Now this is a definitive edition of a video game. This game had originally released two console cycles ago on the Nintendo Wii. It was a underrated game that most people were unaware about until it became a cult classic which brought it Mass attention. Due to that attention, the price of the game ended up skyrocketing and allowing further sequels and side games to the series. Xenoblade is now considered to be a must-have game for whatever system it releases on. This definitive edition of the original game which released on a Nintendo Wii is what a definitive edition of a game should be. There are so many quality of life improvements and visual improvements to this game, I found myself enjoying it more now than the first time I played it. The world is absolutely huge. If you see it you can go to it, if it sparkles you can collect it, if it walks you can fight it and if it talks there is more likely a possibility that you will have a mission for you to complete. There is so much stuff for you to do in the game that you will easily put in over 100 hours. The combat system is rather unique and take some time getting used to however once you do you will begin to master the battle system and even change your controller layout to further enhance that experience. If you love RPGs you will love this game!

I never played the original Wii version, but I did experience the NN3DS port (never finished, because Nintendo ninja dropped the announcement trailer for this)...and the Definitive Edition is everything I could've hoped for, and more! The biggest and most obvious improvement is the character models. Gone are the days of them looking like they're stroking out, and instead we have crisp, clear visuals and improved/cleaned up mouth and hand movements. Another improvement is the UI. It's so much cleaner and easier to use! And the addition of the blue icon when your character is positioned in a "sweet spot" for an Art to deal maximum damage is a most welcome improvement. The QoL changes Monolith Soft made for this shows how much love and attention to detail they poured into it. I have yet to dive into the Future Connected content, so I can't comment on that yet...but given that they added two new Nopon companions and I absolutely love the furry little guys tells me I'm going to seriously enjoy playing the epilogue. I'm currently playing the game on my Switch Lite, and I think it looks and plays beautifully. But I get that not everyone will feel the same. Either way, if you're into JRPGs, MMORPGS or even if you've already experienced this game, I'd absolutely recommend picking up this version!

Excellent update to a classic game. The game is exactly the same with updated graphics and a couple of extra game mechanics. I very much enjoy the new expert mode that allows me to limit my levels to whatever I want. Definitely makes it more productive for level grinding in earlier parts of the game. The original game was absolutely beautiful from beginning to end. Such a rich story with very engaging gameplay. Anyone who had played prior Xeno games would expect nothing less though. The difference is that this one was given the love and attention it deserved. It never felt like corners were cut to get to the finished product. I think Monolithsoft found a great partner in Nintendo that they didn't really have with Namco or Square. The fact that they could even remaster this game is clear indicator of that. The facelift is beautiful. I would only play the original on emulator so that I could truly appreciate the world. Even with higher resolutions, this version blows the old one away. It's just so freaking pretty. You feel immersed by the world as you explore every nook and cranny of the map. Questing is so much easier too. I actually find myself taking on side quests due to the ease of completing them now. Rather than running aimlessly through the maps, you actually have leader dots on the map that help you complete fetch quests in record time. I didn't even bother with them on the Wii version. Anyway, I highly recommend this game to old Xeno fans and newcomers alike. If you enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2, there is no way you will be disappointed in its predecessor.

I would give the game a 4 for its good storytelling and worldbuilding, but I have already played this game and experiencing it twice is not as appealing. The extra story which turned out to be the method of making an unfinished area in development of the original, turns out to just be like a bad fanfiction, in my opinion. I enjoyed this remake for being able to replay this game on a console in HD, personally not a big fan towards the more anime styled change in models. It worked for the second game but not this one so much, in my opinion. The soundtrack was a mix of ups and downs as well, I prefer a majority of the original OST over this one. The combat of Xenoblade is fun but the exploration and sidequesting not so much, in my opinion. Walking around for hours grinding picking up dots and going through menus.

My Favorite Game of All Time

Xenoblade Chronicles might just be my favorite game of all time. I bought it for the Wii ten years ago just to support it, since it very nearly didn't receive a North American release. It turned out to the most epic and wildly imaginative game I had ever played. I also bought the 3DS version and now the Switch version, which makes this the only game of this size and scope that I have played through to completion three times. So on a level of pure gameplay, I can't recommend Xenoblade enough. As for this Special Edition, we get a really beautiful and comprehensive art book that is a lovely compliment to the one that came with the Special Edition of Xenoblade 2. The missed opportunity here is that a soundtrack CD was not also packed in, as it was in other regions. This game's music is amazingly beautiful and deserved a showcase in this edition of the game, for which much of the original Wii music was remastered or re-recorded. But I won't even dock a star from this review over that, since the game is such a work of genius that has finally gotten the HD makeover that its beautiful, epic world has always deserved. If you've never played Xenoblade before, then get yours hands on this masterpiece and enjoy!

Excellent game and this collection is worth it. If you are hooked into the gameplay, the story itself takes you 60 hours and if you are a completionist it would take you around 150+ hours. Music is one of the biggest plus on this game.

