It’s an average speaker for me. Sound is good and clear. App is neat and equalizer offers a few options but doesn’t seem to make any difference for me. No real bass. Overall an average speaker. I don’t feel like I’m getting 17hrs of battery life, but that could also be due to me using volume loud. I love Sony products, but for price point this one didn’t deliver and my own fault for settling.

    ## Design The Sony SRS-XE200 speaker has a new, unique design where it is not obvious where the actual speakers are located. Instead, Sony is using a new “line-shape diffuser” on this speaker which helps distribute the sound more evenly around the speaker. The speaker has a modern design with a mostly plastic exterior and some fabric accents behind it, that for some reason makes me think of the Cybertruck when I see it. Aside from some small LED indicator lights, there are no “party lights” on the XE200 as compared to something like Sony’s SRS-XB32. There is a carrying strap attached to the speaker that is almost too long as it sometimes gets in the way of setting the speaker down on a flat surface. Towards the back of the speaker, you’ll find the power button, Bluetooth button, play/pause button, volume buttons, battery status button, and (not found on many Bluetooth speaker) a dedicated mute button for the microphone. The USB-C charging port can be found under the flap on the back of the speaker. ## Performance Coming from the Sony SRS-XB32 speaker, I did notice that the bass is not as strong on the XE200 out of the box. However, you can increase (or decrease) the bass (or mids or treble) through the equalizer in Sony’s Music Center app, but there is no dedicated “bass boost” function. Still, sound quality is great and the speaker gets loud enough to fill a medium to large-ish sized room, making it great for indoor or outdoor social gatherings. The new Line-Shape Diffuser does indeed help distribute the sound from the speaker to not only directly in front of the speaker, but to the sides of the speaker as well. So you don’t need to be sitting exactly in front of the speaker to get the best sound. ## Features Line-Shape Diffuser: Looking at the speaker, you’ll see a narrow fabric area on the front between larger plastic panels. If you’re like me, you would think this would limit the sound coming out of the speaker, but it instead helps spread the sound out to about 60-70 degrees on either side. Battery Care feature: This isn’t on by default, but in Sony’s Music Center app, you can enable the Battery Care feature to limit charging to about 90%. This helps prolong the lifespan of the speaker’s battery because, like our smartphones, we should not keep lithium batteries charged to 100% all of the time. You can, of course, disable this feature if you do indeed want the battery at 100% for a long camping trip, for example. IP67 water and dust resistance: This speaker is ideal for travel or using pool-side with its IP67 rating, so you don’t need to worry about splashes, sand, or dust (just make sure to keep the charging port closed tightly). Echo Canceling microphone: You can also use this speaker for work calls as it has an echo canceling microphone. In testing the speaker in an empty room by recording myself, I did indeed notice that the speaker seemed to eliminate any echo from my voice as long as I was facing the front of the speaker directly. ## Battery Life The speaker can achieve up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge, and uses a common USB-C cable for recharging. A quick 10 minute charge can get you just over an hour of playback time when time is of the essence. As noted above, you can enable the Battery Care feature in the Sony Music Center app to help prolong the lifespan ## Summary The Sony SRS-XE200 speaker is an ideal outdoor musical companion thanks to its great sound quality and IP67 water and dust resistance. The speaker can also be used as a speakerphone for work calls with its echo canceling microphone.

