It always misses the important moments.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently installed a Ring Security Camera, hoping for a reliable security solution. However, my experience has been quite disappointing for several reasons: Inconsistent Recording: The camera only records for a short duration when motion is detected. This poses a significant problem as it often misses crucial moments. For instance, if a criminal triggers the motion sensor but conducts their wrongdoing a few minutes later, the camera fails to capture the important part of the incident. Limited Storage: Although Ring advertises a 180-day video storage period, the default setting is only 60 days. This discrepancy led to the loss of vital evidence I needed for an ongoing lawsuit, as I was under the impression that my videos were stored for the advertised 180 days. Poor Customer Service: The customer service regarding these issues has been poor. There's no effective way to resolve problems or get assistance. This lack of support adds to the frustration of dealing with an unreliable product. Overall, the Ring Security Camera Doorbell has proven to be a waste of money and resources. Given its performance, a dummy camera would have been just as effective. I cannot recommend this product to anyone seeking a dependable security solution.

Ring Spot light Camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This will be my third install within a few month. The first Camera was faulty (Powered off and never came back on) the second isn’t picking up all motion, and won’t start connected, and it was also improperly installed, so it keeps falling, and dangling by its cord. Spotlight Camera Doubles
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved my Ring products, doorbell and two spotlight cameras until now. I purchased the cameras and accompanying solar panels in late Nov. 2023. My house faces South. I can't keep one of the cameras on-line even with a full charge and solar energy no matter how warm or cool it is. A full charge with solar does not last 24-hours. Given my holiday travels I'm past the return window.

It sounds like the battery in your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus is draining quickly. The rechargeable battery can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. If your battery life is still relatively short even with a Ring solar panel with plenty of direct sunlight, motion events are probably draining the power. Try adjusting your motion sensitivity slider and optimizing your motion frequency.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here to provide you with some education to resolve the battery life issue you mentioned in your review.
It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal battery-life performance. The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more your battery is used. Using "Live View" can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner.
To prevent excessive activity, under "Motion Settings" for your device in the Ring app, you can:
Adjust your "Motion Sensitivity" slider to a lower sensitivity.
Redraw your "Customization Motion Zones."
Change "Motion Frequency" to regularly or periodically.
You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.
You can go to "Power Settings" in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.
To access "Power Settings," open the Ring app:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the dashboard.
Tap "Devices."
Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check.
Tap "Power Settings" to check your "Battery Level" percentage and "Feature Power Usage."
Tap a feature to adjust "Snapshot Capture," "Motion Frequency," and "Video Recording Length.".
The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus comes with a Dual Power Mode. Switching from Wired Mode to Battery Mode and back can be done at any time by manually updating your preference in your Ring device’s settings. Please note, if you are using only a battery in Wired Mode the battery will drain very fast.
To manually switch between Wired Mode and Battery Mode:
Open the Ring app.
Tap the Menu (☰).
Tap Devices.
Select the Devices you want to update.
Tap Device Settings.
Select General Settings.
Select Power Mode.
Switch to Wired Mode or Battery Mode.

Tap Devices.
Select the device you'd like to adjust.

As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring Doorbells and Security Cameras may experience several issues, including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality. Knowing at what temperature batteries will start to be impacted can help you take the necessary steps to keep your device working. When the temperature drops to:
36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently.
32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery.
-5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up.
When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.
We recommend using the Ring Solar Panel to assist with extending the life of the battery in your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus.

We understand how critical it is to be able to monitor the comings and goings of your home while the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus stays connected to your home’s wifi network properly. The features and technology provided by the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love to assist you with this today to ensure your Ring device is performing optimally.
It sounds like your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus has a poor wifi connection. The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus requires a high-speed wifi connection. It is recommended that your wifi speeds allow for 2 Mbps per Ring device. Here are a couple of things you can try to improve the wifi signal to your device:
If possible, try moving your router to another location or moving your Ring device closer to your router. The ideal distance between a router and Ring device is under 20 feet.
If your wifi router has an adjustable antenna, try pointing it in different directions and testing the signal strength to see which works best.
Consider upgrading your router, especially if it's more than a few years old.
Trace the path from your router to your Ring device. If there are any large items made of metal (such as large appliances) or large glass containers (such as an aquarium) directly between them, try moving them out of the way to reduce interference.
Visit our support center if additional information is needed.

It sounds like the video you are seeing is not as clear as you would like. One of the main causes of poor video quality is low wifi speeds. We recommend running a speed test to see if this is what is causing your poor video quality. Follow these steps to run a wifi speed test:
Turn off your mobile phone’s cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (☰).
Tap "Devices."
Select your device.
Tap "Device Health."
Under Tools, tap "Test Your Wifi."
Tap "Start" to run a test that will measure your upload and download speeds.
Both upload and download speeds should be at least 1 Mbps or greater, but 2 Mbps or above is ideal.
Check the numbers on your wifi speed test. If either your upload or download speeds are below 1 Mbps, then you might consider replacing your router (especially if it's older than five years). Contact your internet service provider to learn more about getting newer equipment and faster speeds.

