Customers are saying
Customers frequently mention the excellent force feedback and quality of the pedals. The price point is also frequently praised, with many considering it a great value, especially as an entry-level direct drive wheel. However, some users experienced challenges with the firmware update process and found the base to be large. The wheel's compatibility and customization options are generally well-received.

The Thrustmaster T598 VS Others... THIS!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Review is a bit long. I do highly, highly recommend the Thrustmaster T598. I just started the Sim journey. About 1½ months ago I got into Microsoft Flight Sim and went through 5 different setups. I then went through 3 different Sim Racing wheels. So, I originally bought the Logitech G923 and Shifter. I had it for 1 day. It rattled way too much and I didn't really like it. But it was a completely different experience coming from always playing with a XBOX Elite 2 controller on my computer. So I exchanged the G923 for the Thrustmaster T248. That was way better, and the pedals were fantastic. After 3 days with the T248 and doing some more research, I wanted something a bit better. I seen the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Wheel on sale for $500. I went to Best Buy and was going to exchange the T248 for the Turtle Beach. While looking for my receipt on my phone I seen the Thrustmaster T598. I went into Best Buy and asked to see the T598, as the Turtle Beach was on display to use. I went with the Thrustmaster T598 and it's been absolutely amazing. All together I only used the other 2 wheels for about 10 hours. I've been hooked on this T598. It's incredibly smooth, the feedback from the road, the shifting, the larger wheel and it's so quiet. So happy I went this route. Now I'm afraid I'm going to jump into this hobby a bit too much. I was only playing Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsports. I just bought Assetto Corsa, the Patreon, Content Manager & key. Only started on the career. I'm still figuring everything out on this amazing game. It's so much fun! Sorry for the long post.

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from a T300 GT Edition, this definitely a step up in levels. Responsive and very informative when hooked to your rig. (Never used the table top mounts) The pedals are nice and will definitely improve your lap times once broken in. I'm also able to hook up my TP3A pedals and TH8A shifter that I have from the T300 to the T598 wheel base. Its part of TMs ecosystem of wheels rims, pedals, bases, shifters. I've Make also play with baby on my ps4. Make sure to update wheel base firmware in order to get the best from the wheel. Lots of room for this thing to grow and soon Ill be getting a T818 and the TGT II as well. Im just a "trusty thrusty kind of guy!" And I like to collect cool stuff in the Mancave.

Almost returned it ...
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The wheel performs well and I do very much like it. For reference, I'm coming from a Thrustmaster TMX I've had for many years of which I had to repair myself do to the pedal spring failing. It has unquestionabily improved my racing as I'm able to detect & respond to oversteer much faster than before... Though I must say, I'm disappointed that the software suite still isn't fully functional yet. I mean it's already been about 4mo since its release - what's taking so long? I watched the youtube reviews before purchasing it and they all warned of the tall base... but to my surprise, that really wasn't much of an issue. However, I use the desk mount and the brace they give you angles the wheel even higher which definitely blocks the view to my monitor and it almost had me considering returning it. But on a whim, I decided before I do, I should try and see if I can make it work by creating my own mounting plate for it to angle it straight. At Home Depot, you can get free hardwood & laminate floor samples and they are of the perfect size. Just trace the holes over it with a sharpie and drill a few holes and grooves for the clamp it sink into. Counter sink the screw holes on the bottom so the head of the mounting screws don't dig into your desk and you're good. I used TV-mounting screws instead for a flatter & wider head to better distribute the force since countersinking involves thinning the brace a little. The screw size is a very common size, M8 - just make sure the length is deep enough to go deep into the base of the wheel without bottoming it out. It's actually not that hard to do at all really, an hour of work with a cheap harbor freight drill press. The verdict: IT'S SO MUCH BETTER!!! The custom made flat mount doesn't just resolve the monitor view blocking issue, it's also makes a world of difference in *comfort* which was unexpected - It's night and day, actually. Thrustmaster should absolutely be shipping with a flat mount option - I can't stress that enough. In fact, I insist everyone who's desk mounting this should try making their own flat mount! Side note, if you're worried that the torque from the FFB will break the homemade hardwood floor sample mount, it won't. It doesn't get close to even stressing it. My main game of choice is rally games so the wheel gets a pretty good work out (it base gets warm btw, but there's no torque loss even after hours of play). The metal mount that comes with it is over engineered for its strength, which is a good thing, if only there were options to change the angle of your wheel... My only other grievances is the pedals can lift up during panic braking (I have to weigh it down with a padded 10lb weight lifting plate), the desk-mount clamps stick down pretty low, a problem if you have thicc thighs, lol, and the ports on the back feel rather... fragile. That's concerning because if you're a desk-mount user, you'll obviously be taking it off and on again constantly and I just don't know how well the connections on the back will hold up. The USB-C port is already touchy and just flexing the cable left & right when hooked up to it will cause it to disconnect/reconnect in Windows. I fear it will likely become even more problematic a year or two from now just through regular use and may result in a warranty hassle down the line... of which I heard through accounts on forums, isn't the most pleasant experience. Overall, I do recommend it *but* not without a few caveats, as I mentioned above. In its current state, I would rate it 3 1/2 stars (a little above avg/satisfactory), but since Best Buy doesn't allow half stars, I'll be charitable to Thrustmaster and round up.

