Connects Macbook Air M2 to two External Displays
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A few weeks ago I was ready to buy a new MacBook, but was holding off because I needed the ability to connect it to two external displays via HDMI to help me when I work from home. Since the new MacBooks all have the M1 or M2 chips made by Apple silicon, they can't do this natively without upgrading to the nearly twice as expensive M1Pro/M2Pro Macbook Pros. I finally decided to just go for the new Macbook Air M2 in Midnight and purchased this the same night I picked up the computer. This was super easy to install and use, and it's worked great for me for regular business needs and personal use. Between the built-in display, my two external monitors connected to this, and SideCar/Connectivity on my iPad, this gives me the ability to have up to four displays going at once. If you're hesitant to buy an M1/M2 Macbook because you have two monitors to connect via HDMI, this is a solution to that problem. My only complaint is that $100+ for something like this seems a little high (I would think more like $60-$80), but beggars can't be choosers.

Nice Adapter!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Satechi USB-C Multimedia Adapter for M1 is a nice-looking and well-made device in appearance and feel. I tried using it with one of my 17” 4k laptops that has an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and four USB-C Thunderbolt ports with two 4k monitors. When I first plugged it in both of the screens were on and working. Then I read the instructions and it said to download and install the driver and then plug it in. So I did that and afterwards my left monitor would not display anything full screen. It was like the laptop or the Satechi device saw it as a smaller monitor than it was and it had black bars on each side of the screen. So I uninstalled the driver in the Windows apps and features section and then went to look in my C: drive for any residual files and could not find a folder relating to the Satechi device. I also noticed that my second monitor would only work at 30hz while the first one ran at 60hz and the laptop was running at 60hz as well. Windows would only allow me to extend to the second monitor and the first one duplicated the laptop and I still have not been able to get the first screen to display full screen with the Satechi but when I unplugged the second monitor and used the adapter that came with the laptop that has one HDMI port the screen displayed fully again. I will have to try again to see how I can get the generic Windows driver back that Windows installed on it’s own. At least that way it displayed both monitors in full screen. If you are buying it for a Windows set up you may want to stick with the driver that Windows installs automatically until Satechi updates their driver for Windows. It does say it is made for the Apple M1 to be fair but it is supposed to be able to work with Windows as well and they have a driver download for it. I think it is a good device that just needs a driver update for Windows 10 to work out a couple of issues.

Exactly what I needed to run 2 monitors on M1 Mac
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you struggling with an M! processor MacBook and not being able to run 2 external monitors? If so, then get this, set-up is simple and it works very well. Initially I was regretting my decision of going with a Mac instead of a PC at my new job - once I discovered the absurdity of my new machine not being able to accommodate two external monitors. I tried a MOKiN USB-C hub as well as a B3 Big Three USB-C hub, and neither of them worked. I also tried the J5Create Ultra Hub USB-C hub from BestBuy (sku 6402119), which based on the reviews should have worked...well, it didn't. I noticed this hub from SATECHI that actually had "M1" in the name of the device, so I figured this would be my best and last attempt. I opened the box, and I noticed the device was well built; plus it actually had useful and simple instructions. After wasting half a day trying to figure out why I couldn't run both of my monitors, and failing to remedy the situation with three other devices, I was up and running within 5 minutes with the SATECHI USB-C Multimedia M! adapter. Great Product!

Dual Monitor on an M1! But the port spacing...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First impressions are positive. The unit has some heft. It's made of metal, it will not get bent or cracked. It runs very warm after some use, but not overly hot. The metal case is probably needed as a heat sink to disipate the heat. The 4.5" cord and its connector appear to be high quality. After downloading and installing the software, the Multimedia Adapter works as advertised on a MacBook Pro M1. I had no problems connecting two 4K monitors, the primary HDMI port will run at 60Hz, but the second HDMI port is limited to 30 Hz. I could run the monitors mirrored or extend the desktop across two monitors, which the Mac M1 does not support itself. It's pretty exceptional with the dual monitor support. That rare feat makes this worth recomending. But it could use some work in other areas. I was able to power my laptop thorough the USB-C port that supports power. The USB-C port seems to limit power, my laptop charges slower going through the dock. But over the course of a day, it will get it done. I used some USB 2 and 3 drives as well as USB-C thumb drives with the adapter. Small files seemed OK, but large video files took much longer to transfer than normal. The ports are all on one side and located too close together. The HDMI cables and USB drives conflicted with each other. A USB drive drive could not be fully inserted without inserting it crooked. The USB ports next to the monitor are unusable when monitors are plugged in. As monitors are usually plugged in for the duration of a session, I'd like to see the two HDMI ports moved to the back of the case, leaving more room for the USB ports to spread apart on the front with enough room to accommodate even the widest USB drives and cables. If this had a GB Ethernet adapter on the back as well, this would make a great dock. Hopefully in a future version.

Received open-box/used item
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Paid full price and received an open-box/used item. By looking at the packaging, you can tell there was a sticker and was removed. I haven't test this product on my M1 machine so I will leave quality, value and ease of use as average.

