Mostly based on prior experience with Sony a7: To cut it short: a6400 is MUCH BETTER! When I bought my first camera (Sony a7), I had limited money and was too caught up in the idea of getting a full frame camera to be a “real” photographer. Although the a7 with the kit lens did take good photos, it is unbeatable to a6400 that has so much more features. (not to mention cheaper lens options!) If you’re trying to decide between this or older versions of full frame (since they’re similar budgets), I would definitely recommend this one (unless you want to take a lot of night pictures—a7 does slightly better in low light, but even so, you should save up to buy the a7s or something better given that you’re already going to spend 1k on these…for amateurs like me though a6400 is perfectly fine even for night photos) Some features that I love on the a6400: -SHARP images (the sharpness of a6400 kit lens is no where near the a7 ones) -and thus GREAT AUTOFOCUS (tracking focus even in video) -versatility of 18-135mm kit lens (honestly if you were to just use a single lens this would do mostly everything for you) -silent shutter!! (Underrated feature, since I didn’t realize at first how inconvenient it was to NOT have it on the a7) -in-built flash -flippable screen! (for that selfie) -touch screen (only in shooting mode-you can touch what you want to focus on) And if you have some extra cash to spend on, buy the Sigma 16mm F/1.4 (takes ultra crisp images + perfect bokeh) I couldn’t be any more happier with my current lineup of Sony a6400 + 18-135mm kit lens + Sigma 16mm lens. My only complaint for the a6400 is the horizontal banding/rolling shutter in some photos (esp under artificial light/ silent shutter mode). If buying, I suggest you look it up to see how you can prevent it. Even if you’re starting out or already a professional, I would definitely recommend this camera.

Very nice stability. Captures amazing detail with 135mm lens. Good for beginners and more advanced photographers. Works well in super cold conditions. Weight is very light and portable.

Love the animal auto-eye focus available in a download. Features galore. Short life battery so get spares. The glass side of the flip screen is always exposed. Canon M-50 allows you to hide the screen side. Stunning clarity with the 18-135mm kit lens. SD card is not that easy to extract. Overall, well worth the money. Canon and Nikon are playing catchup in the auto-eye focus area.

Excellent camera, the lens gives you a lot of options to play with and the battery life is excellent. They told me when buying that it might get overheated after recording for 30 minutes, however, I have noticed that usually stops after an hour and 10 minutes which I think is a great time.

First of all, I have to say that this is my first camera. I have owned it for about a two months and I am still learning to use it. This camera offers many possibilities and it has a good auto mode for those who start using it without any time to read the instruction manual. The IQ is good, the size is adequate for traveling it feels high quality and sturdy. Picture and video quality is top notch, and Lighting fast auto-focus no regrets so far.

This camera is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I took a film class in high school and wanted a camera similar but still nice and a good price range. It fits all of those requirements and exceeded my expectations. The camera takes amazing pictures even just with the basic lends, and takes awesome videos. I can’t wait to mess with it more and be able to take more videos and pictures.

Within a few days of release Iv had the opportunity to take this camera to Havasufalls and recorded a 2hr speech a 3 days later. Have yet to be able to edit the raw pics from the falls because of the Lightroom update has yet to come. But very hopeful because of the ease of use. Battery consumption overall have been good. I didn’t not come from a previous model so I can not comment on the comparison. Tilts screen very useful. I don’t mind the hot shoe placement. Timelaps feature was a little hard to et used to. But after a few tries. It became faster and faster for me to came changes. Have already recommended this camera for the price. And Sony is over delivering in my opinion. Glad I stayed with Sony.

Exactly what I was looking for- good for entry level hobbyist. Easy to use between user manual and readily available information on the internet. Included lens is find for where I'm at as far as learning how to use a digital camera rather than my phone, and can be upgraded in the future. Durable- I bring it hiking all the time.

This is my first camera. I plan to make YouTube videos with it. I’m still just playing around with it and trying to learn everything there is to know with the camera, but I do love it. The build quality is great. It shoots video in 4K and snaps some amazing daytime photos. Low light shots are a bit of a let down, and image stabilization is not as good as some of the higher end Sony’s. There are a lot of complaints about the menu, but honestly I don’t have a problem with it. Overall a great learning camera with a lot to grow into.

Coming from a canon sl1, this adds a number of features that I wanted. Wireless connectivity, better focusing, fast shooting, compact body. I wasn’t super excited about moving to an entirely different lens system but at least there are TONS of e mount lenses. It’s actually one of the reasons I chose this over the Nikon z50. The 18-135 lens option is fantastic. You should either go for this one or body only and pick up your own lens. The 18-50 option is kinda meh. I picked up that lens secondhand due to its tiny size and totally regret it. The 18-135 is better in every way and gives you an extremely versatile focal length. I have had 2 issues. Occasionally when I tap the screen for focus tracking, it gets stuck and won’t cancel so I have to switch focus settings to get out or turn it off and back on. It only takes a moment and since I’m not a professional this doesn’t severely impact me in any way but if this camera was my income I’d maybe send it back. The other thing is the janky Sony imaging edge mobile app. Wish Sony would invest in making that experience better. Everything else about the camera is fantastic. Incredible autofocus, insanely fast burst, lens options, surprisingly comfortable body, compact for travel. There’s a lot to like and I plan on keeping it for a while.

Amazing camera!! I’m considered a beginner photographer and this camera is easy to use. Very realistic in color. Moving from mobile photography to camera, a whole difference, especially in saturation.

When I first arrived at Potomac yard I wasn’t sure what lens to use but the worker helped me decided she talked about every key factor of the camara and convinced me and I’m glad I did. When I went to go pick it up at a different location I showed proof purchase and showed my ID and the process was simple because the workers are polite to you.

Budget friendly for the beginner like me. Its compact size and versatility make it great for on-the-go shooting without lugging around heavy gear. Also offers 4K video. Loved it.

Awesome camera. Full frame would definitely be an upgrade but I think this is the best camera that is not full frame.

I am very happy with my camera. Its my hobby and this is the first camera I bought. Excellent photos, excellent videos, easy to share photos to my Samsung S23 Ultra. At first I found it hard to use it, but day after day I learned most of the settings. I definitely recomend.

Honestly. It is a very good camera. Highly recommend a bag and a tripod. But very easy use. Good pictures. I will say alot of it has to go down to editing. Raw, photos are going to be very hit or miss, editing will help you make em better!

Excellent starter camera, main useful points is 11 FPS shooting, auto focus tracking great for video and high movement (kids). Great photo quality, look up a guide for best settings.
