Battery from manufacturer drain really fast

Why 3 stars because first I thought the battery life from the manufacturer should be almost full but unfortunately not because after the geek squad installed it less than a week the battery already out and other than that I thought this camera only need one battery but the reality tells different because there is another slot for another battery and ring doesn't provide it we have to buy that extra battery.

Hi there, I'd be happy to offer some clarification on your Spotlight Cam Pro. We always recommend fully charging the battery before installation for our battery powered devices. This is because the battery level out of the box may vary, so it is best to charge it up prior to installation. Additionally, only one battery is necessary for the Camera to operate. A second battery can be added if you want, which is why there are two battery slots. If you have any other questions about your Spotlight Cam Pro, see answers from other neighbors on the Ring Community https://community.ring.com/. Best, Ashley from Ring. Ring

I’m a really big fan of the ring doorbell pro. The only not so good part is somehow someway within the last couple months, the quality of sound has gone down by a whole bunch. I hear way too much ambient noise across all ring devices. I don’t know if this is something that has to do with prankster’s messing with me and ruin rings, good reputation through their unruly, trespassing, lawbreaking, criminals. If not, then Ring has utterly failed me and providing me dependable sound along with sensitive motion detection. I keep missing lots of motion, including times when I walk out of the house. I don’t see me leave the house, but I see me coming back. I never get to see the mailman drop the mail off. I have the camera set to more sensitive setting as well. Get it together, Ring!

      Hi Pandabear2hug.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro to record clear and concise videos so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure that your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

We are happy to share some tips with you to help you troubleshoot why your Ring device may be experiencing some issue with the sound. Poor wifi can often cause Ring device issues, including capturing audio. We recommend following these steps in the Ring app: Tap the top menu (☰), then Devices. Choose your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Tap "Device Health." Under the "Network" section, you'll see your device's "Signal Strength." If your "Signal Strength" (RSSI) is amber or red, your Ring device likely has a poor connection to your location's wifi. Try moving your wifi router closer to your Ring device. Open "Live View" in the Ring app and see if your Ring device's microphone is enabled. Open the Ring app. Tap the top menu (☰), then "Devices." Choose your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Tap the "Live View" button. Check to make sure the microphone icon is enabled. You can also press the green phone icon. If you have a Ring Home subscription, you can view the recording to see what the audio sounds like.

Also, it sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to person detection. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts," please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap "Motion Settings."
      Tap "Smart Alerts."
      Tap "Enable Feature."
      Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."

Check your audio privacy settings You may have your audio settings turned off for privacy reasons. Open the Ring app. Tap the top menu (☰), then "Devices." Choose your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Tap the "Device Settings" tile. Tap "Privacy Settings." Make sure "Audio Streaming" and "Recording" is enabled. Reboot your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro by following these steps: Open the Ring app. Tap the top menu (☰), then "Devices." Choose your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Tap the "Device Settings" tile. Tap "Device Health." Scroll down and tap "Reboot This Device." Wait a few minutes for your device to reboot.

I think this will be great, but I have to return it. The battery wasn’t charged when we got it. That’s normal, but after charging the battery and then putting it in camera, it said low battery- so disabled. Took the battery out again. Used it for five days and the day before I had to leave on vacation, we had geek squad out to check our poor signal. He moved our extender ( which now works better) but , I again got a low battery, so disabled. Bad that all vacation I couldn’t see my driveway! Today I have to return it.

      Hi Lois.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here to provide you with some education to resolve the battery life issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro is an outdoor security camera that includes advanced video, audio, connectivity, and motion detection features. The product provides outdoor coverage for common blind spot areas in clear HDR.

There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal battery-life performance. The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more your battery is used. Using "Live View" can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner.

To prevent excessive activity, under "Motion Settings" for your device in the Ring app, you can:

Adjust your "Motion Sensitivity" slider to a lower sensitivity.
      Redraw your "Customizable Motion Zones."
Change "Motion Frequency" to regularly or periodically.
You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.

You can go to "Power Settings" in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.

To access "Power Settings," open the Ring app:

Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the dashboard.
      Tap "Devices."
Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check.
Tap "Power Settings" to check your "Battery Level" percentage and "Feature Power Usage."
Tap a feature to adjust "Snapshot Capture," "Motion Frequency," and "Video Recording Length.".

As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring cameras, may experience several issues including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality. Knowing at what temperature batteries will start to be impacted can help you take the necessary steps to keep your device working. When the temperature drops to:

36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently.
32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery.
-5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up.

When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.

We recommend using the Ring Solar Panel or the Ring Indoor/Outdoor Power Adapter to assist with extending the life of the battery in your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro, please reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

      Hi DavidC.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. not as good as I had hoped. The lag between night motion detection and focusing of the camera for better image is several seconds - I see the tail end of the motion unless they are very slow. And the image is not as sharp as I would like, especially at night when it is most important. This spotlight does not seem to carry more than just a dozen feet - but I am still trying to adjust and learn. The literature that came with the unit is terrible and the on-line help is not the best either. Customer Service seems to be in a far distant country.

