Excellent headphones
|Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you aren’t planning on spending 500 dollars on a pair of Airpods max this is the best option available. Pros: -Easy controls in-app on Android or iPhone. -Wired option. (Aux) -All-day battery. -GREAT bass and mid-tones. -Solid build quality. -Comfortable during standard use. -Noise canceling is way better than any other headphones I’ve used (better than ANY airpods). Cons: -Treble is slightly lacking compared to bass (still sound amazing). -Touch controls are difficult and iffy. -A little chunky(if you like to lay down while using headphone they’re pretty uncomfortable). -Transparency mode SUCKS compared to airpods pros but on their own its fine enough not to bother me. I love using these headphones, the only reason I didn’t leave five stars was because of the transparency mode.

Best Buy I ever made
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I had done some extensive research about these headphones because I wasn’t sure if I wanted this model or the newer X5 ones. I even considered getting the Apple headphones for a split second. Thankfully I came across someone who actually purchased these ones and let me try them on. The ones on display were a bit stretched out from constant try-ons but the person’s headphone’s were in perfect condition. Based on that experience I decided that the X4 were the most optimal choice. Not only because they’re comfortable all around, from the ears to the headband (something Apple’s didn’t have), but also the quality sound, the app where you can change the settings depending on the listening experience you wish to have based on the music you’re listening to. Although the touch feature for the controls can take a bit to get a hang of, they’re not an issue to me. Ever since my purchase I can’t stop wearing them and remembering music I want to listen to specifically with the headphones! 20/10 recommend

Stop researching/waffling like I did, buy them!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I RESEARCHED HEADPHONES FOR OVER 1.5 MONTHS. I WANTED BEST AUDIO QUALITY BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES, FOR HIGH QUALITY (FLAC) MUSIC. YES I KNOW, "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT WIRELESS THEN???" CONVENIENCE AND FLEXIBILTY BETWEEN DEVICES. I NEVER HAD ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLING BEFORE, AND QUITE FRANKLY I WAS SKEPTICAL. I WAS CONCERNED IT WOULD DEGRADE MUSIC DUE TO CANCELLING NOISE AT SIMILAR MUSIC FREQUENCY. SO I TRIED TO AVOID A.N.C., HOWEVER THE MAJORITY OF MY RESEARCH ALWAYS POINTED BACK TO THESE. I WAFFLED BACK AND FORTH FOR A LONG TIME, THEN THEY WENT ON SALE AT SAME LOW PRICE AS NOV 2020 BLACK FRIDAY. KICKED IN MY $100 REWARDS AND FIGURED IT WAS WORTH THE RISK FOR SUCH LOW COST. OMG, ONE OF THE BEST PURCHASES I MADE IN QUITE SOME TIME! AUDIO GREAT! ANC GREAT! BATTERY LIFE EXCELLENT!! AND COMFY FOR MY BIG HEAD!!! FOR EXAMPLE, I LISTENED TO MUSIC FOR 3 STRAIGHT HRS, 3 STRAIGHT DAYS W/ANC ON. BATTERY WAS 88%! AFTER 1 WEEK OF USE IT WAS 45%. THEN THEY SAT UNUSED FOR 1 WEEK AFTER TAKING OFF CHARGER. WHEN I TURNED ON, THEY WERE STILL 100%. IF YOU CAN CATCH A SALE, OR MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE, YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU PURCHASED THEM. ONLY NEGATIVE THING I CAN SAY IS THE TOUCH CONTROLS (SPECIFICALLY FOR VOLUME) IS TRICKY TO MASTER. WILL NEED MORE PRACTICE.

Why did I put off buying these for so long???
|Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been planning to buy a pair of Sony 1000X headphones since the original MDR-1000X came out, and I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a pair of 1000X-M4s on Black Friday. I knew they were good headphones—I've always known they're great headphones—but they STILL exceeded my expectations. They're comfortable. They have excellent noise cancellation. And the audio quality, especially on the high end (vocals, snares) are HANDS DOWN the best I've ever heard. I genuinely couldn't believe how crisp and smooth the audio is. They're feature rich, especially with the companion app. I'm not the biggest fan of the touch controls, but that also might just be something I need to adjust to. Seriously, buy these headphones. You will not regret it.

