It is close to the comics, dark, and ultimately cancelled too soon. Moral of the series: it's never good to be spawn.

The series is reaally good, especially since it has all three seasons! The metal packaging is AWESOME!

I picked this up at my local Best Buy because the DVD boxart captured my eye. The beautiful obviously hand-drawn artwork was so captivating that it was all I needed to buy it. I had never heard of Spawn before this, but there is a reason for that. This show is based on a comic book series and aired 18 episodes between 1997 and 1999 before ultimately being canned by HBO. The series is slow-moving and confusing at times, also all the episodes are very hit and miss. Out of these 18 episodes, a handful are not worth the half-hour it takes to make their point. Others in the set are very much worth it. It being a cartoon turns a lot of viewers off as well. I bought this set a year ago and just now finished watching it. This is because you have to be in the right mood to really enjoy the series. It's for a select taste I suppose I am trying to say. These 18 episodes are not horrible, but they also are not for the faint of heart. I bought the last copy at the Best Buy in my area and learned later that the DVD set had been discontinued. If you are interested, you'll have to buy this online somehow.

Spawn brings a dark and gritty adaption of the famous Comic book by Spider-Man and Batman artist Todd McFarlane. After going MIA in the field, Al Simmons (Kieth David) awakens as Spawn. And finds his hopes continuing his life diwndling with the revelations of his wife marrying his best friend, learning that as Al he died five years ago by being burned alive, and learning he made deal Malebogia, one of the reigning devils. While mostly true to the comics in the first season, the final two seasons each get looser, with their own dark, disturbing and enjoyable interpreations of the comic. Spawn, just like its comic counterpart, pushes to the edge of TV entertainment and breaks several barriers thanks to HBO. And the steelbook case contains the little 'parchment' with Todd's signature on the front as he did with the comic book covers of the series. This is for fans of Spawn, anime/animation, and comics in general. This is not for people who can't stand a little depression, people who a true to the letter adaption, or children.

When I found this box set I couldn't believe it! I have been purchasing the episodes individually for $5.99 - $9.99. This is a messed up, but utterly beautiful work of art from the mind of Todd Mcfarlane! If you're into comic books or just awesome animated movies in general, this box is perfect for you!

This is the complete series of Spawn on a 4 disc collection. This series was originally shown on HBO, and for good reason. If you are looking for a nice show to watch, STAY FAR AWAY!! But if you are looking to watch Spawn as it was meant to be watched, then look no further.

I bought this thing for $40 not that long ago. Fifteen is a steal! It's funny that this is under family movies though cause it's most def not for the kiddies. Sure it's animated but hello!.....there are plenty of animated movies just for adults and this is one of them.
