This is my honest review for the 2 Ring Indoor Plug-In 1080p Security Camera (2nd - Generation), which I purchased at Best Buy on Oct. 5, 2023 at the then Sale price of $29.99 (regularly $59.99). Not even 30 days yet, and one of the Ring totally stopped working on October 23. I was unable to return it, I was told that the return period ended on Oct 20, 2023 (not even 30 days yet). There's not too many things you can possibly do to troubleshoot why the Ring Indoor Plug-in cam just suddenly died. The only thing you can do is to press the button on the top center, and that was not responding at all. So I did the process of elimination on the power cable -- I replaced the cable from the good camera, still not working; I then replace the usb adapter from working camera, still not working. I tried holding the center button several times at varied intervals and many countless attempts but nothing happened. It's totally unresponsive. I bought this Ring indoor camera after I read the Forbes review on this product but later found out there are so many important things the writer didn't mention or more likely intentionally omitted on that biased review. One of them notably is that Ring Indoor Plug-in camera does not have the capability to store recordings locally on a memory card, it does not have a memory card slot. And the other specially important thing -- you are totally dependent on the cloud subscription of $3.99/month/device for Basic (so for 2 cameras it costs 7.98/month) or you can opt for Plus Subscription which is $10/month for all your Ring devices at one location, or Pro Home Security subscription at $20/month for all your devices. Even for the sale price of $29.99 it's way too expensive for that price and totally not worth that price. There are so many other better products. I thought I did my due diligence before purchasing Ring Indoor camera but I relied on a biased review instead of comparing the features with other possible camera alternatives. I didn't want to buy another Ring Indoor camera to replace the dead one. So I opted for a competitor camera which costs only $16 at the time (even at it's current price of $19 is a much better if not best buy than Ring) and have way more better features than this Ring indoor camera. Competing product has a microSD slot which allows you to record locally and provides a Free Basic plan subscription, or you can subscribed to their Cam Plus, Cam Protect, and Home Monitoring. The other competing cam obviously is a better choice than Ring Indoor camera. I just trashed away the 2 Ring Indoor cameras. Disclaimer: I do not work for neither Ring nor competing products and I received no compensation from either one. I was invited by BestBuy to participate in a raffle if I do a review on this item which I purchased. What I share here is my honest review irregardless of whether I win the raffle or not.

Picture quality is great. Thats where the positives end. It’s so light weight it’s hard to get it to stay in the spot you want. The weight of the cord will shift, or a mouse will sneeze, and then you’re an hour from home and now looking at spotted lantern fly rub it’s felony existence in your face as it climbs up nana’s face on canvas instead of watching your dogs as they question their life choices. After the 30 day free ring protect trial (so make sure the return policy is longer), you find out your camera is pretty much useless. It can’t even record and store for just a day. All you can do is login live. Mine keeps jumping off of wifi as well. The privacy blind is nice, but it’ll say it’s closed even when it’s open. And every time you close it, you have to wake it up and put it in setup mode, then the connecting back to the internet. Sometimes it’s quick and painless, other times not so much. These cameras need more weight to their bases. They’re cheap, lightweight plastic. They also need various mounting brackets. When the privacy cover opens, it should immediately reconnect it to wifi. But the biggest problem with ring products is paying $100 a year to be able to use the basic features of products you already spent hundreds on is ridiculous. Do 24 hour storage for free. If you want more, then buy more. I’ll be checking out other alternatives. I already returned these.

      Hi DogMom.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with the device in regards to installation and connection. Indoor Cam (2nd Gen.) is a small, lightweight security camera with flexible mounting options specifically designed to be used indoors. Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen.) can be mounted anywhere indoors on its own stand or can be mounted to a wall or ceiling. We recommend that you follow these steps for wall and ceiling installation:
Slide down to unlock and remove the mounting plate.
      Install the mounting plate.
Slide Indoor Cam onto mounting plate.
      Adjust the camera angle.

A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

Usually, devices falling offline repeatedly is related to poor WiFi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss. To determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to determine if your network can support Ring devices. In edition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance.

If your networking equipment hasn’t been power cycled in a while, try unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Wireless networks utilize different channels for communication. In the United States, the 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1-11 and the 5 GHz band uses channels 36-165. In some cases, setting up your Ring device(s) can fail due to wireless interference or congestion.

I purchased this today at Best Buy, driving 4 hours through the snow round trip. I got home and wasted an hour trying to set this up and then with customer support only to be told by them that the camera is defective and to not buy products from Best Buy, to go straight to Ring’s website. No thank you, i will just stick with Nest and I love Best Buy. I Googled the wifi connection problems with Ring and apparently it is a very common and widespread problem, not just a defective camera. I will be emailing Best Buy and letting them know that Ring customer service is trying to divert customers away.

      Hi HeatherG.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of a seamless setup process so that you can begin using your Ring Indoor Cam right away. The security features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam are incredibly valuable to your peace of mind, and receiving a defective device is not the experience we want any of our neighbors to encounter during the purchase process. We would love the opportunity to provide you with a concrete resolution today.

It sounds like your Ring Indoor Cam is failing to connect to your home's wifi network. Below are some common causes and ways to resolve setup failure if you're receiving a 'Setup did not complete' message and cannot finish setup:

Your Ring device is too far from your wifi router. Ideally, your router should be within 20 feet of your Ring device. Try bringing the device closer to your router during setup.
There's a possible issue related to your wifi modem or router. Try rebooting your router and attempting the setup again.

If you've tried addressing the above troubleshooting steps and still cannot get your device connected, we invite you to visit our support center for additional wifi troubleshooting steps.

