For a gamer, I’d say the V3 is worth the price point because of the clear sound when chatting and the flashy lights. But for playback recordings, I’d most likely go with a different one.

Great background noise cancelling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Razer - Seiren V3 Chroma microphone is exa tly what my son wanted for gaming and streaming. This microphone connects to your computer using usb. Once connected, when you turn it, it lights up and changes all different colors. From a visual aspect, this microphone looks really cool when lighting up. You can choose which color setting you want when you download and install the razer synapse to your pc. This microphone has a one touch mute which is located on top the microphone. I love that its on the tip of the microphone because it gives you easy access to muting without having to search for a button. You just simply tap the top. This microphone does a great job of illininating background noise from the fan on the pc and other noises in the room. This microphone also has a tilt function that allows you to tilt the microphone to your desired position. The volume is controlled by a small know that is on the front of the microphone. You have easy access to it by it being where its located. Overall this microphone looks amazing when its lit up, you can hear vocals clearly from it, it has great cancellation of background noise, has a one touch mute, and is easily installed.

The mic you don't drop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If someone would have told me 15-20 years ago that there would be such a thing as a gaming microphone, I would have said that it's a prank. Well, the joke's on me. Razer, whose gaming hardware know-how stems from decades of R&D and working with gamers, has a refreshed gaming microphone this year and it's none other than the Seiren V3 Chroma RGB. With the emergence of game streaming and podcasts, It's no wonder that many peripheral manufacturers have focused on this lucrative market. Let's see what the Seiren gets right and what isn't that great. The microphone itself is very sturdy and nicely weighed down, which makes it feel premium. It can either be used with the provided foot or used with a mechanical mic boom. I have tried both and it worked out great. The design is slick and minimalistic with only one knob for volume, a USB-C connector and a 3.5mm jack. Note that the latter will not allow you to use the Chroma RGB function. A nice feature is the top-mounted "touch button" which can mute or un-mute the sound by a simple tap. It also offers 2 or 3 taps for other functions (2 taps is cycling the Chroma RGB settings and 3 taps to adjust the digital gain limiter). While using the USB-C to USB-A cable (included in the box), you'll be able to use the gorgeous RGB function which lights up the mesh like radioactive corn (which is very cool). The hardware and software setup is a breeze. Razer has a great and solid companion app suite (Synapse, Cortex and Axon) which allows you to configure your device with ease. Note that while it remains rather simple on the surface, you can delve deeper into the settings to tune the microphone to your personal liking. The Seiren is loaded with excellent tech such as a super-cardioid condenser capsule, a maximum sample rate of 96kHz at a 24bit depth, It also has a built-in high-pass filter to manage excess noise and a compressor function which tunes out lower volume noise. On a side note, there might be a firmware update right after installation. I would suggest you update it as soon as possible to take full advantage of your new tool. In terms of sound quality, I was very pleasantly surprised with a clear and clean sound, the built-in noise dampening works very well and allows for minimal work when adding it in to a video track. Gaming is roughly the same, all my team mates could hear and understand me better than with the mic on my headset. The Chroma RGB function can - just like all other Razer devices using this technology - be adjusted to make using this mic fun and visually appealing. It can be synced to other Razer devices as usual. To be honest, it's hard not to love the Seiren. It's solid, slick and functional. It has a good amount of functions which can be adjusted to your likings and comes with a handful of useful technologies. The only thing that might hurt is the price which might look a bit high, but it is justified by the great results it provides and the overall quality of the microphone. Excellent work, Razer!

