    THIS IS ONE SWEET LAPTOP!

I don't know where to begin. It's my first laptop. I have a desktop at home. I wanted a laptop to use while I'm playing video games. I'm no spring chicken, but I play games to relax me. My main computer isn't in the same room as my gaming consoles. I use walkthroughs a lot because of the type of games that I play. I've been printing them out and the cost of the ink was killing me. I wanted to be as wise choosing a laptop as I am choosing a game. In short, I wanted as much bang as I could get for the buck. This laptop fits that criteria. It is a beautiful laptop aesthetically. It's body form is graceful yet extremely durable. As I said, I'm not so-o young so it was important that I got one that allowed me to use a mouse and this machine comes with a blue tooth. The wireless mouse that I purchased separately works very well and you wouldn't believe how beautiful a movie looks on it. I put in "the transformer" movie and was blown away by the visuals. The speed of the processor is incredible. If you want it to run even faster then go to the start menu, control panel, and look for 'Mobile PC'. Then select change battery setup. This way, if you are stationary and are near a socket, you can lower the way the battery performs and increase the speed of the computer. Mind you, it's already fast to begin with. Likewise, you can even reverse it and increase the length of the battery run. That's just fly. This laptop comes with a fire wire (thought it's called an ilink) and a host of other hubs and ports to allow you to hook up just about anything that you want to. Getting the express card is a big plus since not all laptops come with it standard. I think that Sony io is setting the new standard. I do believe that I was up and running on the net in about 5 minutes. I kid you not. No matter how many times I turn off my laptop, I'm immediately reconnected to the web the instant that it boots up. I'm using a router, but, I don't think that it would matter if I weren't . It's covered every base and allows you a million ways to connect. Perhaps the gentleman who's battery died got a fluke defective machine or battery. I'm inclined to believe that simply because the machine is made incredibly sturdy while having the nerve to look uncommonly sleek. It feels VERY LIGHT un your lap, keeps a great balance while there, and, all of this while having a 16.4 inch screen. I bought the bag to carry it in from best buy. I chose a 17" bag and it fits to a tee. This is NOT a heavy laptop. Just one that is linear, well made, runs well, and has all of the bells and whistles. I haven't had a problem with Vista since I'm familiar with the idea of a program asking you to let another program into your system on it's first attempt. Anyone that uses Zonalarm will be familiar with that process. As for the rest of the Vista stuff, I got rid of all of the trial offers in the machine and thereby removed the conflicts so that I could install my office 2000 and my Norton 2006 anti-virus. That one required an upgrade to 2009 and asked me to remove this program called Onecare. I was only way to happy to do that. In conclusion,I GOT way MUCH BANG FOR MY BUCK. I LOVE THIS MACHINE. No one that buys this laptop will be disappointed.

    Great Computer, No Vista Ultimate

This is a great notebook for the price, but be forewarned: the text on Best Buy Online stating that this machine comes preloaded with Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 is not true. Sony has confirmed that they do not ship this model with Ultimate installed but rather Vista Home Premium. I complained about it at the store where I picked mine up and they agreed to install Ultimate free of charge after trying to tell me that the hardward was not designed to work with Ultimate. I had them do the upgrade anyway and aside from a few software updates that I had to tweak it works just fine. I needed Ultimate installed so that I could join the machine to a domain. If you don't need this and you don't need to remote in or encrypt your file system, Home Premium should suit you just fine. As far as the rest of the specs go, this machine is a powerhouse. I have had lots of good luck with machines in Sony's Vaio line of notebooks and desktops and this one looks like it will not disappoint. This is the first computer I've owned that doesn't seem to labor under the performance overhead that Vista demands. 4GB of RAM, 64 bit Intel Core duo centrino processor, beautiful display, HDMI output and built in webcam make this machine exactly what I need.

I love, love, love this laptop! I use to have a Toshiba Tecra A9 (purchased in 2005), and this is my first laptop purchase since then! This baby is faster, more sleek, and has more features than my old Tecra. I kid you not, this laptop is worth the $1000 bucks I paid for it! My thing is, if you're going to do something, DO IT BIG!!! And I did that for sure! With a 16.4 inch screen and great sound, amazing quality, wonderful features, etc...I couldn't be happier! It has all of the latest technology! GET THIS LAPTOP...but only if you're cool! I'm cool...Are you?

Originally bought the fw140...was a wonderful machine. Being obsessive/compulsive; I returned it for something with more "horsepower". Tried powerhouse hp dv7-1175 poor build, poor software(it couldn't keep time!!). Brought that back(thank you, thank you Best Buy!). Finally got the fw235 and am SO HAPPY with it! Machine is well constructed and runs like a dream. I am VERY impressed with Sony laptops. Two issues...Graphics leave a lot to be desired...definitely not a game machine. Speakers suck, plain and simple...should be better for an entertainment 'puter. These two issues kept me from giving this 5 stars. If you are looking for a gaming machine, this is not it. If you are looking for a well built laptop with a beautiful display and solid operation...this is it.

    Terrific Computer

I just bought this computer about a week ago and i found it amazing. The computer out of the box started up so fast. I set up all the settings and took off some software that wasnt necessary. I found the battery working terrificly with a little meter telling you an esitmated battery life left. The sounds quality is terrific for playing movies and music, the speakers are loud and clear. This computer is built great and works great. I recommend it to anyone who wants a pc. Anyone who said anything about the battery being bad or the computer failing obviously didnt know how to work the computer correctly. I get 2:30 of battery life no matter where it is. This computer is great

    Bad Laptop for XP Lovers.

Having research on bestbuy I found this laptop with a great design and specification that meets my need. I bought it and i found out that the design was truly nice and the speed was good. It does not make any noise. And during the sale, i got a good price for this laptop. I used XP before, that is why i have so many programs that works with XP. Today, i tried to install all of my programs to this laptop and i was surprised that i could not install it. I have to downgrade this laptop to XP to enable me to use all of my programs. I contacted SONY representative and sadly he said that this laptop cannot be downgraded to XP. They are still doing the test or something to provide the driver for this laptop to be able to be downgraded to XP. I feel regret buying this laptop. I wish they give detail information including this matter on every products that they offer.

Got this laptop a little over a week ago right when it came down to $750. Was between the 15.4 in sony the 140 this and the c115....the price is amazing for the peformance and quality you get in this 16.4 in laptop. And it weighs only as much as the 15.4 inch, it is a lot lighter than you would expect for the screen size. Easy to set up and put to use. Couldn't be much happier!

Christmas gift for my son. Primarily used for school but great for WOW gaming. GEEK SQUAD set it up and blitzed all the junk. Gavin at the Stroudsburg store helped me out finding the best deal for what we needed. Very happy with my purchase.

This is a great computer. I have used a on line business and have stored alot on it!!! I have never had a real issue with a Sony other then a bulb burning out on the screen. They make a great product for an advanced to beginner computer user. The only issue I have is the battery length. It should come with a longer life battery. I also put the computer on my lap, and set it on the bed. Once yo do that you can kiss your battery goodbye. Mine now lasts 5 minutes. keep it on a hard surface and you are safe. Overall...I think thses are great and would buy another one.

I have had this computer a littel over a week. The application for writing to a disc continues to crash and requires starting from the beginning. This happened several times causing hours of extra work. Explorer also crashed requiring a re-boot of the computer. The computer lost contact with the router even though two other computers on the network continued to work fine. The computer needed a re-boot. several other applications also crashed. Buy it only if you like to keep performing ALT-CNTRL-DEL or system restart!!!