The Sony XE200 is one of Sony’s latest Bluetooth portable speakers. This speaker boasts a “line shaped diffuser and X-balanced speakers” to provide a wide sound stage. In addition, this speaker keeps the IP67 rating that many of Sony’s portage speaker provide. After using this speaker, it leaves much to be desired. In The Box: - XE200 Speaker - USB to USB-C Charging Cable - Manuals/Quick Start Guide Setup: Out of the box setup is a breeze if you already have the Sony Music Center App. Open this up with the speaker powered on and the app finds the speaker immediately. Once you go through the few screens to register your speaker, it’s ready to go! If you want to pair this via Bluetooth, you can do this too by going through your devices Bluetooth settings and finding the XE200. Either method is very simple. Since this speaker supports BT 5.2, this allows you to enable faster connecting/pairing with supported devices. I would recommend using the Sony app so you can get the most out of this speaker in terms of setting, EQ, and power options. The speaker has dedicated buttons on the side for most tasks but this doesn’t allow EQ adjustment. Speaking of the buttons, they are very tactile and are easy to read/use. You’ll find buttons for power On/Off, BT Pairing, Play/Pause/Phone, Volume Up/Down, and Battery Saver? and Mute Mic. The speaker design is fairly nice with a flap on the back for USB-C charging. The cloth strap feels robust and the overall build quality seems up to Sony standards. Here is where the disappointment starts. Sound Quality: Given I have had MANY encounters with Sony portable speakers over the years along with headphones of all types, I had an expectation with this speaker. Well, this is the first time that expectation was not met and actually I would go as far to say this has a disappointing sound quality. Now let me preface this with the fact that I understand this is not part of their XB series speakers which offer Extra Bass but even given this fact, the speaker sounds extra flat. I have tried EQ adjustments and different streaming methods with no avail. The speaker holds pretty true to Sony’s claims of very little distortion but as the volume exceeds that 60% threshold or so the speaker loses what little bass it has. The speaker volume is acceptable although I would say it’s not overly loud but because this is their entry level X series product it more than acceptable in that department. Because sound quality did not meet my expectations (and is the primary function of speaker like this) I would highly recommend looking at Sony’s XB series. The XB33 is right around the same price and should offer sound just like my XB31 which is far superior sounding. The only downside is it might be missing a few features this speaker has but offers others that this one doesn’t have. It’s a tradeoff. Features: The XE200 has enhanced microphone technology called “Echo Cancelling Technology”. This allows two people to talk at the same time without cutting one of them off. It also has multipoint connection to allow two devices to connect at the same time. The microphones seemed to perform fine in my testing with the device. The speaker features quick charging capabilities and battery care. There is a setting to limit charging to 90% of capacity in hopes of the battery lasting longer. I turned this on because 90% of the 16hr claimed battery life is plenty for me as I always charge up before 0%. The quick charge gives you 70 minutes of playback in just 10 minutes of charging. The IP67 rating means this speaker is dust and water proof and offers shock resistance. The carrying strap should help with transportation as does the small size. Overall: This was the first Sony product I can recall in many years to not meet my expectations in sound quality. Even though this is the entry level speaker in this lineup, it doesn’t compare to the similarly priced XB33 in terms of sound quality. When you compare those two speakers, the size, weight, and price are so close that I would happily loose one or two features for better low end sound quality. Hopefully this helps anyone looking into the XE200 that might want some low end tones in their portable speaker. The XE200 just doesn’t offer that like the XB series even in the same size speaker. Pros: - Compact, light - Design, Build Quality - Buttons, Carrying Strap - IP67 Rating - Microphones - BT 5.2 Connectivity Cons: - Sounds Extremely Flat (Even for it’s size) - No Reverse Charging (Powerbank function)

A very good speaker. I don’t think it packed as much power as I would have liked in regards to volume as bass. Not a ton of low end, even though you can help that a tad bit with the app’s EQ. Sound is very clear and the battery seems to last as long as advertised. Not sure why this level of speaker has skyrocketed as far as price, but this seemed to be the best deal for the price point when I listened to a few at the store.

