Verdict: When I received the Wonderboom 3, I was disappointed with the small size and I expected to also be disappointed with the sound. I was so wrong! This little speaker performs quite well for its size and price. This speaker actually hits all the right notes for us: small, powerful, rugged, and well-priced. Initial impressions. It is small. It looks rugged with the rubber ends, rubberized buttons, sealable charging port, and hard mesh. The giant “+” and “-” are a cool design touch. The small blue and gray lanyard looks good while also adding functionality for holding or for clipping the speaker to a bag. Setup. The setup is standard: turn-on the speaker, locate the speaker in your device’s Bluetooth settings, select the speaker, and it works! Sound. The sound is remarkably powerful for the size of the speaker. The mids and highs are quite good: clear and crip. The lows are ok; I would say sufficient for most types of music, and not sufficiently lacking to make an issue of it. At 50% volume, the speaker fills a small to medium room nicely. For a large room or outdoor, we use the speaker at 80% to 90%. Even at max volume, the sound was good. The sound emanates evenly from around the whole speaker (360-degree sound) so it does better when it is placed in the center of a room or a table. Buttons. There are three buttons on the top side of the speaker: one for Bluetooth connection (upper button), one to play/pause/skip (center button), and one to power on/off (lower button). On the bottom side of the speaker, there is one button to toggle on/off the “outdoor” mode. This mode boosts volume and clarity to better suit open outdoor spaces. However, the lack of base becomes more apparent with this mode… we did not like it, and don’t plan to use it. When this mode is on, the “outdoor” button will be lit up. Things I like: - Compact form factor but plenty of power - Rugged design so you can take it everywhere; the rubber and mesh protect the speaker while also looking good - IP67 rating! It can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes! It can also withstand falls, and… it floats!! - I couldn’t test this but it can be paired with another Wonderboom 3 to double the sound, or use as true stereo. We may actually pick up a second one of these to use them in tandem. This is really nice feature! - Long battery life (14 hours) and great range (130 feet) so you don’t have to keep your phone right next to it - The small lanyard adds functionality; the speaker can be clipped to a backpack for example Things I don’t like: - The buttons do not have any identifying function markers on them. While I know what each button does, family members and friends can’t tell what buttons to press to turn the speaker on, connect Bluetooth, or play/pause/skip. It would be better if the speaker permanently showed what was on the removable sticker (when the speaker came out of the box - see photos). - The charging connector is Micro-USB. The new standard for electronic devices is USB-C. I have only a few (older) devices with Micro-USB. It would be great if new devices finally adopted USB-C so that we could carry only one standard cable for all electronics. - For the next generation of Wonderboom speakers, I also recommend including a plug adapter and adding a smart speaker function. Overall, this is a really nice little speaker, with ample power and ruggedness, and at a fantastic price point. Despite the Micro-USB connector choice, this is the speaker we now pack on outings and vacations. I would rate this speaker a 4.5 (rounding up to 5 stars).

This is my third edition to our setup, which definitely helps from having to share. The sound output is great and indoors can definitely fill a room and outside by the pool is super convenient and no worries about it getting wet…it really does float! Only 2 Booms can be linked, but it is still a pretty cool feature. Battery life: I cannot comment on hitting 14 hours, I definitely don’t use it that long at one use, but I can definitely use it for hours at a time on different occasions and it lasts each time I need it too. After the third use is typically when I will charge. Charging time is quite slow, there is no fast charge capability, so give yourself at least 2 hours to reach top charge if you're planning on being out and using it extensively for the day. Also, the included charger cable is the best one to use. I’ve tried in the past using my included phone cable and the port cut out dimensions are pretty tight; the included cable fits, unfortunately it is a little short, so charger on a countertop with a close outlet. The cable does fit the cut-out perfectly, I don’t know if it offers any IP rating still, but considering how deep the charge port is, the design of the cable will definitely make it difficult for any dust or liquid to get to the charging port using the supplied cable. Charging Cable: UE is still using a Micro-USB port and not a USB-C. For me having multiple Boom’s, this is definitely helpful, but if you're just buying one, you’ll definitely need to keep that cable handy. I can easily recommend this speaker. Pairing with my Galaxy Note 20 was super easy and these speakers have always been super quick to connect. I can easily recommend this speaker. I docked 1 Star because by now, UE should have some sort of faster charging capability, but seeing as they are sticking with Micro-USB therein lies the charging limitations.

