Those are two of the very best terms I can use to describe this film. I went to the theater to see this film, which was packed to the gills even during a matinee (shocking in a sort of town like mine unless a Marvel film is out). It certainly provoked a lot of reactions out of people. It’s •not• for the faint of heart. If you’re sensitive to violence, blood, open wounds or anything similar then this is not a movie for you. I remember sitting on the edge of my theater seat when the bear scene took place. Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor that was, once upon a time, trendy to hate. It might still be trendy to hate him, but who knows? In my opinion, he delivers a heartfelt performance in every movie he’s in and transforms himself into whomever he is portraying - whether that be a homeless, free spirited young man known as Jack Dawson on the grandest ship in the world for its time, a has-been (his character’s words, not mine) actor who pairs up with his stunt double in a friendship to take down some of Manson’s gang with a flame thrower, or everything in between. His portrayal of Hugh Glass is no exception. Leo is superb and makes me - and probably many others - think he truly is who he’s playing. In the case of this movie he is a broken man who survives the most treacherous of circumstances to exact revenge. The scenery is beautiful. The justice served is beautiful. The spiritual message tucked into this movie is beautiful. It’s not a movie I can put in once a month to wind down from my stresses, but on certain days this movie is exactly what I need. I highly recommend it. The 4K Blu-ray is crisp and makes the plentiful nature scenes pop!

Best directed movie I've ever seen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not only is the camera work superb but the filmmaker virtually takes you back to early American life in the West. The way the main character connects with his family and struggles through immense pain... I mean if a bearded millionaire who drives a Prius came near my cubs, I'd claw him nearly to death too. #oscarbuzzforthegrizzly

Masterful Film, Bad Care of Blu Ray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best movie of 2015 without a doubt, Inarritu knocks it out the park with DiCaprio in a Man v Nature movie of the millennium! My only gripe is that my Best Buy story when I placed it to pick up handled the casing so badly, the outer casing had wear and tear it was bad, but I didn't want to complain I needed this movie!

Graphic movie
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Leo earned every bit of his Oscar in this movie. While it's extremely graphic, it tells an amazing story!

Great Film
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In late 1823, Hugh Glass guides Captain Andrew Henry's trappers through unorganized territory. While he and his half-Pawnee son, Hawk, are hunting, the company's camp is attacked by an Arikara war party seeking to recover their Chief's abducted daughter, Powaqa. Many of the trappers are killed during the fight, while the rest escape onto a boat. Guided by Glass, the survivors travel on foot to Fort Kiowa, as he believes traveling downriver will make them vulnerable. After docking, the crew stashes the pelts near the shore. While scouting game, Glass is attacked by a grizzly bear and left near death. Trapper John Fitzgerald, fearful of another Arikara attack, argues that the group must mercy-kill Glass and keep moving. Henry agrees, but is unable to pull the trigger; instead, he offers money for someone to stay with Glass and bury him after his death. When the only volunteers are Hawk and the young Jim Bridger, Fitzgerald agrees to stay for money, to recoup his losses from the abandoned pelts. After the others leave, Fitzgerald attempts to smother Glass but is discovered by Hawk. Fitzgerald, concerned that Hawk's loud reaction to him attempting to kill Glass could alert the Arikara, stabs Hawk to death as Glass watches helplessly. The next morning, Fitzgerald convinces Bridger, who is unaware of Hawk's murder, that the Arikara are approaching and they must abandon Glass. Bridger protests at first, but ultimately follows Fitzgerald after the latter leaves Glass half-buried alive in a makeshift grave. After they depart, Fitzgerald admits he lied about the Arikara approaching. When Fitzgerald and Bridger later meet Henry at the fort, Fitzgerald tells him that Glass died and Hawk vanished. Bridger is complicit in the lie about Glass's death, even though he knew nothing of Hawk's.

Outstanding movie, great cinematography !
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an outstanding movie about perseverance, determination, and “getting justice.” A really “different” historical look at a different time. The cinematography was stunning on the Blu-ray, and noticeable sharper and more impactful still on the 4-K version. Not a “riotously colorful” movie- a lot of gray, muted scenes, but it sets a mood ! This movie is NOT for the squeamish- this movie will make virtually anyone “wince” a time or two. Best Buy offered a really red-hot deal on this and other 4-K discs. Streaming fans...say what you want- but for TRUE video AND sound aficionados, discs ARE the ultimate in quality. Streaming cannot match the solid, pristeen quality of 4-K discs. Discs will continue to be popular and preferred by those that truly want the best from their hard-earned quality equipment. Best Buy makes owning the best in discs and fine equipment in general easy and fun, with stores and on/line options, along with sale incentives, rewards for members, and always, great advice.

Stunning visuals on an Oled Tv
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4k UHD does this movie all the necessary justice. If you thought the bear fight scene looked good, you should check it out now. The scene with the horse off the cliff is another one you won't forget. 4k UHD is the only way to watch your favorite movies. This just made my 4k quantum dot oled look beyond spectacular.

Masterpiece
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Proof that the director has reached the level of master craftsman. This movie is two and half hours and is a true experience. You will leave exhausted. Don't go because you have a free Sunday afternoon. I saw this on the big screen and was speechless. I then waited ten months until I watched it again on my big screen tv. Also, don't pull out your big brain and try to figure it out. There's nothing to figure out. The message of the movie is stated within the first five minutes and, if you forget, is repeated in the last few seconds--- survive. The rest is spectacle and imagery. Suck up every minute of it. You will be hypnotized and then violently shaken out of your hypnosis every fifteen minutes or so. You will watch scenes that you know do not exist anymore but somehow you're watching it. FEEL do not THINK,or this movie will mean nothing to you.

Excellent Quality for an Excellent Movie
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Revenant is one of my favorite movies because it keeps you interested from the beginning to the end. It's shocking, stressful, interesting, and heart-pounding. I had this film in Blu-Ray already but I had to buy the 4K after I read this was one of the best looking 4K films. After buying the film and trying it, I completely agree. This film is easily up there with some of the 4Ks ive seen (Other amazing ones are Life of Pi and Spiderman Into the Spiderverse). This is a must-have for any film lover and a must-have for any 4K lover. If your're both, why don't you already have it?

Great movie!

Samsung superior products based on system approach
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Aside from superior quality of Samsung products they also operate as a system. My wife and I can mirror our Galaxy S9+ on our 3 Samsung TV's or even the Samsung 28 cu ft fridge LCD display, My wife can work in the kitchen and mirror the TV on the LCD display of the fridge. The fridge even has 3 cameras so we can assign expiration dates to each foot item and see the fridge contents from the grocery store over wifi and know if we need milk. In general Samsung products work together as a system and are superior to all other brands.

Beautiful cinema, brutal narrative
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my son, an Art major in college, for the camera work. He got the digital copy and I have the BluRay. Anyhow, a great story of bravery, betrayal, and revenge. If you like an old-school movie like Unforgiven or Heat, in which you get more character development on what makes a good bad guy or a bad good guy, you'll enjoy this one...where the good/bad roles are more straightforward. Yes, the bear attack scene is brutal, but so is the weather, the various human enemies, the landscape, the military oversight, etc. Life was HARD back then, right?

Great picture and sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never saw this at the movies but after being on several "must own in 4k" lists of YouTube reviewers, I had to have it. Also getting it for $10 on sale made it a no brainer. Wow, what an amazing visual masterpiece. The picture was razor sharp and the locations looked like you were there. The sound is in 7.1 DTS and the sound was amazing. I originally wanted only Atmos sound on all my 4k discs but there wouldn't much user for it in this film. Ther DTS was more than sufficient. Great film.