We appreciate your feedback and we are sorry that you are having issues with your Sony Bluetooth speaker. I’ve been a long-time fan of Sony audio products and this product continues to deliver on the same great quality with a lightweight, durable, and great-sounding speaker…especially for the price. Rather than a round cylinder which most speakers like this opt for, they went with a 5-sided, pentagon shape which I tend to like as it won’t roll off a table if it were to tip over. The other advantage of this 5-sided design is that you have options if you do want to lay it on it’s side. I found the audio quality to be quite good in either orientation, whether it’s standing straight up or laid on one side. One thing to note here though about audio quality is that even though it has a 5-sided design, it doesn’t necessarily emit sound in all directions. Most of the sound can be heard from about 270 degrees around the speaker but the back portion tends to be weaker. The speaker itself is made from a combination of rubberized silicon for most of the speaker which is nice and grippy so it won’t slide of a surface and the rest is made up of fabric which covers the actual speakers. It’s a very classy look for being a durable speaker that has an IP67 dust and water resistant rating. I like that this speaker is lightweight and I appreciate the size, but for being their smallest speaker in their XE lineup, it’s not a super small speaker by any means, but it’s still very lightweight. Battery life is very respectable with up to 16 hours on a charge and I found that to be pretty accurate, even with my listening habits being probably louder than most. Sound quality is surprisingly good for a speaker of this size where it has a balanced sound profile out of the box where everything is crisp and clear even at high volumes. One thing I found interesting was the range of this speaker in regards to how far away you could hear the sound. One night, I had the speaker on one end of my house in the kitchen which is a good 50-75 feet away from my bedroom and I mistakenly thought the music was coming from my much bigger soundbar. One thing that Sony die-hards may miss though is what was seemed to be always found on Sony speakers - the Mega Bass button. Being a huge fan of Sony products, this almost seemed like it wasn’t even a Sony product without it, but I have to say that the sound profile is nice and balanced - certainly less bass than a Sony speaker with mega bass enabled but more bass than that same speaker without. So they seemed like they split the difference and found a balance without having that “turbo” mode. However, there is a customizable equalizer that you can access with their Music Center app - works great for customizing the sound profile but that one-touch mega bass button was also nice, although a lot of the times that mega bass button may have been a bit too strong. The other thing missing from this speaker is an auxiliary port which I suppose may be a sign of the times of everything going wireless, but just something to be aware of. One thing that I loving about Sony products that have been released in the last few years is that their packaging is nearly all recyclable carboard - it’s a nice touch and makes you realize how much un-recyclable materials some other companies use. Overall, another great Sony audio product.

      Hi Holly,
Thank you for your time writing this review. We are sorry but the SRSXE200 speaker is not specifically advertised as having Extra bass. If you are looking for the Sony speaker with Mega or Extra bass, we recommend our XG300, XG500, XB43and XB23.

However, With the XE200 Wireless speaker. - A Line-Shape Diffuser and X-balanced speakers provide a wide sound stage, with powerful bass and richer sound. Pair with IP67 Waterproof, dustproof1 and shockproof design, this speaker is made for even the strongest elements. The bass effect and sound quality will also depend on the source and quality of the music you are playing. We suggest playing quality audio for the best listening experience. We also recommend using the Sony | Music Center app. It has a sound quality setting and equalizer adjustment that you can use to adjust and enhance your listening experience. Great Everyday Speaker

This speaker has almost everything I wanted in a Bluetooth speaker. By almost everything I mean the Bluetooth connects seamlessly, the sound is very good quality, the design is very sleek, the battery life is long, and the technology in the speaker is outstanding. In addition, the size and weight are just right and the multi directional sound lets you fill the room evenly with sound for everyone (versus it being loud to the person in front of the speaker and quiet for everyone else). I also really like the USB-C charger, which aligns with so many other devices. The two things that the speaker was missing was an auxiliary input and solid bass. We still use some older technology ipod type devices and it would be nice to be able to plug into the speaker directly. Regarding the bass, I realize this is the lower end speaker so it is not a disappointment but thought I would point it out in this review so that someone needing more bass can upgrade to the next level speaker (there are three levels of this speaker). And finally, a bit more focus on the sound quality. The sound has plenty of volume (we rarely go above 50%) and the highs are crisp and clear. We listen to a lot of hip hop and while there is some bass, we wish it was a little stronger. Overall, this is a great everyday speaker that is easy to carry around and use wherever you may be.

      Hi AndrewE,
We really appreciate you taking the time to share your rating with us! While we are glad you like the XE200 speaker, we're sorry to hear that we were not able to meet your full expectations with the unit. Bass quality may also vary depending on the music that you are playing. You can use the equalizer function of the Sony | Music Center app to adjust the bass or tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. Solid Effort, But May Not Be Everyone's Taste...