Great audio with good RGB
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Razer Seiren V3 Chroma is a decent mic. The audio quality is definitely a step above the boom mic found on my A50 and its touch controls make it easy enough to use without having to dive into the software. Besides the sound quality, the real stand out feature of this mic is the RGB on it, which is what I'm sure most people are going to be buying it for. The design of this mic isn't anything new when compared to other condenser microphones. Its about six inches tall for the mic itself and comes with its own swivel stand. If you have a mic arm, the stand can be easily removed with 2 thumb screws and used with your arm. It connects to the PC via a USB-C cable, a really nice braided one at that. I will say that I wish it came with a USB-C to USB-C instead of the USB-A as I have more free USB-C ports on my computer than otherwise. The mic is finished in a nice matte non textured paint which you can easily wipe fingerprints off of. And finally, there is a gain knob on the front that you can use to turn up or down your microphones gain, or your audio volume. This can be configured in software, and confusingly was defaulted to my headset. The mic features touch based controls on the top of it. A series of taps will result in different things. A single tap will mute and unmute the mic, which results in red or green to let you know it's working. Two taps will cycle through different RGB schemes with my personal favorite being Fire. Three taps will turn the RGB on or off, and finally a long press will let you switch between audio volume and microphone gain. There is no good indication for that one which setting its on, so its usefulness is pretty limited unless you already know. The knob on the front has a nice effect to it that lets you know your volume with visual cues. So, if you're at max volume and you turn the knob down, the colors on the mic will go from that Razer green down to bright red. Same for the microphone volume. The audio quality on this was very good. My A50 mic has what I consider decent audio for a headset, but it's nothing to write home about. This mic on the other hand had much better quality. As my one friend said, "it sounds like you're doing a podcast". I'm no audiophile but I'll take that as a good thing. Listening back to my own playbacks I can tell it has more range and most notably it picks up lows better than my headset. The software to run this thing is a bit of a mixed bag. I do have to give props to Razer though for no longer making user accounts a requirement. I was able to quickly install the software (directly from the device, didn't even need to go to a website) and start changing things by simply clicking 'continue as guest'. Once inside, I was prompted that I needed to update the firmware. It then redirected me to a site instead of doing it through the software. Once all the updates were done, I found the UI inside Synapse for this to be a little convoluted. The first page is for the Mic Settings and multifunction sensor. Here you will find the toggle for the front dial, as well as the mic and headset volume (which I have no idea why audio volume is here in the first place). It includes features that you can mess with such as sampling rate, high pass filter, advance gain settings, radio voice EQ and noise gate. What I would have liked to have seen here was noise cancellation of some kind as this thing will pick up noise from across the room, and very clearly at that. These settings are fine. The next tab has Stream Mixing settings, and I'm personally not into all that so I didn't use it. It seemed to have settings so you can mix multiple input sources, but that's beyond my use case so I didn't bother with it. Finally, the lighting, and where I ran into the only real issue I had with this thing. The Mic has an RGB settings for audio level. This lets you select between your microphone input volume and audio volume, and the level of that sound will reflect with the RGB on the device. I thought this feature would be really useful for dialing in the gain, but I couldn't get it to work. No matter what setting I used, how much I yelled into the mic, the RGBs stayed off and I had to do the buddy assist on discord to figure out the right level of volume for the mic. Not a deal breaker but a really handy feature I would have liked to have used with it. Overall, this is a very solid microphone for those that want a simple plug and play USB microphone experience. I'm sure there are more complex setups out there that use multiple devices to give you more fine-tuned control over your audio, but this thing is almost perfect for those that want a simple setup with good audio quality.

Great Little Compact USB Condenser Mic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Razer's new Seiren V3 Chroma Condenser USB Microphone is really good. There are several reasons this particular mic is really good. Lets start with the overall look of the USB microphone. The mic looks and feels premium. Its not too big or too small, it fits right in. The RGB lighting adds a little flare, but by day I also use it for work. The size and overall design is just right for me. The included stand is sturdy and small enough fit perfectly on my desk. Razer included a braided USB-C to USB-A cable that is long enough to place anywhere on the desk. Since the Seiren V3 is a super cardioid mic, its best to place it directly in front of you. There's also an 3.5mm headphone input to monitor your volume with a mic gain/ volume control knob. Moving on to the software, this is where this mic really shines. After downloading the Razer Synapse software, there was a update for the mic. Best to check as this will further improve the mic's performance. After the software downloaded, first thing I did was adjust the sampling rate to 96 kHz and adjusted the mic and headphone values to my liking. Also, being able to change the front dial controls on the fly is really cool. Mic volume or Headphone volume comes in handy for those late night gaming sessions, or virtual work meetings. The Stream mixer options comes deselected by default. When turned on, it gives multiple options for streamers. I cant wait to explore this option more in the future. Changing the lighting effects are more simple from the Synapse software. By default when you tap the mic once the mutes and turns red for a couple seconds. Tapping it again unmutes. The biggest flaw of the mic is the multiple tap function. I can never be too sure what's going on beside mute and unmute. Sometimes my touches doesn't register. I actually performed a reset to the mic on accident trying go through all the options. I would recommend using the software for changing the effects. As the tap multi-function brings me a certain level of frustration. At the price point of the USB mic, you really cant go wrong with this one. Plus it has really great software options to match. With an overall premium look and feel, with one down side which is the tap controls. Not sure if this could be remedied by a future software update. If not, the Synapse will be able to handle everything you throw at it.