Fantastic Wheel for the Price
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic Sim Racing wheel for the money! A true upgrade over the T300. Feedback from the wheel is great. Great entry to a Direct Drive wheel system over some other brands, especially if you are already in the TM Ecosystem. Pairs well with Shifter, Handbrake and T-LCM Pedal Set

Worthy entry level DD wheelset
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.$500 for a DirectDrive Base, pedal set and wheel is definitely worth it if you are looking to get into simracing or upgrading from an entry or intermediate level belt driven setup. You can clearly see where Thrustmaster cut cost. Specifically in the wheel and the 2 pedal set this package comes with. I am already invested in the Thrustmaster ecosystem so that did not bother me as much as it might bother some who are looking for more than whats reasonably expected out of a setup at this price point. My T-LCM pedals, TSSH Handbrake and TH8A shifter paired to my Thrustmaster simhub all swapped right over to this new base from my TS-XW. The included wheel feels very much like a toy with how much plastic is used but it works great right out of the box. I was able to jump into GT7, EA WRC and DirtRally 2 with no issues. I did swap the included wheel out for their HyperCar Wheel and Evo32R wheel after a few races. Thrustmaster did mention an additional pedal will be offered for the 2 pedal setup in the near future as well as the base being sold separately. Just be sure your firmware is up to date and you are good to go!

ZERO Buyers Remorse - Upgraded from G29
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very pleased. Smooth, quick and has lots of power. Taller axial motor is noticeable if monitor/TV is too low, but manageable with some tweaks of your setup. The most noticeable thing coming from a Logitech G29 was there was no longer any dead spots of force feedback. If you have an older gear driven or belt driven force feedback wheel, you’ll probably know what I’m referring to. With direct drive, there is constant force always and immediately upon change of direction of wheel and ZERO dead spot. The two pedals seem to feel better than the ones that come with the g29, but there’s only gas and brake; no clutch included. I don’t use clutch, so that’s no issue right now. As far as the wheel itself, it does feel a little LESS nice than the G29. It’s kind of plastic-y feeling, but honestly that isn’t noticeable at all to me during actual driving. The paddles are WAY better than the G29. The “clunk” is pretty nice in comparison to the “click” of the switch on the G29. This is the best thing I’ve bought for this hobby so far. Since this is and AXIAL drive, there aren’t any “poles” to stop on like with regularly wound motors. This is supposed to result in very smooth feeling even at low speed. I haven’t used anything but my g29, but I can tell you that this thing is smooth all the time and it seems like you only feel what the game wants without the wheel inserting any of its own inputs.

Great Direct Drive Wheel & Pedal Set For PS4/5, PC
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Thrustmaster T598 is a great entry into direct drive wheelbase for PS4/PS5 @ only $500. There are not many options for DD wheelbases that are compatible with PS4/PS5 with those options starting around $700 and up. The T598 has a constant 5nM of force with the ability to go up to 10nM of force in certain situations. There are many available upgrades and add-ons that are compatible with the T598 including hand brakes, shifters as well as multiple different wheel styles. They included pedal set is actually very high quality, made mostly of metal and is adjustable both with location of gas and brake pedals as well as adjustable pedal faces. Thrustmaster has stated that they will be coming out with a third pedal clutch add-on along with the ability to upgrade the brake pedal to a load cell. You're able to adjust all settings for wheelbase and wheel on the wheelbase as well as using a program for the Thrustmaster ecosystem while on a PC. Not all adjustment settings are available at time of writing this review through the PC program but Thrustmaster has said that they would be available shortly but has not given any specific date or time. Overall the T598 is a great starter wheelbase for anyone wanting to get into sim racing with a direct drive system that is compatible with PS4/PS5 + PC.

