Piece of junk. Part that magnetically attaches to unit broke during first use. Missing piece on green circuit board. Updating maps was no fun either. Best Buy return is 2 weeks, ridiculous. Can't upload phone pic here. Calling tomtom, told they only assist via email or chat. Chat not working. Now have $200 paperweight.

Can plan the route, but many functions don't work

Tried to like this navigator, but ended up returning. It works as a basic GPS navigator, but many functions beyond basic seem not to work properly. 1. Brought the navigator home and turned on. Before everything, it asked to create a profile which I did using the basic password with the intent to change it later. Connected to wifi, went through the ~40 min update. 2. Installed MyDrive software on my desktop and the phone app. Got familiar with the settings. Decided to change the password to a stronger one on tomtom.com. Tried to re-logon on all devices and all failed. Tried more times, no luck. Positively used the right password. Reset the GPS to factory settings, went through the updates again (the manual says all info will be stored in the web account and restored upon reset - did not happen). Went back to tomtom.com, the message said "too many logon attempts, account suspended". After about an hour went back and was able to logon to the web site. Tried to re-logon on devices, no luck again. Web account got suspended again. Furious. Next day all of a sudden was able to logon to all devices from the first try. Downloaded the 3D view for my area (~1 hr download). 3. On the road. Took TomTom to Sequoia NP (no cell phone reception in most areas and on backroads). The navigator voice was set to the one that calls the street names. I knew the way, so wasn't paying much attention to the GPS, but at some point noticed that it was all silent. At the next gas station changed the voice to the computer generate one. It started calling the directions, but not the street names or freeway exit names, just numbers. Like "in half a mile turn right". Next gas stop - played with voices, only the two computer generated ones seemed to work. 3D view did not work, also was enabled in the settings. On the way back again noticed that the GPS was silent. Went to the voice selection, selected the same computer-generated voice that was setup on the way in. Suddenly, it started working (no street names). Pairing with the phone app worked fine and the ability to chose between 3 suggested routes sounds neat. But on the way back from Sequoia I selected an alternative route (parallel to the original one, just for the sake of it) on the phone app and sent it to the GPS. It acknowledged receiving a new route, but nevertheless routed me on the original one. The quality of navigation was okay. The smart phone apps give much more heads up about the route, though, tomtom only wakes up shortly before the incoming turns and exits. I used to have an old Magellan RoadMate and I recall it was more chatty, too. The info band on the right hand side is great. Liked the magnetic mount. 3D view never worked. 4. At this point I was about 80% sure that I will return the tomtom, but decided to give it another chance. Came home, plugged it to my desktop, tried to update the voices, the app had a rolling circle for few minutes and then threw a message "our servers are busy, try later". Mind you, my internet connection worked just fine. I tried about 30 minutes later and got the same message. At this point, the 10% of doubt were gone. For the remaining 10%, next day on the way to work, I tired different voices and for all languages I know (4) only the computer generated voices worked. So, after work I went to BestBuy (conveniently I was 1 day from the return window closing) and got a full refund for this GPS. Will try Garmin next, maybe the bigger marketing budget is not the only reason why it has 100x more reviews and incomparably better good/bad reviews ratio...

    TomTom still better than Garmin

This is probably my 8th TomTom. I've had 1 Garmin I ran parallel and returned it. TomTom traffic is good. Very up-to-the minute with traffic updates. Map updates are VERY easy. Just bring it in the house, plus into a USB and start the update. No need to log into a computer. Negatives.. the voice control is AWFUL. I don't understand why. On past TomToms it was very good, but it just keeps getting worse. You can repeat an address 10 times and it still won't get it. And I speak clearly. Also the MyDrive App does not seem to be available on my iPhone. I still need to contact TomTom about this.

Tested but Garmin SmartDrive 65 and TomTom Go Supreme 6 and decided on the TT. The TT was not cluttered and simple to use and very accurate. Both units are a winner in my book and you can’t go wrong with either. But the TT’s performance was more superior in my humble opinion. Buyer beware TT’s customer service is basically non existence and would highly recommend the extended warranty from BB.

    Saved my trip to Scotland

Easy to update, and use. If I tried driving around Scotland by map with my wife I’m sure the trip would have been a lot less enjoyable. She could relax and enjoy the sights while I could drive knowing I would get to where I wanted to go. Worth every penny. A must have if driving in Europe! Got me out of the busy airport area and into the country with ease. Forget using a phone app that can be touch and go with connectivity on back roads in the country. Plus I didn’t burn my data up. I did connect to my phone one time when there was bad weather and snow to assist in alternate routes...worked well.

I've had the Go app on my phone for a few years, and I bought this so I don't have to use my phone all the time. After owning a Garmin for a year, I still go back to TomTom. It's far more accurate with traffic, road closures, and speed limits on just about any road that has one. Garmin seems to be hit or miss. I just had an initial issue where it loses communication with my phone, giving me zero traffic info, but that seems to be fixed now.

I am a lifetime Garmin user so getting this product did take some serious thought originally. I tied this one because my latest and second Garmin would still have worked fine but it did what the one before it did and what others say they do which was to shut down randomly because of whatever issue it has in the unit or the charger after a year or two use. After doing this twice I thought I would try something different. The Tom Tom took some getting used to because it doesn’t work the same way as the Garmin however once you understand how to operate it seems to work as well. There are still a couple of features that don’t work exactly how I would want them so the only reason for not getting a 5th star. Otherwise it is great.

Would not consider any other Tom Tom. I'm only updating my old one. last one I purchase was in 1994 for my business, it still works but dated. This new one, i'm sure will just as long. Its great, I take it everywhere even out of the country. Never only rely on your phone, it rings, get calls, text, etc. Tom Tom, just works

Only wish that the map would show the same way it does when it is directing you when you just have it on for maps. It goes to true north when not guiding you.

It works great! Although I am use to using a Garmin, but this TomTom was able to help me bypass some major roadways that are usually jammed up with heavy traffic, traffic delays and an abundance of dangerous big trucks. Considering my trip was around a 1,000 miles one way, this GPS took me through a lot of scenic back routes and I was able to continue to travel and not be stuck...nor lost.

Have had this for many years and used it both in the US and Europe. The only problem I have had is the USB cable getting caught by my desk drawer and bare metal showing. Some electrical tape fixed it.

I'm giving this TomTom GPS a failing review because of the abysmal quality of TomTom's customer support. I was unable to sign into my existing account, which I needed to do in order to activate certain features. Tried calling the toll-free number (ironically called no-stress help) provided on a card inside the box. After two rings, the call was dropped every time. Tried using the customer support chat function on the TomTom website. No luck there. Tried resetting my password by entering my email address. Was instructed a link had been sent. None ever showed up in my inbox (or spam folder). I tried this at least 15 times. Tried creating a new account with a different email address. Account creation failed. Back it goes. I've had TomToms for over ten years. Will shop for a Garmin. I am giving this GPS 1 star because it turned on when plugged in.

Just bought recently and have only used it once. After putting the address in, it took me right to my destination with no problems at all. My old one which was very old got to the point that it just was way out of date and failed me several times. I like the fact that I can now get free updates for the maps without having to connect to a computer since this unit has Wi-Fi and did updates quickly.

This version is a little clunky and while it seems to work well most of the time we have had it lock up twice. It also got lost once and we had to use our phone GPS to find our way for about 6 miles until it figured out where we were. We like having this option as well as a phone because sometimes we lose phone coverage. So works well as a map option in conjunction with a phone.
