    Huge upgrade

I upgraded from an old Denon AVR1613 from 2012. While it still worked fine for a 5.1 system and Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS:NEO, I have been wanting a new Denon for a while now. Came across this Denon X2800H at a screaming deal for $729 (it dropped to $650 the next day and i caught it so was able to price match and get a credit to my account) and the very last one in stock anywhere within 100 miles of me. I kept clicking on buy now but i must have been fighting with someone over it cause it kept telling me it was no longer available. So i just kept trying for the next few min and just so happened to grab it and sure enough it was out of stock after that. Can't even find it on their best buy website at the time of this review. I also upgraded my center to the Definitive Technology CS9040 and my left and right to the DefTech BP9020 the same day after getting them for an awesome deal on fb marketplace. So I'm using those with 2 of Polk Audio Bookshelves from my previous system until i can find some deftech rears in good shape for a decent price. The receiver is great. I love it. I have it hooked to the eARC port of a 77" LG C2 OLED, with a 3rd gen Fire TV Cube and Series X hooked directly to the receiver testing out the inputs to see if i wanna leave it this way or hook to the TV. So far so good. To get 4k120 on receiver, only ports 4, 5 & 6 do it and you need to go into settings and switch the input to 8k enhanced. With the cubes audio set to Best Available, I couldn't ever access different sound modes on the receiver. I changed it to DD+ and now can select a bunch of different sound modes including DD+, Dolby Atmos/Dolby Surround, DTS Virtual and Neural, etc. Something to keep in mind if you have one. Looking forward to upgrading my rears and getting 2 more speakers for Atmos. Definitely recommend this receiver if you can find it at a good price.

I was having problems with my old receiver doing airplay and Bluetooth. It was a Yamaha. The new receiver sounds great even with a little difficulty with bass management. I have it all sorted out now. I had the geek squad do the installation and they were great. Lots of my blue rays sound much better. Apple Music runs great on this machine. Audyssey is very helpful for room correction. I wasn’t very satisfied with the bass so we had to make some adjustments. Other than that it’s a great product with plenty of features and power. I do recommend getting some sort of fan unit to keep it cool.

    My First Denon

After three Yamaha and two Onkyo AVRs over the last 20 years, I decided to buy my first Denon, the AVR-X2800H, in October of '24. And six months later I remain pleased with the purchase. Current setup is 5.1 with Klipsch R600F L/R in front; RP600C in the middle; R40M L/R surrounds; SPL-120 sub; but will expand soon to 7.1 with 2nd pair of R40M for rear surrounds. I will then switch from manual setup to Audyssey room correction. I am thinking that will make an audible improvement as the upstairs game room features four odd vaulting slopes to ceiling. As it is, the x2800 performs well for what I ask of 70% home theater/30% audio. Connection and setup to the first tv (optical audio) and my new LG C4 OLED (2.1 eArc HDMI) was quick although I needed to dig deep for the correct audio out setting on the LG. No CEC issues. Bluetooth works well and Apple Music (thru HEOS) streams CD quality audio flawlessly. There are a LOT of features I have not yet explored and some of those capabilities appear difficult to engage so I'm rating ease of use four stars. Otherwise, I'm very happy...

I am very happy with my purchase. I am not an audio wiz, but the guidance i recieved from the best buy pros helped me land on this equipment for my home theater setup. I use this device for bumping some music in my living room and enjoying movies on another level. I rented a house with cieling speakers, getting this device made it my listening experience in another level! The HEOS app workers great and plays my favorite tunes in stereo version, then switch back to surround sound for movies!

Purchased this to go with our new 4K TV and Panasonic DP-UB820-K 4K DVD. It works with the TV, DVD and Cable great but the Sony TV does like to dominate turning when the receiver turns on and off. This is our 3rd Denon receiver and it is simply great. Sound is perfect whether streaming or watching a 4K movie (where it really excels). Setup is easy and the full screen program the implemented makes it much easier to navigate through the menus. We are using this in Dolby Atmos with 5.1 + 2 Atmos set-tops in a medium sized family room off of the kitchen so some compromises in speaker placement was needed. The X2800H took on this task with excellent results. This is a great receiver, cost is reasonable and features will cover you for years to come.

Upgraded from S920W. Interface is a bit cleaner and support for 4k120 and VRR is amazing! It is a shame you don't get Audacity XT32, but $500 more for that didn't seem like a good value. Upgrading to the X3800 would have given me 2 additional channels, but Im not too upset about missing out on those. 5.1.2 fills my room very well.

Setup to get proper sound took a long time. I had my LG C1 working fine with a 4 year old Denon 2300 AVR that a moving company recently ruined. I have a 5.2 setup with all Klipsch RP speakers, and after a fair amount of effort this unit does produce quality sound. Out of the box, the settings that I had used with the 2300 previously did not work well with this 2800. Over the course of a few days, using primarily the web control function of the denon AVR app, I was able to finally dial-in excellent sound. However, an oddity was that I was using DTS Neural X as my primary processor with the 2300 and it sounds horrible on this new unit no matter what little tweaks I do. Dolby Surround has turned out to be the best sound processing option, but only after I adjusted and tweaked various levels, the EQ, and distances just-right before this new unit sounded good. All that aside, once I adjusted the settings, this unit really does sound good. The heos app has a basic interface if you have music downloaded on your own phone that you want to stream. You can make it happen, but it's not a seamless experience and it's not user friendly. Is it possible that moving up to a more expensive unit would resolve some of the neck-pain this unit forces upon you... maybe. However, at 50 years old, there are certain price points that I just will not accept and the next step up model price was a bridge too far. I would also offer a word of caution to pay attention to the BB return policy which is only 14 days. I thought it was 30 days, but you only get an extended return period if you pay for various Best buy membership types. Final comment, e-arc between my LG C1 and this unit would not work seamlessly. Sound was transferred, but the LG remote would not control volume up and down nor mute over HDMI. I finally erased the external device settings and switched to an optical cable and now I can control all these things through the LG magic remote. I cannot tell much difference in sound quality, so if you have a similar setup don't waste time with HDMI as the LG system recognizes 20 something denon receiver options, not by model but rather it says here's option one, here's option two, here's option three... I tried four or five configurations which without fail would not control the volume.

This was an upgrade for my Marantz SR7011. I was expecting some improvements, but WOW. The soiund is oustanding! My 7.1 surround system TOTALLY came to life. I used the included microphone for setup and there was absolulty nothing else to do. My system is Klipsch fronts and center, Definitive Audio surrounds and rears, and Marin Logan Grotto sub.

Sound, installation, HEOS, TV compatibility and power all 5 stars. I have found that streaming music to my receiver causes a few seconds of skipping every few minutes. This completely resolves if the TV is on. Spoke to Denon and BestBuy directly and initially returned the first unit I purchased and reinstalled another one, with the exact same problem.