Make sure the firmware is up to date
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Make sure your t598 has at least firmware 2.07 or it will not work with the PS5 properly. I love this wheel. But it did arrive with an old firmware version and was acting very badly. I don't have any windows machines in my house so I took this wheel to the Geek Squad and they updated my firmware for me. The wheel is quite smooth compared to the G23. I love the gear shift feedback option. I bought this wheel really just to play Gran Turismo in VR and it works great in that game. I also tested it out on WRC 2024 by EA. WRC Generations which is awesome. This is the wheel to get at this price point. Another cool thing about it is that it is part of an ecosystem of upgrades you can get and turn this into something even fancier. This wheel taught me about the value of left foot breaking. I recommend getting some sort of cockpit or stand to get the most out of this wheel.

Great value. Great for 1st cockpit setup.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did some thourough research on wheels as this would be my first but I wanted to get solid bang for my buck. Imagine there are 3 levels to wheels. (1 , gear based wheels, being the most toy like, and 3, Direct Drive wheels, being the most realistic). This particular wheel is like an entry class level 3. I attached it and its pedals to the Playseat Logitech cockpit. And I am very happy with my setup. It's just right for someone who isn't extremely hardcore and doesn't wanna break the bank, but still wants a very quality simulation cockpit setup. Just note. Because u are stepping into nerdville here with a serious wheel. It will require firmware updates which require you to hook it up to a PC. It's not the hardest process in the world if you are tech savvy. But may be challenging for those who aren't the best at installing software on a computer. Hence me not giving it a great ease of use. But once you're all setup the wheel feels great and is simple enough to use while actually playing.

BestBuy Shipped This in The Manufacturers Box?!?
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This wheel is currently not dialed in for GT7 which is odd considering this is a PS5/PC Wheel..FFB seems to be inconsistent at best depending on the title. For those who say "It's much better on PC". That's swell, but this is a PS5 wheel too. The software isn't finished and directs you to change settings on the base itself. The wheel adapter required to use any "legacy" wheels is janky at best. The Gear Jolt effect does not make up for the removal of the Transducer found on the T-GT/T-GT2. Seems like it could have used a few more months testing before market..but hey! Gotta get those Holiday sales! My last issue, as the title says (and this is in no way a fault of Thrustmaster) BestBuy used the manufacturers packaging as a shipping container! Just slapped the labels on it and everything. Firstly, this is just asking for porch pirates to steal the item...As they can see EXACTLY what it is. Secondly, as someone who takes extremely good care of their things and keeps the original packaging for transit or future sale...This is inexcusable and I will be returning it simply for that fact alone when I have time after the coming Holiday. I may consider a replacement if I can be guaranteed the manufacturers packaging will be placed in a shipping box like every other item on Earth. Imagine ordering a Macbook and BestBuy just slaps the shipping label on the Apple packaging..Mind blowing.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this wheel and pedals set. For $500 you get a direct drive wheel and pedals. After an initial update and adding in the reconmended settings per thrustmasters website, this thing slamsss. So much feedback. Initially i got the logitech G29 and after 1 day i knew it was not the move. For ps5 its either G29 for $300 or FanatecDD Pro for $700. Now with this T598 you have the perfect mid range price wheel and it is excellent.

No Complaints
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly best bang for buck direct drive wheel you can get which is also Playstation compatible! (rare) i’ve used this wheel for about 2 months now and I love it. It can run 30min-1 Hr+ races on ACC & GT7 as long as the force feedback isn’t at its max setting or it starts to get hot. As far as downsides go: the steering wheel itself is a bit cheap feeling but that can be upgraded, as well as no 3rd pedal for now, which Thrustmaster is planning to offer a Load Cell Brake pedal add on sometime this year. So 10/10 as for entry level direct drive wheels go. $500 well spent and am excited for the upgrades to come!