Easy Dual-HDMI option for M1 Macs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really happy when I got my M1 MacBook Air earlier in 2021, and the lack of dual-monitor support in the M1 chipset didn't real seem to be an issue at the start, but every now and again I found myself wrestling with multiple windows and virtual desktops that got a bit complex. I'd read about a number of displaylink docks than can 'sorta' make M1 Macs support multiple monitors, but the DisplayLink driver sets aren't 100% there yet and you lose some of the native Apple display features. Enter the Satechi adapter for M1. Lets get this out the way first - it works. Running 2x HDMI monitors with nothing more than a simple software install (a product call SiliconMotion) and pretty much no other configuration. I have tried DisplayLink variants in the past and eventually gave up, so the simplicity of the Satechi was a welcome surprise. Couple of key things I noticed in testing. - Yes, you can mirror the desktops as well as run them in extended desktop mode - Yes, it does work in Clamshell mode. (laptop closed, both monitors still work) - Yes, native features like 'nightshift' work (although I could only get it to work on one of the monitors, but it never worked on any of the display link ones. Minor issue for most people I think - As you are running HDMI and not USB-C/DP-ALT, then you can supply external power via the PD port (this is required to run in clamshell mode obviously) It has 2x USB3.0 ports and a single USB-C data port (its marked as Superspeed so USB3.1/10GBs but there are some documented quirks with the M1 USB4 ports that mean you might be limited to 5GBs on some devices and external drives while Apple figure this one out - I should stress its not an issue with this adapter). Only minor critique is it would be nice to have an Ethernet port, to hit 100% connectivity requirements for a complete desktop docking station, but then again you can't have everything!! All in all this is a great portable adapter and will be using it as my go-to adapter for on the road when I'm working with multiple devices and monitors. If you prefer HDMI to display link, then this is a must-buy for M1 customers needing multiple monitor support. I received this item as part of a technical review group, but any opinions expressed here are my own based on my personal use of the product.

Simple dual screen adapter
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Satechi USB C Multimedia M1 Adapter is a simple device to use. The instructions said I was required to install their own driver and app. I tried it without it on Windows 10 and it worked fine, with me. Regardless I installed the software as instructed and ran my tests. I streamed Youtube 4K content on 2 screens without any issues. Running at 60Hz refresh rate. No issues. No lag. Picture was very nice. Dual screen use was simple to use and it was pretty much plug and play. USB C and USB A 3.0 worked. But transfer speeds were not that great. Just to make sure I was not crazy. I unplugged the adapter and straight plugged into my laptop and my transfer speeds went up. Pass through USB C charging was good. I plugged in my phone and it was showing as rapid charge. I also tried it on my Motorola Edge Plus and it passed the screen through too. Not bad. If you are looking for a simple dual screen adapter that has USB C plugs and USB A 3.0 this will work just fine. Not sure what happened to the transfer speed issue, but for the record I tried transferring 60 GB worth of data so it was a lot. The only 2 other dings I could give this product is that it ran hot and the USB C connector can disconnect easily which is a known problem with USBc connectors of these type. This is prevalent in other products that I have used so nothing new with that. For simple 2 screen 4K use and USB A 3.0 and USB C use I would recommend this product.

Works Great, Couple of Caveats
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been looking for a multi-port adapter for my Surface Laptop so that I can utilize my dual monitor setup when I’m at home. The Satechi M1 USB-C works perfectly with it. The M1 has two HDMI ports (1@60Hz, 1@30Hz), two USB-A 3.0 ports, a USB-C data port and a USB-C charger port. All these ports are enough for me to drive two 4K monitors, a mouse and keyboard, and a portable USB-C drive, no problem. To top it off, it is able to charge my Surface Laptop with the USB-C charger port being provided power from a USB-C power brick. Basically, the M1 turned my laptop into a full fledged desktop computer. When I need to be on the move, all I need to do is remove the single USB-C cable into my laptop and leave the M1 untouched. A couple of caveats though. 1) You need to install drivers/software for the M1. The software is called SiliconMotion and can be found easily on the internet. A url is also specified in the manual if you can’t find it on your own. As of this review, I downloaded the SM76x driver for Windows 10. Easy peasy. You need to do this to drive both HDMI outputs. 2) As I mentioned above, only one HDMI port can drive your display to 60Hz and the other 30Hz. For me it wasn’t a huge deal, but you can clearly see the 30Hz in action, and it’s definitely not as smooth as the 60Hz. My current setup has my 30Hz monitor in a portrait position to the side as I usually keep windows on there pretty static, while my main focus is on my other monitor. 3) It does get pretty hot to the touch. Overall, I’m very happy to have the Satechi complement my Surface Laptop.