Great performance, customization, and that RGB!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On first impression, I’d say this is a simple-looking microphone. That is, until it is connected via USB-C and the RGB lighting comes alive and changes all that. Yes, it looks very cool, but about functionality and how does it perform? The microphone is plug-and-play, so just connecting to any PC’s USB-A port will make it work. Right out of the box, the microphone’s super cardioid condenser picks up very nicely when in front of it at about 24-32 inches. My voice sounded rather full and natural, without being shrill or poppy. It isolates sounds coming from the sides and rear well, and the internal shock absorber does a decent job. Unfortunately, it also picks up keystrokes, especially mechanical ones, but that’s expected when the mic is on the table. The good news is that it is easily mountable on a boom arm, and that resolves that problem quite nicely. The mic features a convenient haptic button on top that turns the light red when muted. It also serves as an RGB mode selector and gain-limiter signal (for peeking). There is a 3.5mm jack in the back for a headphone monitor and the volume is controlled via the knob in the front by default but can be switched to gain by long pressing the mute button. But where the functionality and performance increases are with Razer’s Synapse software, which I would highly recommend installing. While I would admit that the software is not as intuitive as I would like, it does provide a robust amount of customization. There, you can tweak gain, tone, stream volume, bit rates, and of course Chroma RGB modes. For the suggested retail price, I am quite impressed. The mic is well built, the RGB is nicely implemented, and it can be quite portable by removing the bottom, making it a very versatile microphone.

Fantastic USB mic with RGB
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Razer Seiren V3 is the fantastic usb microphone. In terms of audio quality, you can only expect so much from usb however the multiple hardware enhancements as well as the software enhancements built into the Razer software, elevates the quality of your voice to a significant extent. I was easily able to thread it into my existing mic mount. The Seiren has a touch sensor on the very top of the mic that is used for one-tap muting your mic however it can also be programmed to do multiple other things such as changing or disabling the color scheme or adjusting your gain on the fly. Personally, I find the rainbow RGB can be pretty distracting for a mic so I'm glad I can turn it off easily but also turn it on whenever i'm feeling some RGB. I will say that this physical quality of this mic does feel pretty cheap. The mic is concerningly lightweight and feels like pretty cheap plastic. However, it makes it super easy to transport and move around because of this. Overall, I'm very happy with the Razer V3 Seiren. The audio quality is great as well as the software also impressed me.

Great Audio But The Software...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Seiren V3 Chroma is a well-built microphone. It came with the most heavy-duty USB-A cable. Unboxing the microphone you are greeted with the microphone itself, cords, a baseplate, and instructions. The usual with a microphone these days. You can position it on a table. I prefer the mic-arm method. It has a universal mic attachment mounting thread. There wasn't much movement or drop on the mic arm from the weight. The microphone itself is excellent and premium. It has a heavy plastic feel to it. You get some minor adjustments with the baseplate. It has a big giant mute button on top. The audio experience out of the box was phenomenal. I hadn't heard my voice recorded unfiltered in a while. The voice that played back was clear. No background noise or anything. As a plug-in-play microphone, I don't see it getting any better than this. You get a clean recorded playback with no effects. The software was the biggest letdown for me. First off, this microphone is mainly for gamers and it has a lot of RGB and effects. The Razer Synapse software is what controls and guides all of that. A lot of flashy colors if you're into that. I like simple and easy. That isn't what this software came across. It had too much customization inside the software. Yet, no VST plugins or stuff to enhance outside of the basics. I didn't feel this was much for production and mainly tailored toward gaming. As long as you know that upfront. Along with the app came a lot of background tasks and operations in the background. I didn't care for that. Outside of that if you are a gamer and you like RGB. If you want a clear-quality microphone, this might be for you!

