- A: AnswerRefer to P86 of the manual and use the MOVIE/TV or MUSIC buttons on the remote at the bottom right to change the listening mode. See P100 for all the MUSIC Listening modes. if the source of the music is digital then the best mode would be AllCh Stereo.

Q: QuestionDoes this support 4k 120hz refresh rate?(1 answer)
A: AnswerYes it will, but you have to enable the HDMI enhanced mode first. This is done by holding down the first input selector button on the console then pressing the power button once. The indicator screen will come up and show HDMI mode: Normal > Enhanced. Once it is selected for enhanced all HDMI inputs are in this mode which allows the processing for 4K 60 hz and 120 Hz. Found this out the hard way trying to get my PS5 to work in 4K with this unit, now that it is setup works great.Answered by DorkKnight

- A: AnswerThe Onkyo 696 is THX Select Certified which will produce audio at reference levels in rooms approximately 2,000 cubic feet or 158 square feet. Although, your room is larger than that, reference level audio is extremely loud and most home theater users don't listen to their movies or music at anywhere close to reference level. In my opinion, the 696 will be more than capable for you. Unless you crank your movies to ungodly sound levels. With that said, if you buy from Best Buy, you can always return the receiver for something else, if you're not happy. But I think it'll do more than fine for you, especially considering the BP9080's have their own powered subwoofers.

- A: AnswerThere is an hdmi passthrough mode as a standby option setting that is for that purpose. The onkyo is off but the hdmi goes to the tv

- A: AnswerI haven't had to use their customer service. You are walked through the initial setup and if you use the included microphone it will configure the best settings for your room. Just follow the step by step instructions. There are plenty of sound modes and you can fine tune to get it to your liking. Due to major differences in room configurations you should attempt to tweak settings yourself or find someone that knows how to do that. A basement family room is going to be set differently than say, an upstairs living room with carpeting or hardwood floors, drywall or plaster. The type and brand of speakers will make a difference. The amount of furniture and other items in the room affect sound. Sound-waves bounce. It's something the Dolby Atmos system uses to fill the room with sound. Onkyo will suggest general speaker placement but can't recommend for your exact space. There isn't any manufacturer that can do that out of the box. The added microphone does help get you close. One thing I did before purchasing was to go to Onkyo's website and read the full manual to make sure it had what I needed. Also check several independent reviews.

- A: AnswerCenter speaker is the most important,. Get a center speaker bar. Put extra money in that. The other speakers for this system are wired. Get as good speakers as you can afford,. Buy them used. Use 14 good gage stranded wire. Wire where. one wire has a white line to identify it. I connect that to red terminal on all the speakers and outputs

- A: AnswerThe physical remote is IR and requires direct line of sight, but through the Onkyo control app you can control the receiver wirelessly using your phone.

Musicman
The Onkyo receiver was on sale with $100 off the price. Paired it with two new Sony speakers and the sound and ease of use are second to none. Love the setup program and the Bluetooth capability to stream music. Great buy and really good value.

Nice Upgrade
I upgraded from a similar, older Sony AV receiver. The sony now shows off in the Man Cave. I upgraded in order to get the WIFI, Bluetooth and all the other technology upgrades. I find the interface and remote much easier to use than other AV receivers I have had including the Sony. The sound is amazing with Polk Monitor 60's in the front, Polk T15's as surround, Polk T30 Center Channel and a Polk PSW10 Sub. This AV receiver and speaker setup, in my opinion is a no brainer. Right around $1000.00 for all.

Easy setup and the sound is fantastic
Using the setup procedure that comes out of the box I am very happy with this unit. I am already wired so this was as simple as removing my old Denon unit and wiring up the Onkyo. I had to make a couple changes no that I have 4k pass through. I no longer have to connect my Xbox One X directly to the TV. Just one HDMI cable to the television. I also purchased Klipsch Dolby Atmos speakers for my rear channel to take advantage of the added sound processing. Using the included microphone to setup the sound was incredibly simple and Onkyo uses a more thorough process than my old Denon. It also has a much clearer on screen menu. I'll starting playing and tweaking settings this weekend. Do the Firmware update as soon as it is available to get Chromecast working if you use Google Home. Voice activating the controls is awesome. I've tested several streaming services and hooked into my in home streaming server without any issues and the music sounds incredible. I have several FLAC files along with WMA and MP3 and all play perfectly. I highly recommend this unit.
