We got this for our son’s gaming pc. He loves that it’s full sized so he can work on school work when needed. The color changing options are really nice for the ambiance.

It’s a great keyboard. It’s quiet. Barely pressing it activates the key. It has many functions which I haven’t fully explored. I would have preferred to have the brown switches instead of the red one. The website didn’t specify the two at the time.

The Roccat Vulcan II MAX keyboard is a great looking and solidly built gaming keyboard from turtle beach. The keyboard is equipped with Titan II optical red switches with clear bottoms that allow all their RGB glory to shine through. The Titan II switches are the Linear style and very quiet the keys have 1.4mm actuation, 3.6mm of total travel with 45gm force required for actuation. The keys are rated at 100 million keystrokes. All those specs mean the keys are very fast. They have a good feel making them great for gaming. They do not have the clicky feel of a mechanical keyboard designed for typing but I felt they had a good feel, you can add click sounds with software if you desire. This keyboard is beautiful; it has dual LEDS, this allows the keys to display a second color when a function is active while still retaining it;s primary LED color. The RGB runs at double the rate of a normal RGB keyboard making it flicker free. Each key has RGB illumination with 16.8m colors. There are 24 multi-function smart keys with a dedicated LED to indicate when secondary functions are active. Just when you think the keyboard could not look any better you attach the included clear silicone wrist rest it transmits your led theme from ports in the front of the keyboard in dazzling RGB glory! I appreciated that Rocat included a Double kickstand for two different elevation angles. The keyboard is powered by dual USB A, this could be a little inconvenient if you need your USB A ports for other peripherals. You could always use a powered USB hub. With the Swarm software to control and program the keyboard you can program a second function layer with Easy-Shift [+]™ for each key. The Dedicated Media Controls for volume, forward, reverse and pause along with a volume control are in the top right corner. The Swarm software allows you to set lighting themes however you may elect to use Rocats new AIMO lighting theme. According to Rocat AIMO is an intelligent lighting system featuring dynamic, living light, which interacts with you and your PC. Whether you are typing or changing PC settings, AIMO reacts intuitively. There is no user-programming needed, no settings to be made, nor need to download third-party plug-ins. I choose to use it and it seems to work as advertised producing beautiful patterns that change according to what you are doing or not doing. Swarm can also set keys sounds if you desire, clicky typing sounds, lightsaber like sounds or no sound which is the default. There are Gaming presets for most popular games and you can create custom presets if you want. You also upgrade the firmware with Swarm. The keyboard runs on a 32-bit ARM Cortex M3 processor with 4 mb for storage of themes, mapped functions. . The keycaps are changeable and compatible with third party pieces. Over all this Keyboard is the King of RGB with great Key switches for gaming. It looks awesome with my gaming rig and it will with yours also.