This micophone looks sharp, sounds mid
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this is a halfway decent microphone. If you like the fancy colors, I expect you’d be happy with it. For gamers or discord chatters, this is a good choice. If you are recording a podcast or something like that, you might want something with better noise isolation and improved vocal clarity. If you intend to hold the microphone in your hand like a Gen Z YouTuber, definitely steer clear. This mic works best sitting on a desk or mounted on a stand out of range of any touching or bumping. UNBOXING The microphone came in a standard cardboard box. I appreciate that a printed quick-start guide was included so I didn’t have to search online to figure out the basic features. And this one was printed with incredibly nice paper and metallic ink—a neat touch. The box also included the obligatory Razer stickers. CONSTRUCTION The first thing I noticed is that the mic itself is much lighter than I would have expected. The stand, and especially the base, are heavy and sturdy enough, but the microphone housing itself is plastic with not much inside. This was a red flag because usually a microphone housing like this would be weighted to minimize unwanted vibrations. See below about the sound quality. Other than that, the product looks great. The touch panel on top and the volume knob front and center feel nice and seem to be responsive. The included desk stand is in two pieces: a weighted base with rubber pad on the bottom, and a fork that affixes to the microphone via a screw knob on each side. There’s a standard microphone screw mount on the bottom of the fork as well as the bottom of the mic itself, so it’d be easy to mount on a different mic stand if you choose. COMPATIBILITY The specifications indicate that this product requires Windows 10. I was pleased to find out that this is not entirely true. The microphone registers without drivers through any USB port (tested with MacOS), so presumably you only need Windows 10 if you want to install the Razer software that lets you do fancy things with the lights. Even without downloading the software, the product is quite functional, including basic light modes. It shows up as an input device as well as an output device (more on the headphone jack below). The included cable, for some reason, is a USB A to USB C. The mic has a USB C jack on it and expects a USB A port on your computer. I assume you could substitute a standard USB C cable but I didn’t try it. SOUND For a microphone that retails for $130, one might expect halfway decent sound quality. “Halfway” is about all you’re going to get from this. The overall design is modeled after a traditional large diaphragm vocal mic, the standard in the recording industry for decades because of its beautiful clarity and warmth for vocal sounds. However, this is not a large diaphragm mic; it contains a smaller condenser element. Nothing wrong with condensers in general, but they don’t have the richness of the kind of mic you’d traditionally see in this form factor. That said, this is a decent condenser mic. I did an A/B test with my Zoom H4n professional field recording mic which also has condenser elements. The Zoom gives a crisp, bright, and accurate sound as one would expect from a good condenser. The Razer lacks some of the highs and lows in comparison, and my voice sounded a little bit flatter. Assuming this microphone would be used for vocals, it nonetheless offers a fair performance. With a supercardioid pickup pattern, this microphone is reasonably directional. It cuts back on room noise (fans, echos, other people) and is most sensitive directly in front of the mic (note, “front” is the side with the volume knob on it). This is a good thing. However, with the light plastic housing, plenty of noise still gets through in the form of vibrations. Any time I touched the mic I could hear it being bumped and jostled. The worst came through any time I moved the cable: any vibrations there sounded like they went straight through to the microphone element. Likewise, adjusting the knob or tapping the button on top could easily translate unwanted noise into the microphone, so I would expect to not use these features while using the mic if sound accuracy were important. The integrated pop filter helps cut back on wind noise but it is not perfect, especially if the vocalist is very close to the mic. Under normal use, though, I don’t expect that this would be a problem. After testing, I was still curious what was actually going on inside the case, so I took it apart. The condenser element is a little bit larger than I expected (larger is usually better in this case) at roughly 12mm diameter. And, to my surprise, there’s actually a rubber noise isolation ring around the element. It doesn’t do much in my estimation, but at least they tried. (I’d hate to hear how noisy this would be without it!) HEADPHONE JACK The specifications claim that this product has a “headphone monitoring jack.” Based on this name, I would assume that the microphone sound could be monitored directly through the headphones, and adjusted with the level control knob on the unit. That’s not how this works. The headphone jack is simply direct sound from your computer, no internal monitoring of the microphone. Of course you can do monitoring with software, but it seems like there’s a missed opportunity here. So, what you’re getting here is a conveniently located headphone jack with a physical volume control right on the mic. However, given how much vibrational noise gets passed to the mic from the cord plugged into it, I would definitely not recommend using this feature. Just plug your headphones into your computer or your monitor. In my testing, the headphone jack was also quite noisy, with a hiss and a hum audible when I turned up the level. FEATURES This microphone lights up!! Honestly, even though this isn’t a big part of my review, I think the RGB lights are probably a big selling point here, and a large part of what you’re paying for in the price. Out of the box there are a few light modes, including either a solid color of a fade from one color to the next. With the downloadable software there are some truly impressive light modes, including game synchronization and matching your other Razer devices. For the user who is into this kind of thing, the color options could be very cool. I was pleased to see that the volume knob was well considered. It works at the software level, not just a physical volume control, which means there’s feedback to your computer about the level, and levels can be adjusted seamlessly with either computer settings or knob adjustments. The knob alternately controls microphone level or headphone level by tapping the button on top. Overall, I was not particularly impressed with the sound quality, but it is a huge step up from a headset mic or a mic built into a monitor or camera. For something that looks fancy (from a distance—no touching!) this is your product.