Switched from Bose QC 35ii
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently bought these to replace a pair of Bose QC 35ii's that'd I'd been using for travel for several years, and the leather had finally given way (and aftermarket replacement ear pads just ruined them). I've always liked these Sony's, and bit the bullet and switched. Overall, I do really like these. They are a tick heavier than the Bose equivalents, but not all that noticeable even with a few hours of wear. The sound equalizing is really nice, and a big differentiator from Bose. Really strong bass. It's more noticeable which is L/R compared to the Bose. It's a little thing, and maybe I'm just a moron, but there's a visible difference. The 3.5mm cord is a lot heftier than what Bose provides. I never broke mine, but I was always worried it would happen. Great battery life. A couple negative marks (and why I can't give them 5 stars)... The "vacuum" created with ANC is a lot more noticeable to me than with my old Bose headset, and I'm not in love with that after using these on a few trips. Also, I'm not in love with the lack of buttons and dependence on touch "gestures" for controlling volume, skipping, and pausing. I also worry that, over time, there will be visible wear on that headphone (right side). At least for volume, it'd be nice to have more tactile control (see people's complaints about touch screens on cars). Definitely would recommend these though if they're in budget. All-in-all...great set of headphones.

Great sound quality
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought these to replace my Beats, so far they’ve been great. The battery easily lasts the week and I use them daily. They’re comfortable to wear and don’t feel very tight around the ears (like the Beats did). Noise-cancelling works so great I don’t even need to put music on sometimes. All that said, I don’t like how they stay connected to the last device they were connected to as I switch between my phone and mac often. The volume adjustment or the pause function by touch seem to lag. I really like the voice when you’ve been connected. They are a bit pricy but I still think they’re worth it.

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for two things when purchasing these headphones: comfort for my large head and excellent ANC to spare me the sound of my sisters when they're on discord voice chat nearby. I've tried a handful of other sets of headphones that have managed one of the two requirements, but never both. The Sony's manage both and have great sound to my untrained ears. The only ding I'd give them is the touch controls in general, but I tend to use these with my laptop and control most aspects with that rather than the headphones. Still 5 stars because I wasn't planning to toy with touch controls much anyway and the thing that matters (ANC) has a physical button.

Great Sound, Mixed Features.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These sound very good and the features they come with can be very useful, though some of those features have a few annoying knacks that could annoy some people. Again, if sound is all you care about, these are great noise cancelling headphones that sound fantastic. Now for the issues. These headphones have a few quality of life features. For example, if you're wearing them and you begin walking, it'll turn off noise cancelling. Sometimes. If you tap the right headphone, it'll pause. Sometimes. If you take off your headphones it'll pause your media automatically. Sometimes. There are some great features though a lot of them are unreliable. These features can be turned off via the headphones app if it annoys you. Overall, a solid pair of headphones. I give a thumbs up.

Good sound quality & Noise cancelation
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to pair with good sound, battery life & better bass than previous sony xm3. New feature is ability to "auto hear" when mic detects someone talking to you, but I didn't care for that option personally. Must use touch controls to change volume, track, answer. Some people will not like that, but the device looks better without buttons.

Great choice prev gen noise cancelling headphones
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are comfortable on the ear, have excellent noise cancellation, and top sound quality when using Tidal Hi-Fi Plus listening. I give them a four-star rating because I can't get used to the touch sensitive controls and I still prefer physical buttons on the edge of an ear cup. Also they infrequently loose Bluetooth connection at random times, however I suspect his is my phone and not the headphones. They were a welcome upgrade from my older pair of Sony headphones with older USB-micro connection. Definitely worth the purchase when on sale.

A premium set of headphones
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A big step up in noise cancelling from my Sennheiser HD4.50BTNC headphones, sound quality is very good. Don't love the app, some of the things in it are not very intuitive. Touch on the right earphone can be quirky, too. Sometimes it doesn't recognize taps when I am deliberately doing them, sometimes I'm just adjusting the headphones on my head or moving my hand in that area and it registers a tap. I would recommend turning off the audible notifications in the app, when outside they can happen pretty often because of traffic or wind. Very comfortable for long listening sessions. Synced to my S9 easily, but I also have a Samsung 4k TV that it synced to, but has some issues maintaining connectivity, there are occasional dropouts in sound, not sure if that's the TV or the headphones. Over-all, despite the various quirks, quite happy with the sound and quality of these headphones.