I’ve been thinking about a getting a new keyboard as the one I’m using is getting pretty worn. I’ve always stuck with Logitechs but decided to try out Roccat’s new Vulcan II Max. Unboxing and setting up: The keyboard comes in a nice, brightly colored Roccat box, inside there’s the keyboard, wrist rest, and guide. The keyboard itself is about the same size as the G513 it’s replacing, weight wise its definitely lighter, “not by much”. The wrist rest is definitely different, it’s feels like a silicone/plastic material that’s pretty flexible but fairly stiff. It’s opaque white and has some vertical grooves on the bottom to give it some springiness “and maybe some cooling”. The wrist rest hooks into the keyboard with a bunch of tabs running along the top edge and they sort of “snap” into place. Hooking this up to the computer is the same as any USB keyboard and it does use two USB connections. I installed Roccats “Swarm” software and once running it immediately found the keyboard and reported that there was an update for the keyboard so I let that run. After that finished I went into the settings and played around with the different lighting settings and was glad to see that each key is full RGB “even the wrist rest can be backlit and adjusted, “explains the opaque white color”. Using: The Swarm software has a lot of settings. There are quite a few keys that have dual function and are dual lit, like the Print, Scroll and Break key also show CPU, GPU and Memory status “which I really like” and there are so many things you can custom set it’s amazing “I’ve never really messed with macros” as there weren’t a lot of functional things I saw with the other keyboards I’ve owned, “this one I’m going to be looking at closely”. The RGB lighting is something completely different from the G513, the key caps are basically just a tile on top of the key, it’s not a normal “cap” like I’m used to, and the base of the keys is clear. Even the space bar is empty underneath “besides the center key and two end supports”, It looks pretty cool and should be easy to clean around. The lighting itself stands out so much more with this design and I like it. They wrist rest is full RGB and has 16 zones you can adjust to your liking or pick one of the schemes that come with it. I’ve set it to AIMO lighting, this adjust to what you are doing and it's pretty slick “although it may not be for everyone’s tastes” my wife also thinks it’s really neat. Now typing on this “for us at least” is great, the keys have a perfect amount of travel and do have an audible “click to them” there’s really no tactile feel till the key bottoms out and that’s fine by us. It can get pretty noisy though so if you are looking for a silent keyboard this isn’t it. I started typing way back on a Remington manual typewriter “yep I’m getting old” and my father was a high school typing teacher so I started typing before I could even write, and my first computer keyboards were old IBM systems using punch cards. I’m still partial to the IBM PS2 clickety keyboard and those took some finger strength to type on all day. This Roccat’s key sound when typing reminds me of those PS2 keyboards sound without all the effort. Their new “Optical Mechanical” switches seem to be very accurate and I can definitely type faster on this keyboard than on the G513. Gaming with the keyboard is great, the keys are very responsive, and they have “for us” just the right amount of feedback. I also like having a physical knob for adjusting the sound volume which works like it should and now no more hunting for a key if I must adjust the volume quickly. According to Roccat this keyboard supports second party keycaps which would be a huge plus as I would probably still be typing on the G513 but the keys started peeling and Logitech let me know they don’t have replacement keys and I couldn’t find any aftermarket caps for the “Red” switches, big negative there and a reason why I went with a different brand. Conclusion: If you want a great, very well-built gaming keyboard that works extremely well for everyday use outside of gaming this is going to be one to take a hard look at. We really like the backlighting and how much programming you can do. There are plenty of on-board user profiles “4” so everyone in the family can set up the keyboard how they want it. My only issue is that there isn’t a USB passthrough “which should come standard” on any keyboard that’s using up two USB ports as it would be nice to hook up the mouse there instead of trying to find an open space on a computer that may be out of the way. Other than that this is a superb keyboard to type on and we’re sure you will enjoy it as much as we are.

Overall This shouldn't need to be said at all but Roccat dropped the ball on this one. You’ll need the Roccat Swarm software to make any customization's to your keyboard. I’m not sure why none of the packaging or manual make any mention of it. There’s just a very small and vague section in the manual that says to visit their download page for updates/drivers. That isn’t very clear either as it asks for your product and device model then gives you a download link. But the downloaded file would be called “xxxxx.swarm.zip”. My last Roccat device prominently displayed logos and messages that read “download Swarm”. With that out there I’ll add that, at least to me, this keyboard seems to have one of the best RGB effects available. Colors are vibrant, spread well, and blends well with the next key. Features A neat thing about this keyboard is its 2 levels of pop-out feet. Follow that same space to the other end and you’ll notice the center is gripped with rubber feet, both top and bottom. It gives the keyboard more stability when using it and prevents any kind of undesired movement. The top metal plate is a nice touch and gives the keyboard a sturdier frame. The best thing, you can now swap in your own keycaps as this keyboard now sports cherry stems. Keys on this board are of a smaller size than standard keys, I’ll just refer to them as low profile. Pairing with the Swarm software brings up this keyboard almost automatically, at least for me, automatic and promoted updates. Swarm allows you to customize the look of your keyboard as well as map any of your keys and customize any kind of flashing pattern. Or just set presets already built-in. Cons I have 2 issues with this keyboard. The first, the braided USB this uses to connect with your PC is one of those 2 to 1 splitter cables. So you use 2 USB ports on your PC an 1 on the keyboard, but these don’t act as a pass-thru and you lose 1 port. The second, this comes with ABS keycaps by default, meaning your keys will smudge and begin to fade relatively quickly. Conclusion This is an overall beautiful keyboard. Whether you’re just looking to type or game on. It’s quick, looks nice, and gives you some customization options to get your work done. It will serve you well. This is a 4-star product.

