Customers admire the TRANSOM Window Fan for its quiet operation even at high speeds. They appreciate the touch control panel and remote control for convenient adjustments. The reversible exhaust function and sleek design are also well-received. While some customers wish for more airflow adjustment, overall, the fan meets their needs for both summer and winter.

The Vornado Transom Window Fan has been a fantastic addition to my home. This fan effectively cools down rooms quickly, making hot summer days much more bearable. The reversible exhaust function is a great feature, allowing for both intake and exhaust ventilation.
I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet this fan runs. Even on high speed, it doesn't create a disruptive noise level. This makes it ideal for bedrooms and living spaces where you want to maintain a peaceful environment.
The installation process was straightforward, and the included instructions were easy to follow. I was able to install it myself without any issues. The remote control is a lifesaver! It allows me to adjust fan speed and direction from anywhere in the room, without having to get up.
The sleek, white design of this fan blends seamlessly with most decor styles. It's not an eyesore like some other window fans.
I highly recommend the Vornado Transom Window Fan. It's a high-quality, effective cooling solution that's both powerful and quiet. The remote control adds a significant level of convenience, and the reversible exhaust function makes it incredibly versatile.

Cons:
1. When venting/exhausting, it does a horrible job. I know all about the cfm rate and how it measures to larger fans (the transom unit is 185 cfm while my large vornado is 585 cfm), it still should draw in some fresh air from an open window while everything else is buttoned up, except of course the other window with the transom fan in it. I made sure everything else was sealed up, I even put a towel at the bottom of my front door, before I tried the exhaust test. And we're only talking about an 850sqft building. The inability to exhaust seems to be as issue with other reviews.
2. Safety. There is no way of locking the unit in place, save for attaching your own brackets. Ne'er-do-wells would have difficulty pulling it out, but they could push the unit in, turn it, and pull it back out through the window, or worse yet squeeze through the opening. I accomplished the first feat, the second could be accomplished by someone smaller. It's the weirdest design. I can't explain it, but there's just a thick, foam strip across the bottom that sort of locks the unit into place. You might also be able to secure it by cutting sticks and wedging them into your upper window preventing even the slightest bit of room to wiggle the unit.
3. Those darn foam blocks. In lieu of using the accordion style sides, like so many window ACs, they give you these weird foam blocks to fill the gaps. The blocks were also formed a certain way which didn't match the gap my open window made. Maybe my window is atypical, which I doubt, but there was some serious gaps. And of course they don't compress all that well, either, so when I was trying to get the last one in, another would pop out. It was akin to a Three Stooges bit. I tried it for a few more minutes, then I just measured the openings to make my own blocks, cut them out insulation board, wrapped them in weather seal, and used those. That worked so much better and left zero gaps and light pinholes.
4. Again, it seems woefully underpowered as a whole. I wasn't expecting an industrial turbine, but I was expecting something more powerful than my range exhaust fan when set to exhaust.
5. The controls seem awkward and unintuitive. Plus, on the main unit, they're touch control, too, which is clunky as well. The remote seemingly only works when you are directly in front of it, and is equally as clunky to use. The remote also is powered by one of those button batteries, which I hate. Either make it rechargeable, or power it with AAA batteries.
6. There is no way to direct the incoming air. I knew there wasn't going into this venture, but after trying it out, I really wish there was something, like louvers or something.
Pros:
1. This is the biggie. This one almost negates all of the cons... When drawing air in from the outside, IT DOES AN AWESOME JOB!!! Can't stress this enough. It really sucks in the cool summer air. A huge difference. I did a test where I shut my bedroom door and let the transom unit cool the bedroom. The rest of my place I just had the windows open. When I went to bed there was a 10 degree difference between the thermostat and the thermometer in my room. I just wish I could have directed it towards my bed.
2. Low profile. Unlike other window fans, the unit only takes up a small amount of space, leaving your windows quite unobstructed.
3. It's quiet. Whenever a product is touted as quiet, I always roll my eyes, but this baby is quiet, even on high.
4. It's lightweight. Easy to move from one window to the next, should you feel the need and want to wrestle with those foam blocks.
Summary:
When it was all said and done, I am taking it back. I could live with all of the cons except one... the safety issue. If there were a way to lock it, my review would still be the same, but I'd be keeping the product.

I've been looking for a new window fan since my last one's motor burnt out. My top three requirements for a new fan were: 1) it's not a noisy fan, 2) it's able to reverse air flow in case i want to blow air outwards, and 3) have a remote for easy on/off.
Vornado's TRANSOM fan hits these three requirements! It's probably one of the quietest window fans i've ever seen/owned, reversing the airflow is simply hitting one button (while other fans require you to completely flip the unit), the remote is small but buttons are clearly marked and it's easy to use and responsive as well.
The fan also has a temperature sensor in case you're afraid of being too cold, it can have the fans stop automatically at your desired temperature.
There are 4 speed settings, and on high, it feels like it's moving a good amount of air.
My only gripe with this fan is that you can't adjust the direction of the airflow, the only option is straight. it would be nice if there were adjustable fins to direct air left and right.
The other thing is, when measuring your window width, make sure that you measure inside the frame as well, my window is just slightly too narrow on the inside of the window frame so i'm using the window spacers to support the unit a little towards the front. Still fits well enough that i will still keep it.
All in all, I think this fan is worth the premium price - you get what you pay for!

This window fan was a refreshing surprise of features and quality. It has several surprising features I haven’t seen on other window fans, my favorite is the feature is when you shut off the fan it closes the opening to the outside. Another great feature is you just push a button on the remote or the fan and can reverse the airflow. The lighted digital display on the fan disappears after your done making adjustments, as soon as you touch the remote or display it’s back on. This is definitely a purchase that I’m proud of, you definitely get what you pay for. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Quiet operation, moves air just fine. Due the nature it does not allow looking into the room though the fan (so drapes can be open and allow the air to blow directly in the room at night.) There is a touch control (in addition to the remote) which dims down to a single power on light. The side extension foam pieces are sort of cheezy but look ok (Im using vertical installation, and they are at the top of the window.) Perhaps there could be a better "lip" to hold behind the window, and its definately not secure (need a screen at least to prevent just pushing out the fan and gaining entry.) After power restoration, it does not come back on ... Purchased because other window fans dont seem to last very long before the bearings go out, and Im a new owner on this one but it is a different fan and hope it will last longer. Reminds me of a hotel/motel sort of fan ...

The Fan always rotates in one direction. It is a diverter that moves to change the air flow direction.
The fit system isn't that good though. Basically they are foam blocks you put in to fill the gap. If you live in a multi-story building and the blocks fall out of the window it becomes a pain to retrieve them.
The Remote is nice. The controls on the front i wish were buttons instead of the pseudo touch screen controls. It works by sensing light being blocked i believe.

i say little because it fits inside my window and also inside the screen. so literally all you have to do is use the incleded shims to fit it to your window opening and your done. the temp setting is nice as well. i ordered one for my small kitchen as you can reverse its flow with just the press of a button. i am ordering another today for my bed room. really nice little unit and moves a ton of air

This fan requires a bit over half of the vertical space my old window fan needs. Because everything is so compact (resembling a sideways tower fan) it's heavier than most other window units. Instead of an "accordion" style spacer the Vornado includes dense foam spacers (of various sizes) to fill in the gap between the windows sides and the fan.
It provides adequate air flow for a fan of its type/size. The touch sensitive buttons were easy to use and the inclusion of a remote control was nice.

Placed this fan in the bathroom to pull out humidity/steam and pull in some fresh air. It has been working great. Be sure to get some weather stripping as the included stuff will not cut it.