Bought this for my grandpa and even though he's not into tech, he loves it! Battery life is good for the size and sound is even better! My only gripe is that charges via micro-usb, the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars, but grandpa doesn't mind it.

This speaker is very good. Depending on the sound profile you prefer I'd dare say it's best in class. I'll start with the design. As with most Ultimate Ears products, the design is great. It's very well built, sturdy, and will have no problem standing up to accidental drops, water spills, or dust (as in you've got it on a work site and there's particulates in the air). The mesh that surrounds most of the exterior feels like the same tough material on the UE Roll 2 I've been carrying around for years. The rubberized surfaces not covered by the mesh feel durable and should not crack, abrade, or scuff easily. Also of note is that the carry/anchor loop on the upper back has some elasticity and has a rubberized center both of which should prevent it from wearing our or tearing due to tension over time or being clipped and unclipped (using a carabiner for instance) onto surfaces like fences. Power-wise the spec sheet says you'll get up to 14 hours on a charge. I've gotten as much as 10, but then I'm usually listening outside at between 65-75% volume. Most of these "up to XX hours" usually mean at about 50% volume the whole way through. So, solid battery life that'll get you through a work day or day trip for sure. Sound-wise this is an excellent speaker. I say this with 2 footnotes, however. It is excellent as compared to other speakers in its class and price point. It won't hang with bigger kids (think JBL Flip 6 or JBL Charge 5), but then those speakers cost $30 to $80 more and honestly don't sound much better. And I say this as a devout JBL Charge 4 user of several years. My other footnote is that preferred sound profile can vary significantly from person to person. I'm sure there will be many people out there who will think I'm nuts to say what I said regarding the aforementioned JBL speakers and say that the Wonderboom 3 sounds much better. Indeed if you like emphasis and crispness on the mids and highs and definitely acceptable but nothing extraordinary on the low end, then you will love this speaker. The low end is not bad by any means, but it didn't wow me either. I have some other miscellaneous on the sound as well. It gets VERY loud for a speaker of this size and form factor. Also, even with the volume maxed I was amazed with the minimal distortion. Also due to the form factor it sounds equally good from any position around it and can fill up a moderately sized room with sound without breaking a sweat. I didn't really like the way the outdoor mode changed the sound (definitely skews emphasis toward the mids/highs more) so I kept it off most of the time. As I mentioned earlier though, your preference may vary. Lastly I want to talk about one other interesting tidbit and the one thing I definitely don't like about this speaker. In looking through the documentation that came with it I came across instructions for disassembly and removal of the battery and it looks as though it could potentially be user replaceable if you wanted to. I'm not sure if the company would be willing to sell a new battery separately, but if so that only serves to extend it's overall life and make this speaker an ever greater deal. Sadly, it's 2022 and somehow the Wonderboom 3 still has a microusb charging port. WHY Ultimate Ears? WHY? Please please PLEASE use USB-C for the Wonderboom 4. We're tired of having to keep multiple types of charging cables on hand. All in all, I really like the Wonderboom 3 for everything it is and would honestly recommend it to anyone. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this one and it is truly a "go anywhere" type of speaker.

This little speaker has a lot of punch for something so tiny. Already being familiar with Ultimate Ears speakers that I have had for a few years I wasn’t surprised by how great the sound could be but I was still impressed by this one being much smaller than the 2 others I own. It has a lot of bass and the sound is nice and full without ever having the typical tin can sound the way that a lot of compact speakers experience when you try to may out the volume. This is perfect for an outdoor gathering although I would recommend not using the outdoor mode as it does noticeable sacrifice bass and overly emphasizes the highs. As is common with most portable speakers at this point this one is waterproof so you can feel confident using it poolside or at the beach. Battery life has been excellent for me so far so you can definitely take it on the go and not worry about needing to recharge. Speaking of charging…I know some will likely complain about its use of a micro usb charging port. I’m a bit indifferent but as things are trending towards usb-c it would have been nice if this followed suit so that people could get away from needing so many cables to charge different devices. Not a deal breaker for me but this very well may be a source of irritation for others. Overall, this is a quality speaker that I think can battle with many others in its size group…and in some cases win!