Turn off your mobile device's cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device. Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap “Devices.” Select your device. Trigger an event on your Ring device. This could mean pressing the button on a doorbell or activating the motion sensors on a camera. Answer the event and examine the resulting video.
We have listed some possible outcomes from this test here:
1. The footage is crisp and clear.
If your video appears good when next to the router, the issue may be caused by a disruption in between your router and your Ring device’s normal location. To fix this, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.
2. The footage is heavily pixelated.
If you’re seeing heavy pixilation, even next to the router, this may be due to slow wifi speeds. Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance.

Waste Of Money!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is HORRIBLE!!! May 2023, I bought this spotlight camera hardwired so I would not have to change the batteries. Within a month after it was unstalled, the camera no longer responds to the hardwire connection. So, the camera is running on battery power. After numerous calls to Ring CSR management, I received an extra battery for the malfunctional camera. Ring repair team is suppose to contact me with a resolution, but have not. I continually call them for updates, but supposedly they are still working on the issue. I received a replacement spotlight camera, but I am having the same issues. As of Oct 2023, still no updates from Ring repair team. Since the camera is not connecting to an electrical power source I am not able to use this product as advertised, which is extremely frustrating. Like I told Ring CSR, I will NEVER buy Ring products again or recommend Ring products to anyone!!!!!! Such a waste of money!!!!!

Posted .Hi Chillie. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. It sounds like the device is not operating as intended. Spotlight Cam Plus, Battery, Wired, Solar, or Plug-In, is an outdoor security camera that can be used to capture out-of-sight areas and blind spots. It’s equipped with Color Night Vision, customizable Motion Detection, and Motion-Activated Lights. Just mount the wireless camera and adjust the viewing angle for wide coverage throughout the day or night. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance.
The more events captured by your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus, the more your battery is used. Using Live View often can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner. To prevent excessive activity, under Motion Settings for your device in the Ring app you can:
Adjust your Motion Sensitivity slider to a lower sensitivity.
Redraw your Customizable Motion Zones.
Change Motion Frequency to regularly or periodically.
You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.
You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.
To access Power Settings, open the Ring app:
Tap menu (≡) on the top left of the Dashboard.
Tap Devices.
Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check.
Tap Power Settings to check your Battery Level percentage and Feature Power Usage .
Tap a feature to adjust Snapshot Capture, Motion Frequency and Video Recording Length.

It sounds like your device continuously falls offline. We recommend that if your networking equipment hasn’t been power cycled in a while, try unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Once this has been done, to determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to determine if your network can support Ring devices. The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus requires at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. Visit our support center if additional troubleshooting steps are needed.

Dissatisfied
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought 4 spotlight cams and one doorbell camera last year. The motion sensors are horrible. Cars parked in front of my house don't register, people come to my front door, and I have no idea they're there. No notifications, no doorbell sound. Then I get a missed doorbell message on the app. Plus the clarity of the video is terrible. I am very disappointed with this product.

We understand how important it is for your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus to function consistently and reliably, so you are alerted to any wanted or unwanted activity in or around your home. The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus was designed to activate based on your specific needs. We can definitely assist you with this today, and we are confident we can find the correct settings for your home’s environment.
It sounds like your device is not detecting the motion you are wanting it to. The positioning of your device will have a large impact on motion detection. Your camera can be mounted on an outdoor wall, eave, or overhang. For optimal motion detection, mount the camera about 3 feet (1 meter) from the middle of the entry point and about 10 feet (3 meters) above the ground. Once you've ensured your device is positioned properly, you can customize your motion zones by following these steps:
To set up your motion zones:
Open the Ring app.
Tap on menu (☰).
Tap on Devices.
Tap on your cam.
Tap Motion Settings.
Tap the Edit Motion Zones.
Set your zones and motion range to your preferred area(s).
Tap Done.
Tap Save.
You can test your settings by walking in front of the camera to activate it and trigger an alert. Visit our support center if additional information is needed.

Posted .Hi RobertL.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
We understand how critical it is for your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus to notify you of meaningful motion events where the device is installed. Consistent and dependable motion alerts are an essential feature for the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus to function properly. This is likely the reason you purchased this security device in the first place: to be alerted to movement on your property. We want to work with you to make sure we get your device set up for optimal motion detection in your environment.
It sounds like you have some concerns regarding the motion detection of your device. For optimal motion detection, your device should be installed about 10 feet (3 meters) above the ground. When your device is mounted too low, it reduces your optical motion zone. This can result in approaching visitors not being detected as motion or only capturing a partial image when the sensors are triggered.
Once you've confirmed your device is mounted at the optimal height, you will want to check your motion zones. Follow these steps to set up your motion zones:
Open the Ring app.
Tap on the menu (☰).
Tap on Devices.
Tap on your camera.
Tap Motion Settings.
Tap the Edit Motion Zones.
Set your zones and motion range to your preferred area(s).
Tap Done.
Tap Save.
You should now begin to receive motion alerts for activity in your designated zone. You can test your settings by walking in front of the camera to activate it and trigger an alert. Visit our support center for more information.
