Great strategy RPG that's held my attention

I'm about 20 hours into this game and feel ready to give my thoughts. First of all, I know people complain about how much dialogue there is when it starts. For the sake of plot, it's acceptable. Some of it may be prolonged simply because you go back to the worldmap between certain scenes when it really doesn't feel necessary. With that out of the way though, I think the plot is okay and the combat had some surprises. Going into the game, I set it on Hard because of my prior experience with Fire Emblem and FFTactics, but I underestimated the amount of differences this game could have with battle mechanics. There are definitely some fresh new things for me here, like assist attacks when you have allies on the opposite side of the enemy. Some bosses are incredibly tanky but can be cheesed, which is interesting and funny at the same time. I haven't tried the game on normal mode and don't intend on it because I'm having a blast. The voice acting feels very unnatural but it's not unbearable as, say, Star Ocean 2 on the PSP. Art visuals takes on the same style as octopath traveler, and I'm for it.

A really solid tactics RPG. The gameplay is fun and very addicting. However, there is tons of dialogue and if that isn't your thing, it may not be worth it. If you're a fan of tactical RPGs or are looking to get into the genre, this is a great option.

As an old Square fan, this game spoke to me immediately. Memories of playing Final Fantasy Tactics instantly came flooding back. It's a tactical, turn based JRPG with a wonderful HD-2D art style. It has an amazing orchestral soundtrack, endearing characters, and engaging storyline...so far. Im only a few hours in but I think it's all gonna amount to something really special.

Very fun! I think the story is pretty good so far, about 15 hours in. It is engaging and gives a lot of opportunity to delve into many elements of the story through interactions, notes, or lore bits. Gameplay is the best part in my opinion. It is very deep and rewarding.

A harken back to classics like Final Fantasy Tactics, this game does not disappoint. Triangle Strategy has a wonderful story, an amazingly beautiful HD2D stylized look, and a fantastic RPG battle system. If you are a fan of RPGs, this one is a great choice!

The graphics are excellent. It looks like some old RPG in 2D but it is well built and the story is very interesting so far. Once I started the game, I could not stop playing. It is one of the best game this year.

A very text heavy game that manages to remain gripping throughout. Great art style and graphics make this a top, tactical game for a mature audience but will fail to entertain a younger crowd.

Little Too Much Exposition, But a Great S-RPG

The combat is very good, but like reviews say, your enjoyment of this game will come out of whether or not you enjoy the story, because... there is a TON of exposition, especially initially. Probably too much so. But if you wade through all of that, and enjoy it, this is a great title.

The developers of Octopath are on a roll with these new retro jrpg games. If you are familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics (if not you should play it right now) then you’ll likely have high expectations for Triangle Strategy to replace that Final Fantasy Tactics size hole in your heart. There is a lot to like here but ultimately falls a little short in the quality of story and the amount of actual fighting that takes place between long bouts of dialog. The developers took the criticism they received from Octopath’s lack of story and dialed it to an 11 while placing the actual fighting on the back burner. The characters and music are all good and overall I’d say it’s worth your time if you are looking for a tactics based rpg with Japanese flair.

Amazing game with so much replayability. The story is better than almost anything I’ve experienced. There will be many times where you have to make gut wrenching choices. It’s worth it, I promise.

If you like sRPGs, you’ll like this. While we wait for news of a FFT remake this is a solid offering. Combat is fun and the characters each have their own quirks. Music is also great.

    Best Tactics RPG for Switch

The story is rather ‘stuffy’ up-front, but the characters and gameplay make up for it. It gets better after a few battles, which are challenging and fun. No jobs system like you’d see in FF Tactics, but you can upgrade characters through a weapon and ability tree. Multiple story routes and a New Game + feature make it worth a second playthrough. Disclaimer: Final Fantasy Tactics is my all-time favorite game… Tactics RPGs are not everyone’s cup of tea, but this would be a great introduction to the genre if you’re not familiar with the concept.

Good throwback to Final Fantasy Tactics, with multiple endings. There is a lot of dialogue and story pieces to get through before you really get to start playing. Glad I got it though.