This speaker is a replacement for another that is the same size, but from a different brand. I will be a little tough on this because I have something to compare it to that I have been using for the last five years. Setup is straight forward without any issues. By now almost everyone has paired a blue tooth speaker before. I like how this speaker looks and it seems very durable. The large buttons are very good since the are so easy to see. The sound quality was very good, the bass was pretty strong but everything else still sounded clear, I was still able to hear the vocals without any problems. The sound quality is great for personal use, don't expect to throw a house party with this tiny speaker though. I will use this speaker mainly in the shower and since it is so light I will bring this on business trips with me so I can listen to some music in my hotel room. I see that this is water and dust proof and it meets the international ip67 standard, but I am still scared to try and make this thing float. The only con to this speaker is it has a micro usb for charging. I am in the process of transitioning to all USB-C devices, so this will make my transition a little bit longer.

The Wonderboom 3 is a minor refresh to the well-received Wonderboom 2 speaker. Don’t let the size fool you the UE Wonderboom 3 might be small, but the sound is not at all. I was surprised by how loud it sounded but not sounding tinny at all. A lot of small speakers in this category sacrifice bass in order to be able to boost up the mids and treble, so it sounds loud but flat. What helps the sound output, it’s the ability to reproduce some mid to upper bass. There is no low-end bass but that’s expected how small the speaker is. It’s a great-sounding speaker with some sharp clear vocals accompanied by some mid-upper bass. I’m impressed by the sound coming out of the Wonderboom 3, sounds great no matter where you standing from the speaker. For a small outdoor gathering, the sound output should be sufficient. Now there’s an outdoor button located at the bottom of the speaker that helps to boost overall volume, but at the expense of bass. It does a good job of increasing the sound output, but it ends up sounding completely flat. At max volume, you do get some distortion. The overall design hasn’t changed much over the years but it’s still a durable speaker that can survive some drops and spills. It has an IP67 rating so outdoor usage around water shouldn’t be a cause for concern. I’m a fan of the design but would like to see a minor refresh at least for the next version. As for battery life, my usage consisted of having the volume right around 60%-75%. I ended up with 8-10hrs of playback. The 14hrs can be achieved but by limiting volume to under 50%. Even at 8hrs, it’s still a solid battery life in my books. The bad stuff is there is no app support and for some unknown reason, I don’t get a battery reading on my iPhone as I do with other speakers. The worst offender has to be the micro USB charging port. Being a 3rd generation product, at this point USB C charging port is expected, along with some quick charge capabilities. UE for your next version I highly recommend including those 2 recommendations. If it wasn’t for the lack of USC C charging along with a quick charge feature the Wonderboom 3 could have easily been a 5 out of 5. Even with the small quirk I still highly recommend the Wonderboom 3 for those looking for a small portable speaker.

