• A:Answer The GPSMAP 64st comes with a built-in worldwide basemap with shaded relief, and comes preloaded with TOPO U.S. 100K maps that includes coverage or the full United States (including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico). Although the worldwide basemap does include South America and Europe, it won't have nearly as much detail as the TOPO maps. Adding more maps is easy with our array of detailed topographic, marine and road maps. With 8 GB of onboard memory and microSD card slot, you can conveniently download TOPO 24K maps and hit the trail, plug in BlueChart g2 preloaded cards for a great day on the water or City Navigator NT map data for turn-by-turn routing on roads. • A:Answer Hello, It could be possible to charger the battery via solar panel. We haven't tested all solar panel but you would need to make sure you have Garmin NiMH Battery Pack(010-11874-00) installed in GPSMAP 64st. Q: QuestionWould I be able to use on an elk hunt in NM?

• A:Answer probably. I had mine out in the boondocks in Arizona, and it did pretty good once i got used to it. but it took me a while to learn how to use it, as the manual that comes with it is just about useless. Definitely need to spend some quality time with it before you go out. What tripped me up most were the "hidden" menus, where you had to be in a certain mode in order to find certain functions. (IE: to pull up current coordinates, you can't get to it except in map mode) Especially well hidden is the menu that lets you switch between GPS longitude and latitude versus GIS coordinates to locate something based on the decimal coordinates system used for a county survey plat. And the coordinate readout doesn't always change as you move around unless you refresh.

Q: QuestionI would like a gps for New Zealand. I was recommended this device but the user only uses it in the USA. I realize the detail is abundant here but is there detail for the country? Can you suggest a device that would be best for gps usage in New Zealand?

• A:Answer I've used it while on my boat. It does well to navigate through water and track your traveled course as well. Very awesome and convenient for keeping track of fishing and hunting spots as well.

• A:Answer While we recommend using your vehicle's speedometer and following roads signs, the GPSMAP 64 does include the following data fields for speed: Speed The current rate of travel. Speed - Maximum The highest speed reached since the last reset. Speed - Moving Avg. The average speed while moving since the last reset. Speed - Overall Avg. The average speed while moving and stopped since the last reset. Speed Limit The reported speed limit for the road. Not available in all maps and in all areas. Always rely on posted road signs for actual speed limits. • A:Answer Street maps for the Texas would be part of the City Navigator mapping series, which is available in both full North America or the Lower 49 States only. Currently, mapping for specific states or cities are all grouped into the aforementioned City Navigator maps. This mapping is compatible with the GPSMAP 64st, however an additional (blank) microSD card may be required to expand available memory. ^DK

• A:Answer it appears to have the whole USA. I am sitting in Arizona with mine. I zoomed out from my local area, and it went out to a US state map; then I zoomed in to Dallas and it went all the way to the small streets. this is the map that came with the device, I did not pay extra.

• A:Answer The GPSMAP 64ST does support TOPO 24K mapping (available as a separate purchase). The TOPO mapping does not include roads and buildings, however the Garmin City Navigator mapping series does. ^DK
