The reason why I only gave it a four stars instead of a five stars review because when I firstly got it and plugged it in, it basically only has 3.63 TB of space...not exactly 4TB. It already had some stuff inside the drive that wasted some storage space. If you see the attached photo, then you can see there were stuff in the drive that already wasted some storage space.

these things are only good because they have been dropping in price. i got mine for under $100 but i wanna say $80. the last one i got from seagate 1TB ($90 back in 2013) stopped working after dropping it from the top of my computer case to the carpetted floor on which the computer was set. these are very fragile and the only thing it is good for is its portability and relatively small size. wish i didnt have to buy another one but the price was too good. otherwise i would just buy my own usb3 to 2.5" sata case (10 dollars) and buy my own 2.55 hdd(market price), which is essentially all it is. its just pre formatted and partitioned for plug and play (for the priviledged ;p) with some software to waste your space. speed is stuck at ~40 megabytes per second which is more or less industry average for these puppies. such a wasted technology: usb3 and sata 3.0

4TB in a compact, lightweight, sturdy package. Excellent for backups or extra storage. Great price. It's a downrev device in that it achieves USB 3.0 on the drive side by using micro USB plus that funky extra connector. But since the needed cable is included, who cares? Sure, USB C would be better, and give me more cable flexibility, but would also cost more. This gets the job done, and that's all I need.

The Seagate - Backup Plus 4TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive is excellent. This unit is small and compact and works well with my new Dell Computer, Windows 10 64 BIT OS. I like the fact you just plug the USB 3.0 into your computer and you are ready to backup everything. If you need a good backup, I would highly recommend a Seagate Portable Hard Drive.

I’ve been using these hard drives for several years and found them to be very reliable. I like the fact that they are small in size, don’t require an external charging cable and I can stack them on top of each other to keep my limited amount of space organized.

Absolutely a good purchase. It's reasonably priced, extremely easy to install, the software works the way it should and the drive works the way it should. I had 2 Western Digital drives before this that I just couldn't get to work properly. I gave up on the WDs and went with the Seagate. I wish I'd done it initially. I'd have saved lots of time and heartache. (I need to give Best Buy a golden star because they took both WD drives back with no hesitation - of course I had my paperwork with me. The ONLY way I could be happier is if the USB cable were a foot or two longer. That's it, otherwise I couldn't be happier.

This hard drive is very compact, operates very fast and is self powered.....it is better than I expected, at a great price!

Initially, I purchased this hard drive for my Mac and to backup my photography. I've never owned an external hard drive before and for the short period of time that I've owned this one, there haven't been any issues. It runs rather smoothy and is overall easy to setup.

Solid external device. The software is very over bearing, including adding itself to the computer’s start up menu. Not a fan of that! Less intrusive software and easier installation steps would make this a much better device . I wound up not Completing the installation and I don’t use the software at all

So far this product has been si.ple to install on a I Mac. Lots and lots of storage, hopefully I won't have to buy another anytime soon. Was able to hide it behind the column of the desktop mac. Out of sight for a minimal desktop. Love the finish.

I was running out of space to store my games on my PS4, and this let me install all of them. They work just as good as if they were stored on the internal hard drive.

An excellent backup drive. Compact size and easy-to-use software make this my choice for backing up my important files. You can do periodic backups on your schedule or set it to back up continuously. A good choice.

Just what I needed to back up all my pictures and videos. Easy to set up and use, attached perfectly to my laptop. Great amount of storage, fast to back up items & works just as advertised.

What a surprise when I received this external hard drive. It's so compact compared to the one I have. No trouble setting it up and so easy to use. Would definitely recommend.

Seagate has always been my go to brand when it comes to storage media, portable or otherwise. This is the second 4TB Seagate drive I've bought in the past year and as with my experience, it doesn't disappoint. Fast transfer rates, is immediately recognized by any PC I plug it in to, and super reliable, unlike the more ubiquitous WD drives out there.

This is a small external drive that is USB connected with no power adapter. Works great!