The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3 is a compact portable speaker with big sound and a small price tag. If you are someone who don't want to shell out more than 100$ but still need a powerful Bluetooth speaker with great sound, IP67 rating, long battery life and good bluetooth range then this speaker is for you. Packaging - The packaging was pretty simple with just the Speaker, Micro USB cable, User Guide and Instructions on functions of each button. Similarity between Wonderboom 2 and Wonderboom 3 1. Same price range of $99.99 2. Almost same sound. 3. Same Micro USB charging cable 4. Same IP67 rating which is Dust and Waterproof and even it floats on water. Differences between Wonderboom 2 and Wonderboom 3: Enhanced Bluetooth range - 31 feet more (131 feet instead of 100 feet) Longer Battery life - 1 hour extra battery life than Wonderboom 2 (14 instead of 13 hours) Sustainability - The speaker is made from 31% post consumer recycled materials/fabric. Charging - It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to charge the speaker completely from zero to full. Auto power off - After 15 min of inactivity Pros: 1. Great Sound - Its truly amazing sound that one can expect from speakers at this price point. The 360 degree speaker ensures that the sound is evenly distributed across the room. Plenty of punch makes it a great little party speaker. 2. Easy setup - It just took less than 5 seconds to connect from my Android phone. I almost did nothing. As soon as I pressed the Bluetooth button on the speaker i got the prompt on my Android phone and when I hit connect, the speaker was already connected. It was that simple. 3. IP67 rating - This speaker is both Waterproof and dustproof due to the IP67 rating and can be submerged under the water upto 1 meter for about 30 minutes. Also it floats. I haven't tried this both I am pretty sure this should work. This should be a great party or poolside speaker. 4. Battery life - This has a huge battery. The battery life got increased by 1 hour (from 13 hours on Wondeboom 2 to 14 hours on Wonderboom 3). I tested this by playing the sound for straight 14+ hours. With the sound set at around 30% the battery was good even for 15 to 16 hours. May be on full sound or even at 70% sound i think it will last for 14 hours as promised by Ultimate Ears. This is really a great feature as people can really not worry about charging their speaker while partying. 5. Bluetooth range - I haven't tested this but the bluetooth range has increased by 31 feet (from 100 to 131 feet) which is a big change considering the distance. This will be really helpful when partying outdoors really not worrying about the Bluetooth range and reducing the anxiety about losing the bluetooth range. 6. Outdoor mode - This mode boosts the bass to make the sound more impactful when you’re playing music outside. 7. Sound boost - Two Wonderboom speakers can be connected with each other to make the speaker more powerful and provide a sound boost and the setup is easy just by pressing and holding the multifunction button on top of the speaker we will be able to pair two speakers. If we press it again we will be able to switch between mono and stereo modes. Cons: 1. Micro USB - We are in 2022 where most of the gadgets have USB Type C connector but Ultimate Ears did not upgrade from Micro USB to Type C which many were anticipating. It is a big let down. Hope Ultimate Ears considers this and upgrades to Type C charging to stay in the race atleast with the next version of Wonderboom speakers. It takes about 2 hour and 30 minutes to charge the speaker from zero to full. If it was Type C, it would have been possible to charge the speaker in almost less than half the time. 2. Battery level indicator - Checking the battery by simultaneously pressing the volume buttons + and - is easy but the 3 different sounds for Full or Medium or Low battery sounds are confusing. At the first place I had to go to the Ultimate Ears website and found out that there are 3 different sounds for each battery level. Secondly I felt that the sounds for each level is not clearly distinguished. For Full battery we hear sound something like to-do-do-do (in fast tempo). For Medium battery we hear to-do and for the Low battery we hear to-do-do-do (in slow and fading tempo). This is sometimes confusing or atleast will take few weeks to understand and differentiate between each of these 3 sounds. It would have been better if Ultimate Ears had provided the visual indicator with three lights or something that is easy to identify the battery level. 3. No Smart phone app is available to control the volume or tracks or even to know the battery life. Especially in the fast changing world. But at this $100 price point we cannot expect too many things. But it would have been nice to have an app.

I previously owned the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 and for the last week I have been evaluating the UE-Wonderboom 3. Just like its predecessor it is a great wireless speaker. It gets surprisingly loud for its size, and with its round design the sound seems to travel in all directions. So, if you use it in a hotel, you might get some complaints. It is waterproof, just in case you leave it outside, Bluetooth pairs quickly and it maintained a solid stutter free connection every time I was using it. I would say my favorite feature is that the Bluetooth can maintain a solid signal at almost fifty feet and when using the outdoor mode, the sound travels equally as far. My only negative about this speaker is that it does not charge via USB-C. Which means I must keep a Micro USB cable available for charging. However, the only redeeming feature to the micro-USB cable was that it still charged the Wonderboom 3 in an acceptable period of time. Overall, this is a great wireless speaker and I do recommend it.