Great choice! We're glad to hear you appreciate this amazing headphones especially the sound of it. Good to know you're comfortable using the headphones. We appreciate your feedback regarding the app and some occasional sound skipping when paired with your TV. When connecting the headset to a Bluetooth device, use the headset at least 10 m (30 feet) away from the wireless LAN device. If this headset is used within 10 m (30 feet) of a wireless LAN device, turn off the wireless LAN device. Use this headset and the Bluetooth device as near to each other as possible. The situation may be improved by changing the wireless playback quality settings. Set the headset to “Priority on stable connection” mode or fixing the wireless playback mode with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app.

Comfortable Headphones with Great Sound Quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great set of wireless noise canceling headphones. I bought these to replace an older pair of Sony mdr-xb950n1 cans. So far I am enjoying the upgraded features, improved comfort, and sound quality. For certain types of music I do miss the extra bass punch of the older pair, but the sound is much improved overall, as is the build quality. I love that the music pauses automatically when the headphones are removed and resumes when put back on. The noise cancelling and hear-through features are also quite nice. One of the only issues I have is with the lack of physical sound level buttons. The touch swipe feature is quite finicky and makes for a frustrating experience at times. Other than a wish for more physical buttons, I really have no complaints about this solid pair of headphones.

Works Surprisingly Well within Apple’s echo system
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was debating between this and Apple’s AirPods Max but ultimately went with Sony because it’s cheaper. My main concern was how well it would work with Apple (volume control, Siri, switching devices, etc.). Given that Apple’s headsets use a special chip that allows for seamless switching, I thought it would be a mission just to get Sony to switch from my iPad to my iPhone. I was wrong. Sony has an app that you should install. This app allows you to pair 2 devices to the headphones, allowing for fast switching between the two. Noice cancelling is pretty good and the sound is way better than my Beats and AirPods Pro. One thing I don’t like is the touch controls. I had. To turn the feature off because I would accidentally activate Siri.

ANC, PNC, fit/comfortability, Design, Quality.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To begin with, this is a review for the average user. I have Skullcandy venue and AirPods Pro, each totaling appx. $130 & $250 respectively, so this is the comparison. The Skullcandy headphones were good, but they didnt make me say "wow". Average sound, ANC worked, though not well. I discovered that an ice bagging machine is a good test, considering it is very loud, but not machine shop loud. With the SC I could hear the ice dropping out of the machine even at maximum volume. The AirPods Pro, however, mask the sound completely and without using max volume, same as these sony WH. They slip around the head, but that may be because I have a smaller one, and the touch controls are a pain sometimes but the sound quality is miles ahead of any Skullcandy, and a fair amount better than the AirPod pro. The mic really sucks though.

Your feedback about fit, touch controls, and the mic quality is greatly appreciated. Make sure to adjust the headband for optimum fit and comfort.
For the best overall performance, it is recommended to install the latest software version (via the Sony Headphones Connect app).
The sensor of the touch sensor control panel is built into the flat surface of the right unit. Operate within the range of the sensor. When you swipe your finger forward/backward or up/down on the touch sensor control panel, the touch sensor control panel may not work correctly depending on the angle at which the headset is worn or the direction your head is facing:
a. When you swipe your finger forward/backward, make the movements perpendicular to the headband.
b. When you swipe your finger up/down, make the movements parallel to the headband.
To improve call quality, re-establish the connection between the source device and the headset. Select HFP or HSP for the profile.
Sony takes all feedback seriously. Rest assured that this will help us improve our products.
Hope these steps improve your experience. Thanks for sharing your review and for choosing Sony

Excellent headphones, as expected
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent headphones, as expected. When compared to the WH-1000X-M2, these headphones are a significant step up. They are much lighter, with a nice matte finish. This makes them more comfortable to wear on the ear for longer periods of time. I'm not an audiophile, so the sound quality itself seems comparable, but but the noise cancelling is improved. The ability to connect to two different devices is very convenient. The touch controls can be a bit finnicky. The app is nice for adjusting the sound profile, but there are still some features what I'd call gimmicky (360 audio, etc). The headphones have the ability to pause music automatically when the individual wearing the headphones speaks, but this can be overpowering at time (ie stopping music when laughing). Overall, highly recommend.

