This Z9D has a black level adjust so you can control how deep blacks you want. 2. Peak Brightness. My living room has a glass sliding door and sunlight is coming through but this Z9D is super bright it will light up your whole living room. 3 Viewing angle is great. 4. No burn-in/Image retention. What an awesome tv! To bad it broke after 25 days of use. Neither Best Buy or Sony has anymore 65Z9Ds. Sony offered me a different model instead.

Best 4K HDR TV Period

Truly beats oled in every way except viewing angles. Exchanged a LG 65EF9500 for this tv and all I can say is wow!!! 4K images are crisper and clearer on this tv. 4K HDR is outstanding with the extra peak brightness this tv has. Black levels are just as good as OLED without all the near black issues I had with my LG. Motion handling is much improved over the LG also. Upscaled blurays look like real 4K and direct tv looks good also upscaled on this tv. Much improved over the LG. The only thing the OLED did better was viewing angles, but with an IPS panel this can be expected. If it wasn't for this small issue this would be the perfect tv. You will not be disappointed with this tv at all. I feel it is well worth the money for the quality picture this tv displays. Sony definitely hit a home run with this tv. I feel it's the best tv on the market right now without question.

Died after slightly 1.5 years. Picture showed half black halls white. Called Sony and they said it’s out of warranty. They could give me “deep discount” for the replacement. Luckily I bought extended warranty.

BEST LED TV EVER

To be honest i am really impressed with this TV from Picture Quality to Build Quality.
I had a hard time choosing between the Q8FN and Q9FN QLEDs but was not that impressed with the colors which are slightly better than the z9d. QLEDS have a wider gamut so that makes sense. Sony TVs have the best up-scaling and Natural colors which i like more than the QLEDs. The Samsungs i think have average at best up scaling compared to the Sony TVs.
For all you buyers on the fence based on this being a 2016 Model Year TV don't be it was or mine is manufactured in September 2018. Still the BEST Local Dimming ever if you ask me. No blooming and the Best Blacks next to OLED wow. At first i didnt believe it until i saw it myself. I do have the Sony XBR900F which is good but the blooming is unacceptable and really bad. The motion is very good at least as well as the picture quality. The Contrast on the Z9D is the best i have ever seen on a LED LCD TV. I am not sure why other forums or complaints have been regarding motion on the Z9D having issues. I have not seen any motion issues at all. Again, for gamers the response time is typically high but i did not buy this to game anyways.
For $2K bucks you cant go wrong and yes these will sell out very fast. As for the reason i didnt go with the Z9F, i think Sony dropped the ball on that TV regarding Contrast and Build Quality. The Black Levels on that TV are no where close to the Z9D. I feel like Sony is not putting alot of R&D as they did with the Z9D to the Z9F. Might be a push for OLEDs lol if you ask me. Z9D was gunning for the OLEDs but since Sony came out with OLED the Z9F took a turn for the worst.
The Z9D is still King if i had a bigger budget i would have bought the 75 inch Z9D.
Get the Z9D before they are completely gone.