In a world where there are so many choices for products like Bluetooth Speakers, it’s a tough choice trying to find the one that will fit your situation. Let me see if I can help a little bit. Being a musician for several decades, I am by default, drawn to products that produce a “good sound.” By good sound, I mean clarity in all frequencies. My family currently owns and uses several different types of BT speakers, from several different manufacturers. Depending on what any one of us (or all of us) are doing at the time, plays a big factor in which speaker we choose. While a lot of them sound good, none that I have tried have the full 360 degree sound capability of the Wonderboom 3. I find that if you place the speaker centrally located in a room, or say the middle of the table when camping, everyone can enjoy the sound quality from any angle. If you place it up on a shelf by a wall, you are honestly missing out on what these speakers can do for you. While it still sounds good up on a shelf, I think it sounds WAY better when open on all sides. Back to the sound quality. Being that this is a relatively small form factor, I am very impressed and satisfied with the sound it can produce. Again, going back to placement being important. The speaker also comes with a little stretchy strap that you can use to hang it on a hook or something similar. I would like to have seen them supply some sort of clip, or even an S-Biner clip in the box for certain scenarios. Not too big of a deal though as I already have some that I can use. This is also rated as water and dust-proof, making it a great option to take with you on a boat. If it flies into the water it is supposed to even float! If you plan on doing this, I would definitely recommend getting it in a bright color if possible. Just in case. It is also rated as drop proof from up to five feet, but I don’t want to test that out on purpose. Great to know it is capable though! The battery life has been excellent for me. I can use it all day at work, or out wherever without fear of it running out of juice. I suppose if I had to gripe about anything, it would be the fact that some manufacturers are still using micro USB for their charging ports. Not sure why that is the case any more. USB-C guys, come on! All in all, I think this is a solid BT speaker and with the 3D stereo sound in a class all its own. A great buy and highly recommended!

Not much has changed with the 3rd Wonderboom release this year. Now some of that is good I guess you could say, but the one thing that is not good is this speaker charges with micro-USB. Hard to believe anything in 2022 is still using this outdated charging connection, but that's what we have with the Wonderboom 3. This speaker also lacks a 3.5mm jack, so no option to run this with a wired connection. Less is more? Not sure on that. The speaker itself has a lot of positives going for it. A very solid construction, with a mesh covered body. IP67 dust and water proof means no need to worry about it getting dirty or wet. It will even float if you drop it in water. Good option for the pool or lake. There are 2 EQ modes and the second one is enabled by the tree looking button on the bottom of the speaker. This "outdoor" mode will cut some of the bass and increase the treble, so you get a brighter and louder sound signature. Speaker has a good Bluetooth range, so moving away from the speaker for fairly long distances with your audio source isn't much of an issue. So overall, not a bad little speaker. There are two active drives firing in opposite directions and 2 passive radiators, also firing in opposite directions. This will give you more of the multi-directional sound output. I still had to ding this speaker 1 star due to the micro-USB charging port.

I had up until fairly recently an early example of a UE miniboom portable speaker, and that thing lasted for over a decade. So I have few concerns about the potential longevity of this product with that history in mind. These have come quite a long ways in that 10+ years, but surprisingly in a few ways not so much. First off what people generally buy these for: sound. It sounds pretty good, but is sorely lacking in bass compared to both its ancestor and other contemporaries I have tried. Other than the bass however it is nice and clean, no distortion problems and everything is very clear. It produces a lot for its size as well. As is practically obligatory for small bluetooth speakers these days, it can be paired with another like it for stereo sound although I have not tried that feature as I only have the one. Right out of the box it had a sticker on the top of it that indicated what the 3 buttons do but beyond my comprehension the device itself does not have any clear markings for what those buttons are. So if you don’t know already, good luck figuring it out which is frustrating. The top button is for Bluetooth, the middle one is play/pause, and the bottom one is power but again no way to know it from the device itself. As far as power goes it will last a good long time, I have yet to even charge it since I got it. And that’s another thing I find crazy, is that it charged with micro usb instead of usb-c. The decade old speaker used micro usb as well and here we are still going old school. So it sounds pretty good, but rocks an old charging solution and has no markings on the buttons. So I don’t know if I can say it’s the greatest but definitely not bad. Maybe wait for a sale on it.
