    Big Bang for the Buck

WD discovery software will only back up to a WD device or cloud service. This is fine if you are just starting out with computers or you decide to buy a large number of WD drives for a project. Within reach, I have seven bus-powered 2.5” external drives, two AC powered 3.5” drives, one 3.5” 4-drive RAID 5 enclosure and a dual-bay 3.5” USB 3.1 drive dock with a stack of 3.5” bare drives. I have a number of other 2.5” bus-powered drives around the house. This is after cleaning house and tossing out old useless drives. ONE of these drives is a WD enclosure. I have no room in my backup toolbox for proprietary software that will only backup to a single brand drive/cloud. The drive is great. I love the size of this drive. All my bus-powered 2.5” drives, including the Passport, are 3” wide. The Passport is just a little shorter and thicker than my other 2.5” enclosures. Overall, looks and feels smaller. This is currently the largest capacity drive I have in this small bus-powered size. Big Bang for the Buck. I promptly reformatted the drive to HFS+, Mac OS Extended. My two windows 10 laptops are covered with several dedicated drives using Macrium Reflect software. I’m shuffling around several other computers/drives and really needed 4GB of pocketable HFS+ storage for Time Machine and SuperDuper. It would have been nice to have a little leatherette sleeve, or a rubber bumper/case included like ALL my other 2.5” enclosures. At first glance I thought there was no activity light on the enclosure, but it is visible when the drive is in use. Unless it is a klunker, a drive is a drive. It works great -until it doesn’t. I can’t speak for longevity of the hardware but I’m really happy with the look and feel of this drive. I skipped the WD Discovery software since it only works with this one drive I own.

    My Passport to Success(ful Backups)

I like the WD - My Passport drives a lot. I've used a lot of WD drives over the years and have had a lot of success with them. This current crop is especially useful since they are so easy to use so small, light, and portable. I use them as my main Time Machine backup disks on various machines, and, in fact, just purchased another one today, since I filled up the previous one.

I purchased a similar silver hard drive for my wife and after seeing how affordable it was, I couldn't help but to get one for myself. Would you believe that neither one of us has used our hard drive yet? I have mine in safe keeping until that perfect moment. My wife and I are on the computer very frequently and just haven't set aside a few moments to enjoy our new hard drives. I really appreciate the value that I received for both hard drives. I compared a few hard drives on Best Buy's website to ensure that we got the best quality at a decent price. Data security was an important factor and both hard drives had password protection and data encryption. Combining those aspects with a great price and I was very satisfied with the outcome. I like that Best Buy has various options for different products that I look for from time to time. This was definitely another great shopping experience and the curbside pickup was awesome. As I mentioned in my review about my wife's hard drive, I wasn't expecting the hard drive to be so small. Despite this, it is a great convenience as you don't have to worry cause it uses very minimal space. We have transitioned from those days when bulky items used to clutter our desks or wherever you work on your computer.

I use these to back up my photo/video that I take daily as a real estate/architectural photographer/videographer. Every day I dump the folder for each job into a catch folder with the date. Then I transfer that folder to these hard drives to keep my archive organized and computer hard drive free. They are small and reliable, and now I have all my photos and videos from my job archived and easily accessible and contained in a relatively small space. They are great and an important part of my work flow. The affordable price is important as I go through a lot of them.

My daughter had a last-minute emergency where she needed more disk space, and this was the perfect fit. The solid state drive allows for faster data retrieval, and the physical size is perfect for both use and travel. The price was perfect for the size as well.

Recently I retired some 9 year old drives that I've been using for backups. Replaced them with two of these and they've been running great. I've got SSD's that I use for "work data", these spinners are more than enough for backups and the price was right. I paid more than double for 4TB when I purchased the drives these replaced. These are small/portable and I chose these for several reasons, past good experience with similar devices and WD overall, but also my old drives were AC powered, switching to the Passport series saves me two outlets on my UPS (it was getting cluttered!).

I've had one of these for a number of years, and I just bought another to dedicate to storing tutorials and pictures. The device does some with a disc for installing software, but that isn't necessary to use the drive and load tons of data for safe keeping. The price is good, and My Passport seems to work a little more reliably than any other storage system I've had in the past. Add to that its compact size and its really hard to beat. I'm not sure that there is a better option for home use.

I lost all my documents and pictures when I could no longer charge my old laptop. I kept taking it for granted and putting it off, but never backed them up to an external device. Now that I’ve replaced my old laptop, I wanted to ensure I had a vault for my pictures and documents. I was able to recover some pictures from Facebook, texts, and emails, but I had to spend a lot of time searching through ones I wanted to keep. This product gives me more than enough space, is compact, and easy to use.

After reading other reviews, I chose this to replace my older (and much larger) WD 3TB drive that seemed to be lagging. This drive was easy to set up and partition into 3TB backup/1TB storage. So far it’s performing extremely well.

The WD-My Passport 4TB External Drive was purchased to hold mostly my pictures and documents that were clogging up my desk computer. It works as expected and at a good price point. I like that it had color choices, because I like to color code things! It is just the right size: compact, but not so small that it would get lost easily. Best Buy is easy to order from and shipping is fast.

Very small considering the storage size. I like this external as it does not need to be connected to Power separately, just a USB and you are set. High capacity, small size for a good price.