I purchased this TV after reading reviews and visiting the showroom several times. This is an expensive purchase and i expected this TV to meet my expectations. It did so with flying colors. This is probably as good as it gets for current LED technology. I have been playing around with the settings, and my TV has not been professionally calibrated.
Here are my observations:
-This TV can be very bright and is really pops with HDR video.
-It is a fantastic upscaler whether it be from component dvd, cable
1080p, blu-ray, streaming video, or the playstation game machine.
-It produces very deep blacks and bright whites.
- For the most part motion is very smooth and judder free. One
exception is amazon which seems to produce overly compressed
video
-This TV is loaded with apps such as amazon, Netflix, Vudu, Sony Ultra,
Playstation Vue, Hulu, Google Play, Youtube, and others, with plenty of
onboard memory for adding more apps.
-The Netflix and Amazon apps are now 4k and offer HDR content
though on a limited basis
- I'm able to stream 4K with HDR over wifi
-There are 4 HDMI inputs, but only #s 2 and 3 accept 4k with HDR
1 and 3 accept 4k but not HDR and if you use ARC, which uses 3
then there is only one left (2) with the full bandwidth for HDR.
-I use optical out for sound as my receiver is not HDMI. I have a 3.1
speaker setup and I'm getting 3.1 channel sound from the TV.
-The operating system, though somewhat sluggish at times, has been
very stable. I have experienced no crashes.
-There are a lot of settings by picture type such as color, motion, etc.
It takes a while to become familiar with them. Each input retains its
own settings. I think the apps are grouped under the same settings.
-It takes a while to become comfortable with the remote which is not
backlit. I find it to be very directional, requiring several attempts
sometimes to communicate with the TV.
-I have not yet viewed Ultra HD content from a disc, as i don't have a
Ultra HD blu-ray player. I received 8 free Ultra HD HDR movies from
Sony for viewing on their Ultra website. They were outstanding
For the most part, the ultra HD content on Amazon and Netflix is not at
that quality, but still very good.
- Ant-Man in 3D and it was very good, with great brightness.
-Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and would highly
recommend it. It provides the ultimate in video presentation with deep
blacks and very little haloing on program credits. On most letter box
presentations, the black borders are pure black, which make me
think that the content provider is the cause when less than 100% black.
I think the same may also apply to program credits.
-I am continually amazed at the sharpness, contrast, color, depth, and
smooth motion that this set provides. You won't go wrong with this TV
purchase.

I have looked at this TV for a while. When Best buy put it on sale it was a no brainer. The picture is great. Blacks are black, the colors are bright and accurate. Motion is clear. I have other TV'S that are plasma TV's
This one is right up there. Another feature this is a 3-D TV. I have a bunch of 3-D movies and it is had to find a tv that supports this format. The fact that it upscales to near 4-K it a great plus. I have found it easy to setup, It prompts you step by step. You can also changes settings to you liking. I paired it to a Sony 4-K,3-D, DVD player and am able to watch movies in 4-K and near 4-K. All in all I am very happy with this TV.

At the current price it’s easiky the best value out there for a great 65 inch tv. I had a plasma tv before and picture quality is pretty close to plasma. Only downside could be the viewing angles. But that is to be expected from LCD tv. It supports 3D which is a bonus if you have 3D movies around. Sound quality is ok but I would recommend using a sound bar. It’s very heavy for a lcd tv, almost weigh as much as plasma TVs. HDR contents looks awesome because of the bright panel. You will not be disappointed if you decide to purchase this one. Highly recommended.

The Best 4K LED Television

I've been reading reviews and articles about this TV since Sony announced it back in July of last year. I won't go into all the nitty gritty specs of this TV, but this set is hands down, the best 4K LED television on the market today.
Sony wanted to give an OLED picture feel on an LED set, and they absolutely nailed it. No more spotlights coming from the corners on dark scenes or letterbox bars. This of course won't achieve true black like OLED can, but this set gets pretty close. Plus OLED can't achieve the amazing brightness of this television. The Backlight Master Drive combined with the brightness of this TV, gives you a beautiful picture with unbelievable contrast and color.
This TV also still includes 3D if that's your thing and comes with two pairs of glasses. The wire management panel in the back is also a huge win for me. The build of this TV is stunning and the picture is worth every penny.

Hands down the best of the LED panels. It immediately distanced itself from the rest when I saw it on display in store. The black levels are amazingly good. Only the 2016 LG OLED is comparable but not as bright. I used to have a Samsung JS8500 55" and this is noticeably better in every aspect, and the Samsung was pretty good. In particular the black levels and the fast motion handling are better. I often saw artifacts or trails with fast-moving objects. Not with the Z series. The only downside is the price makes it inaccessible for many. If you want the best and can afford it, it's either this or the LG OLEDs if you are ok with a dimmer display.