What you get out of the box is the keyboard, a palm rest, and inserts. The Roccat Vulcan II Max is a full sized keyboard that doesn't look like it has the highest quality build, but in terms of functionality, it works quite nicely. The keys sit high above the keyboard itself, and the keys have a nice tactile feeling to them. Typing is smooth and the keys were responsive while typing out this review, as well as when I tested it out on one of my favorite shooters. For the FPS (First Person Shooter, it responded quite well. There was no noticeable lag whatsoever. The RGB is nice to look it, and isn't distracting while playing. I just wish there was a way to choose the flow of the colors or the pattern. The palm rest that comes with the keyboard looked strange upon first view until I inserted it into the front of the keyboard. The palm rest itself gets the RGB treatment. The way the palm rest attaches to the keyboard is a bit wonky. I wish there was a better clicking way of making sure that it's secure, but it's a minor complaint. There's a multimedia center in the top right of the keyboard, it's a nice small touch, but nothing amazing. As mentioned earlier, the build itself is on the average side. The plastic feels less compared to some of its competitors. Considering that it takes up 2 USB-A slots, you would think they would at least put 1 USB-A pass through slot on the keyboard somewhere. Or, I'm waiting for keyboards to go USB-C single slot. All in all, it'll work great on some long gaming sessions.

I've been using the new Roccat Vulcan II Max RGB gaming keyboard for roughly 10 days now, and it's just about perfect. The construction, and fit and finish are top notch. The top of the keyboard has an aluminum plate that's sandblasted. It's colored a very dark grey/black and is a matte type finish that does not allow the lighting that comes from the clear key switches to produce a glaring cast off to distract you. This is not my first RGB gaming keyboard, but it it the first on with the clear switched that allow the colored lighting to show other that just the lettering on each individual key cap. It was abit weird at first having this "extra lighting" around the keys, but I really enjoy it now. They keyboard also has a rubber or silicone strip on the front underside as well as a narrow one in the middle of the back to help prevent the keyboard from sliding around on your desk. The key board can be flat on your desk, or you can flip down the feet on the back of the keyboard. There are actually a total of 4 little feet. Two on each side on the rear of the keyboard. The first foot raises the rear of the keyboard just a fraction. If you raise the other foot, it will raise the rear of the keyboard about 1/4 of an inch. There is also a volume knob as well as FF, back and play/pause buttons for audio. The key caps are slightly concaved which I love. For me personally, it gives me more of a feeling of the key whether I'm gaming or just typing. I dislike a flat top key caps as there isn't any feeling to them. Speaking of key caps, the Roccat key caps can be replaced with 3rd party key caps which could be handy in the future if one of the Roccat key caps break. The software is very easy to use and select pre made colors for your key caps, or custom make your own colors. And speaking of colors, the VulacnII Max comes with a detachable wrist pad. It's a clear hard silicon type rest. It's not soft at all by any means. JUst like you can custom color your key caps, you can have the wrist pad light up as well. You can see it lit up in one of my pictures. I have the majority of my keys in a custom colored light blue, so the wrist pad comes out light blue as well. In another of my pictures without the wrist pad, you can see a whitish colored sections on the leading front edge of the keyboard. This is where you slide in the wrist pads and it picks up the lighting from there. The cable for the Roccat Vulacn II Max is 6 feet long. It's also thicker than your average keyboard cable and roughly 1 foot from the end the cable divides into a "Y" with two USB connections. The USB housings have a little keyboard printed on them which will come in handy when you need to unplug any USB cabling from the back of your PC. Overall, I really, really like this keyboard, especially for gaming. For typing, it's very easy to type with, but I do notice that the keys are a louder when typing than those on my Logitech gaming keyboard. I think I don't really notice the louder key sounds when I'm gaming as I'm concentrating on playing the game itself. I can highly recommend the new Roccat Vulcan II Max RGB keyboard even though it's a bit pricey.