Best Bluetooth Headset...again!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing set of headphones. Class leading noise cancelling and near audiophile quality audio with the right device. As a previous owner of the XM2's, the XM4's are lighter weight and much more comfortable to wear during the day. As more are working from home and using telecommunications for work, this is quite important and will go a long way. Call quality is also top notch. One downside is the touch controls on the earpiece has been less responsive that previous versions. Often takes multiple inputs for your touches to be recognized. Overall, would recommend these to just about anyone.

We're glad that you are enjoying the sound quality, comfort, call quality, and noise canceling function of the headphones. It's unfortunate that you are not having a complete experience because of the touch control. These steps may help you when the touch sensor is not responding correctly:
-The sensor of the touch sensor control panel is built into the flat surface of the right unit. Operate within the range of the sensor.
-When you swipe your finger forward/backward or up/down on the touch sensor control panel, the touch sensor control panel may not work correctly depending on the angle at which the headset is worn or the direction your head is facing.

Great but not the Bose-killer
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted these to outperform my Bose 700s, since I felt like the XM3s beat out the QC 35s in every way except some small annoying things (manual device switching, one device connection, etc.). I waited anxiously for months for their release and bought them right away. They’re good, but not great. They solved some of the small annoying things, but they still make you very reliant on a pretty non-friendly app interface to control your headphones. The touch controls are ok but it hammers your ear drum when you tap on the ear cups. The ANC and sound quality seemed to me to be almost identical to the XM3s, which I also owned. Very good in both cases, energetic sound, punchy bass, and almost no outside noise and very low hiss. These are really good headphones, but sadly, still not a Bose-killer for me. The 700s have the ANC edge, the phone call clarity edge, the fullest sound, and the easiest setup and app usability edge.

great noise canceling!
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love these so much! > $250 or less is PERFECT deal. I like these more than the XH-1000XM5 because these for easier storage in backpacks. Let me say 2 things, these are NOT GYM FRIENDLY. I do see people wearing these at the gym but the leather does not feel like it is meant for sweat or being wet for extended periods of time. I am biased because personally I prefer how wireless earbuds feel but defintely feel more like the type of headphones you would wear at an office, library, bus, or even home if you have loud roommates/neighbors. noise canceling is phenomenal! I love wearing these when I vacuum because if i turn the music loud enough, i can barely hear the vacuum! Touch controls: I gotta say that I am not a fan of touch controls, i would prefer physical buttons like the Bose QC45 Why i prefer these over the Bose QC45: Placing your hands over the right ear-cup temporarily activates and boosts the microphones and lowers your music/audio that allows you to hear your outside environment. Theoretically you can just jam out to music but if someone starts talking to you, this feature is the best! My only pain with these headphones is that they are heavy and get SUPER HOT after an hour or two. I find that after extended periods of time with the noise canceling mode on, my ears start to turn red and sweat. I hate this alot but it seems to be my personal experience with ALL noise cancelling headphones i have tried. The QC 45s are easier to wear for extended periods of time if that is more important to you but there is always going to be something that can be improved upon in every product so pick your poison QC45: Extended comfort + Physical buttons vs XM4s: Ambient Sound pass through + superior features

Great design, even better sound
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got these headphones when there was a little sale going on but I have to say it's well worth the full price. The mark 4's not only look great but they sound amazing. I can put these on, use the noise cancelling, and listen to my music with no distractions, even when sitting next to someone in the car playing their own music over the speakers and singing as well. I'm glad I made this purchase. On the flip side, there are two minor issues I've run into since using these. One, the touch controls are a little bit unresponsive at times. For instance, double tapping to pause sometimes takes a few tries to work. Moreover, the touch controls are only available on the right side of the headphones. Though this is fine I suppose in most instances. Two, the battery percentage is perhaps inaccurate? When I first got these, they came supposedly at 100% battery because that's what the headphones said when I pressed the power button. However, it kept saying that for a while, until all of a sudden it dropped to 40%. There was no gradual battery drainage i.e. 100% > 75% > 50% > 25%. I haven't been using them for very long so I'll have to see if this can be fixed or not. Aside from these very minor problems I've encountered, these headphones are an amazing product and I'm excited to keep using them, especially when taking flights.
I would recommend this to a friendBrand response from SonyListens
