Works! Mainly this is used to keep track of the kids coming home from school. And to monitor any package theft attempts from the front door. Only issue is the amount of alerts for car driving down the street. But when i adjuated it. It became less effective, as it would not report people walking up to the door sometimes. And for the way that my family uses the camera, we tend to drain the battery quite often. Almost have to charge it monthly

Picture quality is nice. I remove the battery to charge every 2 to 3 months which isn't too bad. The only issue I would complain about is the motion detection. It seems over time the sensitivity isn't decreases. When I first purchased this product it was sending alerts and recording clips frequently of motion in front of the camera. Now it's dwindled. Some times it doesn't pick up the delivery person even if they are in front of the camera

      Hi JonathanL.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is to have your Ring Video Doorbell 4 capture all the correct motion events. The Ring Video Doorbell 4 was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to person detection. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts," please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap "Motion Settings."
      Tap "Smart Alerts."
      Tap "Enable Feature."
      Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell 4, please reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

Love it! But needs to do a better job on picking up movement. Either it picks up everything or misses stuff. I’ve had a few packages stolen and haven’t even noticed it. Or seen the packages get delivered.

The system works smoothly, I just wish the battery lasted longer, and the setting in regards se spring when someone was passing by would be less often. Even if adjusting the already setting available the notifications are to much. Causes the battery to drained faster.

H ElFlow. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is to have your Ring Video Doorbell 4 capture all the correct motion events. The Ring Video Doorbell 4 was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We can definitely assist you with this today, and we are confident we can find the correct settings for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the device is not performing to your expectations in regards to motion detection and battery life. All battery-powered Ring devices, including the Ring Video Doorbell 4, use passive infrared (PIR) sensors to detect motion. Adjustable motion zones work by identifying visitors based on a change in temperature, and sending a signal to your smart device when it detects one. You can control the sensors' range and sensitivity using the controls in the Ring app. It is also optimized for low-power operations to save on battery power.

The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more your battery is used. Using Live View often can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner. To prevent excessive activity, under Motion Settings for your device in the Ring app you can:

Adjust your Motion Sensitivity slider to a lower sensitivity.
      Redraw your Customizable Motion Zones.
Change Motion Frequency to regularly or periodically.
You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell 4, please reach out to our Community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

I would've given it 5 stars. It records mostly everything that moves in front of it. There are a few times where it doesn't sense movement. One of the times it didn't was when a packaged was delivered and it didn't detect motion of anyone taking my package.

Spent some time determining which system I would go with cause if you buy one piece, your going to have to go with the whole brand down the line. Very happy with Ring system and the app isn’t clunky at all. As long as your home Wi-Fi is good enough you won’t have any problems. Also take your time setting up the devices settings or else’s the defaults might be triggering to frequently.

Worked great for the first 2 weeks, now it's not picking up motion sometimes. I have sensitivity at max too. I was going to buy more ring cameras, but I'll wait now and look at another brand, i want something that will pick up motion everytime, not when it wants to.

Love our Ring! Only downside is that it picks up motion on bright sunny days from cars passing by despite setting up perimeters which drains the battery faster. Another downside is that the Ring and Chime has made our dog less attentive to what’s going on outside because she now alerts off them.

The first one picked up nothing but vehicles After speaking to Ring customer several times we returned it. We did reorder one. It worked great for a few days, than I got a “Off Line” message and once it went back online it picks up vehicles more than people. Some messages say “Person Detected”, but it is a car. I have spoke to customer support and they had me make adjustments. They were suppose to call back the next day at 1:30 but didn’t call until 3:45. So I did not get the call. There have been days that I have gotten “100” notifications a day and it is cars. Highly disappointed to say the least.