NOW run two 4K monitors with M1 Macs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my M1-powered MacBook Air. It does all that I need and more. Powerful, rock-steady, reliable and with the MacOS, full featured. I opted to max it out with 16GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD. I have not had this level of Mac satisfaction since my 2007-era MacPro, which cost a boatload. The MacBook Air M1 laptop is much faster and less expensive. Of course, after that much time, I would expect that it be a speedy rocket of a computer. While it lacks the capability to add internal drives or anything internal, the opportunity to run added drives and other peripherals is available through an external dock like the Thunderbolt dock I use with ports galore. One thing it cannot do natively is drive two 4K monitors. This is due to an Apple decision that may or may not change in time. I use an external 27-inch 4K HP monitor (from Best Buy), but I would like to be able to drive a second 4K monitor to extend the desktop workspace and not merely mirror them. With the introduction of this Satechi USB-C Multimedia Adapter for M1 Macs, the problem has been solved with a plug & play adapter, $150 from Best Buy. This adapter also works with Windows 10 computers. Ports include: • 2x USB-A 3.0 • 4K@30Hz HDMI Video Port • 4K@60Hz HDMI Video Port • USB-C Data • USB-C PD (Power Delivery) port (up to 100W) **WHAT’S IN THE BOX** • Satechi USB-C Multimedia Adapter with connected USB C cable • Documentation **THE SETUP** It’s a simple device, really. Download and install the free SiliconeMotion app, which recognizes the new adapter. And now it’s time to . . . **PUT IT TO THE TEST** With the adapter attached using its USB-C cable, I could see that it was receiving power over the Mac’s bus. Next, I ran an HDMI cable from each HDMI port on the adapter to each monitor’s HDMI input. Note that there are NO HDMI or other external cables included. Next, I launched the free MacOS Instant View software the adapter sticker instructed should be downloaded and installed. The same software is also available in a version for Windows 10. The software with the adapter provides the driver required for display on dual 4K monitors. And there they were, two monitors running from the MacBook Air that is not supposed to do this! There may be a driver update required whenever Apple updates the OS. Settings allow for dual mirroring or extending the desktop across both monitors and must also be adjusted in the Mac's Display Preference panel. Now, there is a wider palette for more work or play. It’s just that simple. Is it perfect? In that the adapter makes it possible to run dual 4K monitors seamlessly, yes. Note that one monitor runs at 60Hz and the other at 30Hz. The other ports are also useful. If I wish to do so, I could run the MacBook’s power cable through the Satechi adapter connected to one of the PD ports on the MacBook so as to power the laptop without giving up a port. The unused USB 3.0 ports could be used to power external portable drives or simply as ports for, say, a peripheral BT dongle. The remaining USB-C port could be used, for example, to connect a multiport USB-A device dock. It’s always handy to have those added ports. **CONCLUSION** It works! I’m happy. I’m confident you will be, too. **WARRANTY** One year manufacturer’s warranty to the original purchaser

IT WORKS! M1 SOLUTION
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.FINALLY! I am one of those people who never writes reviews but after the long search for my MacBook Pro 2020 (M1 chip) I have to say THIS WORKED. This was probably my 15th solution. Tried Display Link... then realized my dozen hdmi/display port adapters were not compatible.... Just for everyone reading..... here is a heads up... if you are looking at BestBuy just disregard the J5 and Insignia Brands when it comes to dual monitors and the M1 chip. The insignia HDMI to USB-C works brilliantly for one monitor as does the plethora of J5 products but if you have TWO external monitors and are looking to have them display your M1Chip (MacBook Pro/Air 2020 and some years before) then this is YOUR PRODUCT! But don't think about getting fancy. I tried to use this adapter with my USB-C to HDMI and it was a NO GO. Just get this adapter and two 'old fashion' HDMI to HDMI cords and you are good to go. BUT READ INSTRUCTIONS. This product comes with stickers all over it telling you to install a specific driver on their site if you are trying to use two HDMI (or just two monitors in general... as I learned w/ my MacBook Pro 2020) but the driver is super simple and causes no lag. I was looking to use Display Link but this one came with it's own hyper-functional and easy to use driver so I just got the product, plugged in each HDMI cord to their respective monitors and then downloaded the driver that is on the SATECHI website & BOOM as SIMPLE AS IT SHOULD BE! Make sure you get the driver SPECIFICALLY for this product and I promise you it will work. Like other users, I You-Tubed, Googled, Mac Chat Board-ed & Reddit'd my life away searching for the M1chip/Dual Monitor solution and this one worked. Oh, and if you are curious- you can connect to TWO external monitors and still use the MacBook Pro Display as well. I personally prefer to shut the laptop when at home and just use the two external monitors. If you are having any difficulty after installing this product go into System Preferences.... DISPLAY.... and make sure if you want to close the MacBook that you have one monitor set as the MAIN display and the other set as the extended display.... this way you have full functionality without having to open your MacBook Pro (once docked).... and since I am apparently feeling chatty... it you have an apple watch.... make sure to set it up to be able to unlock your Mac/ autofill passwords. Google it- it will save your life. ;) Well this is my first in depth review of a product and I hope it saves you guys the time I wasted searching for it! Cheers

A good solution for adding dual monitors to M1 Mac
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great way to add dual monitor support to your M1 Macs. It works with the Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iMac. I wish I didn't also need to run additional software to have dual monitor support, but I'll take it.