      Hi None.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand how critical it is for your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro to activate on meaningful motion events so that you can keep an eye out for any activity around your property. The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here today to provide you with information to assist you in finding the best settings for your home’s environment.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the connectivity of your device during motion events. What you describe sounds like your device does not have a strong wifi connection, or your speeds are too slow at the mounting location. One of the most important measurements in your Ring security network is the strength of your wifi signal. Since every element of your system uses wifi to communicate with every other element of your system, it’s important to get as strong a signal as possible. You can run a connectivity test when you set up a new device to check the strength of your signal.

To check the strength of your wifi signal, do the following:

      Open your Ring app.
Tap on the three lines on the top left of the screen.
      Select Devices.
Tap on the Ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the Device Health tile.
On the Device Health screen, look at your signal strength under the Network section.

If your signal is poor or very poor, this can be caused by the distance between the router and your Ring device, the layout of your home, or interference caused by other devices (TV's, game systems, etc.) or materials in your home such as stucco, brick, metal, large mirrors, or glass doors.

Visit our support center for more information and tips on how to improve your wifi signal.

      Hi BillyFlorida.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand how important it is to have a good battery life for your Ring Spotlight Cam Plus. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro, is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We would love the opportunity to work with you to ensure your device is performing optimally for your home's environment.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the battery draining too quickly. The rechargeable battery used in the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner.

You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery. Follow these steps in the Ring app:

Tap menu (≡) on the top left of the Dashboard.
      Tap Devices
Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check
Tap Power Settings to check your Battery Level percentage and Feature Power Usage

Hi MichaelH. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro to function consistently and reliably, so you are alerted to any wanted or unwanted activity in or around your home. Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity around your home. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issues you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with the device in regards to connection and battery life. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance.

As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring Doorbells and Security Cameras may experience several issues including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality.

A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

If your networking equipment hasn’t been power cycled in a while, try unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Wireless networks utilize different channels for communication. In the United States, the 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1-11 and the 5 GHz band uses channels 36-165. In some cases, setting up your Ring device(s) can fail due to wireless interference or congestion.

      Hi grandmashell.

We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the video quality concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. Ring devices require high-speed internet to bring you crisp, clear video and audio. Poor network connectivity can affect the performance of your Ring device. We are happy to share some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and fix common video issues that you may experience with Ring doorbells and cameras.

Ring devices require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable.

Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI. Turn off your mobile device's cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device. Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap “Devices.” Select your device. Trigger an event on your Ring device. This could mean pressing the button on a doorbell or activating the motion sensors on a camera. Answer the event and examine the resulting video.

We have listed some possible outcomes from this test here:

      1. The footage is crisp and clear.

If your video appears good when next to the router, the issue may be caused by a disruption in between your router and your Ring device’s normal location. To fix this, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.

      2. The footage is heavily pixelated.

If you’re seeing heavy pixilation, even next to the router, this may be due to slow wifi speeds.

Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

If your networking equipment hasn’t been power-cycled in a while, try unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Wireless networks utilize different channels for communication. In the United States, the 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1-11 and the 5 GHz band uses channels 36-165. In some cases, setting up your Ring device(s) can fail due to wireless interference or congestion.

Here are a few of the top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your WiFi router.
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection.
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic).

To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
      Tap “Devices.”
Select the ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the “Device Health” tile.
Scroll to “Signal Strength” under the “Network” section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.
Move your wifi router off the floor.

Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere with or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose an elevated, central, open location for your wifi router.

Check your mobile device's signal. If your mobile device has one or two bars, this could be causing issues accessing your Ring device. For best results, make sure you're connected to wifi from wherever you are.

Most internet service providers range from 100–400 mbps (megabytes per second) for download speed and 10–100 mbps for uploading. If your wifi speed is falling below the ranges noted above, we recommend contacting your internet service provider.

      Hi Antoinette.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We are pleased to read that you are enjoying the benefits of having a Ring security device installed! We understand the importance of having clear video quality so that you can clearly see any visitors at your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are eager to provide you with a solution for the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like you are enjoying your device but that you have some concerns with the video quality. Poor video quality can be due to slow wifi speeds. We recommend following these steps to run a wifi speed test:

Turn off your mobile phone’s cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
      Tap Devices.
      Select your device.
      Tap Device Health.
Under Tools, tap Test Your Wifi.
Tap Start to run a test that will measure your upload and download speeds.
Both upload and download speeds should be at least 1 Mbps or greater, but 2 Mbps or above is ideal.
Check the numbers on your wifi speed test. If either your upload or download speed is below 1 Mbps, then you might consider replacing your router (especially if it's older than five years). Contact your internet service provider to learn more about getting newer equipment and faster speeds.

Visit our support center for more information.
