A:Answer You can set up a list of contacts to notify or to alert whenever certain events occur, for example, if a door/window sensor is activated because a door opens. As long as the door/window sensor is within RF range of the Smart Hub in the DVR, it will cause a NOTIFICATION (in Daytime mode) to be sent to everyone on the contact list whenever the door opens or closes. In NIght or Away mode, that notification turns into an ALERT that can go to the same or a different set of contacts. If you subscribe to the Swann Professional Monitoring Service, that alert will cause them to (1) call the phone number associated with the location to verify if the alert is genuine, and (2) dispatch the police if they get no response from any of the contact numbers or if the person contacted fails to provide the correct security code.
Again, NOTIFICATIONS just send messages to the contact email (or SMS if you use an email address for it), but ALERTS are more serious and can cause a police response.
The same logic applies to the Swann key fob (pressing the Panic button sends an ALERT).
Hope that helps.
