It was entertaining, kinda slow though. Definitely need to watch with the subtitles on. Kinda hard to make out what they are saying. Great picture quality, and the story was creepy.

This movie got to me. Small cast, not much blood and gore (no spoilers here). It’s a study in what life might’ve been like for those who left England to be free to worship. VERY well researched.

My favorite horror movie. The natural lighting used made it feel more authentic. The use of authentic Puritan speech makes you feel like you're there. And most important. No unnecessary jump scares, it relies on a slow burn and horrifying atmosphere to achieve its scares.

Movie is on the sad side. It's sad the family was banished, sad that life back then was very hard , especially if you are going at it alone. How the family ended up was also sad as was the choice made by the older daughter at the end.
Movie is also interesting. I like that they used original language/tongue as much as possible and showed how hard life can be for a family. The ignorance of the times is also interesting also and plays a big role in the movie. Overall, worth seeing.

I had seen this film originally on Blu-ray and enjoyed it. That was several years ago. So, when there was a sale on the 4K UHD Blu-ray, I jumped at the chance to pick it up and re-watch it. While the 4K presentation is very good here, with great depth and plenty of detail in the picture, it does lack Dolby Atmos or a DTS-X immersive sound track. Still, the 5.1 does a decent job. If you are a fan of the film, it is worth checking out or owrning on 4K.

There are mixed reviews about this movie. I will say that those who don't like it likely don't have the patience and attention span to get immersed in this story. The dialog is old English and that gives it authenticity. Again, not for everyone and certainly not for those who are expecting Friday the 13th. If you know anything about the Salem witch trials, you will appreciate this movie.

Without spoiling too much, suffice to say that this beautiful film succeeds utterly in evoking the other-worldly existence of a family of deeply ignorant and superstitious settlers surviving in a forest wilderness half a world from home. They are not only alone, but banished from their community of religious zealots.
The anxiety and hopelessness of the protagonists is palpable as they struggle in a strange and hostile land with nothing to give meaning to their lives but simple survival and their brutish subjugation to the strictures of their fundamentalist religion. The spectre of starvation is like a predator stalking them from the cover of the lush forest understory, and the shadows among the trees are home to all manner of monsters born of their primal religious terror.
What if some of the monsters are real? Are they any scarier than your mother, father, brother, or sister?

Let’s get this over with... I’ve had a hard time understanding the dialogue on this since it’s old English and that’s how they spoke back then, so when you watch this, put the subtitles on otherwise you won’t know what’s going on.
The film is very very dark (story wise) and it tone of coarse. This became one of my favorite horror flicks of all time along with hereditary. No jumps cares at all just a plain ol story and good dialogue. If you’re coming here to see action and twisted stuff then look somewhere else.

I'm guessing you're in. You know you getting a moody, disturbing little indie horror flick designed to get under your skin. The transfer is rich you can see all the finer detail, which adds to the atmosphere.

I absolutely love this movie. It's very reminiscent of the story of the school classic the crucible, but it's a very suspenseful and exciting watch and a great movie with beautiful cinematography. A lot of people watched this and didn't like it leading to it have somewhat poor reviews stating that "it isn't scary and it isn't a good horror movie". The thing is though is that it isn't a horror movie. It's a period piece about witches. And in that genre it is fantastic

The Witch has a great atmosphere that leaves a sense of dread hanging over you throughout the movie. The UHD is a pretty significant upgrade from Blu Ray, especially the dark scenes

This movie is all psychological, you’re not going to see the “monster” but the tension that builds within the family is palpable as the minutes go on leading to an intense ending.

When a New England family is banished from their colony and must try to make it on their own, they are terrorized by a vengeful & mysterious witch.
The Witch is slow burn horror at its best.
Brimming with dread, frightening visuals, and highly disturbing moments, the film is held up even higher by excellent performances from the entire family. Very strong recommend to fans of old gothic horror that takes its time.

Interesting, and where disapprove of modern language idioms in period films, the dialogue was extremely hard to follow. That being said, it had a high creepy factor redemption

so i bought this when it came out and liked it and was impressed with the production value and cinematography. It didn't thrill me though so i keep the digital and sold my blu ray off, then a few weeks later i kept having it slip back into my thoughts and felt i should watch it again. after watching it on vudu, i realized that i needed to see it on blu ray for it to work as it is beautiful and only blu ray or 4K does it credit.

This movie isn't really for everyone. The product itself is great. This is a standard blu-ray release with an audio commentary and a few other special features. If you're wondering if you'd like the film, The Witch is an extreme slow burn horror movie about a 17th century family and outside influences. I definitely recommend it, but avoid it if you're used to more straightforward and easy to read situations.

If you are a fan of Hereditary or Midsommar brand of horror this movie is for you. Top notch folklore based horror. No over the top grotesque violence, just a brooding, unsettling atmosphere.
The 4k version looks fantastic. It's a lot easier to make out what's happening in the darker scenes and the muted color palette looks phenomenal with all the additional details provided by 4k.

The copy i bought must have been an early print since the stickers on the release were extra hard to come off and left residue that stained the 4k case.

This is a great movie. Some people were mad because it wasn't your typical horror genre film, but even still it has fantastic acting and great camera work. In 4k it looks just as good as ever, some scenes are still kind of dark and some of the dialogue can be hard to hear in some scenes but for the most part it's a really beautifully shot film. I recommend this whole heartedly.