I found the same keyboard but with the Roccat logo instead of Turtle Beach for only $39.99 at an off-price department store chain. It use the software "Swarm II" to control the keyboard from the macros to the lights and is easy to use. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive with very bright colors. I recommend it for how good it is although I find the price a bit high.

I've really come to love, and very much enjoy using, the Roccat gaming accessories I own. I have several now, both gaming keyboards and gaming mice. And they are all, awesome! Turtle Beach's Roccat devices continue to impress me. As for quality, they are of the same caliber as another "well-known"brand I also own, and use, for gaming. I like having choices, and switching out the gaming devices I have, not just because each one has their own 'pros' and 'cons', but simply because it's fun. This Vulcan II Max is really well-done, overall. It's a full-sized keyboard; with the keys spaced apart comfortably for typing text, as well as, for reaching the arrow and WASD keys with ease during gameplay. I'm particularly partial to there being a volume control knob right there at the upper right hand side, above the number pad. So convenient. Even the texturized underside of the keyboard has that little extra "attention to detail." The Titan II dual-LED linear optical gaming switches are pretty darn cool. Not just for their looks, but I can most definitely "feel" the difference with each keystroke. Key presses are crisp and precise, with that 'clickety-clack' sound being ever so satisfying to hear. Of course, by using the Roccat Swarm PC software, you are able to customize the actual sounds the keys will make. My favorite is typewriter. The detachable full-sized 'rubberized' wrist rest is nice and thick. It fits nicely into the notches along the bottom edge of the keyboard itself. The AIMO RGB colors and light effects display nicely. The only real concern I have is how the silicone material it's made from, will hold up over time. Sometimes this type of thing can get "gunky" after a while, even with proper regular cleaning. It is comfortable enough, though. With the keyboard positioned at an optimal angle via the two 'feet' on the underside, the wrist rest may help alleviate wrist fatigue. While the thick, heavy-duty, braided USB cable is the sturdiest I've ever come across on any keyboard I've seen, it is a 'dual cord' so you will need two available USB 2.0 ports to plug it in. And though the quality is high-level tier, at the same time this duo-cable is somewhat cumbersome and does gets in my way when I game on my laptop, as opposed to my desktop computer. Cord management is always something to bear in mind, so worth mentioning, but I'd not consider this to be a "downside," at all. Now, you will be needing to install the aforementioned Roccat Swarm softare on your PC. There are a multitude of customizations available to make the absolute most out of the features this gaming keyboard has to offer. Create game profiles, assign keys and functions, manage macros, set sound feedback for keystrokes, choose color and lighting effects, etc. There is one "downside" to do with that all-important Swarm software, however ... the font text on each of the control and customization 'dashboards' is really really small. And unless I'm missing it, there's no way to adjust that. So Roccat, there's much room for improvement to be had in that department. While I'm quite impressed with this Turtle Beach Roccat Vulcan II Max, can I recommend it? Yes. At least for the serious gamer who will make the most of its many features, as this gaming keyboard is rather pricey, and there are other less expensive options of comparable quality. Final thoughts - This Roccat Vulcan Max II offers more than just a flashy light display. It IS an all-around solid gaming keyboard.

I was unsure at first about the lighting being more exposed due to the very short key caps. But its grown on me and I like it a lot. The double usb cable is weird, but workable for cable management. I am transitioning from Corsair to anything else at the moment because my Corsair stuff likes to randomly reset in the middle of playing games. The Turtle Beach build quality is pretty good, lighter than expected. The Swarm II software took a bit of getting used to but now I really like it. I've been very happy overall. BTW the light up wrist rest is awesome, not thick enough for me so sadly I can't use it in my scenario.

The best sounding non custom/modded mechanical keyboard I’ve heard. Also having the 32bit cpu onboard to control the lighting with two leds per switch made it the best looking keyboard in terms of the RGB. Never have been a fan of linear switches, but this keyboard makes it 200% worth it. Definitely recommend this keyboard to anyone. Software isn’t the best but it does get the job done with a lot of customization, just can be slow and unresponsive at times.