Now with more unicorn rainbow vomit!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's only so much you can expect out of a USB mouse, that being said, if you want to up the quality of your voice feed when chatting and gaming or want something good that isn't going to complete break the bank to get you started with podcasting or streaming, The Seiren V3 Chroma is a good place to start. This mic uses a Super Cardioid pickup pattern, that's a fancy way to say it's built to pickup sounds in front of the mic, while reducing the amount of sound that it picks up from behind the mic. That said, if you are using a Mechanical Keyboard with Tactile Clicky Switches, it's going to hear every single keystroke weather you like it or not. Thankfully the touch sensor on the top of the mic is a mute toggle. When muted the whole mic glows bright red so you know. This is possibly my favorite feature of the unicorn rainbow vomit capable 'Chroma' features the Seiren V3 has. My second is the audio monitor that makes it glow from green/yellow/red as your speaking into it indicating peaks and helping you keep your pitch/tone/volume in check so the recording stays clear for those listening. That Mute toggle on top can also be set to do a few other things. A long press will change the function of the knob on front between adjusting the mic volume, or adjusting the headphone out volume for those that use a pair of headphones to monitor your mic. Double and triple tapping the button both can be set to different toggles. Changing the chroma pattern, turning on advanced gain controls, toggling chroma effects on and off entirely etc. I'm extremely happy with the quality of the mic overall, it's build is a soft touch plastic keeping it pretty light with most of the weight in the included base. The lighting effects are bright and colorful, and if desired can be synced up with the rest of your Chroma enabled accessories. If you're using the quick effects in the settings, you can also toggle a setting to prevent other apps and games from controlling the lighting of the mic which is nice when you have it set to light up in response to sound. As a bonus, I tested the Mic out plugged into my iPad, and while obviously you lose the customizations in Synapse, it just works without any problems. So that's a nifty bonus.

Interesting idea, let down by odd controls
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Razer Seiren v2 USB Condensor microphone brings RGB to external microphones. It's an interesting idea let down by some odd choices in execution. -= In the Box =- In the box is the Razer Seiren v2 microphone, a braided USB A to USB C cable, and the mounting base. -= First Impressions =- Like all Razer products the Seiren looks cool. Has a good weight and looks premium - probably because of the matte black finish. There is excellent weight to the Seiren base. The volume control dial has the right resistance to feel like it's quality and there's a headphone jack on the rear. -= Setup =- There's two parts to setup, hardware and software. Hardware, screw on the base and your done. But to get the most value and flexibility you need to install the (free) Razer Synapse software. Installation is quick, you are prompted to create an account but it's not necessary so you can use this as a guest. More on the Synapse software later. -= What's Good =- Audio recording is clear. I tested in game (via Discord) and in a call and there were no complaints or issues. According to everyone I was talking to, it was clear, well balanced, and no issue. The RGB colors are fun, I set mine to be default audio level indicators, which is surprisingly useful and helpful. I also don't mind a bright backlit red microphone to indicate it's muted. Cool. -= What's Not So Good =- The controls for the Seiren are all touch controls on the top of the microphone. Tap 1x to mute, tape 2x for the RGB options, tap 3x times to turn off RGB effects. I found the taps not responsive and there was a weird lag-delay. It's also not intuitive, years of being around audio engineers has condition me to not go tapping microphones. Yes, you can customize all of this via the Synapse software and yes, you can use your normal software for mute/unmute etc. FYI, there's also no custom cardiod settings for the microphone. If you don't know what this means, these are settings you would want on a microphone if you're using it for recording podcasts, interviews, or in a noisy environment. The absence of cardiod settings is not necessarily bad, but something you should know if you want to use the Seiren for more than gaming. -= Final Thoughts =- I really thought hard about whether the Seiren was a 3 or 4. I love Razer products as a rule. But the poor touch controls are a bit disappointing. If you are a fan of RGB though and want RGB everywhere and you don't think you'll want to adjust settings on the microphone itself and are happy to use the Synapse software, then this could be the perfect microphone for you.