A Must Have Upgrade for the Serious Hobbyist Racer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR: Takes racing immersion to the next level. Offers precision and dynamics unobtainable with cogged or belt drive wheels. I’ve been a fan of racing games since day 1. Whether the game be Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, Forza, WRC, Dirt, Assetto Corsa, I’ve played them all and while some are better than others, they are all good in their own way. I got my first wheel when I picked up my PS3 back in the day. It was a lower-end model that was belt-driven and made entirely of plastic. While it was fine at the time, it never really made games that much better. There was just too much slop and lag to make it entertaining. There was nothing I could do or change to make the wheel feel like I was driving a real car around a track. Controls were crude with little discernible difference between a slight pedal push or small steering input than a full-on lock to lock turn. After using for it a while, I eventually went back to my controller and whether it was XBox, PlayStation, or the PC, it became my go-to interface. As disappointing as my experiences were, I never thought about having a wheel again. I’ve looked at direct drive wheels, but frankly their price is off-putting. Manufacturers must think people that buy direct drive wheels are only professional racers or wannabe pros, pricing their products accordingly. Putting them out of reach for most people wanting a decent wheel at an affordable price. The T598 is priced at the lower end of the range for direct drive wheels. Anyone that has looked, will see that a direct drive wheel can cost into the thousands of dollars. While those wheels may have a premium feel and premium electronics, the T598 strikes a great balance between affordability, precision, and features. PROS Thrustmaster gifted the T598 with its first axial direct drive motor. Differing from all the competitors’ wheels, the axial motor is unique and works flawlessly. Anyone who is using or has used a cogged or belt-driven wheel in the past should be immediately surprised at the T598. I know I was. Having the ability to use the T598 with a PS5 and a PC is great! It helps justify the purchase immensely. Switching between the PlayStation and the PC is simple. Plug in the USB-C cable to your PlayStation or PC and press the Mode button, toggling between PS Mode 1, PS Mode 2, and PC. The PlayStation makes hooking the T598 a no-brainer. More or less, plug and play. Connecting to the PC, is a bit different and more involved. Most Game Pass games don’t include native support, so you must individually map each button to the game. Not hard, just time consuming. While Horizon 4 and Horizon 5 didn’t recognize the T598, Forza Motorsport 7 recognized it as a Thrustmaster wheel and automatically mapped button defaults. While not perfect, it got it about 90% right and required minimal tweaking. As for Forza 4 and 5, I was able to select “Wheel” as the input device and manually map each input to a function on the T598. But everything had to be done manually. Unlike the PS5, I had to download the Thrustmaster app and drivers via the Microsoft Store. They were not installed automatically. Even though the games recognized the wheel, Windows did not automatically download and install drivers by default, like it usually does. The wheel is fully customizable using either a PS5 or PC. Making it easy to set it up to your liking. Though, I will say the PlayStation integration is easier and more intuitive, especially when Gran Turismo nearly got everything right immediately with almost no changes on my behalf. Slick! CONS The axial motor is limited to 5Nm of torque. While it does have an overshoot capacity of 100%, it is temporary and brief. Other direct drive models can reach 15Nm and greater, along with sporting a higher constant torque. Enhancing the realism even more. With that, 5Nm is no slouch and I feel it is a good compromise. Much more force and it would get tiring to drive for prolonged time, just like a race car does. With being an entirely new product in the market, full integration for the T598 is still lacking, especially in the PC world. The wheel works fine during most games, but there is still some tweaking needed from the game manufacturers to extract its full potential. As of now, there are some aspects in games that feel unnatural. Things like correcting oversteer or for a spin, just aren’t quite nailed down yet. Neither is the force feedback. While it works pretty good on the PC (much more natural on the PlayStation), there is still some tweaking needed. For example, when your car loses grip in a corner, it would normally transmit those harmonics into the wheel. PC’s games aren’t to that point yet. PC’s games as of now do not take full advantage of force feedback or the Thrustmaster’s high frequency harmonics. CONCLUSION I give Thrustmaster props for making a direct drive wheel affordable for the masses. Yes, it is ugly, and the motor housing and wheel are made of plastic, feeling cheap. But the paddles and pedals are metal and have a nicer, high-end feel to them. Thrustmaster has integrated the T598 fully into their ecosystem which makes it upgradeable. Users have the option of upgrading the T598 with a nicer wheel and according to the documentation, buyers will be able to add a clutch pedal in the future. The T598 is a winner in my book. It is reasonably priced, has a bunch of features, can be used on more than 1 platform, and is very precise. Anyone currently using a cogged or belt-drive wheel now will be surprised at just how much better their racing experience can be. Mashing buttons and pulling triggers is no way to truly experience a proper racing game. The T598 is THE FIRST product I’ve ever owned that has the precision and feedback necessary to correct my bad habits with a controller. No more ham-fisted button bashing and full-throttle to full-brake races. Honestly, the T598 has made me a better sim driver. I have a product that can replicate the feeling and performance of driving a real car. Something I’ve never had with lesser wheel and pedal combinations and certainly something I’ve never had with a controller. The direct drive technology feels leaps and bounds better than any other non direct drive product on the market, regardless of price. Inputs are much quicker. Feedback is much quicker. There is just too much slack in lesser models making them feel artificial. With a direct drive wheel, even small inputs are immediately recognized. I play more racing games than I do any other type of game. I am FAR from a pro driver but have always wanted the ability to make a game feel less like a game and more of a real-life sim. The Thrustmaster T598 finally allows me to experience this. Honestly, the T598 has changed racing games enough, that I even bought a sim rig to mount it on. Something I never would have done with my prior set-ups. Fans of racing games, the T598 should be on your must have list. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