Story: 8/10 Characters: 8.5/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Level Design: 7.5/10 Music: 10/10 Graphics: 6/10 Difficulty level: Casual/Core Gamer Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is the definitive version of the game with all new assets but unless you have an external upscaler the game will looks blurry on most modern displays, cutscenes and models all look great though. Outside of the minor graphical problems the game is amazing. It plays like a solo mmo with its active combat system. I completed the main story of the game around 80hrs with some moderate questing and exploration. The collector’s work set a great buy but if you’re serious about Xenoblade you might want to pick up a pal collectors edition.

Best Buy promised that the game would be delivered on the release date when I preordered this a month ahead of time. It took about an additional week before the game was delivered with only last-minute updates from Best Buy that would be delayed by another day. One the day that it was supposed to arrive it said it was in a shipment facility 2 states away. The game itself is AMAZING, the updates from the original game and even the 3ds remakes make the UI flow so naturally. There is over 100 hours of content in this game. Both the story and the visuals are so well done in Xenoblade Chronicles. Just don't ever pre-order anything from Best Buy

I won't lie, this is my favorite RPG of all time. I am stoked it is getting a fresh audience. This Wii game, that barely was recognized when released for Wii at the end of the consoles life in 2012 in the west, is an underrated masterpiece of storytelling and world building. If you're looking for an engaging and fulfilling world to disappear into, this game is for you! The definitive version is stellar. The remixed music, enhanced visuals, and quality of life improvements make this the only version to get if you're only getting one. Who am I kidding though, I own all 3 versions of this game!

Xenoblade Chronicles is probably my favorite series out right now, and this is the best version of where it all started. Although my personal favorite was XC2, I still bought this set for the lovely artbook. Kinda wish it had the steelbook offered abroad though. Side note: the series can be played in any order, and I always recommend playing whichever game sticks out to you the most. They're very different from each other, but can still get you hooked in the other(s).

The engine change makes the game look and sound absolutely amazing. it leaves all the working things from the previous games (combat system is completely intact but the icons are sharper and menus are far easier to navigate) and adds so many quality of life improvements (Fashion armor, yay!) If you were a fan of either the Wii or DS version of the original, you'd so yourself a service to get this version. Now if they will just release X on the switch so we can have all three on one system!

The original Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite RPG of all time, so I had high expectations for this remaster. Luckily, the right creative decisions have been made 9 times out of 10 to bring this incredible game up to more modern standards. The biggest overhaul, the visuals, is very successful given the limited budget available to the dev team. Character and enemy models look expressive and detailed, and textures on the game's beautiful environments have been greatly improved. The game runs at a stable 30 fps now, and overall I'd say it looks very nearly as good as Xenoblade 2 on the Switch. Menus, load times, and management of inventory and quests are also much more convenient than they were in the Wii version. Font sizes are much bigger and more readable, especially for handheld mode. This is without question the definitive version of the game. My sole complaint is that the remastered music is a bit of a half-measure. Many of the original game's orchestral/rock songs were perfect already, and have been fiddled with in this remaster to include bad synthesizers and inferior new vocals. Luckily, the original soundtrack is still available and can be chosen from the menu at any time. The collector's edition, at least in North America, comes with a hardback, 250-page artbook. As video game artbooks go, this one is just okay. It features a one-page interview with the director, existing artwork from the original, and a small amount newly created for the remaster...but many pages are taken up with just in-game renders of the characters' many outfits. It's a nice touch but I'm not sure I'd spend the extra $20 if I had a do-over. I highly recommend this game to fans of JRPGs with long, detailed stories; fans of open-world exploration; and people who appreciate good music and voice acting.

I expected more from this rerelease. Xenoblade Chronicles DE still looks very much like a Wii game. The resolution is far too low for handheld to be playable. Docked is the only way to play but even that is only at 720p at 30 fps. For what is essentially a port of a Wii game, there's no reason this shouldn't have been 1080p @ 60 fps docked. Even so, this is the best way to experience this great Jrpg. The story starts off slow but eventually picks up and goes into some truly bizarre and interesting directions. The combat system is similar to what you'd find in an MMO. It's fun but can get repetitive. It's a shame you can't switch characters mid combat, as I think that would have gone a long way in mixing things up. Xenoblade is by no means perfect but it's one of the best Jrpgs on Switch and I recommend it to any fans of the genre.

With all of the Quality of Life changes, the new Battle UI, the new Quest Tracking System, the graphical overhaul, remastered music, and the new Epilogue story (Future Connected), this truly is the definitive way to play Xenoblade Chronicles. Excellent game and an excellent quality box set. Granted, they could have easily done more work to make this a true definitive edition as may textures weren't given any treatment from the original on Wii, and the resolution can drop pretty hard sometimes, but the game still looks, sounds, and plays great. The game is so good that the sometimes subpar graphics should be forgiven.