Have hasn’t this TV for a few weeks now and have used it extensively to watch DISH, 4K streaming, UHD Blu-rays and also PS4 pro gaming. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
- REALLY bright. HDR material is simply stunning on this TV
- Good (not great) black levels
- Excellent uniformity for a defined picture with minimal banding
- NO image retention (which plagues the OLED Tvs)
- Amazing color gamut for realistic and rich colors
CONS:
- Below average motion processing
- Not ideal for fast paced games (input lag isnt the best)
- Costs more than the LG oled C7
Summary:
This is a fantastic tv for watching 4K HDR material. No real complaints watching movies or streaming TV shows , Netflix etc. However its upscaling software is the same as the much cheaper X930e which is the better value. I went for the Z9D for the full array backlight system/ local dimming etc. It’s simply stunning for its class but not perfect.

Looked at several different kinds of 4K 65” TVs
Samsung Q series 4K
LG OLED 4K
Sony 4K
Overall the Sony had the best picture quality and brightness and color really pops!
Yes the LG OLED had the best blacks but the Sony wasn’t far behind but the brightness made up for it!
The 3D aspect of this TV is stunningly Amazing! I have several 3D Blu-rays since I own a 50” Panasonic 3D plasma as well, and I like the fact that this tv has the 3D feature for a sale price of $1999.99 from reg price of $3499.99. This Sony’s 3D feature blows away my 2010 3D Panasonic Plasma! And I thought my Panasonic was Awesome! This Sony Z9D is much more superior!
I’m glad this TV went on sale recently because it is by far the best bang for your buck hands down no comparison!!!
I would highly recommend this TV! You will not be disappointed!

Purchased this television set in late 2018. Originally I was looking to purchase a new 4K LG OLED for the vibrant colors and inky blacks. However, after further research I decided to purchase the Z9D. Even though the model had been out for a couple of years it was still an excellent set and was now priced at a competitive 2K USD (65"). A very bright display (the brightest I have seen) and support for Dolby Vision makes this set perfect for HDR content. The set uses full array local dimming and while it still can not match OLED, black levels are very impressive and some of the best of any LCD TV. This is the last 4K TV to support 3D. The bright display, vibrant colors and 4K screen result in a great 3D image, unfortunately, like many other Sony displays this set is prone to some crosstalk (this can be mitigated by dialing in the right picture settings). My one issue with this set is Sony's use of Android TV, while usable it is a bit clunky and certainly not as smooth as LGs OS. This is a fantastic 4K TV set, the picture quality is amazing.

I was upgrading my 10 year old DLP 3D TV to a Z9D. I loved that tv cause 3D movies look awesome but I wanted 4K. All the major tv makers stupidly removed 3D from all their models after 2016 which made no sense. Why couldn’t they make at least one model with 3D is beyond me. So the Z9D was my only affordable option for 3D and 4k. The Sony z9d does not disappoint, this tv rocks. The best feature is the brightness. Everything just looks incredible. 4k movies and video games on Xbox scorpio and PS4 pro is a major upgrade. Netflix 4k streaming look great too. Watching 3D movies with the brightness this bad boy has is a major grade from my 3D dlp tv. I’m very happy with my purchase and I have no regrets. I highly recommend buying it if you’re thinking about it. Yeah the oled tvs probably look better and with sharper blacks but it doesn’t look $1000 more better than the z9d. So glad I was able to come across it on sale for $1999.

Proof positive you get what you pay for. This TV may be on the more expensive side, but it has the most crystal clear picture I have ever seen. I was ready to upgrade to 4K and figured I was SOL getting another 3D tv since they stopped making them in 2016. Me and my wife love 3D and have a large collection of movies so I wasnt ready to let go. To my surprise Sony was still still making this set although it has recently been replaced with a non 3D model. I had to get one before they are gone forever. Knowing that the TV supports Dolby Vision via a firmware upgrade also made me make the jump.
The picture quality in 4K is amazing with near OLED blacks and super bright picture. It upscales non-4K content which looks great as well. I immediately saw a difference with 4K games in my Xbox one X and PS4 Pro. Even the Nintendo Switch games look more vivid. This TV can still go head to head with the best of them on the market.
3D quality is good although I prefer passive over active glasses.
The only con is only 2 HDMI Ports support full bandwidth.
In summary I’m very satisfied with this set.
