I replaced a Denon AVR-X4500h for this unit and love the addition of two extra channels. Now my system is 7.3.6 and sounds amazing.

I'm blown away by this Denon 6800. I bought it to replace my Yamaha rx 2070. I was very happy with the Yamaha but a couple of friends of mine are Denon fans. They have the 4400 and the 4700 so I knew the sound quality of Denon and I was impress how they sounded on their systems. We set it up and they did their tweaking and the sound quality was amazing. My speakers never sounded this good with the Yamaha. I have a 7 speaker GoldenEar system 2 original Triton 2s , 1 SuperSat 50 , and 4 SuperSat 3s. It sounds like a mini IMAX theater in here. If you're looking to upgrade your receiver I highly highly recommend the 6800. If you catch it on sale like I did don't hesitate.

    Promising but has some issues

I got the X6800H primarily to try Dirac. I upgraded from the X6500H but unfortunately I keep experiencing video dropouts, randomly. The device input doesn't seem to matter but once it goes out switching inputs doesn't help. I have to power cycle to get video back. This happens about once a day. There's also another issue with eARC through the LG G3 television. A couple places online are saying that the 800 series have issues with eARC and the LG G3 and possibly C3 televisions. They are using a new HDMI board and chip set. They removed QMS support and that was to help with black screens when devices are changing refresh rates. But they had issues getting it to work so removed support but the stuck blackouts happen when switching inputs, as they do with most HDMI AVRs like my old X6500H but with the X6800H it randomly will not come back until you power the AVR off and back on. The eARC it seems to also be new to the 800 series as folks with X4800H AVRs have been dealing with it for almost a year. Someone on AVS posted that Denon support finally says they know about it and may have a fix in a future firmware. All I know is, I'm not the only one, swapping cables don't help, and reconnecting the X6500H fixes both issues. My Denon support person has been giving me the runaround saying nothing can be the AVRs fault and then telling me to send it in for service and will not respond to requests about known issues. So you have no info on what Denon support has told others about the 800 series and eARC audio issues? I provided the information in my previous reply. Here is the full link to the information on EDID Issues and possible resolutions. https://support.denon.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14793 Kind regards,

I bought the 6800H, its super great. It has all the bells and whistles you will ever need. and it is future proof. Also it easy to set-up and you can add 4 subwoofers to you HT room. You can also add a power amp to the system which is so cool. The sound is amazing, running 9.2 speakers system and my wife loves it.

It's a great sounding receiver don't get me wrong. However, at $3500 I don't think it's worth the extra cost unless you are running similar set up to mine: 5.2.4 (Left, Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround Right, Dolby Front L, Dolby Front R, Dolby Surround Left, Dolby Surround Right, 2 Subwoofer) 4800 to me gets the job done unless need 2 extra amplified channels to bi-amp your front left and right speakers. If you are not bi-amping or need 140 watts the 4800 at 125 watts is just fine. I hope my review helps.

I have only had this for a month but so far so good. Great sound with a lot of features. Before buying this unit i owned the Denon x6700h. It was a great receiver as well however, my house experienced a power surge during a thunder storm and it fried my receiver so i had to purchase this unit which replace the 6700

I upgraded to this as my previous AV did not have any external outs for amps. Decision between Denon and Marantz came down to actual size of the unit. The 6800’s physical footprint is significantly smaller than all other Denon and Marantz with these specs. I didn’t want to change my brand new console center piece unless absolutely necessary so this fit perfectly. This new release unit has all the specs of the top of line model with tons of power. No issues with it whatsoever since initial setup approximately 2 months ago. It is loaded with latest updates and future proof, relatively no need for me to upgrade this for many years to come. Very satisfied with my purchase.

This is long but stay with me on this... Over two years ago I purchased the Denon AVR-X6700H. I had one with a S/N that was supposed to have the HDMI fix. For that period of time while I had it I struggled with daily/hourly HDMI dropouts on any input I was using. Seemed as if it was losing handshake. Denon support was no help and blamed it on anything other than the AVR itself (ie cables, the TV, the cable box, BR player, sun spots..whatever) . I had a spare Yamaha TSR-7850 and used the exact same setup and had no issues what-so-ever. I sold the 6700 and bought the AVR-X6800H because I read they had revamped the HDMI section and used the same circuit assy as used in their top tier unit (A1H). I figured now it would all be good. (if interested in the full details of all the changes on the AVR-X6800H, watch the first half of a posted You Tube video. Search for "Denon AVC-X6800H & Marantz CINEMA 30 Introduction") Well...long story short, I'm still getting random HDMI drops with the AVR-X6800H. Both sound and video go completely out for a second or two and then come back on. Sometimes I have to shut everything off and back on for it to reset. Its aggravating when watching any kind of video because you have to rewind (if you can, live TV I can't). My local GeekSquad Magnolia dude told me its a "well known" issue between Denon and Sony (I have an A9G) and that neither company will acknowledge or try to fix the issue. He told me to bypass the AVR-X6800H and have all my peripheral video equipment HDMI cables go straight to the TV and just use eARC back to the AVR for sound. Whats the point of spending this kind of money and and not be able to use the AVR as one should be able to. Not sure if Marantz has the same issue. Good luck if you by this unit.

There was a time when you had to go to separates to get this type of performance. Thankfully, I have it all in one box now thanks to the 6800h. The new interface is impressive, easy to follow too. Nothing appears to be missing, and there's a good path to improving performance even beyond this level with Dirac and adding power amps. Having a built-in streamer is super-convenient too. It would be nice if Denon had a wireless speaker option for the rears, but I don't think anyone does without going to those hokey off-brand wireless speaker packages sold online After running just the supplied Audyssey software for automatic set-up, the 6800h got my B&W speakers really bouncing - in a way my previous AVR wasn't doing. This is a really welcome improvement because I had no idea these speakers could sound this energetic. No problems with the HDMI feed - although I have a Sony TV, not an LG model. Looking at one of the reviews here, it seems LG TVs have an issue here because Panasonic makes the HDMI boards for the vast majority of AVR manufacturers (if not all now), and this board is up to date from a compatibility point of view. It's quite heavy, so bending your knees when lifting is wise. I love how far AVR technology has come in several years. This is a real step-up.