It sounds like your device fell offline and has not been able to reconnect. There are a number of things that can cause a wifi device to disconnect from your home network. Here are some of the top reasons why your Ring devices may be offline:

You recently changed your wifi network, wifi password, or internet service provider (ISP).
Your wired Ring device may not be receiving power, is unplugged, or the power is out.
Your Ring device may be too far from your wifi router.
Your Ring Chime Pro or wifi extender may be unplugged.

If you have checked the issues above and your device is still not connecting to your home's wifi network, please reach out to our support team for additional troubleshooting steps.

We understand the importance of a seamless setup process so that you can begin using your Ring Indoor Cam right away. The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. It sounds like your Ring Indoor Cam is failing to connect to your home's wifi network. We recommend restarting your router. If you still have issues connecting to your home wifi, try the steps below.

Make sure you're entering the correct password. Passwords are case-sensitive and do not include spaces. Your network password can often be found on the bottom or side of your router.

Make sure your password doesn't have any special characters. If your password contains characters like an asterisk (*), pound sign (#), or exclamation mark (!), remove them by changing the password in your router's settings. If you do not have access to these settings, contact your internet service provider to change the password.

Ring Indoor camera works fine but was misled by associate about video recording length, which is what I was mainly looking for. Went back and talked with manager and informed him of initial purchase and no apology or nothing. Will probably not be doing business at the Findlay, Ohio location again. Ended up purchasing a video recording device on Amazon for cheaper than the indoor camera and extra service plan for a 2nd Ring device.

      Hi Steve.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there is some concern regarding the recording abilities of the Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Generation). If your wired Ring security camera detects a motion event and you have a Ring Protect Plan, your device will record the motion for a set amount of time based on your video recording length setting.

On most Ring wired cameras, the video recording length is set to auto. The Auto setting makes your recordings smarter, enabling your camera to record when motion begins and stop recording when it stops detecting the motion. Motion can be recorded for up to 120 seconds with this setting. Visit our support center for more information.

The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are eager to address the issue you raised in your review and provide you with a resolution today.

It sounds like your device is not connecting to your home wifi. If you're having repeated issues setting up your Ring device—like connecting to the Ring device's temporary network or your home wifi—try the steps below to troubleshoot:

Test distances. Your Ring device may be too far from your router. If your Ring device is battery-powered, or if you can move it from the mounting location, try bringing it a few feet closer to your router before setup.

Reboot your modem or router. For optimal performance, we suggest rebooting once a month.

If you are still having trouble after checking all of this out, visit our support center or contact our support team for additional troubleshooting steps.

      Hi dee1.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a consistent wifi connection to your Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen.). Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity around your home. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the connection issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not operating as intended. To determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to determine if your network can support Ring devices. Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

For more information on your Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen.), we invite you to reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their personal feedback and experiences with Ring. We look forward to hearing from you if we can be of any further assistance!

    Camera sends constant motion alerts

Camera doesn’t integrate well with Ring security system. Nonstop alerts and you can’t setup the system to only send you the alerts when you are out and quiet the when you are home. Rings answer is to snooze the alerts thru the app multiple times a day which is time consuming and annoying for me.

      Hi SuzanneA.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand how critical it is for your Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) to notify you of meaningful motion events where the device is installed. Being able to customize the alerts you receive is an important feature of Ring devices. We are here today to provide you with information to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like your Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) is giving you too many alerts when you are at home. With an active Ring Protect subscription, you have the ability to use the modes feature to control the behavior of your Ring security cameras, video doorbells, and alarm. The idea is to configure your cameras and doorbells to protect your home in different ways, depending on your current needs. For instance, if you are staying in for the night, you can set your indoor devices to 'Disarmed' and your outdoor devices to 'Home'. Your indoor movements won't trigger motion detection, while your doorbell and cameras outside will still alert you if motion is detected. Then, all of your devices, including Ring Alarm if you have one, will work as a single ecosystem with one tap of a button.

There are three different modes available to control the state of your home: disarmed, home, and away. Follow these steps to activate modes:

      Tap the menu (≡).
      Tap Settings.
      Tap Enable Modes.
Tap the mode you want to configure.
Set how you want your devices to behave in that mode.

Hard to rate because their shipper never delivered the product and will not refund or replace the items. Purchase somewhere with better customer service and reliable shippers such as Amazon.

Hi WayneJ, I know it can be frustrating to encounter technical issues. Your Ring Indoor Cam shouldn't stop working after only 2 weeks. Make sure it is plugged into a working power outlet, then try performing a reset by holding down the setup button for 20 seconds. Attempt a new setup in the Ring app using the steps under Set Up a Device. That should do the trick for you. If it doesn't, you can find contact information for our support team here https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036196372. Hi JamesC.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand how important it is to have good video quality from your home security devices. Being able to rely on the video to clearly see visitors at your home is an essential feature of the Ring Indoor Cam. We would like to ensure you are getting the most from your device.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the video quality you are experiencing with your device. The Ring Indoor Cam is designed to provide up to 1080p HD video. If you’re seeing heavy pixilation in your video, this may be due to slow wifi speeds. We recommend following these steps to run a wifi speed test:

Turn off your mobile phone’s cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
      Tap Devices.
      Select your device.
      Tap Device Health.
Under Tools, tap Test Your Wifi.
Tap Start to run a test that will measure your upload and download speeds.
Both upload and download speeds should be at least 1 Mbps or greater, but 2 Mbps or above is ideal.
Check the numbers on your wifi speed test. If either your upload or download speed is below 1 Mbps, then you might consider replacing your router (especially if it's older than five years). Contact your internet service provider to learn more about getting newer equipment and faster speeds.