Although Sony continues to lead with creativity and quality in the very crowded market of Blue Tooth speakers overall (especially for Bass Lovers), This latest effort is not quite what I have come to expect from Sony speakers, although still a solid speaker overall. Blue Tooth connections were smooth, seamless, and very easy and intuitive to do, so no surprises there. I am a fan of speakers that still have physical buttons on the speaker, in case of unforeseen issues that could arise from speakers that almost strictly use apps to operate. The dedicated battery stamina button is great and appreciated, above using a system of beeps and flashes like other less user-friendly devices of this type. The shape/design of the speaker seems to help give a fuller sound from all angles, with no noticeable drop in sound quality regardless of the position of the speaker. Battery Life was also great, with what felt to me to be a fairly quick charge for a speaker that can go days with fairly heavy usage. Standby battery power retention is also great, as I meant to take this on vacation but forgot it for a week, and returned to find it was still sitting at a full 100% charge after leaving it for a week. Portability is also great, especially with the handy carrying cord attached to it, and it is sized in a way that fits nicely within a book bag or travel case too. The reason for the one-star deduction is regarding sound control, as Treble control is limited. There are no preset EQs or specific Bass boost function on this model, and unlike other Sony speakers I've used in the past, a virtual EQ from an app or computer is not as responsive here. Default sound is balanced enough to please the average music listener, and there's enough Bass control for a Bass lover to be content, but don't expect to manually tune out the treble to enjoy the bass line. Those soaring vocals will be ever-present regardless of what EQ settings you are using, although at lower volume levels, the speaker's Bass production can be felt more powerfully than at higher volumes, where things can be a bit muddy with the vocals and Bass together (again, a bit unusual for a Sony product). At time of writing, I was not able to access my Sony Music app, so it is possible there could be some sort of Sony-specific sound controls to alter the EQ of the speaker, but even if this is the case, I'd have taken a star off for that being the only way to access special sound settings. This will please most users without needing any adjustments, especially if you really want to hear those vocals clearly and consistently, but if you are looking for something to keep a party thumping to the Bass with minimal vocals (or more evenly balanced vocals), you may want to look into one of Sony's other more powerful Bass producing devices. Again, not bad, but not necessarily able to give you that extra bump that some more Bass-heavy speakers from Sony and others can give you. A good mid-ranger for any music-lover's speaker collection, but not necessarily la-creme-de-la-creme for Bass lovers. Would recommend, but caution Bass aficionados, as there are many competitors (even within Sony's own line-up) that may meet Bass needs better in this class range.

Hi RedOmen, thank you for choosing and purchasing our product. We appreciate your detailed review of our SRSXE200. Here's what you can do with “Sony | Music Center”, please check this link:

      https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xe200/v1/en/contents/TP1000669365.html?search=music

The XE200 has a Line-Shape Diffuser that will help your music reach further, even to the side of the speaker. Plus, with a portable size and handy carry strap, you can take it anywhere you go with ease. Unlike a conventional speaker, with most of the energy focused from the center of the cone, our unique Line-Shape Diffuser refocuses the sound through a narrow aperture. The increase in sound pressure energy spreads the audio equally in each direction both further and wider out from the speaker. Instead of the traditional circular design, our unique diaphragm shape increases sound pressure for booming bass and distinctive, high-quality audio. With an IP67 rating, your speaker is sealed against dust, so you can use it on any surface, whether you decide to take it to the beach, the park or the garden. With extensive shock testing you can rest assure that this speaker will withstand inevitable drops, bumps and scrapes that come with everyday use. Thank you for choosing SONY. ~Earl Sony_US

Bought without looking at reviews because of Sonys reputation, they’ve always done right by me especially audio products. This was a huge disappointment. Not loud at all, even compared to the wonder boom which is half the size. It has less bass than the wonder boom. Even at a $30 discount, it wasn’t worth it.

Hi SoeeUnoo, We're sorry to hear about the sound quality issue with this XE200 X-Series Portable Wireless Speaker. We apologize for the inconvenience. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction. When the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only. When the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor (commercially available) or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port. When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.

If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
      Turn off the speaker.
      Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.
If you are unable to resolve your concern, please follow the troubleshooting steps from this link to isolate the issue:
